Tienes el Poder de decir “No”

“Pero ustedes no están dominados por su naturaleza pecaminosa. Son controlados por el Espíritu si el Espíritu de Dios vive en ustedes”. Romanos 8:9 (NTV)

Hoy en día, algunas personas insisten en que deberíamos ceder ante cualquier deseo que se nos presente en nuestro camino. Esta es una mentalidad destructiva. Solo porque tienes el deseo de comerte todo un pastel de chocolate no significa que sea bueno para ti.

Romanos 8:9 dice, “Pero ustedes no están dominados por su naturaleza pecaminosa. Son controlados por el Espíritu si el Espíritu de Dios vive en ustedes” (NTV).

Antes de que te convirtieras en un creyente, solo tenías fuerzas de voluntad para luchar contra las tentaciones. Pero nunca era suficiente. Eras impotente frente a las grandes tentaciones que tenías.

Como creyente, ahora tienes el Espíritu Santo – y una nueva capacidad para decir “no”. Aún tienes los mismos deseos, impulsos y pasiones que tenías antes de que tuvieras una relación con Jesús, pero ahora el poder de Dios vive dentro de ti. Ahora puedes decir “no”.

Gálatas 5:16 dice, “Por eso les digo: dejen que el Espíritu Santo los guíe en la vida. Entonces no se dejarán llevar por los impulsos de la naturaleza pecaminosa”.

La Biblia no dice que no tendrás deseos pecaminosos después de que te conviertas en cristiano, pero dice que el Espíritu Santo te ayudará a elegir no satisfacer esos deseos.

Si alguna vez has escuchado decir, ¡Soy cristiano, pero no puedo detenerme a mí mismo!” están mintiendo. Simplemente, nunca llaman al poder del Espíritu Santo en el momento de la tentación.

Tienes el poder para decir “no”. Úsalo.

Let Go of Your Self-defeating Lies

“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.”

1 John 1:8 (NIV)

We lie to ourselves all the time: “I haven’t gained any weight.” “I’m not hurting anyone.” “No one even noticed.”

But one lie is more dangerous than most: “It’s not really a problem.” We tell ourselves that our finances aren’t a problem, our marriage isn’t in trouble, and our temper isn’t out of control.

Lying to ourselves is the number one way we mess up our lives. The Bible says, “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us” (1 John 1:8 NIV). Sin causes us to deceive ourselves, and deception causes us to sin. 

Behind every self-defeating act in our lives is a lie we’ve believed. Either we’ve lied to ourselves or we’ve believed one of Satan’s lies. The Bible says our heart is “deceitful above all things” (Jeremiah 17:9 NIV). You and I have an amazing ability to lie to ourselves.

It’s time to stop. Stop rationalizing. Stop minimizing your behavior. Stop excusing. Stop tolerating.

To stop defeating yourself—doing all of those self-defeating behaviors that cripple your ability to follow Jesus faithfully—you have to stop deceiving yourself. Jesus said, “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32 NIV). But first, the truth will make you miserable! You can’t break free from these self-defeating behaviors if you won’t admit they exist.

You can’t beat the problem if you’re lying to yourself about it. Victory starts with telling the truth about yourself and being willing to do something about it.

Elige la Esperanza

“Una cosa quiero tener presente y poner en ella mi esperanza: El amor del Señor no tiene fin, ni se han agotado sus bondades. Cada mañana se renuevan; ¡qué grande es su fidelidad! Y me digo: ¡El Señor lo es todo para mí; por eso en él confío!”. Lamentaciones 3:21-24 (DHH)

Sentir dolor es una parte natural de la vida. No puedes escapar; siempre tendremos fracasos en nuestras relaciones personales, oportunidades perdidas, y las duras temporadas de la vida. Cuando estas situaciones se presentan en nuestra vida, tenemos la opción de amargarnos o tener esperanza.

¡La opción es tuya!

Jeremías tuvo que enfrentarse con las mismas opciones cuando su mundo se derrumbó después que Jerusalén fue atacada en 586 A.C. El profeta escribió el libro de Lamentaciones para expresar todas sus frustraciones con Dios. Él nunca se contentó con su amargura y cambió su actitud.

En medio de una terrible situación, Jeremías cambio su perspectiva. Es bueno y saludable para nosotros que seamos honestos con Dios con respecto a nuestros sentimientos de dolor, a la misma vez nuestra perspectiva debe cambiar eventualmente, si permitimos que nuestros pensamientos se queden estancados en el dolor, no vamos a resolver nada.

En cambio y como lo hizo Jeremías, necesitamos reconocer el gran amor que Dios nos tiene. Jeremías cambió su perspectiva y reconoció la gracia infinita de Dios. No importa cual problema sea, no importa cuanta ira tengas con Dios, Él todavía te ama. Su amor es constante y puedes depender de Él, ¡no importa lo que sea!

Entre más te enfoques en lo negativo, más deprimido vas a estar. La amargura te mantiene preso en tu propio dolor. En Lamentaciones 3, Jeremías te da la cura para la amargura. Cambia tu manera de pensar.

En medio de una racha depresiva, Jeremías dijo “Una cosa quiero tener presente y poner en ella mi esperanza: El amor del Señor no tiene fin, ni se han agotado sus bondades. Cada mañana se renuevan; ¡qué grande es su fidelidad!” Lamentaciones 3:21-23 (DHH).

¿Cómo puedes mantener tu esperanza hasta en los días más difíciles? Recordando: “¡El Señor lo es todo para mí; por eso en él confío!” Lamentaciones 3:24 (DHH).

Tú puedes contar con Él. Su misericordia es tan nueva como cada mañana y tan segura como la puesta del sol. Él es todo lo que necesitas y a pesar de las circunstancias en Él puedes confiar.

Nunca vas a saber que Dios es todo lo que necesitas, hasta que Dios sea todo lo que tengas.

¿Ya estás ahí? No hay mejor lugar donde estar.

Winning the Battle Inside of You

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

Ephesians 6:12 (NIV)

You may not realize it, but you’re in a battle. You may not wear a military uniform, and you may not dodge physical bullets.

But you’re in a battle—an invisible one. It’s called spiritual warfare. You’ll be in the battle from the moment you’re born until the moment you die.

The Bible tells us that you have three mortal enemies out to destroy your life and everything God wants to do through it:

The world: the dominant value system around usThe flesh: the old nature within youThe Devil: a real being that’s out to “steal and kill and destroy” (John 10:10 NIV) along with his demonic minions

The victory for the battle you’re in won’t come through bullets or tactics. The Bible teaches us that, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12 NIV).

In this battle, all that matters is Jesus. He has to be the general of your life, the one in charge of the battle plan. You may be a believer, but that’s not enough for this war within you. Jesus has to be your Lord, too.

Many people believe in Jesus. But to find victory over the world, the flesh, and the Devil, Jesus has to be more than just someone you believe in.

Romans 7:24-25 says, “What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!” (NIV)

The answer to the all-consuming battle you’re in isn’t a self-help seminar, a new book, or a conference. It’s Jesus. Make him your boss. Paul, who wrote the book of Romans, makes it clear he can’t win the battle on his own. His only hope is “Jesus Christ our Lord.”

And that’s your only hope, too. Jesus, the Lord, who will deliver you.

No hay Condenación si Perteneces a Jesús

“Ya no hay condenación para los que pertenecen a Cristo Jesús”. Romanos 8:1 (NTV)

La Biblia dice que no serás perfecto después de convertirte en cristiano. Si alguien te dice lo contrario, no te están diciendo la verdad. Vas a equivocarte. Vas a fallar algunas veces. Y lo más probable es que tú mismo (u otros) te recordarán tus fracasos.

Pero, si eres un seguidor de Jesús, puedes estar seguro de esto: El Señor nunca te condena.

Demasiados creyentes viven con temor, amargura e inseguridad. A pesar de que son salvos y lo podrías saber por la forma en que viven. Están demasiado cargados ​​por el miedo de que Dios vaya a condenarlos por lo que han hecho mal. En lugar de hacer frente a su propia culpa, la arrojan a las otras personas.

Sin embargo la Biblia dice que no hay necesidad: “Ya no hay condenación para los que pertenecen a Cristo Jesús” Romanos 8:1 (NTV).

En otras palabras, si has confiado en Cristo, Dios no te juzga por todas las cosas que has hecho mal. Jesús tomó todo esa condenación sobre Sí mismo en la cruz. Dios no tiene que juzgarte porque Jesús fue juzgado por ti. ¡Él tomó toda la culpa de tus pecados!

Esto es una excelente noticia. Son las Buenas Nuevas. No hay ninguna razón por la  que un cristiano camine en vergüenza. No hay razón para estar amargado o vivir en vergüenza. Antes de que nacieras, Él sabía cada pecado que ibas a cometer —y Él pagó por ellos.

No importa lo que has hecho en tu pasado. No importa a quien has herido. No importa lo que otras personas te digan. Si has entregado tu vida a Cristo, estás perdonado.

The Word “No” Is Important for Your Spiritual Journey

“Let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up.”

Hebrews 12:1 (NLT)

The most important word to remember for your spiritual journey may be a surprising one: no.

Your faith journey is a long one. Too many people start off well in their spiritual journey but putter out before the end. God wants you to go the distance.  

You’ve got a marathon ahead of you, and you can’t run that marathon with a barbell in your hands. People often quit their faith journey early because everything they’re carrying wears them out.

We need to de-clutter.

A cruise liner can get pretty fast in the middle of the water, but if it’s dragging a hundred lifeboats alongside it, it will slow it down. Plug a battery into one light bulb, and it’ll go a long way. Plug it into 15, and it drains much more quickly. Plug it into 100, and it’ll drain even more quickly.

That’s what happens to us when we try to do too much. Sometimes doing good keeps us from doing the best.

Hebrews 12:1 says, “Let us strip off every weight that slows us down” (NLT). 

Weights aren’t bad; they’re not sinful. They’re just unnecessary. What is a weight in your life? It could be a job, a relationship, or a hobby. It’s something that slows you down from what God wants from your life. And it’s not worth it.

It’s time for you to “strip off every weight” that’s slowing you down.

La Fuerza de Voluntad no Va a Resolver tu Problema

“Amo la ley de Dios con todo mi corazón, pero hay otro poder dentro de mí que está en guerra con mi mente. Ese poder me esclaviza al pecado que todavía está dentro de mí”. Romanos 7:22-23 (NTV)

Hay una guerra interna en ti que va a durar toda tu vida entre lo que solías ser y en lo que te has convertido en Jesucristo. Pablo, el misionero más condecorado en la historia del cristianismo y el autor de la mayor parte del Nuevo Testamento, luchó con esto mismo.

La Biblia dice en Romanos 7:22-23, “Amo la ley de Dios con todo mi corazón, pero hay otro poder dentro de mí que está en guerra con mi mente. Ese poder me esclaviza al pecado que todavía está dentro de mí” Romanos 7:22-23 (NTV).

Odio tener que decirte esto, pero siempre vas a tener esta batalla. Nunca podrás superarla. No se puede leer suficiente las Escrituras para hacer que las tentaciones desaparezcan. No podrás esconderte de ellas.

Hasta que no llegues al Cielo, estarás en medio de una batalla sin cuartel entre tus dos naturalezas. Yo he sido un creyente por mucho tiempo, pero mi vieja naturaleza sigue ahí. Mi vieja naturaleza quiere que yo sea orgulloso, lujurioso, egoísta, engañoso, y francamente pecaminoso.

La pregunta es, ¿qué vas a hacer al respecto?

La fuerza de voluntad no va a resolver el problema. Sólo porque deseas cambiar y pones todas tus fuerzas en hacer ese cambio no significa que vas a poder hacerlo. Es posible que funcione por un tiempo, pero te cansarás y pararás de hacer el esfuerzo.

En tu caminar espiritual, desearás optar por seguir tu nueva naturaleza, es decir, decidirás el no seguir tu vieja naturaleza. Por ejemplo, si eres tentado por la lujuria, pero de inmediato te alejas de la tentación, no alimentarás más al viejo hombre. Si, cuando eres tentado con el orgullo, recuerdas de tu dependencia de Dios, tu vieja naturaleza no podrá durar mucho.

Your Heavenly Cheering Squad

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.”

Hebrews 12:1 (NLT)

Home field advantage can mean everything in sports. Teams often have a far better record for games played at home than those on the road. When a team has someone cheering them on, they can often outplay their ability.

The Bible says that you, too, have an audience cheering you on. Hebrews 12:1 says, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us” (NLT).

Nothing you do is private. You have an audience. Heaven is watching. But, more importantly, you have a cheering section. The Bible says that everyone in heaven is cheering you on.

You probably realize that God knows everything. The Bible says, “The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth” (2 Chronicles 16:9 KJV). The Lord doesn’t miss a thing. He knows your ups and your downs—your everything. He knows every thought you have.

But you’re also surrounded by “a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith.” Moses is watching you. Abraham is watching you. Every believer who has ever lived is in the stands watching you live out your faith.

And they’re cheering you on. When you’re scared, they’re rooting for you to be courageous. When you want to give up, they’re urging you to keep going. When you feel insignificant and forgotten, they’re in your corner.

Life can get really hard sometimes, but don’t give up. You have a heavenly cheering squad!

Talk It Over

What does understanding that God knows your ups and downs change for you?
Who do you think is among your cloud of witnesses? Are there friends or family who have gone on before you?
What goals do you believe God wants you to pursue? How does knowing you have a heavenly cheering squad help you work toward those goals?

No matter what you’ve done or where you’ve been . . .

You have a place in God’s forever family. The invitation is wide open. Just believe and receive.

How do you get there? Trust in God’s character and the grace he extends. Confess your sins and ask God to forgive you. Claim the promise of Jesus, that salvation is free and open to anyone who turns from their sins and agrees to follow him as their Lord and Savior. Humbly ask God to accept you into his forever family.

Are you ready? Then start your journey by praying this simple prayer: “Dear God, I know when I die, I’m going to give an account of my life to you. I know I have sinned against you, and I have lived by my plan, not yours. I want to turn away from my sins and toward you.

“Thank you for sending Jesus to die for all that I’ve done wrong so that I don’t have to pay the penalty. I know I don’t deserve your forgiveness. I know only your grace can save me, Lord. I could never be good enough to get into a perfect place.

“Jesus, thank you for loving me so much that you took all my guilt on yourself. You made me acceptable for heaven, and I humbly ask you to save me. I believe in you, Jesus. And I believe you will keep your promise to save me instantly, certainly, completely, and eternally. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

6 Ways to Find Hope in Heartache

What do you do when your world falls apart? When you get laid off? When a loved one walks out the door? When the latest world news scares you?

Jeremiah, an Old Testament prophet, had similar questions. During a time when Israel faced economic crisis, captivity, and starvation, Jeremiah wrote Lamentations, a book mourning God’s judgment on his people and the destruction of Jerusalem. But in the middle of his heartache, when his world seemed to be falling apart, Jeremiah remembered to do six things to help rebuild his life—and you can do them too.

1. Unload all your frustrations on God. Jeremiah was honest with God and said things like, “I am the man who has seen affliction by the rod of the LORD’s wrath. He has driven me away and made me walk in darkness rather than light” (Lamentations 3:1-2 NIV). God can handle your anger, frustration, and grief.

2. Turn your focus from your pain to God’s love. After focusing on his trouble, Jeremiah eventually turned his attention to what he knew to be true about God: “Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail” (Lamentations 3:21-22 NIV).

3. Get alone with God, and wait. Waiting on God is a spiritual discipline. You literally sit quietly and wait for God to move—and he will! Jeremiah said, “When life is heavy and hard to take, go off by yourself. Enter the silence. Bow in prayer. Don’t ask questions: Wait for hope to appear” (Lamentations 3:28-29 MSG).

4. Change what you can change. There are many things you can’t change. But you can look at your life and see where you need to grow or how you need to repent. Jeremiah said, “Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the LORD” (Lamentations 3:40 NIV).

5. Ask God to relieve your fears. That’s what Jeremiah did, and God answered: “You came near when I called you, and you said, ‘Do not fear’” (Lamentations 3:57 NIV). God wants you to live free of fear.

6. Expect Jesus to restore your life. Pray like Jeremiah: “Restore us, O LORD, and bring us back to you again! Give us back the joys we once had!” (Lamentations 5:21 NLT). When you let God bring you back to Jesus, he will restore your joy.

No matter how broken the world may seem, remember that you serve a caring, all-powerful God who loves you. As you follow Jeremiah’s example, you’ll find hope, purpose, and joy.

El Ingrediente que Falta en Tu Batalla contra el Pecado

Puedes hacer todo bien y aun así no derrotar el pecado. Puedes leer la Biblia cada día. Puedes orar. Puedes tener un grupo de amigos cerca de ti quienes te dirán la verdad en amor sobre algo que no está bien.

Y todavía puedes quedarte atrapado en el pecado habitual.

Al final del día, no debes depender de ti mismo y de lo que puedes hacer para derrotar el pecado. Necesitas el poder del Espíritu Santo. El Espíritu Santo dota a los creyentes para hacer lo que no pueden hacer y cumplir el deseo de Dios para sus vidas.

Gálatas 5:16 dice: “Por eso les digo: dejen que el Espíritu Santo los guíe en la vida. Entonces no se dejarán llevar por los impulsos de la naturaleza pecaminosa” (NTV).

Puedes tener todo el equipo necesario para vencer el pecado habitual en tu vida, pero todo esto no importa sin el Espíritu Santo. Imagina si estuvieras caminando por la playa y ves una gaviota que murió hace un minuto. Si la levantas, sus partes no serían diferentes a cuando estaba viva. Todavía estaría caliente. Tendría los mismos músculos, huesos, plumas y alas. Pero si la lanzas arriba hacia el cielo, va a caer de vuelta al suelo.

¿Por qué? La gaviota no tiene vida. La vida no está en sus plumas, alas o huesos. Está en la vida que Dios pone en ella. Sin un espíritu, el pájaro no volará, aunque tenga todo el equipo adecuado.

Tú puedes tener todo el equipo necesario para vivir una vida de éxito, una vida victoriosa, pero sin el empoderamiento del Espíritu Santo, no puedes vivir esa clase de vida.

Es como tirar un pájaro muerto al aire.

No se puede vivir la vida victoriosa de Cristo por tu cuenta. Es imposible. Tus mejores intenciones y tus promesas rotas fácilmente no te permitirán vivir una vida Cristiana. El Espíritu Santo tiene que vivir a través de ti.
