Even in the Worst Times, God Is Good

“Protect me, God, because I trust in you. I said to the Lord, ‘You are my Lord. Every good thing I have comes from you.'”

Psalm 16:1-2 (NCV)

Not everything that happens in your life is good. But God is good—and he is pouring his goodness into your life.

Circumstances may be very difficult in your life right now, but God can take the bad and bring good out of it. Even in the worst times, you can trust this: God has a good purpose, a good plan, and a good reason.

Psalm 16:1-2 says, “Protect me, God, because I trust in you. I said to the Lord, ‘You are my Lord. Every good thing I have comes from you’” (NCV).

No matter where you are in life right now, you could use a reminder of God’s goodness. And sometimes the best way to remember something is to talk with God about it through prayer.

Would you stop now to pray and talk to God about his goodness? Say something like this:

“God, you are so good. I could never deserve your goodness. I’m sorry that I have often forgotten or doubted your goodness. Forgive me for my ungratefulness and prideful self-centeredness. I am nothing without you. Like King David in the Bible, I would despair if I didn’t know your goodness. Open my eyes to see how good you really are and let your goodness transform my life.

“God, my soul needs restoring. I don’t always think right. I don’t always choose right. I don’t always feel right. I need you to restore my damaged soul, my mind, my will, and my emotions. As I continue learning about your goodness, I trust that my sins have been forgiven because I’ve come to you and said I need a Savior. I’m going to release the people who have hurt me and pray a prayer of blessing over them. I’m going to team up with you and ask you to help me with the load I’m carrying. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

The greatest example of God’s goodness is Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. You won’t fully experience his goodness until you experience his salvation. If you don’t know Jesus as Savior, you can pray this right now:

“Jesus Christ, I want to get to know you. I want to learn to love you and trust you. Please forgive me for my sin. I ask you to accept me into your family, not because I deserve it but because, on the cross, you paid for all of my sins. Thank you for your gift of salvation. I receive it and ask for your help to follow you faithfully as my Lord. I pray this in your name. Amen.”

¡No Temas! Recuerda las Promesas de Dios

“¡Dichosa tú que has creído, porque lo que el Señor te ha dicho se cumplirá!”.   Lucas 1:45 (NVI)

Si yo necesitara una cirugía mayor y estuviera preocupado si la puedo pagar, tomaría mi póliza de seguro y vería si el procedimiento estará cubierto. Si la compañía de seguros se había comprometido a pagar por ello, entonces yo no estaría ansioso o preocupado.

Demasiadas personas en nuestro mundo de hoy están temerosos, ansiosos y preocupados, porque ellos no saben lo que está en el manual de la póliza de Dios, la Biblia. En este libro, existen más de 7,000 promesas de Dios para ti, acerca de tu salud, tus relaciones, tu carrera, tu pasado, presente y futuro, y sobre el perdón del pecado y la vida eterna. Pero si no conoces esas promesas, ¡no puedes reclamarlas! Cuando pasas por la vida sin saber lo que Dios te ha prometido en su Palabra, te llenarás de ansiedad.

Para superar el miedo, debes saber, confiar y recordar lo que Dios ha prometido hacer en tu vida. Eso es lo que le dio confianza a María.

Elizabeth se dio cuenta de esto. Cuando María vino a visitarla, le dijo a María: “¡Dichosa tú que has creído, porque  lo que el Señor te ha dicho se cumplirá” Lucas 1:45 (NVI). María creía que Dios cumpliría sus promesas. Eso fue lo que le dio a esta joven una enorme confianza en medio de esta increíble situación de temor. Ella creía que Dios cumpliría su Palabra.

La promesa más importante que Dios hizo en la Biblia es que, cuando mueras, vas a ir al cielo si confías en Su único Hijo que envió en Navidad. Esa se llama la promesa de la vida eterna. Está en Juan 3:16, el versículo más famoso de la Biblia: “Porque tanto amó Dios al mundo que dio a su Hijo unigénito, para que todo el que cree en él no se pierda, sino que tenga vida eterna” (NVI).

Pero Jesús no solo vino a la tierra para perdonar tus pecados. También vino a eliminar tus miedos aquí y ahora. Hebreos 2:15 dice que Jesús tomó a la humanidad para poder “y librar a todos los que por temor a la muerte estaban sometidos a esclavitud durante toda la vida” (NVI).

Eso me recuerda la línea de ese famoso villancico “Oh pequeño pueblo de Belén”: “Las esperanzas y temores de todos los años se cumplen en ti esta noche”.

Toda esperanza restaurada. Todo miedo derrotado. Esta es la mayor promesa que puedes reclamar esta Navidad.

What Do You Have That God Hasn’t Given You?

“What do you have that God hasn’t given you? And if all you have is from God, why act as though you are so great, and as though you have accomplished something on your own?”

1 Corinthians 4:7 (TLB)

We’ve talked about how trusting in God’s goodness helps you face life’s struggles.

But what happens when you start thinking you earned the good things in your life, forgetting goodness comes from God?

In Luke 12, Jesus tells the story of a rich man who was very successful but didn’t give God any of the credit for his prosperity. And so God tells the rich man, “You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?” Jesus finishes the story by saying, “Yes, a person is a fool to store up earthly wealth but not have a rich relationship with God” (Luke 12:20-21 NLT).

That’s a sober warning!

Prideful ingratitude is the sin that got Satan kicked out of heaven, and it’s the source of all sins. When you stop being grateful to God, you get into trouble: “Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused” (Romans 1:21 NLT).

The problem with some self-made people is that they end up worshipping themselves. They may think, “Wait a minute; I built this business with my bare hands.” But who gave you your hands? They say, “I thought up the business plan totally by myself.” But who gave you your mind? They claim, “I worked for where I am today by the sweat of my brow.” But who gave you the ability to work so hard?

The Bible asks it this way: “What do you have that God hasn’t given you? And if all you have is from God, why act as though you are so great, and as though you have accomplished something on your own?” (1 Corinthians 4:7 TLB).

Everything you have in life—the ability to see, hear, and eat, your freedom and thoughts—you owe to God. You would not take your next breath if it weren’t for the goodness of God.

Ingratitude is one of the roots of atheism too; when you’re ungrateful, you start dismissing or even denying what God has done. And that’s just a short step from denying that God even exists.

Yet the truth is you can see the presence of God everywhere you look: “For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God” (Romans 1:20 NLT).

If you start to doubt God’s goodness, just take a step outside your door and look around. You can see God’s goodness throughout his creation!

El Plan de Dios es Bueno, Pero no Siempre es Conveniente

“También José, que era descendiente del rey David, subió de Nazaret, ciudad de Galilea, a Judea. Fue a Belén, la Ciudad de David, para inscribirse junto con María su esposa. Ella se encontraba encinta y mientras estaban allí, se le cumplió el tiempo”. Lucas 2:4-6 (NVI)

El plan de Dios para tu vida es bueno. Es para tu beneficio. Es un plan de amor. Pero no significa que sea sin dolor y no significa que siempre será conveniente.

Esto fue particularmente cierto con el nacimiento de Jesús. Las circunstancias no fueron convenientes para María y José. La Biblia nos dice: “Por aquellos días, Augusto César decretó que se levantara un censo en todo el Imperio Romano… También José, que era descendiente del rey David, subió de Nazaret, ciudad de Galilea, a Judea. Fue a Belén, la Ciudad de David, para inscribirse junto con María su esposa. Ella se encontraba encinta y mientras estaban allí, se le cumplió el tiempo” Lucas 2:1, 4-6 (NVI).

En medio de tratar de lidiar con ser futuros padres del Hijo de Dios, María y José escuchan que César ha emitido un censo, y todos tienen que regresar a su pueblo ancestral.

Pongamos esto en perspectiva: si mañana el gobierno estableciera una regla como esa, y cada persona tuviera que regresar a la ciudad de la que eran, al mismo tiempo, sería un caos. Cada avión, tren y automóvil se reservaría. Cada carretera estaría llena. Sería increíblemente frustrante y notablemente inconveniente.

Ahora intenta navegar en ese caos con nueve meses de embarazo. Imagina lo inconveniente que ha de ser viajar en burro a otra ciudad cuando estás lista para dar a luz en cualquier momento. Luego, cuando María llega a Belén, tiene que tener a su propio bebé sin la ayuda de su mamá o una partera, en un establo, rodeada de un montón de animales.

Ninguna de las circunstancias alrededor del nacimiento de Jesús fue conveniente. Pero eran parte del plan de Dios. Se había predicho por mucho tiempo que Jesús nacería en Belén. Los inconvenientes para llevarlos allí eran parte de un plan más grande para José y María, uno que era mejor de lo que podrían haber soñado.

José y María confiaron en Dios a través de su incomodidad y miedo. Tú también puedes confiar en que muchas de las cosas que Dios hace en tu vida son porque Él sabe más. Él puede usar algunos inconvenientes para llevarte a donde necesitas estar, pero siempre está trabajando para tu bien y resolviendo sus propósitos en tu vida.

How to Trust God’s Goodness When Life Gets Tough

“The Lord is always good. He is always loving and kind, and his faithfulness goes on and on to each succeeding generation.”

Psalm 100:5 (TLB)

If you grew up in a Christian home, you may have learned this childhood prayer: “God is great. God is good. Let us thank him for our food. Amen.” While simplistic, that prayer covers one key characteristic of God: his goodness.

Is it really true that God is good all the time? Absolutely! But many people don’t live like they believe it. It can be hard to believe in God’s goodness for many reasons, including when you’re in pain. When you’re in conflict, you forget about it. When you’re depressed, you think his goodness is for everyone except you. And when you’re worried or stressed out, you can’t seem to find—much less think about—God’s goodness, even when it’s right in front of you.

So how can you trust in God’s goodness when you don’t feel it? God’s Word, the Bible, reminds you of his goodness over and over. Psalm 100:5 says, “The Lord is always good. He is always loving and kind, and his faithfulness goes on and on to each succeeding generation” (TLB).

Focusing on God’s goodness is so important to your life. It gives you perspective on your darkest days when you need it the most. When you forget God’s goodness, you lose perspective and can only see the difficulty you’re facing.

God wants to give you a life of confidence, even on your most difficult days. He wants to give you assurance of his love and care. He wants to give you a life of influence and opportunities so that you can make a difference in the world. And he wants to give you an inheritance and a home in heaven with him forever. Who doesn’t want that? Who doesn’t need that?

So how can you experience God’s goodness? You can learn about God’s goodness as you read the Bible or hear a message about it—but you actually experience God’s goodness when you worship him. Nothing helps you focus like worship!

The Bible says in Psalm 34:9, “Worship GOD if you want the best; worship opens doors to all his goodness” (The Message). The way you experience God’s goodness is through worship—when you praise God and thank him for who he is and what he has promised you.

When you believe and understand the goodness of God, it will revolutionize your life and your perspective on your circumstances. You won’t be the same!

God proved his goodness through his Son, Jesus Christ. The Bible says, “For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16 CSB).

Are you ready to trust God to fulfill his promise of eternal life? If so, pray this simple prayer: "Dear God, I believe Jesus Christ is your Son. I confess I have sinned, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus died to take away my sins and that you raised him to life. I want to trust Jesus as my Savior and follow him as Lord from this day forward. Guide my life and help me to do your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen."

No Importa lo que Hayas Hecho, Dios te Recibirá Nuevamente

“Con gran compasión, te recibiré de nuevo”.  Isaías 54:7 (NTV)

Esta temporada de Navidad, ¿sientes que necesitas refrescarte un poco en tu vida? ¿Te sientes un poco seco? ¿Necesitas algún avivamiento?

Regresa a Dios.

Puedes decir, “Rick, no sabes lo que he hecho”. No necesito saber porque no importa lo que eres o lo que hayas hecho. Dios todavía quiere que regreses a Él.

Puedes decir: “¿Dios no me va a regañar? He estado lejos de Él durante meses, años, décadas.” Esto es lo que la Biblia dice que Dios hará si regresas a Él: “Con gran compasión, te recibiré de nuevo” Isaías 54:7 (NTV).

Dios no está enojado contigo. Nadie te amará más que el Creador que te hizo. Dios el Padre te creó, Jesús el Hijo murió por ti, y el Espíritu de Dios quiere vivir en ti. La Navidad es una prueba del amor de Dios para ti.

Muchas personas no pueden sentir el amor de Dios porque están escuchando las voces equivocadas. Si escuchas lo que otros dicen acerca de ti, vas a desplomarte. Si escuchas lo que tú dices de ti, vas a desplomarte. Deja de creer todo lo que te dices a ti mismo, porque no todo es verdad ­—te mientes a ti mismo más que cualquier otra persona. Tú no eres tu mejor juez porque tus sentimientos te mienten todo el tiempo. ¡Esto es cierto para todos nosotros!

Tienes que decidir a quien le vas a creer. ¿Vas a construir tu vida sobre lo que todos piensan de ti? ¿Vas a escuchar lo que dicen los críticos sobre ti en las redes sociales? ¿Vas a escuchar tus propios sentimientos?

¿O vas a escuchar lo que Dios dice de ti, que es la verdad?

Hechos 3:19 dice: “¡Arrepiéntanse de sus pecados y vuelvan a Dios para que sus pecados sean borrados”.

Eres profundamente defectuoso, pero eres profundamente amado, y eres infinitamente valioso. Es posible que hayas llegado al final de ti mismo y sientes que no tienes a dónde ir. Pero siempre hay alguien a quien recurrir.

Con profundo amor, Dios te llevará de regreso.

Jesus Wants You for Christmas

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.”

Revelation 3:20 (NASB)

What are you giving Jesus for Christmas?

It’s his birthday, after all. You buy gifts for all the other important people in your life. Can you imagine having a birthday party and buying gifts for everybody except the birthday boy?

Well, you ask, what could you possibly give God, who has everything? There is only one thing he wants this Christmas: you.

God doesn’t have your life unless you give it to him. He doesn’t have your trust unless you give it to him. He doesn’t have your love, submission, honor, and obedience unless you give them to him. He gives you choices—because he wants you to choose him.

You might as well stop celebrating Christmas if you’re not going to give Jesus the only gift that he wants from you. God wants you to trust him and love him.

Did you know that there has never been a time when God did not love you? Even before you were born, God loved you. Imagine him saying to you now: “You matter to me. I love you. I’ve cared about every moment of your life. I made you, and I want a relationship with you. And that’s why I came to Earth—to one day redeem everything, including you, so you could be part of my family.”

The Bible says, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me” (Revelation 3:20 NASB).You can begin a friendship with God today. I’m not talking about religion; I’m talking about a relationship with God.

You were not made for a religion; Jesus didn’t die for a religion. Jesus died because he loves you. He wants you in heaven with him. He came to be your Savior.

Luke 2:11 says, “Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord” (NIV). If you didn’t need a Savior, Christmas wouldn’t have happened!

This Christmas, you can either accept Jesus or reject him. You trust him, or you turn away from him. You behold him, or you betray him.

Give Jesus your life this Christmas. It’s the only gift he wants!

Talk It Over

How do you think people hear the voice of God when he is “standing at the door and knocking”?
If you’re a follower of Jesus, what has the fellowship you’ve experienced with God meant to you?
In what ways do you need to re-center your Christmas celebrations so that you are focusing on the true reason Christ came to Earth?

God is knocking, and you can answer the door right now.

If you've never opened your life to Jesus Christ, you can take that step today by saying this simple prayer: “Dear God, thank you that you came to Earth as a human being so I could know what you're like and see your full grace and truth. Jesus, thank you for living a perfect life so that your death could pay for all my sin. I believe you rose from the dead to defeat death and give me the promise that I can live forever with you.

“I know your plan is not finished yet and you're coming back one day. Today, I believe that you're standing at the door of my life, and you're knocking. I want to respond in obedience and submit my life to you. I want to make you Lord of my life and know you as my Lord and Savior. I confess my sin and ask you to forgive me and fill me with your love, presence, and peace. Please work out your purpose in me as I follow you and become more like you. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

Qué Hacer Cuando Empiezas a Preocuparte

“Quédate quieto en la presencia del Señor y espera con paciencia a que él actúe. No te inquietes por la gente mala que prospera”. Salmo 37:7 (NTV)

Es posible que ya no escuches mucho la palabra “inquietarse”. Es una palabra antigua que significa “preocuparse”. Cuando te preocupas, te estresas, te pones ansioso e impaciente. Te preocupas porque las cosas están sucediendo ya sea demasiado rápido y no puedes manejar el cambio, o porque las cosas van demasiado lento y quieres que Dios acelere las cosas.

Por lo general, no nos importa esperar si podemos quejarnos al respecto. Pero cuando eliges esperar pacientemente a Dios en lugar de preocuparte, en realidad es una declaración de fe. Estás haciendo una declaración acerca del carácter de Dios. Cuando esperas pacientemente, estás diciendo que confías en Dios y que tienes fe en Él. Estás admitiendo humildemente que eres dependiente de Dios.

La Biblia dice en el Salmo 37:7: “Quédate quieto en la presencia del Señor y espera con paciencia a que él actúe; no te inquietes por la gente mala que prospera” (NTV).

Una de las más grandes razones por la que nos estresamos, se debe a que estamos comparándonos constantemente con los demás. En lugar de enfocarnos en el amor de Dios y en lo que Él ha hecho por nosotros, vemos a otras personas, enfocándonos en lo que ellos tienen y nosotros no.

Compararte con los demás no es una elección sabia, ya eres uno solo en tu especie.  Dios tiene un plan para tu vida que es diferente de su plan para cualquier otra persona. ¡Si estás deseando el plan de otra persona, entonces vas a perder el plan para tu vida! Comparar conduce a preocuparse. Cuando comparas, empiezas a preocuparte.

Pero la preocupación es totalmente inútil. Cualquier momento que pasas preocupándote, es desperdiciado, porque la preocupación no logra nada. La preocupación no puede cambiar el pasado. No puede controlar el futuro. Solo te hará sentir miserable. Es como sentarte en una mecedora, ir y venir, de ida y vuelta. No se hace ningún progreso y eso utiliza una gran cantidad de energía.

Filipenses 4:6 dice, “No se inquieten por nada; más bien, en toda ocasión, con oración y ruego, presenten sus peticiones a Dios y denle gracias” (NVI).

La preocupación nunca cambiará nada, pero la oración puede cambiar las cosas. Así que no te preocupes esta temporada navideña. ¡Solo ora!

Behold Emmanuel, God With Us

“Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee.”

Matthew 28:5-7 (ESV)

If Jesus had not come back to life, then nobody in the world would be celebrating Christmas. Why? Because Jesus would’ve been a liar and a fake.

Jesus claimed to be God, which a lot of people in history have done—but only Jesus proved it. He defeated death by raising himself back to life.

The resurrection is the most important event in history—so significant that every other event in history is dated in relationship to it. It’s even more important than Christmas; without the resurrection, Christmas wouldn’t matter.

On that first Easter morning, several women who loved Jesus came to his tomb to anoint his body with spices. A large stone had been placed at the opening of Jesus’ tomb. Suddenly there was an earthquake as an angel of the Lord came down from heaven. He rolled away the stone, sat on top of it, and said to the women, “‘Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee . . . So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples.

“And behold, Jesus met them and said, ‘Greetings!’ And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, ‘Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me’” (Matthew 28:5-10 ESV).

Jesus didn’t immediately return to heaven after he came back to life. Instead, he spent the next 40 days meeting and eating with people. He even preached a sermon to 500 people!

After 40 days, Jesus gave these last instructions before he went back to heaven: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20 ESV).

God came to Earth at Christmas because he is Emmanuel, God with us. And he is still with us today.

Through his birth, death, and resurrection, Jesus showed you how much he loves you. And he promises to be with you today, no matter what you’re going through. You are not alone.

Talk It Over

Why is it so amazing that Jesus is Emmanuel, God with us?

Jesus is Emmanuel, God with us. But he won’t force himself into your life. You have to make the choice to accept him as your Savior and Lord. If you’re ready to do that today, pray this prayer of faith:

“Dear God, I hear you knocking at the door of my heart, and I want to open it up to you. I confess that I have sinned and that I need your forgiveness and mercy. Thank you for loving me so much that you sent Jesus to die for my sins, so that I can be forgiven.

“Jesus, you promised that anyone who believes in you will not perish but have everlasting life and eternity with you in heaven. I believe in you and accept you as my Lord and Savior. I want to allow you into all the rooms of my heart and spend the rest of my life serving you. Amen.”

Dios Usa el Tiempo para Ayudarte a Crecer

“En el momento preciso te responderé; En el día de salvación te ayudaré”.  Isaías 49:8 (NTV)

En el momento preciso, Dios puede hacer cualquier cosa al instante. En Isaías 60:22, Dios dice: “A su debido tiempo, yo, el Señor, haré que esto suceda” (NTV).

Esto es difícil de aceptar porque la sala de espera de Dios es a veces el lugar más difícil de la vida. Estamos en la sala de espera de Dios cuando estamos en un apuro para que pase algo, pero Dios no lo está. Tal vez tienes prisa por graduarte, o casarte, o cerrar un gran negocio. Estás viendo que el tiempo se acorta más y más y dices, “Dios, ya no queda mucho tiempo. Esto tiene que suceder ahora, o no va a suceder”.

Pero Dios no está sujeto al tiempo. Como Él creó el tiempo, Él opera fuera del tiempo. Es por eso que la Biblia dice en el Salmo 90:4, que mil años pueden parecerle unas pocas horas a Dios.

Él usa el tiempo para poner a prueba tu fe y para construir tu carácter. Mientras tú estás trabajando en tu meta, Dios está trabajando en ti. Y Dios está mucho más interesado en ti, que en lo que estás tratando de lograr, porque no vas a llevar tus logros al cielo. Solo te vas a llevar tu carácter.

Muchas veces pensamos que estamos esperando en Dios para que algo suceda, como una oración que sea contestada. Dios dice, “Tú no estás esperando en mí. Yo estoy esperando por ti. Te estoy preparando. Estoy probando tu fe y tratando de que madures, porque la bendición que quiero darte es mucho más grande de lo que puedes manejar en este momento. ¿Confiarás en mí?”

Los retrasos pueden ser parte del diseño de Dios, para enseñarte a confiar en Él y a crecer en tu carácter. Isaías 49:8 dice: “En el momento preciso te responderé. En el día de salvación te ayudaré”. No dice ‘que te podría ayudar’ —Dios te escuchará, responderá y ayudará, cuando sea el momento preciso.
