Change the Way You Think, Change Your Life

“Make no mistake about this: You can never make a fool out of God. Whatever you plant is what you’ll harvest.”

Galatians 6:7 (GW)

You don’t plant apple seeds and get tomatoes.

In the same way, you don’t plant bitterness and get love. You don’t plant criticism and then get encouragement from other people.

Galatians 6:7 says, “Make no mistake about this: You can never make a fool out of God. Whatever you plant is what you’ll harvest” (GW).

Read that again: “Whatever you plant is what you’ll harvest.” If you plant in the soil of your sinful nature, you’ll harvest destruction. But if you plant in the soil of your spiritual nature, you’ll harvest everlasting life.

God has said for thousands of years that our sins can affect future generations. For instance, when you’re angry and you lose your temper with your kids, you’re setting them up to lose their temper with their kids. Sins get perpetuated in families, possibly for multiple generations. Not only does it work relationally and environmentally, but it also works physically. We now know your brain can actually be changed by repetitive behavior, for good or for bad.

Everyone used to think the brain was pretty much set in stone by the time you were an adolescent. Now we know about brain plasticity and how your brain can continue to be molded for the rest of your life.

That’s good to know! It means if your brain has been naturally molded toward depression or a quick temper or anxiety, it can change.

But you’ve got to change the way you think. The Bible refers to this as repentance or changing your mind. You can change your mind, and when you do, it changes the way you feel. And when you change the way you feel, it changes the way you act.

Then, you plant in your spiritual nature and watch what amazing fruit God will reap in your life.

Como Desarrollar Convicciones Fuertes

“Es, pues, la fe la certeza de lo que se espera, la convicción de lo que no se ve”. Hebreos 11:1 (RVR1960)

Los diccionarios suelen definir “convicción” como una creencia fija o fuerte, pero la convicción es mucho más que eso. Además de tus creencias, tus convicciones incluyen tus valores, compromisos y motivaciones.

Me gusta la definición de convicción que una vez escuché del gran maestro de la Biblia Howard Hendricks. Él dijo: “Una creencia es algo sobre lo que discutirás. Una convicción es algo por lo que morirás”.

Tus convicciones determinan tu conducta. Te motivan a tomar una posición y actuar de acuerdo con tus valores.

Cuando te conviertes en cristiano por primera vez, a menudo haces cosas simplemente porque los cristianos a tu alrededor te las sugieren o las modelan. Puedes orar, leer la Biblia y asistir a los servicios de la iglesia debido a su ejemplo.

Esto está bien para un nuevo cristiano; los niños pequeños aprenden de la misma manera. Sin embargo, a medida que creces, eventualmente debes desarrollar tus propias razones para hacer lo que haces. Esas razones se convierten en convicciones.

Las convicciones bíblicas son esenciales para el crecimiento y la madurez espiritual. Irónicamente, muchas personas hoy en día tienen fuertes convicciones sobre temas menores, como el fútbol o la moda. Al mismo tiempo, tienen convicciones débiles sobre temas importantes, como lo que está bien y lo que está mal.

Hebreos 11:1 dice: “Es, pues, la fe la certeza de lo que se espera, la convicción de lo que no se ve” (RVR1960).

Desarrollar convicciones bíblicas sólidas requiere tiempo y compromiso. Pero vale la pena. A la larga, te ayudarán a vivir una vida coherente e impulsada por la fe.

Your Sin Is Never Private

“None of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone.”

Romans 14:7 (NIV)

Sin may be secret, but it’s never private. It will either come out now, here on earth, or at Judgment Day, but it’s going to be known.

Numbers 32:23 is one of the scariest verses in the Bible: “You may be sure that your sin will find you out” (NIV).

Another reason why sin is never private is because everything you do, good or bad, affects other people—even if they don’t know what’s going on.

If someone close to you stayed up all night doing some really immoral things and then saw you in the morning, you would notice something was off. You might not know what happened, but the result of their sin would be obvious in the way they behaved. Very few people could act as if nothing happened.

It doesn’t even have to be some big sin you commit. It could be the sin of omission. If you have a regular quiet time with God and then go a few days without spending time in God’s presence, there’s probably going to be a difference in how you react to people and circumstances. That’s because when you’re not plugged in, you don’t have spiritual power to fight sin.

The Bible says in Romans 14:7, “None of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone” (NIV).

A lot of people will say, “What I do with my life is no one else’s business. As long as I’m not hurting anybody, why should anyone else care?” But you are hurting other people. God made us to be connected people, and what we do and say always has an effect on others.

Sin affects you in ways you don’t even realize, and then your actions affect others. When you sin, it cuts you off from God’s power and keeps you from your potential. It limits the good you can do and the impact you can have.

Isn’t it sad to think of what you and others are missing when you’re not at your God-given best? There is only one way to move past the sin that holds you back and hurts others: Confess it.

Dos Cosas que Necesitas para una Valentía Fuera de lo Común

“No desechen la firme confianza que tienen en el Señor. ¡Tengan presente la gran recompensa que les traerá!”. Hebreos 10:35 (NTV)

Tu visión del mundo es el filtro a través del cual ves el mundo. Como cristiano, encontrarás que muchas personas a tu alrededor tienen una visión del mundo diferente a la tuya. Pueden desaprobar o incluso oponerse a tu cosmovisión cristiana. Entonces, cuando te enfrentas a tales críticas, ¿cómo vives con una valentía fuera de lo común?

Tienes que hacer dos cosas:

Necesitas aceptar la Palabra de Dios como tu autoridad. Es la única fuente de verdad. Para ser un hombre o una mujer valiente, debes construir tu vida sobre la roca que nunca cambia, no sobre la opinión popular.

Hebreos 6:18 dice: “Así que Dios ha hecho ambas cosas: la promesa y el juramento. Estas dos cosas no pueden cambiar, porque es imposible que Dios mienta. Por lo tanto, los que hemos acudido a él en busca de refugio podemos estar bien confiados aferrándonos a la esperanza que está delante de nosotros” (NTV).

¿Construirás tu vida sobre la opinión mundial o sobre la Palabra de Dios? Digo cosas todo el tiempo que son impopulares. ¿Por qué? Porque temo más desagradar a Dios que el rechazo de alguien.

Si no sabes lo que crees, debes averiguarlo conociendo la Biblia. Tu iglesia local es un gran recurso y puede ayudarte a encontrar el material que necesitas para familiarizarte más con la Palabra de Dios.

Necesitas pasar tiempo con Jesús. Cuanto más tiempo pases con Jesús, menos intimidado estarás por las opiniones de los demás y más valor tendrás para tomar una posición. Esto fue cierto para los seguidores de Jesús en la Biblia: “Los miembros del Concilio quedaron asombrados cuando vieron el valor de Pedro y de Juan, porque veían que eran hombres comunes sin ninguna preparación especial en las Escrituras. También los identificaron como hombres que habían estado con Jesús” Hechos 4:13 (NTV).

Defender con valentía una opinión impopular no es fácil, pero las recompensas de defender con valentía la verdad durarán para siempre. Hebreos 10:35 dice: “No desechen la firme confianza que tienen en el Señor. ¡Tengan presente la gran recompensa que les traerá!” (NTV).

Si quieres tener una valentía fuera de lo común, haz esta oración esto hoy:

“Dios, quiero ser una persona valiente. Quiero vivir para complacerte a ti y no a otras personas. Quiero construir mi vida sobre una cosmovisión bíblica y defender con valentía mi fe. Hoy hago estos dos compromisos: Primero, acepto tu Palabra como mi autoridad. Es una base sólida para mi vida. Segundo, Señor, quiero pasar tiempo contigo todos los días. Quiero llegar a conocerte personalmente. Quiero estar tan lleno de alegría y valentía que la gente diga: ‘Esa persona ha estado con Jesús’. Te pido que me ayudes a no tener miedo a la verdad. En tu nombre Jesús oro. Amén”.

It’s Time to Start Doubting Your Doubts

“The world’s sin is unbelief in me.”

John 16:9 (TLB)

At the root of every sin rests at least a momentary doubt about God.

In John 16:9 Jesus says, “The world’s sin is unbelief in me” (TLB). When you don’t believe Jesus is who he says he is or he’ll do what he says he’ll do, that’s the root of all sin.

Here are some emotions you can look for that can help you know when you’re doubting God.

When you become fearful or anxious, it often reveals your unbelief in God’s promises. The Bible offers more than 7,000 promises. If you claim them, you’ll see your fear and anxiety levels go down. It’s the world’s greatest insurance policy.

When you become impatient, it reveals your doubt in God’s perfect timing. God has a plan for your life, but he’s never going to be in a hurry. That’s easy to forget when you want things to happen on your own timetable—so you take matters into your own hands instead of waiting on God.

When you become resentful or bitter, it reveals your doubt in God’s wisdom. God is wise and good and loving. But when things don’t turn out like you plan or want, you think he messed up somehow. And you don’t believe he can bring good out of bad.

When you dwell in guilty feelings, it reveals your unbelief in God’s forgiveness. How long should a follower of Jesus feel guilty? About one second. That’s how long it takes to confess a sin. If you’re carrying around guilt, it means you can’t forgive yourself because you don’t believe God has forgiven you.

When you feel inadequate, it reveals your doubt in God’s power. God has said his power shows up best in your weakness. But when you don’t believe that, it shows you think power should come only from yourself. If you think that, you’re always going to be disappointed.

Do you want to turn around those feelings of fear, impatience, resentment, guilt, and inadequacy? Then you need to start doubting your doubts.

If you believe in God’s Word, you can trust what it says about God and the way he feels about you and takes care of you. You can trust that God keeps his promises, has perfect timing, is wise, forgives you, and works powerfully through you.

Decide Acercarte a la Santidad

“¡No tengas miedo! ¡Habla con libertad! ¡No te quedes callado!”. Hechos 18:9 (NTV)

Durante los últimos días, hemos estado analizando juntos lo que significa desarrollar una cosmovisión cristiana. A medida que formas tu cosmovisión, es importante comprender la postura de Dios sobre tres temas que son controvertidos en muchas culturas hoy en día.

Elegí estos tres porque hablar sobre ellos requiere más valor. La mayoría de las personas no solo no estarán de acuerdo contigo sobre estos temas, sino que también discutirán apasionadamente contigo.

Se necesita una valentía fuera de lo común para hacer frente a ese tipo de presión.

Hay muchas partes de la Biblia con las que la gente no tiene problemas, como cuando se nos dice que ayudemos a los pobres. Nadie está en desacuerdo con eso. Pero el mundo odia algunas partes de las Escrituras, y eso dificulta que los cristianos defiendan lo que saben que es correcto.

Aquí hay tres temas relacionados con la santidad que los cristianos de hoy deben defender.

La santidad de la vida: Dios tiene un propósito para cada niño por nacer. Dios planeó tu vida antes de que nacieras: “Me viste antes de que naciera. Cada día de mi vida estaba registrado en tu libro. Cada momento fue diseñado antes de que un solo día pasara” Salmo 139:16 (NTV). Debemos hablar por aquellos que no pueden hablar por sí mismos: los no nacidos, las decenas de millones de bebés en todo el mundo que estarían aquí si no hubieran sido abortados. Si pretendo ser cristiano, entonces debo creer que toda vida es sagrada.La santidad del sexo: El sexo es sólo para el matrimonio. El sexo es idea de Dios. No está sucio ni es malo; el sexo es sagrado. “Honren el matrimonio, y los casados manténganse fieles el uno al otro. Con toda seguridad, Dios juzgará a los que cometen inmoralidades sexuales y a los que cometen adulterio” Hebreos 13:4 (NTV). Las instrucciones de Dios nunca cambian: el sexo prematrimonial es inaceptable para Dios. Vivir juntos sin estar casados ​​es inaceptable para Dios. El adulterio es inaceptable para Dios. La pornografía y mirar a la mujer como si fuera un objeto son inaceptables para Dios.La santidad del matrimonio: Un hombre y una mujer para toda la vida. Ese es el diseño original y previsto de Dios. Mucha gente pregunta: “Bueno, ¿qué pasa con toda la poligamia en la Biblia?” El hecho de que la Biblia diga la verdad sobre algo que sucedió no significa que Dios lo aprobó. Y la Biblia es muy clara sobre el tema del matrimonio: “Jesús respondió: ¿No han leído las Escrituras? Las personas de buena voluntad pueden estar en desacuerdo sobre muchos temas de la vida. Por ejemplo, la Biblia no ofrece ningún plan de recuperación económica, por lo que los cristianos pueden estar en desacuerdo al respecto. Pero, como seguidor de Cristo, es importante alinearse con lo que Dios dice sobre la santidad de la vida, el sexo y el matrimonio. Y debes tener el valor de defenderlos y especialmente cuando, no es lo más popular o políticamente correcto.

Dios está listo para perdonar

Después de leer este devocional, es posible que te preguntes: “¿Pero ¿qué pasa si ya he pecado y he violado las normas de Dios en lo que respecta a la santidad de la vida, el sexo o el matrimonio?” Tal vez has tenido un aborto, sexo fuera del matrimonio o un divorcio.

La buena noticia es esta: no importa lo que hayas hecho o dónde hayas estado, Dios te perdonará.

La Biblia dice: “Pero si confesamos nuestros pecados a Dios, él es fiel y justo para perdonarnos nuestros pecados y limpiarnos de toda maldad” 1 Juan 1:9 (NTV).

Si bien se necesita valor para oponerse a la presión cultural, también se necesita valor para admitir que te has equivocado y luego pedir perdón. Entonces, si has pecado en cualquiera de estas tres áreas, debes saber que la gracia de Dios está lista y esperando por ti. Él promete perdonar tus pecados.

Acércate a Él hoy y admite lo que has hecho mal, pídele perdón y luego avanza en la gracia de Dios, sabiendo que estás perdonado.

Sin Is the Opposite of God

“Everything he does is good.”

Psalm 111:7 (NCV)

When you ask people what sin is, you’ll get a wide range of answers, from murder to forgetting to call your mom on Mother’s Day.

Most of the time, people think of sin as bad behavior. And your bad behaviors often do reveal sin. But the Bible tells us that God pays more attention to our thoughts than our behaviors—because it’s sinful thinking that leads to sinful behavior.

So what is sin? Sin is the opposite of God. The Bible says, “Everything he does is good,” “he is good to everyone and has compassion on all he made,” and “everything that God has created is good” (Psalm 111:7 NCV, Psalm 145:9 GNT, 1 Timothy 4:4 GNT).

Everything God does is good, and everything he created is good. But when we take what God created and use it in bad ways, that is sin.

For example, when you use prescription drugs the right way, they can bring helpful relief. But when you misuse and abuse drugs, something good becomes something harmful. Money is neither good nor bad. It can be used for great good, but it also can be used for incredibly bad things.

God expects you to turn from your sins and start walking faithfully toward him. Part of faith is trusting that God has your best interests in mind. You don’t have to wonder what God is like. The Bible says clearly that he is perfect and does not sin.

While you will never be perfect on earth, you can become more like Jesus. This starts by turning away from sin and making choices every day to pursue what is good and godly.

“Jesus, I confess my sin, and I believe you are my Savior. I trust you when you say salvation comes by grace, through faith, and not by anything I do. I ask you to come into my life as my Lord. Today, I commit my life to you.
 

“I want to live the way you created me to live—at peace and rested—and to use the remainder of my life to serve you. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

¿Qué está Influyendo en tu Visión del Mundo?

“Todo aquel que me reconozca en público aquí en la tierra también lo reconoceré delante de mi Padre en el cielo; pero al que me niegue aquí en la tierra también yo lo negaré delante de mi Padre en el cielo”. Mateo 10:32-33 (NTV)

Para vivir con un valor fuera de lo común y defender a Cristo, debes aclarar tu visión del mundo, el filtro a través del cual ves y comprendes el mundo. Ayer vimos lo que significa desarrollar una cosmovisión cristiana. Pero también necesitas comprender las cosmovisiones no cristianas que compiten por tu devoción todos los días.

Aquí hay cuatro cosmovisiones populares. Mientras las lees, pídele a Dios que te muestre formas en que estas cosmovisiones pueden estar influenciándote más que una cosmovisión cristiana.

Materialismo: Lo que más importa es el dinero. Los materialistas miden su éxito por la riqueza. El problema con este punto de vista es el siguiente: no trajiste nada al mundo y no sacarás nada de él. Fuiste hecho para algo más que cosas. Lucas 12:15 dice: “¡Tengan cuidado con toda clase de avaricia! La vida no se mide por cuánto tienen” (NTV). Las mejores cosas de la vida no son cosas.

Hedonismo: Todo lo que se siente bien es bueno. Para los hedonistas, el placer es su dios. Su objetivo en la vida es estar cómodo y divertirse. Pero la felicidad no es la meta en la vida; la felicidad es fruto de vivir tu propósito. La santidad crea felicidad. La Biblia dice: “Los que viven solo para satisfacer los deseos de su propia naturaleza pecaminosa cosecharán, de esa naturaleza, destrucción y muerte; pero los que viven para agradar al Espíritu, del Espíritu, cosecharán vida eterna” Gálatas 6:8 (NTV).

Individualismo: Lo que quiero es lo primero. Estados Unidos se construyó sobre un individualismo resistente, y hoy eso se ha convertido en una cultura de narcisismo. Pero Dios no te creó para vivir para ti. Si quieres seguir a Jesús, tienes que dejar de lado tu ambición egoísta. Romanos 2:8 dice: “Derramará su ira y enojo sobre los que viven para sí mismos, los que se niegan a obedecer la verdad y, en cambio, viven entregados a la maldad” (NTV). Dios se opone al egocentrismo porque Dios es amor, y el amor nunca es egoísta.

La política como religión: He hablado en muchas conferencias seculares importantes y he descubierto esto: la política es la religión de las personas que no conocen a Dios. No hay nada de malo con la política, pero no debería ser tu salvador. Filipenses 3:20 dice: “Nosotros somos ciudadanos del cielo, donde vive el Señor Jesucristo; y esperamos con mucho anhelo que él regrese como nuestro Salvador” (NTV). Se un ciudadano responsable. Pero dale tu mayor lealtad a Dios, no al gobierno.

¿Cuál es el resultado de estas cosmovisiones populares? El desmoronamiento de nuestra cultura, la crisis en nuestras escuelas, la corrupción en nuestros negocios, el caos en nuestro gobierno, la carnalidad en nuestras iglesias, la confusión en nuestras familias y los conflictos en nuestra vida personal. Cuando no sigues el manual del Propietario de la vida, te lastimas. En otras palabras, cuando quebrantas las leyes de Dios, tú también eres quebrantado.

Para contrarrestar estas cosmovisiones predominantes, Dios está llamando a los cristianos a defender su verdad “contra la opinión mundial”. Solo puedes hacer eso cuando tienes una base sólida en la Palabra de Dios y una valentía fuera de lo común que proviene de una relación con Él.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

The Only Truth That Sets You Free

“You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

John 8:32 (NLT)

A lot of things that are true won’t set you free. You can learn how to program a computer, but that won’t set you free. You could read all the latest self-help books, but that won’t set you free either.

The only truth that sets you free is the truth of God’s Word: “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32 NLT). A lot of people can quote this verse, but not everyone acknowledges that it’s talking about the Bible or is even from the Bible.

If knowing God’s Word is the only way to be free, then you’ve got to make reading and studying the Bible a priority in your life. You’ve got to feed your mind on the truth of God’s Word.

The ancient Israelite King David understood how important God’s Word is. There was a time when he had so many enemies that he was actually a fugitive. He was running for his life and hiding in caves. But no matter what happened, he fed himself with God’s truth.

Psalm 119:95 is one of the psalms he wrote during this time, and it says, “Though the wicked hide along the way to kill me, I will quietly keep my mind on your laws” (NLT).

When you look at things happening around the world, it’s easy to get discouraged. When you scroll through your news feed, listen to talk radio, or watch the news, you may start to feel down. You may start to feel hopeless. But when you fill your mind with the truth of God’s Word, then you will have more hope and a better perspective on your life—even when you’re in a crisis and running from your enemies.

The Bible says, “How I love your law! I think about it all day long” (Psalm 119:97 GNT). It might be intimidating to try to think about God’s Word all day long. That’s because it doesn’t come naturally to anyone! You might struggle to think about God’s Word even one time in your day, but you can start somewhere.

Try starting your day with the Word of God. Spend 10 minutes reading the Bible in the morning, and then you can think about what you read throughout your day. And the Holy Spirit will help you recall what you’ve read when you when you need it in difficult times.

Cómo Tener una Valentía Fuera de lo Común

“Todo aquel que me reconozca en público aquí en la tierra también lo reconoceré delante de mi Padre en el cielo”. Mateo 10:32 (NTV)

En un mundo lleno de ideas y creencias que van en contra de la Palabra de Dios, Dios quiere que tengas un valor fuera de lo común y defiendas a Cristo. Para hacer esto de manera efectiva, necesitas desarrollar una cosmovisión cristiana.

¿Qué es una cosmovisión? Es el filtro a través del cual ves y entiendes el mundo. El filtro de cada persona es un poco diferente. Incluso cuando todos miramos el mismo evento, es posible que lo veas de manera diferente a los que te rodean debido a las diferentes visiones del mundo.

Tu cosmovisión influye en la forma en que ves todo, incluidos Dios, tú mismo, los demás, el pasado, el presente, el futuro, el dinero, el tiempo, el bien y el mal. Tu visión del mundo influye en cada elección que haces. Cada vez que tomas una decisión, la miras a través del filtro de tu visión del mundo y haces tu elección con base en las creencias que conforman tu visión del mundo.

Entonces, es crucial que, como seguidor de Jesús, tengas como base de tu visión del mundo la verdad de la Palabra de Dios.

Una encuesta nacional encontró que el 62 por ciento de los estadounidenses afirman que son “profundamente espirituales”. Cuando se les preguntó cómo esa espiritualidad afecta su toma de decisiones, el 31 por ciento dijo que toma decisiones morales basadas en “lo que se siente bien y cómodo”, el 18 por ciento en “lo que sea mejor para mí”, el 14 por ciento en “lo que cause el menor conflicto con los demás” y solo el 16 por ciento en “lo que dice la Palabra de Dios”.

¿Qué significa esto? Significa que la mayoría de los cristianos tienen una cosmovisión no cristiana. Puedes ser cristiano y dirigirte al cielo, pero también puedes tener una cosmovisión no cristiana porque la has basado en lo que has aprendido del mundo y no de la Palabra de Dios.

Tener una cosmovisión cristiana sólida te permite mantenerte valiente como creyente, ser alguien que se pone de pie y dice la verdad. ¿Por qué eso importa tanto? Mateo 10:32-33 dice: “Todo aquel que me reconozca en público aquí en la tierra también lo reconoceré delante de mi Padre en el cielo” (NTV).

Dios espera que, como uno de sus seguidores, defiendas Su verdad. Tomar ese tipo de posición requiere un valor poco común que solo está disponible a través de una cosmovisión cristiana basada en el conocimiento y la comprensión de la Palabra de Dios.
