How God Tests You and Then Blesses You

“If you cannot be trusted with this wicked wealth, who will trust you with true wealth? And if you cannot be trusted with what belongs to someone else, who will give you something that will be your own? You cannot be the slave of two masters. You will like one more than the other or be more loyal to one than to the other. You cannot serve God and money.”

Luke 16:11-13 (CEV)

Faithful people are generous, even when they don’t have anything to give.

Anybody can be generous when they have a surplus. You can be generous with your time when you’ve got a lot of extra time. You can be generous with your money when you’ve got a lot of extra money. You can be generous with your energy when you’ve got extra energy to spend. It’s when you don’t have enough time for yourself, you don’t have enough energy for yourself, you don’t have enough money for yourself, you don’t have enough talent for yourself that God says, “This is a test. I’m watching you to see if you are generous. Will you be faithful, and will you trust me?”

Here are five principles in which God will test you and then bless you:

1. God gives to generous people.
God wants you to be generous, because he wants you to be like him. And obeying him will bring his blessing.

2. Obeying God’s vision will bring God’s provision.
If you do what God tells you to do, then God will bring along the resources you need at the right time. What he’s given you the vision for he will give you the provision for.

3. When you do all that God tells you to do, he does what you can’t do.
God often asks you to do the impossible to stretch your faith. When you give what little you have, God multiples it and makes up for it.

4. When you have a need, you sow a seed.
Whatever you need in your life, sow that as a seed, and it will come back to you.

5. There’s always a delay between sowing and reaping.
There is a season between planting and harvesting. What’s going on in the delay? It’s a test of your faith.

Will you be faithful to give when you have little? Will you keep on doing the right thing? Will you do what God wants you to do, no matter the cost? When you are faithful in this, you will be amazed at how God will provide for you and work in you.

Talk It Over

In what ways are you generous with your time, money, and talents?
How do you respond to giving something in which you have a shortage?
Where are you waiting to see God’s harvest? How do you see God working in you while you wait?

Will you follow Jesus today?

God proved his goodness through his Son, Jesus Christ. The Bible says, “For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Anyone who believes in him is not condemned, but anyone who does not believe is already condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God” (John 3:16–18 CSB).

Are you ready to trust God to fulfill his promise of eternal life? If so, start by praying this simple prayer: “Dear God, I believe Jesus Christ is your Son. I confess I have sinned, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus died to take away my sins and that you raised him to life. I want to trust Jesus as my Savior and follow him as Lord from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

La Cosas Pequeñas Cuentan

“El que es fiel en lo muy poco, es fiel también en lo mucho; y el que es injusto en lo muy poco, también es injusto en lo mucho”. Lucas 16:10 (LBLA)

Dios utiliza cosas insignificantes para probar tu integridad. Muchas veces pensamos que son las situaciones difíciles de la vida las que forman a un líder —no.  Las grandes crisis en la vida revelan el liderazgo, pero el liderazgo no se forma en las situaciones difíciles. Se desarrollan en las pequeñas cosas. Es ahí donde se muestra la integridad   —en las situaciones que nadie puede ver, en las situaciones que están ocultas. En lo pequeño, en lo que nadie ve, en situaciones de la vida que no son notables, en donde las decisiones no son tan espectaculares, donde haces las cosas correctas aunque nadie las va a ver.

Una gran fe requiere integridad y Dios prueba tu integridad en las cosas más insignificantes.

En Lucas 16:10 Jesús dice: “El que es fiel en lo muy poco, es fiel también en lo mucho; y el que es injusto en lo muy poco, también es injusto en lo mucho” (LBLA). Lo que Jesús te está diciendo es, que las bendiciones que recibes en público, están determinadas por tu integridad en privado.

Cada vez que un político está envuelto en un escándalo, escucharás a sus defensores decir: “realmente no interesa lo que haga con su vida privada”. Alguna vez ¿has escuchado esto?  “Sí realmente no interesa lo que haga con su vida privada. Si él no fuera un líder entonces esto no tuviera nada que ver”.

Pero; ¡sí esto tiene que ver con su posición de líder! Porque si un hombre miente a su esposa, él mentira a sus constituyentes. ¡Créeme! Si él miente a su mejor amiga, a quien le dijo: “Hasta que la muerte nos separe” ¡él también te engañará a ti votante! ¡Cuente con eso!

Mi bendición pública como líder viene a causa de la integridad en privado que nadie ve. Tu bendición pública como persona proviene de tu integridad en privado que nadie verá jamás. Dios usa esas pequeñas cosas para poner a prueba nuestra integridad.

It’s Too Soon to Quit

“That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!”

2 Corinthians 4:16-17 (NLT)

Do you know the difference between faithful people and unfaithful people? Unfaithful people give up at the first sign of difficulty. Faithful people keep on keeping on. Faithful people are determined, diligent, persistent. They don’t know how to quit! You know how a little acorn becomes an oak tree? An oak tree is just an acorn that refused to give up.

I don’t have it all figured out, but I do know one thing: You are never a failure until you quit, and it is always too soon to quit. God uses tough times to test our persistence.

When we started Saddleback, I thought we’d get a building quickly. We went 15 years without a building. In the first 13 years of this church, we used 79 different facilities. You know how many times I felt like giving up? Just every Monday morning! But I don’t know how to quit. And God said, “Rick, if I never give you a building, would you still serve me?” And I said, “Absolutely!”

Saddleback grew to more than 10,000 people before we built our first building. How would you like to set up and take down a church for 10,000 people every week? There’s not a lot of glory in that. It’s just hard work. God used those tough times to test our persistence.

If you’re going through tough times right now, then this verse is for you: “That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!” (2 Corinthians 4:16-17 NLT).

God is more interested in what you’re becoming than what’s happening to you. He often allows trials, troubles, tribulations, and problems in your life to teach you diligence, determination, and character. The problem you’re going through right now is a test of your faithfulness. Will you continue to serve God, even when life stinks?

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:9 NIV).

La Importancia de la Fe

“Los ojos del Señor recorren toda la tierra para fortalecer a los que tienen el corazón totalmente comprometido con él”.  2 Crónicas 16:9 a (NTV)  

La Biblia nos dice tres cosas acerca de la importancia de la fe.

Dios está buscando gente fiel.

Dios está físicamente, visiblemente, activamente, tomando la iniciativa de buscar personas fieles a las que pueda bendecir. 2 Crónicas 16:9 a dice, “Los ojos del Señor recorren toda la tierra para fortalecer a los que tienen el corazón totalmente comprometido con él” (NTV).

Este ha sido uno de los versículos de mi vida, y he aprendido que, si te haces útil, Dios te usará. Si te dispones a Su bendición, ¡te bendecirá sin parar! Dios está buscando personas fieles que Él pueda usar.

La gente fiel es difícil de encontrar.

La Biblia dice en Proverbios 20:6, “Muchos se dicen ser amigos fieles, pero ¿quién podrá encontrar uno realmente digno de confianza?” (NTV). Mucha gente habla, pero realmente no confía en Dios. Confía en sus tarjetas de crédito. Dicen que creen en Dios, pero realmente no creen en Él cuando se trata de sus finanzas, salud o trabajo.

Salmos 53:2-3 dice esto, “Dios mira desde los cielos a toda la raza humana; observa para ver si hay alguien realmente sabio, si alguien busca a Dios. Pero no, todos se desviaron; todos se corrompieron. No hay ni uno que haga lo bueno, ¡ni uno solo!” (NTV).

La fidelidad es la clave para la bendición y la victoria.

1 Juan 5:4-5 dice, “Pues todo hijo de Dios vence a este mundo de maldad, y logramos esa victoria por medio de nuestra fe. ¿Y quién puede ganar esta batalla contra el mundo? Únicamente los que creen que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios” (NTV).

La Biblia dice en Proverbios 28:20 a, “La persona digna de confianza obtendrá gran recompensa” (NTV). Yo quiero que tu vida tenga muchas bendiciones. Pero para que puedas tener esas bendiciones, vas a tener que aprender la fidelidad. Dios prueba tu fidelidad de diferentes maneras. ¿Le permitirás que te haga crecer en esta área para que puedas ser un hombre o una mujer de fe?

¿En qué maneras crees que Dios bendice nuestra fidelidad?¿A quiénes ves como gente fiel —personas que están llenas de fidelidad para el Señor? ¿Qué atributos tienen en común?Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más? Faithful People Serve Others

“God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.”

1 Peter 4:10 (NLT)

God uses your talents to test your unselfishness.

You have to decide in life who or what you’re going to live for. You’re either going to live a self-centered, miserly life or you’re going to live for something greater than yourself—the kingdom of God.

Faithful people don’t live for themselves. They realize that the talents God gave them are not for their own benefit. They’re meant to make the world a better place.

When God made you, he gave you all kinds of gifts, talents, abilities, and experiences. Those things make you you. And God made you you. There’s nobody like you in the whole world, and he wants you to be you for his glory.

God shaped you to serve him, and there’s only one way to do that: by serving other people.

You may have a talent for art and say that you do it “just because you love to do it.” That’s nice, but that’s not a good enough motive. God didn’t give you artistic ability just so you can love to do it. He gave it to you so you can use your art to help other people in some way.

Some of you have an ability to fix things. Some of you are good at math. Some of you are good at closing deals. Some of you are good at music. Some of you are good at organizing. And some of you are good at gardening.

God made us all different so that everything in the world gets done. If we all liked to do the same thing, then there would be a whole lot left undone.

The Bible says in 1 Peter 4:10, “God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another” (NLT).

You are the steward of your talents, and God is watching to see if you use what he gave you on earth to bless other people. If you use them effectively on earth, then he’s going to give you more responsibility in heaven—and those responsibilities will bring you joy forever!

Talk It Over

Your SHAPE is your spiritual gifts, heart, abilities, personality, and experiences that make you you. How has God shaped you in each of these areas?
Once you know your SHAPE, you can assess if you are being responsible with it. In what ways are you using your gifts, abilities, and experiences to serve others?
Why will it be a perfect joy to serve and have responsibilities in heaven?

El Pecado lleva a Distanciar las Relaciones

“Observé toda la opresión que sucede bajo el sol. Vi las lágrimas de los oprimidos, y no había nadie para consolarlos. Los opresores tienen mucho poder y sus víctimas son indefensas”. Eclesiastés 4:1 (NTV)  

El cuarto resultado del pecado es tomar distancia en las relaciones personales y también la discordia.

En un mundo perfecto donde no hay pecado, no tendrías ningún tipo de conflicto. Pero por ejemplo en un matrimonio donde se unen dos personas imperfectas, no se puede hacer una relación perfecta. Es imposible. Nunca vas a tener una relación perfecta, vas a tener problemas con todas tus relaciones.

Salomón habla al respecto en Eclesiastés. Él dice, “He observado la gente del mundo, ¿y saben que he descubierto? Ellos no son buenos los unos con los otros, la gente no se trata con cortesía. La gente se usa mutuamente. La gente se miente, abusan, se engañan unos a otros. La gente no toma las relaciones en serio, la gente tiene máscaras, se disfrazan, se maltratan y toman ventaja uno de los otros”.

¿Por qué hacemos esto? Porque nada funciona en este planeta por el pecado. Cuando no obedecemos la voluntad de Dios, esto nos causa daño.

Eclesiastés 4:1 dice, “Observé toda la opresión que sucede bajo el sol. Vi las lágrimas de los oprimidos, y no había nadie para consolarlos. Los opresores tienen mucho poder y sus víctimas son indefensas”.

Cuando Adán y Eva se rebelaron, no solamente se desconectaron de Dios, sino que se  desconectaron el uno del otro. Tú no puedes tener la intimidad que Dios quiere que tengas con tu pareja sin tener intimidad con Él primero. Cuando estás desconectado de Dios, no hay manera que vayas a disfrutar totalmente de la conexión que Él ha creado para la unión de esposo y esposa.

El quinto resultado del pecado es en el área financiera y dificultades vocacionales.

El pecado ha dañado el área de tus finanzas y tu carrera también. ¿Cómo se deterioró tu economía? Por ignorar los principios bíblicos financieros que Dios nos ha dado en su Palabra. Hay muchos principios financieros en las Escrituras. Todos los problemas económicos que tenemos y que el gobierno no ha podido solucionar se deben a la manera irresponsable de vivir —gastando el dinero que no hay y desobedeciendo los principios financieros que Dios nos ha dado.

Eclesiastés 5:13-14 “En esta vida he visto que guardar mucho dinero no es nada bueno, pues acaba por perjudicar a quien lo tiene. Además, todo ese dinero puede perderse en un mal negocio; así, quien antes fue rico luego no tiene nada que dejarle a sus hijos” (TLA).

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿Cómo el saber los resultados que el pecado tiene en tu vida hace que desees contrarrestarlos de manera diferente o con mayor eficacia?¿Cómo has visto que la gracia de Dios actúa en medio de las dificultades financieras y de la formación profesional?Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más? The Little Things Count

“Whoever is faithful in small matters will be faithful in large ones; whoever is dishonest in small matters will be dishonest in large ones.”

Luke 16:10 (GNT)

God uses little things to test your integrity. It’s not just the big things that count—even though that’s what the world wants you to focus on. But the Bible tells us that God is looking at the smallest details of our lives to see if we are faithful to him.

This is true in every area of life, including leadership. We often think it’s the big things in life that create a leader. No! The big crises in life reveal leadership, but leadership is not built in the big things of life. It’s built in the details of life. That’s where integrity shows up—in the stuff that nobody sees, in the stuff behind the scenes, in the small, unseen, unspectacular choices of life where you do the right thing, even though nobody’s ever going to see it.

Faithfulness requires integrity, and God tests your integrity in the little things.

Jesus said, “Whoever is faithful in small matters will be faithful in large ones; whoever is dishonest in small matters will be dishonest in large ones” (Luke 16:10 GNT). He’s saying your public blessing is determined by your private integrity.

Every time a politician has a scandal, you can always count on that person’s defenders to come out and say, “It really shouldn’t matter what their private life is like.” Have you ever heard that one? “It really shouldn’t matter what a person does in their private life. It doesn’t have anything to do with them as leaders.”

It has everything to do with them as leaders! Why? Because if a man lies to his wife, he’ll lie to his constituents. If a woman lies to her best friend, to whom she said, “Till death do us part,” she will cheat on you, voter! Count on it!

My public blessing as a leader comes because of private integrity that nobody ever sees. Your public blessing as a person comes from your private integrity that nobody will ever see. God uses little things to test our integrity. And faithfulness in the small things will lead to blessings in ways only God can provide.

El Pecado Causa Angustia Emocional

“Observé todo lo que ocurría bajo el sol, y a decir verdad, nada tiene sentido, es como perseguir el viento. Lo que está mal no puede corregirse; lo que se ha perdido no puede recuperarse”. Eclesiastés 1:14-15 (NTV)

El tercer resultado del pecado es el área de las emociones. El pecado causa angustia emocional y frustración.

Salomón escribe mucho acerca de ello en Eclesiastés: “Observé todo lo que ocurría bajo el sol, y a decir verdad, nada tiene sentido, es como perseguir el viento. Lo que está mal no puede corregirse; lo que se ha perdido no puede recuperarse” Eclesiastés 1:14-15 (NTV).

Quiere decir que, como ser humano, parece no tener sentido porque no podemos cambiar el pasado y tampoco controlar el futuro. Todo el mal que le hemos causado a otros ya no puede cambiarse y todo lo que nos han hecho mal, no podemos cambiarlo.

Y no podemos controlar el futuro. Muchas de las cosas importantes en la vida no se pueden controlar. El mundo no puede ser arreglado por medio del esfuerzo humano.

¿Podemos salir y hacer bien al mundo? Si ¿Debemos? Si ¿Debemos aliviar el dolor? Por supuesto.

Pero el mundo está irremediablemente descompuesto, servimos a otros para aliviar el dolor, para sanar a la gente, para ayudarles a seguir adelante. Pero no nos hagamos ilusiones, no estamos trayendo el Reino a la tierra, esto no es el cielo. Nuestro trabajo final es llevar a la gente a un lugar perfecto ¿Debemos intentar mejorar al mundo? Sí ¿Podemos esperar que sea perfecto? No, el daño es demasiado para poder ser reparado.

Porque ese daño es muy profundo, nos estresamos —porque las cosas no funcionan correctamente, no tenemos suficiente tiempo para hacer todo lo que queremos, las cosas se nos interponen en el camino. Hay retrasos y dificultades, callejones sin salida y por supuesto, frustración.

Alguna vez has planificado un gran evento y pensaste: “¡Esto va a ser fenomenal!”, luego cuando terminó dijiste: “¿Eso fue todo?”. Muchos pasan planeando su boda un año entero y esta se realiza en una hora.

El hecho es que tenemos la sorprendente habilidad de sobreestimar qué tan felices seremos con una persona, un evento o una propiedad. No solamente nos decepcionamos por eventos o con personas en nuestra vida, nos decepcionamos de nosotros mismos.

¿Por qué? Porque esto no es el cielo. Todo en el planeta está descompuesto. Nada trabaja a la perfección debido al pecado.

¿Qué o a quién has culpado por las relaciones rotas o las decepciones en tu vida?¿Qué cosa, evento o persona crees que te hará feliz? ¿Cómo crees que Dios quiere que cambies tu punto de vista?Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más? Let’s Get Real With Each Other

“Let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy. So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body.”

Ephesians 4:23-25 (NLT)

To change the defects in your life, you’ve got to have people in your life who tell you the truth. You’re not going to get well on your own. You’re going to need support. You’re going to need a small group.

Change requires honest community.

The things in your life you’re never going to be able to change on your own are typically the things that are the most difficult in your life. They’re also often the things you don’t want anybody else to know about.

You’re never going to get over those things until you share them with someone. You don’t have to tell everybody. You just need to find at least one person who will trust you and whom you trust—someone who will be confidential, love you unconditionally, not be judgmental, and pray for you. You’ll find that revealing your feeling is the beginning of healing.

This does not mean a small group where you get together on a superficial level and everyone is “fine” or “doing great.” You have to get to the level of maturity in your small group where you can say, “I had a tough week. Life is really hard right now. Here’s what happened.”

Ephesians 4:25 says, “So stop telling lies. Let us tell our neighbors the truth, for we are all parts of the same body” (NLT).

If you’re a believer, you’re also a belonger. You belong in God’s family, and every other believer belongs to you. You cannot become until you belong. You can’t become what God wants you to be until you belong in a group that’s going to have gut-level, honest community.

So put away falsehood. Talk to your neighbor. Tell your friend the truth, because we belong to each other.

If you are serious about changing the deepest hang-ups and defects in your life, you’re going to have to face the fear of being honest. You’ve got to stop faking it. You’ve got to be real.

How would you describe your small group’s level of transparency? Are you “real” with each other?
What has been the result of pretending like you have it all together? How do you feel?
Think of how many times you tell people in one day, “I’m fine.” In what relationships do you need to be more honest about yourself and what you are struggling with?

El Pecado lo ha Dañado Todo

“Sabemos que hasta hoy toda la creación se queja de dolor…”. Romanos 8:22a (PDT)

Nada funciona perfectamente. Porque la raza humana en su totalidad ha tomado malas decisiones…

Todo está roto, y nada en este planeta funciona perfectamente. El pecado dañó todo.

El pecado ha arruinado todo. El pecado ha destruido todo. El pecado ha corrompido y manchado todo. El pecado ha herido todo —cada relación, idea, sueño y cuerpo humano. Todo ha sido tocado por este daño.

En el libro de Eclesiastés, Salomón describe seis dimensiones de tu vida que el pecado ha dañado. En los próximos días estaremos viendo estas seis dimensiones.

El primer resultado son desastres naturales y deformidades.

Ya no estamos viviendo en el EDÉN. Como John Milton escribió en su famoso poema, el paraíso está perdido. Vivimos en un planeta quebrado. Y, como resultado, tenemos huracanes, tifones, clima loco, terremotos, sequías e inundaciones.

Me asombra que las compañías de seguros llamen a esto “actos de Dios” pero no llamen al nacimiento de un niño un acto de Dios. En otras palabras, un acto de Dios es solo algo negativo que ocurre. Dios no quiere que estas cosas sucedan en el mundo. El mundo se quebró cuando el pecado dañó todo.

La Biblia dice en Romanos 8:20, “Todo el mundo está confundido” (TLA). Todo en este planeta perdió su propósito original. Todo en este planeta fue dañado, inclusive tu ADN, el ADN de tus padres y el ADN de los padres de tus padres. ¿Te diste cuenta de que tu cuerpo no funciona correctamente? Si los cuerpos de cada persona funcionaran correctamente, no habría necesidad de doctores.

El segundo resultado es el deterioro físico y la muerte.

No había muerte en el planeta hasta que el pecado entró en el mundo. Eclesiastés 8:8 dice: “Nadie tiene poder sobre el viento para retenerlo; ni hay quien tenga poder sobre el día de su muerte” (NVI). Sabemos que la muerte es inevitable, pero de seguro tratamos de detenerla. Vamos muy lejos tratando de posponer el deterioro también. Pero hay buenas noticias: Dios no quiere que vivas por siempre en este planeta. Dios quiere que vivas por siempre en un lugar perfecto, no en un planeta que ha sido dañado por el pecado.

1 Corintios 15:42-43 dice: “Cuando morimos, nuestros cuerpos terrenales son plantados en la tierra, pero serán resucitados para que vivan por siempre. Nuestros cuerpos son enterrados en deshonra, pero serán resucitados en gloria. Son enterrados en debilidad, pero serán resucitados en fuerza” (NTV).

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿Por qué es difícil para nosotros, aún los creyentes, aceptar la idea del deterioro de nuestros cuerpos y la muerte?¿Cuál te parece que debería ser la actitud de los cristianos frente al medio ambiente?Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más?
