The Work That Makes You Happiest Is for God’s Kingdom

“God has given each of you some special abilities; be sure to use them to help each other, passing on to others God’s many kinds of blessings.”

1 Peter 4:10 (TLB)

Meaning matters more than money. When you get to heaven, God isn’t going to ask you, “How much money did you make?” He’s going to ask, “Did you make your life count? Did you express the talents that I gave you?”

The Bible says in 1 Peter 4:10, “God has given each of you some special abilities; be sure to use them to help each other, passing on to others God’s many kinds of blessings” (TLB).

That means the best work for you is the work that best expresses your talent. God wired every one of us to do something different. The reason we all like to do different things is so that everything gets done.

We were made to make our lives count. People are happiest—you are happiest—when you’re using the talents God gave you for something greater than yourself. That’s what gives your life meaning.

The greatest cause in the world is the Kingdom of God. It is the church. The whole reason the world exists is so God could build a family that one day will live with him forever. There is nothing more meaningful and purposeful than giving your life to the Kingdom of God.

When Jesus was 12 years old, he already knew what business he was in. He said, “Did you not know that I must be about my Father’s business?” (Luke 2:49 NKJV). Then, at the end of his life, he told the Father, “I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do” (John 17:4 NIV). Those are the bookends of a life well lived.

What is your business—what is the work God gave you to do? And how is your business going? Those are the fundamental questions you need to be asking about your life.

Don’t waste your life. Ask God to show you the work he wants you to do, and then use your gifts to make the rest of your life the best of your life.

Satanás le Teme a la Búsqueda de la Pureza

“Defiendan su posición, poniéndose el cinturón de la verdad y la coraza de la justicia de Dios”. Efesios 6:14 (NTV)

No tenemos que hacer nada malo para que Satanás nos ataque. Eso es lo que él hace. Así es él. La Biblia lo llama “el acusador de nuestros hermanos y hermanas” [Apocalipsis 12:10]. Y él no quiere nada más que atacar a quienes aman a Jesús.

Sin embargo, nuestros estilos de vida impuros abren la puerta de nuestro corazón para sus ataques. Satanás sabe que si puede meter su pie en la puerta de nuestros corazones a través de la impureza, ese será nuestro fin. Va a hacernos tropezar con todo tipo de tentaciones, desde la pornografía hasta con las películas, libros, canciones —cualquier cosa que nos haga ineficaces como influyentes del Reino.

Es por esto que la coraza de justicia que nos habla Pablo, es tan importante mientras luchamos en contra de cualquier ataque de Satanás. En Efesios 6:14, Pablo exhorta a los creyentes, “¡Manténganse alerta! Que la verdad y la justicia de Dios los vistan y protejan como una armadura” (TLA).

Un soldado romano va a la guerra y siempre se coloca la coraza para proteger su corazón. Ningún soldado se atrevería a ir a la batalla sin protegerse el corazón.

Tampoco debemos hacerlo nosotros. Pablo nos dice que la justicia, o pureza de motivos, es nuestra coraza. Cuando le pedimos a Dios que nos dé un corazón puro y motivos puros, nos estamos poniendo la coraza de justicia.

Satanás tiene temor de las personas con corazón puro —no de la persona perfecta sino de la persona que quiere hacer lo que es correcto y mantener sus motivos puros. Las personas que buscan la pureza no le tienen miedo a satanás; satanás les teme a ellos.

La pureza no significa perfección. Ninguno de nosotros encajamos en esa descripción. Dios espera pureza de nuestras motivaciones, no perfección de nuestras acciones. Esto significa que aunque haces algo incorrecto, quieres hacer las cosas bien. No puedes tener la bendición de Dios en tu familia, tus negocios, o cualquier otra área de tu vida hasta que busques seriamente esa clase de pureza.

Por ejemplo, abrirle tu corazón a la codicia, te conducirá hacia un camino de destrucción. Si satanás puede lograr que quieras tener más, él va a lograr que hagas trampa en tus impuestos y te conseguirá un negocio turbio. Deja la puerta entre abierta de tu corazón para que crezca el orgullo, y así te seguirán los aplausos y elogios en lugar de la aprobación de Dios.

Esto no nos lleva a ningún lugar. Sin un corazón puro, eres una presa fácil para satanás. No tienes que ser fuerte ante los ataques de satanás, sino que necesitas protegerte con la armadura de justicia de Dios.

Start Believing Your Beliefs

“At all times carry faith as a shield; for with it you will be able to put out all the burning arrows shot by the Evil One.”

Ephesians 6:16 (GNT)

As a follower of Jesus, you have fiery darts coming at you all the time. Satan implants the following thoughts into your mind:

Doubt. You start asking yourself, “Did God really say that? Can I really trust God? Isn’t that just your interpretation?”

Discouragement. Satan tells you, “You’re never going to get any better. Your life won’t change. Don’t even try.”

Delay. Something you want to happen hasn’t happened by now, so you ask yourself, “Why is this taking so long?”

Difficulty. You think, “Why is this so hard? Why is it so hard to make my marriage work? Why is it so hard to get a job?”

Depression. You tell yourself, “It’s not worth it.” You don’t even feel like making an effort.

All these darts come on a regular basis. They create uncertainty in your life. In times of great uncertainty—like when you’re out of work or going through a major family transition—these fiery darts will fly at you even faster.

You’ve got to be ready for them!

The Bible says, “At all times carry faith as a shield; for with it you will be able to put out all the burning arrows shot by the Evil One” (Ephesians 6:16 GNT).

How do you handle these darts? Put on the shield of faith. It’s the only protection you have against doubt, discouragement, delay, difficulty, and depression. Trust God, no matter what you see, hear, or feel about the world around you. You need the certainty of God when you face the uncertainty of Satan’s fiery darts.

You need to doubt your doubts and believe your beliefs. Most people do just the opposite. They doubt their beliefs and believe their doubts. That’s foolish! Believe what God tells you in his Word.

You need that kind of certainty in difficult days. With the shield of faith, you have certainty that God’s promises are true, even when they don’t appear to be true in your life.

Don’t ever take off the shield of faith. Satan will never stop throwing his fiery darts at you. Stay on your guard. Trust God and his Word, no matter what’s going on in your life.

Vive con Integridad

“Manténganse firmes, pónganse el cinturón de la verdad”. Efesios 6:14a (PDT)

La integridad importa. La Biblia dice que estamos en guerra “contra gobernantes, contra autoridades, contra poderes de este mundo oscuro”. Y no podemos combatir esas fuerzas espirituales que amenazan con destruir nuestras vidas si no estamos viviendo con integridad.

Esencialmente, estamos comprometidos a tomar la verdad de la Palabra de Dios y aplicarla a nuestra vida, por ejemplo a nuestra vida moral, financiera, relacional y sexual.

Esta es la razón por la que Pablo nos dice que necesitamos ponernos el cinturón de la verdad antes de salir a las batallas espirituales que nos rodean. Él dice: “Manténganse firmes, pónganse el cinturón de la verdad” Efesios 6:14a (PDT).

El cinturón de la verdad sostiene todo. Sin la verdad, tu vida se cae a pedazos, y te invade la oscuridad espiritual.

Nos ponemos el cinturón de la verdad al vivir en integridad. Integridad viene de la palabra “integer” que significa “unidad de uno”. Tu vida de integridad no son las porciones de la torta. Es ser la torta completa.

Para vivir una vida de integridad, no solo es conocer la verdad; vívela. Como tu cinturón, la integridad te da estabilidad. Te mantiene unido en medio de tiempos difíciles. Te da la fortaleza tan necesaria.

Por supuesto, vivir en integridad no significa perfección. No significa hacer siempre lo que es correcto. Si la perfección fuera la medida para la integridad, nadie la alcanzaría. Todos tropezamos de vez en cuando.

Para vivir en integridad, deja que las personas vean en el exterior lo que sucede en el interior. Significa que lo que ves es lo que hay.

La hipocresía es el gran enemigo de la integridad. Practicamos la hipocresía cuando conocemos la verdad y no la ponemos en práctica. Es cuando lo que decimos no es lo mismo que lo que hacemos.

Y esto es peligroso —muy peligroso. La falta de integridad en algún área de tu vida te dejará vulnerable a las flechas de Satanás. De hecho, en el momento en que comienzas a segmentar tu vida en diferentes porciones —tu vida de iglesia, tu vida de familia, tu vida sexual, etc.— has perdido tu integridad. No estás viviendo lo mismo en cada área de tu vida.

¿La vida te resulta abrumadora? ¿Sientes que la oscuridad está ganando la batalla en tu vida? Lo hará siempre que vivas una doble vida. Chequea tu integridad. Haz lo que la Palabra de Dios enseña en cada área de tu vida, no solo cuando y donde es más conveniente. No tienes esperanza sin este tipo de integridad.

The Gospel Helps You Stand Your Ground

“On your feet wear the Good News of peace to help you stand strong.”

Ephesians 6:15 (NCV)

Conflict makes you an easy target for Satan’s attacks. It doesn’t matter if your conflict is with God, other people, or even yourself—it will open up every area of your life to Satan’s attacks.

You don’t want that. If you’re fighting yourself, others, or God, you can’t fight against what Satan is doing in the world. You can’t fight a multi-front war effectively. You were never meant to do so. 

All levels of conflict leave your flailing for support and searching for a firm footing, as if you’re being sucked into quicksand.

That’s why Paul urges believers, “On your feet wear the Good News of peace to help you stand strong” (Ephesians 6:15 NCV).

Roman soldiers had hobnails on the bottom of their shoes. These little nails helped them get a better grip with their shoes, like cleats for football players. Without them, soldiers would slip and slide in battle. They wouldn’t be able to hold their ground.

Without putting on the peace that comes from the Good News, you too will slip and slide your way through life.

Paul is writing about three different aspects of peace: with yourself, with others, and with God. It’s called reconciliation, and you need it in all areas of your life. If you wake up each morning at peace with yourself, God, and others, then you’ll find yourself on strong footing. You’ll be able to stand strong against Satan’s attacks.

Satan tries to attack your peace through worry. We can worry about anything—our future, our finances, our relationships, what others think of us. When we worry, it means some area of relational peace is out of sync. In fact, most of the time it means we’re out of sync in each of those areas. 

And it means you’re shoeless. You’re not letting the peace that comes from knowing God’s Word take control.

The Bible says, “Those who love your instructions have great peace and do not stumble” (Psalm 119:165 NLT). In other words, the more you love and obey the Bible, the less you’re offended by what others say. The more you love God’s Word, the less you’re offended by what happens to you and the less your walk with God will be disturbed.

Choose to believe what God’s Word says about you, about others, and, most importantly, about God so you’ll have the peace that will help you hold your ground.

Satanás es Real

“Pues no luchamos contra enemigos de carne y hueso, sino contra gobernadores malignos y autoridades del mundo invisible, contra fuerzas poderosas de este mundo tenebroso y contra espíritus malignos de los lugares celestiales”. Efesios 6:12 (NTV)

Tienes un enemigo —y no es quien tú crees. No es una persona contra la que tienes que competir en tu trabajo; tampoco es ese vecino complicado; mucho menos tu ex o el grupo de tu comunidad que hace cosas en contra de la Biblia y que te afecta.

Tu enemigo no es de carne y hueso: “Pues no luchamos contra enemigos de carne y hueso, sino contra gobernadores malignos y autoridades del mundo invisible, contra fuerzas poderosas de este mundo tenebroso y contra espíritus malignos de los lugares celestiales” Efesios 6:12 (NTV).

Tu batalla es contra Satanás.

Una de las razones por las que muchas veces estamos desanimados y derrotados es porque no comprendemos contra quien es nuestra batalla. No entendemos quien es nuestro verdadero enemigo. Culpamos a la economía, un partido político, un segmento de la población o la persona con quien odiamos cruzarnos en la calle.

Culpamos a todos menos a quien la Biblia llama ladrón y mentiroso, la persona que está dispuesta a destruir a quienes aman y siguen a Jesús.

Para obtener victoria en tu vida sobre todo aquello que te arrastra debes comenzar a atacar al enemigo correcto.

Cuando lo hagas, ten en mente estas verdades acerca de tu verdadero enemigo, Satanás.

Tú no eres rival para Satanás: es como intentar destruir un barco de guerra con un caucho. Apartado de Jesús no tienes esperanza de poder derrotar la influencia de Satanás en tu vida.Todos pueden ser usados por Satanás: El pondrá ideas en las mentes de cristianos y no cristianos. En algún momento todos podemos ser peones en el juego de Satanás. Por eso, protégete usando la armadura de Dios (mira Efesios 6:10-17).No todo lo espiritual es bueno: Así como hay luz espiritual, también hay tinieblas espirituales. No creas la mentira que dice: todos los caminos llevan a Dios. “Jesús le dijo: Yo soy el camino, y la verdad, y la vida; nadie viene al Padre, sino por mí” (Juan 14:6).Satanás no pelea limpio: Él no puede derribarte, por eso, pone desánimo e ideas depresivas en tu mente. Tienes que atraparlo en el acto, hazle saber que tú sabes de quien son esas ideas y pídele ayuda al Señor Jesús.

Satanás es real. Es el enemigo que ha perturbado tu vida. Pero hay buenas noticias: Él no tiene oportunidad contra Jesús.

Satan Fears the Pursuit of Purity

“Stand, therefore, with truth like a belt around your waist, righteousness like armor on your chest.”

Ephesians 6:14 (HCSB)

We don’t have to do anything wrong for Satan to attack us. It’s what he does. It’s who he is. The Bible calls him “the accuser of our brothers and sisters” (Revelation 12:10 NLT). And he wants nothing more than to attack those who love Jesus.

Yet often, our own impure lifestyles make us vulnerable to Satan’s attacks. He knows that if he can slip his foot into the door of our hearts through impurity, we’re goners. He’ll trip us up with all sorts of temptations, from pornography to movies to books to advertising—whatever it takes to make us ineffective as representatives of God’s kingdom.

That’s why Paul’s breastplate of righteousness is so important as we battle against whatever Satan throws at us. In Ephesians 6:14, Paul urges believers to stand, “with truth like a belt around your waist, righteousness like armor on your chest” (HCSB).

A Roman soldier going to war would always put on a breastplate to protect his heart. No soldier would dare go to battle without this piece of armor.

Neither should we. Paul tells us that righteousness, or purity of motives, is our breastplate. When we ask God to give us a pure heart and pure motives, we’re putting on that breastplate of righteousness.

Satan fears the person with a pure heart—not the perfect person, but the person who wants to do the right thing and keeps their motives pure. People who pursue purity don’t have to be afraid of him. Satan is afraid of them!

Purity doesn’t mean perfection, though. None of us fit that description. God expects purity of motives, not perfection of action. It means when you do something wrong, you want to make it right. You can’t have God’s blessing on your family, your business, or any other area of your life unless you seriously pursue that kind of purity.

For example, open up your heart to greed, and Satan can get you to cheat on your taxes or make a shady business deal. Leave the door to your heart ajar through pride, and you’ll chase the applause and praise of others rather than the approval of God.

That leads nowhere. Without a pure heart, you’re a pushover for Satan. You don’t have to be strong to stand against Satan’s attacks, but you do need to protect yourself with God’s armor of righteousness.

Naciste para Ganar esta Batalla

“El Espíritu que vive en ustedes es más poderoso que el espíritu que vive en el mundo”. 1 Juan 4:4b (NTV)

Naciste en una batalla. Tú no pediste eso. Pero antes de que nacieras y mucho después de tu muerte, una batalla cósmica se está llevando a cabo en todo el universo. No puedes escapar de la batalla entre Dios y Satanás, el bien y el mal —incluso si no sabías que existe.

Sin embargo, es importante saber que Dios y Satanás no son enemigos comparables. Dios es muy superior en todos los sentidos. Un día Dios eliminará completamente a Satanás. Pero hasta entonces, Él nos permite escoger de lado de quién estamos.

A menudo las personas son peones en esta batalla cósmica. Satanás no puede hacerle daño a Dios. ¿Qué haces cuando no puedes herir a alguien? Haces daño a sus hijos. Así que Satanás va tras de ti.

La mala noticia es que naciste para una batalla. Pero hay buenas noticias. Naciste para ganar la batalla. La Biblia dice: “El Espíritu que vive en ustedes es más poderoso que el espíritu que vive en el mundo” 1 Juan 4:4b (NTV).

Satanás no tiene miedo de ti. Tiene miedo del que está en ti —Dios.

Con el Espíritu Santo en ti, no tienes porque temer a Satanás. Estás en el lado ganador de esta guerra. Vive como tal.

Does the Outside Match What’s Inside?

“So stand ready, with truth as a belt tight around your waist.”

Ephesians 6:14 (GNT)

Integrity matters. The Bible says we’re in a war “against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world” (Ephesians 6:12 NIV). And we can’t battle those spiritual forces that threaten to derail our lives if we’re not living with integrity.

Essentially, we’re committed to taking the truth of God’s Word and applying it to all areas of our lives, including our moral, financial, and relational lives.

It’s why Paul tells us we need to put on the belt of truth before we go into the spiritual battles that are all around us. He says, “So stand ready, with truth as a belt tight around your waist” (Ephesians 6:14 GNT).

The belt of truth holds up everything. Without truth, your life will fall apart, and spiritual darkness will take over.

We put on our belt of truth by living with integrity. Integrity comes from the word “integer,” which means “unit of one.” Your life of integrity isn’t the pieces of the pie. It’s being the whole pie.

To live a life of integrity, you don’t just know the truth. You live it out. Like your belt, integrity gives you stability. It holds you together through tough times. It gives you strength.

Of course, living with integrity doesn’t mean always doing what’s right. If perfection were the standard for integrity, no one would have it. We all stumble at times.

To live with integrity, let people see on the outside what’s going on inside. It means what you see is what you get.

Hypocrisy is the great enemy of integrity. We practice hypocrisy when we know the truth and don’t do it. It’s when what we say isn’t the same as what we do.

And it’s dangerous. A lack of integrity in any area of your life will leave you vulnerable to Satan’s attacks. In fact, the moment you start segmenting your life into different pieces—your church life, family life, work life, etc.—you’ve lost your integrity. You’re not living the same in all areas of your life.

Does life seem overwhelming? Do you feel like darkness is winning the battle in your life? It always will if you’re living a double life.

Check your integrity. Put on the belt of truth so you can do what God’s Word teaches in all areas of your life, not just where and when it is most convenient.

Your sins separate you from God. And it is only God’s grace that allows you back into a right relationship with him.

The Bible says, “It is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).

If you’re ready to make peace with your Creator, then pray this prayer:

“Dear Jesus, I don’t want my sin to separate me from you any longer. You have promised that if I believe in you, everything I’ve ever done wrong will be forgiven, I will learn the purpose of my life, and you will accept me into your eternal home in heaven one day.

“I confess my sin, and I believe you are my Savior. You have promised that if I confess my sin and trust you, I will be saved. I believe you when you say salvation comes by grace, through faith, and not by anything I do. I receive you into my life as my Lord. Today, I’m turning over every part of my life to your management.

“I want to live the way you created me to live and use the rest of my life to serve you instead of serving myself. I commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Cambia Algo, Cambia Tú

“Examinemos y evaluemos nuestra conducta y regresemos al SEÑOR”. Lamentaciones 3:40 (PDT)

No puedes cambiar todo. Pero sí puedes cambiar tú.

Cuando sientes que tu vida se está cayendo a pedazos, sabiendo lo que puedes cambiar —y lo que no puedes cambiar— puede hacer toda la diferencia.

No puedes cambiar tu pasado. No puedes cambiar a tus padres. No puedes cambiar los dones y talentos que Dios te ha o no te ha dado. No puedes cambiar una incapacidad que tienes. No puedes resucitar a alguien que amaste y haya muerto.

Deberías aceptar todas esas cosas. Empezarás a encontrar la paz en medio de los problemas cuando aceptes lo que no puedes cambiar. De lo contrario, te vas a hacer miserable a ti mismo y a la gente que amas.

Hay mucho que no puedes cambiar, pero hay algo importante que sí puedes cambiar: A ti mismo.

Cuando el mundo de Jeremías se caía a pedazos, él escribió en Lamentaciones 3:40 “Examinemos y evaluemos nuestra conducta y regresemos al Señor” (PDT).

¿Qué está pasando en tu vida que no se alinea con lo que Dios quiere? Dependiendo de cómo reaccionamos, las crisis pueden ayudarnos a medida que aprendemos a enfocar nuestros ojos en lo que importa: Jesús.

Reordenar tu vida en el camino de Dios va a tomar un poco de auto-evaluación personal. Tendrás que hacer un inventario de todas las áreas de tu vida. Tendrás que echar un vistazo a tu relación con Dios, tu cónyuge, tus hijos, y tus compañeros de trabajo. Tendrás que mirar heridas, hábitos y obsesiones que te pueden estar haciendo daño. Nada puede estar fuera de los límites.

No es fácil. Puede causar problemas. Siempre es difícil dejar el pecado, incluso cuando nos está destruyendo.

Pero no puedes sanarte de otro modo. La sanidad sin arrepentimiento no puede durar. Cuando tu mundo se está cayendo a pedazos, podrás tener la tentación de quejarte de cada área de tu vida.

Eso es una pérdida de tiempo. No puedes cambiar todo —pero puedes cambiarte a ti mismo.

Y cuando el mundo se cae a pedazos, eso puede significar todo.

Reflexiona sobre esto:

¿Qué área de tu vida puedes cambiar de inmediato, que tendrá un impacto positivo sobre ti y los demás?¿Quién puede ayudarte a hacerte las preguntas difíciles acerca de tus prioridades, relaciones, y pecados secretos mientras tomas un inventario espiritual de tu vida?Si todavía no has confiado en Jesús y no te has comprometido a seguirlo, ¿por qué esperar más?
