God Shines His Goodness on All People

“The LORD is good to everyone.”

Psalm 145:9 (NLT)

Many people think you only get good gifts from God if you are good. But that’s confusing God with Santa Claus! With Santa we say, we say, “You better watch out, you better not cry . . . Santa Claus is comin’ to town.”

But that’s not how God works. He doesn’t keep a naughty list and a nice list when it comes to his blessings. The Bible says in Matthew 5:45, “[God] makes the sun rise on both good and bad people. And he sends rain for the ones who do right and for the ones who do wrong” (CEV).

God doesn’t play favorites with his grace and his goodness. God offers his grace to everyone—even to people who don’t believe he exists. Whether or not you follow him, God gives you his grace every moment of your life. You wouldn’t even draw your next breath if it weren’t for the grace of God. As Psalm 145:9 says, “The LORD is good to everyone” (NLT).

This is very different from what the world teaches. The world teaches that you get what you deserve in life. Hindus call it karma. It’s the belief that there is a cause and effect for everything you do. Good things happen to you because of the good things you’ve done in the past, and bad things happen to you because of the bad things you’ve done in the past.

But God operates by grace, not karma. If you got what you deserved, then you wouldn’t even be here on Earth. If you got what you deserved, then you would have nothing. Did you deserve to be born? Do you deserve to be able to see colors and taste flavors? Do you deserve forgiveness? No. Those are gifts of God.

In Luke 2:10, an angel says to the shepherds, “Don’t be afraid! . . . I bring you the most joyful news ever announced, and it is for everyone!” (TLB).

This is the first public announcement of Jesus’ birth. Who is this announcement for? Everybody. That means people from every race, every religion, every economic status, and every culture around the world. When the angel announced the Good News at Christmas, there were no restrictions or qualifiers or limits. There were no conditions on who got to hear and respond to the Good News. That’s true today too.

Christmas is for all people—because God is good to all people.

Lo que Significa Ser Libre

“Así que, si el Hijo los hace libres, ustedes son verdaderamente libres”. Juan 8:36 (NTV)

Cuando las personas piensan en la libertad, a menudo piensan en las libertades políticas o religiosas. Pero hay una libertad que va mucho más allá: tu libertad espiritual.

La mayoría de las personas no están viviendo vidas espiritualmente libres. Están atados por dentro. Tienen estrés, preocupación, fatiga, aburrimiento, amargura, culpa, remordimiento, miedo y ansiedad. Pueden vivir en un país libre, pero no son libres espiritualmente.

Jesús dijo en Juan 8:36: “Así que, si el Hijo los hace libres, ustedes son verdaderamente libres” (NTV). Jesús está hablando de sí mismo aquí. Él está diciendo: “Si te libero, vas a ser realmente libre”.

Esto es lo que yo llamo libertad radical. Y en los próximos días, veremos cuatro grandes liberaciones que Jesús te da cuando pones tu confianza en Él como Salvador.

La primera gran libertad en la vida cristiana es una conciencia limpia. Es lo que sucede cuando Dios perdona todos tus pecados y borra toda tu culpa. Pasa un borrador gigante a todo lo que hayas hecho mal o vayas a hacer mal.

Una vez vi un cartel en una estación de gasolina que decía: “Un motor limpio da más potencia”. Eso también es cierto con la conciencia. La culpa es una de las emociones más destructivas. Te cargará y te pesará. La razón por la que tantas personas están agotadas es porque llevan una bolsa de basura de culpabilidad sobre sus hombros.

Pero la Biblia te dice: “[Dios] quien compró nuestra libertad y perdonó nuestros pecados” Colosenses 1:14 (NTV). Jesús ha comprado tu libertad con su propia vida. Su muerte no fue para hacerte religioso, sino para hacerte libre.

¿Debería un creyente en Cristo sentirse culpable alguna vez? Sí, pero por un nanosegundo. En otras palabras, en el momento en que hagas algo mal, confiésalo y luego no te sientas culpable por ello.

Cuando te aferras a la culpa, en realidad es un insulto a Jesús. Es como decir: “Jesús, lo que hiciste en la cruz no fue suficiente. También necesito castigarme a mí mismo”.

Pero imagina despertarte todos los días y decir: “Ya no tengo que preocuparme por eso. Se acabó. Está pagado. ¡Jesús hizo ya pagó por eso!

La voluntad de Dios para tu vida es que ya no cargues con el peso de la culpa. Él quiere que seas libre.

La libertad radical es una conciencia tranquila. No significa que seas perfecto. Pero si significa que estás perdonado. ¡Y esas son buenas noticias!

Reflexiona Sobre Esto:

¿Por qué la libertad espiritual es el tipo de libertad más profundo?¿Cómo es que aferrarse a la culpa es lo mismo que decirle a Jesús que lo que hizo en la cruz no fue suficiente?Con estas verdades en mente, ¿cómo avanzarás hoy, hacia la libertad y lejos de la culpa?

The Greatest Gift Ever

“Out of sheer generosity he put us in right standing with himself. A pure gift. He got us out of the mess we’re in and restored us to where he always wanted us to be. And he did it by means of Jesus Christ. God sacrificed Jesus on the altar of the world to clear that world of sin.”

Romans 3:24-25 (The Message)

The greatest gift you’ve ever been given wasn’t bought in a store. No cash exchanged hands. It wasn’t even wrapped.

Yet it cost the Giver everything.

The Bible says God sent his Son to Earth to give you the greatest gift ever. He came to Earth to die—so that you could be made right with God. Romans 3:24-25 says, “Out of sheer generosity he put us in right standing with himself. A pure gift. He got us out of the mess we’re in and restored us to where he always wanted us to be. And he did it by means of Jesus Christ. God sacrificed Jesus on the altar of the world to clear that world of sin” (The Message).

So why did Jesus have to die? Let’s go back to the basics of people’s problem and God’s solution.

Nobody’s perfect. I’ve never met a single person who has claimed to be perfect. I don’t measure up to my own expectations, much less God’s perfect standard. Neither do you. We’ve all blown it. The Bible says, “All of us have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory” (Romans 3:23 CEV).

God is just. God wants to be fair. When somebody breaks a law, there must be a penalty for it. When you break humanity’s laws, you pay humanity’s penalty. When you break God’s laws, you pay God’s penalty. The Bible says, “The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23 NIV).

Jesus paid the price for your sin. The Bible says, “God took the sinless Christ and poured into him our sins. Then, in exchange, he poured God’s goodness into us!” (2 Corinthians 5:21 TLB). Jesus took on my sin and your sin and all the sin that has ever been committed. That’s the Good News, the Gospel. Jesus paid the price you could never pay.

You must decide whether to accept God’s free gift. God gave you a free gift of salvation when Jesus took your sin upon himself. But it’s a gift you must receive. The Bible says, “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12 NIV).

Will you accept God’s gift of salvation? It’s one thing to understand the basics of how to have a relationship with Jesus. It’s another to accept the gift.

If you’re ready to make the important decision to accept God’s gift of salvation today, then pray this prayer:

“Dear God, I know I’m a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe Jesus Christ is your Son. I believe that he died for my sin and that you raised him to life. Jesus, I want to trust you as my Savior and follow you as Lord from this day forward. I accept your free gift of salvation. Guide my life and help me to do your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Dios te Bendice Para que Puedas Bendecir a Otros

“Todos los creyentes se reunían en un mismo lugar y compartían todo lo que tenían. Vendían sus propiedades y posesiones y compartían el dinero con aquellos en necesidad ”. Hechos 2:44-45 (NTV)

Nadie se sacrificó como la iglesia primitiva. La Biblia dice en Hechos 2:44-45: “Todos los creyentes se reunían en un mismo lugar y compartían todo lo que tenían. Vendían sus propiedades y posesiones y compartían el dinero con aquellos en necesidad” (NTV). Estos primeros cristianos no dieron solo su dinero. Eran generosos con todo lo que tenían. Eran radicalmente generosos.

Dios no solo te da recursos para que los disfrutes, sino para marcar una diferencia en el mundo que te rodea. Dios nunca te bendice solo para que puedas sentarte en lo que tienes. Él te bendice para que puedas bendecir a otros.

Aquí hay cuatro cosas que debes recordar al usar tus bendiciones como Dios lo dispuso.

Tus bendiciones deben fluir hacia los demás.

“No se ocupen solo de sus propios intereses, sino también procuren interesarse en los demás” Filipenses 2:4 (NTV). Esta es la primera ley de la bendición: debe fluir hacia el exterior.

¿Cómo bendices a los demás? Supliendo una necesidad, ya sea sirviendo en alguna labor física o apoyo emocional, ayuda financiera o consejos prácticos.

Cuando bendices a otros, Dios se ocupa de tus necesidades.

Lucas 18:29-30 dice: “Les aseguro que todo el que haya dejado casa o esposa o hermanos o padres o hijos por causa del reino de Dios recibirá mucho más en esta vida y tendrá la vida eterna en el mundo que vendrá” (NTV).

Cuando te enfocas en ayudar a otras personas, Dios asume la responsabilidad de tus problemas. Y eso es una verdadera bendición, porque Él es mucho mejor que tú para manejar tus dificultades.

Tus bendiciones hacia los demás volverán a ti.

Cuanto más bendices y ayudas a los demás, más Dios bendice tu vida. Lucas 6:38 dice: “Den, y recibirán. Lo que den a otros les será devuelto por completo: apretado, sacudido para que haya lugar para más, desbordante y derramado sobre el regazo. La cantidad que den determinará la cantidad que recibirán a cambio” (NTV).

No puedes dar más que Dios. A veces me imagino a Dios diciendo: “Juguemos a ver quién puede dar más. ¡Pero siempre te voy a ganar! Porque cuanto más bendices a los demás, más te voy a bendecir a cambio”.

Cuanto más seas bendecido por Dios, más espera que ayudes a los demás.

Jesús lo dijo así en Lucas 12:48: “Alguien a quien se le ha dado mucho, mucho se le pedirá a cambio; y alguien a quien se le ha confiado mucho, aún más se le exigirá” (NTV).

Tienes la bendición de ser una bendición. Esa es una verdad esperanzadora y alentadora para recordar. En un mundo que te invita a pensar solo en ti mismo, encuentra formas de ser radicalmente generoso con las personas que Dios ha puesto en tu vida.

How to Find Rest at Christmas

“May God, the source of hope, fill you with joy and peace through your faith in him.”

Romans 15:13 (GW)

It’s called the most wonderful time of the year. But for many people, it doesn’t feel that way. Maybe instead of wonder, you’ve found worry this Christmas season. Instead of experiencing peace on Earth, you’re overwhelmed by stress.

Wherever you find yourself this Christmas, Jesus Christ has an incredible offer for you. He says, “If you are tired from carrying heavy burdens, come to me and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28 CEV).

I like that verse because it says the exact opposite of what most people think God will say to them. They think that if God wants them to come home to him this Christmas, he’s going to make some demands along with that.

They think he’ll say something like, “Come home to me and I will give you rules. Come home to me and I will give you regulations. Come home to me and I will give you restrictions. Come home to me and I will give you religion. Come home to me and I will give you rituals.” 

But God doesn’t say any of those things. He says, “Come to me and I will give you rest.”

Read that again. God is offering you true rest from your heavy burdens.

Do you find yourself living in a constant state of fatigue and stress? That’s because you’re trying to live your life on your own power. And God never meant for you to do that. Instead, God wants you to rely on and rest in his power.

The Old Testament says, “He gives power to the tired and worn out, and strength to the weak” (Isaiah 40:29 TLB).   

And the New Testament promises: “God will strengthen you with his own great power so that you will not give up when troubles come” (Colossians 1:11 NCV).

If you’ve been feeling down, anxious, fatigued, or worried this Christmas season, come home to God. He’s the one who created you. He’s watched every moment of your life and knows everything about you—and he still loves you. He forgives you and invites you to come home to his peace and strength.

Won’t you come home to him today? When you do that, you’ll find real rest this Christmas.

Today, I’m turning over every part of my life to your management. I give you my heavy burdens and accept your rest and strength.

“I want to live the way you created me to live and use the rest of my life to serve you instead of serving myself. I commit my life to you and ask you to save me and accept me into your family. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

Cuando Más te Pareces a Jesús

“Por lo tanto, imiten a Dios en todo lo que hagan porque ustedes son sus hijos queridos. Vivan una vida llena de amor, siguiendo el ejemplo de Cristo. Él nos amó y se ofreció a sí mismo como sacrificio por nosotros, como aroma agradable a Dios”. Efesios 5:1-2 (NTV)

Se produce una transformación asombrosa cuando vives con generosidad en cada área de tu vida. El control del materialismo comienza a romperse y tu corazón se hace más grande.

Pero sucede algo aún más grande: te vuelves como Jesús.

¿Cómo es Jesús? Una de sus características es su generosidad escandalosa, fastuosa y radical. Todo lo que tienes, el aire y el agua, tu cerebro y los latidos de tu corazón, es un regalo total de la generosidad de Dios. De hecho, sin la generosidad de Dios, no tendrías nada.

Jesús es el ejemplo maestro de la generosidad. La Biblia dice: “Ustedes conocen la gracia generosa de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Aunque era rico, por amor a ustedes se hizo pobre para que mediante su pobreza pudiera hacerlos ricos” 2 Corintios 8:9 (NTV).

¿Qué significa ese versículo? Jesucristo es Dios. Tenía todo el esplendor del cielo, pero renunció a él y vino a la tierra para nacer en un establo. Eso es lo más bajo que una persona puede llegar. ¿Por qué lo hizo? Ciertamente no lo hizo por sí mismo.

Jesús lo hizo por ti.

Fue el último acto de generosidad: “Pues Dios amó tanto al mundo que dio a su único Hijo” Juan 3:16 (NTV).

Entonces, ¿por qué Dios quiere que vivas generosamente? ¡Porque quiere que seas como Él, y eso significa que quiere que seas generoso!

La Biblia dice: “Por lo tanto, imiten a Dios en todo lo que hagan porque ustedes son sus hijos queridos. Vivan una vida llena de amor, siguiendo el ejemplo de Cristo. Él nos amó y se ofreció a sí mismo como sacrificio por nosotros, como aroma agradable a Dios” Efesios 5:1-2 (NTV).

Dios no te puso en la Tierra para vivir para ti mismo. En cambio, te puso aquí para que aprendas a ser desinteresado y centrado en los demás. Él te creó para reflejarlo.

¿Cómo estás imitando la generosidad de Jesús hoy? Cada vez que eres generoso con tu tiempo, dinero, influencia o amor, empiezas a parecerte cada vez más a Él.

The Good News of God’s Love

“There is only one God, and Christ Jesus is the only one who can bring us to God. Jesus was truly human, and he gave himself to rescue all of us.”

1 Timothy 2:5 (CEV)

Christmas is all about Good News. But it’s not the good news of special gifts. It’s not the good news of a big meal. It’s not even the good news of spending time with friends and family.

Christmas is about the Good News of God’s love.

The Bible says that every single person is lost without God. Without God, you’re directionless. Your potential eternal impact upon the world is unrealized. You’re without real joy. Your eternity in heaven isn’t secure.

But the Good News about Christmas is that God sent Jesus to seek and save the lost. The Bible says, “There is only one God, and Christ Jesus is the only one who can bring us to God. Jesus was truly human, and he gave himself to rescue all of us” (1 Timothy 2:5 CEV).

If you’ve ever spent time in church, you’ve likely heard the word “salvation” many times. But you may not know what the Bible means when it uses that word. The word salvation is like a diamond. You can look at it from many different angles. Here are just a few:

 Jesus came to rescue you. You can’t solve all your problems on your own. Without Jesus you’re trapped in the expectations of others. You’re trapped in living for the approval of your peers. You’re trapped in addictions. You might try to change over and over again, but you don’t have the needed power to escape. Jesus came to give you that power.

 Jesus came to recover you. You long to recover parts of your life that have been lost. Without Christ, you long to recover your strength, your confidence, your reputation, your innocence, and your relationship with God. But only Jesus can recover those things.

Jesus came to reconnect you. Many people think that God will scold them if they come back to him. But God isn’t mad at you. He’s mad about you. Jesus came to Earth on the first Christmas to reconcile you to God—to give you harmony with him again.

Jesus came to Earth to give you the gift of himself. Too many people celebrate his birthday on Christmas without accepting his free gift of salvation. The gift goes unwrapped year after year after year. Don’t make that same mistake in your life. You were made by God and for God. Until you understand that, life will never make sense.

This Christmas, open up the most important present you’ve been given: a new relationship with God through Jesus.

“Jesus, you promised that anyone who believes in you will not perish but have everlasting life and eternity with you in heaven. I believe in you and accept you as my Lord and Savior. I want to allow you into all the rooms of my heart and to spend the rest of my life serving you. Amen.”

La Alegría Viene de la Generosidad

“Hay más bendición en dar que en recibir”. Hechos 20:35 (NTV)

Cuando se trata de generosidad, una de las mejores formas de aprender es del ejemplo de los demás.

Aprendí a ser generoso de mis padres. Crecí viéndolos regalar tantas cosas en la vida. Regalaron hospitalidad, ingresos y comida. Ellos regalaron tiempo, energía y esfuerzo. Ofrecieron sus dones y recursos con la mano abierta, y fueron algunas de las personas más alegres que he conocido.

La Biblia ofrece otro gran modelo de generosidad: la iglesia en Macedonia. Esto es lo que el apóstol Pablo dijo acerca de ellos: “Ahora quiero que sepan, amados hermanos, lo que Dios, en su bondad, ha hecho por medio de las iglesias de Macedonia. Estas iglesias están siendo probadas con muchas aflicciones y además son muy pobres; pero a la vez rebosan de abundante alegría, la cual se desbordó en gran generosidad” 2 Corintios 8:1-2 (NTV).

Nota cómo la iglesia en Macedonia tenía que lidiar con sus propios problemas. Fueron “probadas con muchas aflicciones” porque vivieron durante el Imperio Romano, cuando Nerón era emperador. Era una época en la que ser cristiano podía conducir a una sentencia de muerte. Los macedonios no solo estaban siendo perseguidos por su fe, sino que también eran extremadamente pobres y tal vez necesitaban asistencia financiera.

Pero debido a que “rebosan de abundante alegría”, sus circunstancias difíciles no les impidió tener “gran generosidad” aun siendo muy pobres. No dieron por deber u obligación. Dieron de alegría.

La Biblia dice: “Hay más bendición en dar que en recibir” Hechos 20:35 (NTV).

Cuando era niño, no creía ese versículo. Era inmaduro y pensaba que era más divertido recibir que dar. Y la Navidad siempre se trataba de mí: “¿Qué me van a dar?”

Pero a medida que mis padres me enseñaron el valor de la generosidad, comencé a experimentar la alegría que proviene de dar. Lentamente comencé a madurar y entendí que realmente hay más alegría en dar que en recibir.

Tal vez te encuentres dando por presión o compulsión, y te sientas miserable. Prueba esto en su lugar: da con alegría, sabiendo que Dios siempre es generoso al proveer para tus necesidades. Después de todo, ya te ha dado el regalo más grande de todos, el regalo de la salvación a través de su Hijo, Jesucristo.

¿Quién ha modelado la generosidad para ti? ¿Cómo ha afectado su influencia tu deseo de ser generoso con los demás?Las personas más felices del mundo son las que dan. Why Showing Love at Work Matters

“The quality of each person’s work will be seen when the Day of Christ exposes it. For on that Day fire will reveal everyone’s work; the fire will test it and show its real quality.”

1 Corinthians 3:13 (GNT)

God wants to use your job to make you more like Jesus. But learning Christ-like qualities such as responsibility, character, and love is never easy. To learn those things, you have to respond to people the way Jesus would—and that can be particularly difficult at work.

So why should you make such an effort to become like Jesus in your job?

First, because God is going to evaluate your work one day.

The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 3:13, “The quality of each person’s work will be seen when the Day of Christ exposes it. For on that Day fire will reveal everyone’s work; the fire will test it and show its real quality” (GNT).

Everything you’ve done in your career eventually will be seen—because Christ is going to inspect it on the day of judgment. On that day, everyone’s work will be tested by fire to show the character and quality of what each person has done.

So much of your work may be done without anyone seeing or watching—but God knows. He is watching, and you will give him an account for your work, no matter how menial it seems. You don’t have to always get it right. And you certainly don’t have to be the best. But you do have to work as if you’re doing it for Christ—because you really are.

Second, you should try to become more like Jesus in your work because God is going to give eternal rewards for whatever is done in love.

Hebrews 6:10 says, “God is fair. He won’t forget what you’ve done or the love you’ve shown for him” (GW). You need to remember that verse every Monday morning. God is not going to forget how hard you work, how you give your best, and how you show love in his name.

Your work matters to God. One of your purposes in life is to become like Christ. And your job could be one of the most important ways God teaches you to be responsible, to develop character, and to love others. And it could be one of the most significant ways he uses you to bring others to him.

Talk It Over

When you’ve done a good job at work, do you want other people to know that? Why or why not?
How does it make you feel to know that God is always watching how you work and love others and that everything will be brought into the light one day?
What other people at your job might be watching to see how you treat others, even when work gets difficult? What do you want them to see in you?

Making your work matter starts with a simple prayer.

If you want to make your work matter for eternity, then you can start by saying this to God today: "Lord, I want to learn to be more responsible by keeping my promises, by meeting deadlines, by keeping my word, and by doing all of the things that show responsibility. I want to grow in character and use even the problems in my life and in my job to help me to be more patient, trusting, joyful, and to show the fruit of the Spirit.

“God, please use my job to teach me how to really love people. I want to be known as a loving person. And I ask you to love people through me, even the people that I find difficult to love.”

If you've never made a decision to follow Jesus Christ, you can say to him today, "Jesus, I confess that I have lived life for myself and not for you and your purposes. I have sinned and know that you are the only way I can come to God in faith, repent, and receive salvation. I know your death on the cross and your resurrection make it possible for me to know you and love you and live with you forever one day. Please come into my life as Lord and fill me with your love. I trust you with my life, and I want to follow you the rest of my life. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen."

La Generosidad es una Actitud, no una Cantidad

“Todo lo que den es bien recibido si lo dan con entusiasmo. Y den según lo que tienen, no según lo que no tienen” . 2 Corintios 8:12 (NTV)

La generosidad es mucho más que dar dinero. Se trata de vivir generosamente en cada área de tu vida.

La Biblia dice esto acerca de la generosidad: “Ustedes serán enriquecidos en todo sentido para que en toda ocasión puedan ser generosos, y para que por medio de nosotros la generosidad de ustedes resulte en acciones de gracias a Dios” 2 Corintios 9:11 (NVI).

¿Cómo puede verse “que en toda ocasión puedan ser generosos”? Significa ser generoso con tu tiempo, elogios, simpatía, perdón, amor, cumplidos y amabilidad. Significa ser generoso escuchando para que puedas buscar comprender a los demás. Y significa ser generoso con tu atención para que puedas estar al tanto de las necesidades de las personas.

Pero a Dios no le interesa cuánto das en la vida. A Él le importa por qué das y cómo das. Él se preocupa por tu motivación, tu corazón. Esa es la diferencia entre la generosidad normal y la generosidad radical.

La generosidad radical es una actitud, no una cantidad.

La Biblia lo dice de esta manera: “Todo lo que den es bien recibido si lo dan con entusiasmo. Y den según lo que tienen, no según lo que no tienen” 2 Corintios 8:12 (NTV).

Dios no necesita tu dinero, talento o tiempo. En verdad, Él realmente no necesita nada de ti. Pero lo que si quiere de ti es tu corazón. Lo que quiere es tu amor. La Biblia dice: “Porque donde esté tu tesoro, allí estará también tu corazón” Mateo 6:21 (NVI). Cuando entregues tu vida a Cristo, tu corazón estará con Él.

No importa lo que hagas o lo que des, es importante comprobar tu motivación. ¿Por qué? Porque Dios quiere que “Todo lo que hagan, de palabra o de obra, háganlo en el nombre del Señor Jesús, dando gracias a Dios el Padre por medio de él” Colosenses 3:17 (NVI). Quiere que seas radicalmente generoso.

En los próximos días, veremos el impacto que la generosidad radical puede tener en tu vida. ¡Te cambiará a ti y a las personas que te rodean!
