What have we, as a Nation, learned since then?

As I understand things, not much. In fact to me, we’ve regressed. We’re more like the Taliban and ISIS. I am so bemused by support for Donald Trump and his gang’s ‘governance’ actually pillaging of our country. I wonder how people explain his foul mouth and admitted affairs to their children. I’m stunned as Republicans, especially Moscow Mitch, choose loyalty to Trump and party over country, eagerly destroying the separation of powers that guarantees our survival as a true democracy.

The Course in Miracles says there are only two emotions love and fear, one made by the power we call God, the other by the ego. On this 9/11, which are we allowing to govern us?

Mindful Monday

Now

I must escape the shadowy figures of the past. They are gone, not real and have no hold on me unless I choose to bring them with me. Yet I let them guide my actions now, in the present, reacting to experiences in the past that are over and were probably not even as I remember them. 

With mindfulness, I’m learning to let these ghosts go and seize the numerous opportunities for release in the present. Now is the closest approximation of eternity this world offers. In the reality of now, without past or future anything, truly anything, is possible.

Going Numb

When we and history look back at this time, how shall it be remembered? Fires in the Amazon, random mass shootings, a mentally defective President. We can’t afford to go numb…. Our thoughts become reality. We must become the peace we want to see. We can’t let this become the new normal – which it kind of already is.

Nonviolence is the summit of bravery, Gandhi said. We’ve got to be extremely attentive – mindful – of how our thoughts are contributing to the world we experience. Ernest Holmes suggests this affirmation – I am guided by the same intelligence and inspired by the same imagination which scatters moonbeams across the waves and holds the forces of nature in it’s grasp. Amen!

Stay or Go?

It takes more energy to stay in the past than go forward.

Ask, would I want this to be my response three or four days from now?

Have you thought – I was done with this, why am I here again?

Then know you can’t relive the same experience because you are no longer the same….

Face the old memories with your new, current self and reframe them.

Different more meaningful moments are your birthright.

Go, don’t stay.

He said, “Why did you ask me if you were prepared to accept my answer?”

Indeed!

How many times do I pray, receive an answer and not accept it?

Inside-Out 2

What if what’s bothering me isn’t outside but inside – another idea?

It’s my choice to identify with it, to choose to entertain it or not.

Thoughts and ideas are constantly offering themselves. Zen calls that constant chatter the ‘monkey mind’.

Zen suggests that meditation stills the monkey mind and allows us to rest in the stillness from which all thought arises.

That then is the goal – to rest in the stillness that we call ‘God’ or ‘soul’, to have the stillness be our default. To check our choice of which thoughts to entertain against our stillness, intuition, and go from there.

Inside-Out

“Nothing outside can make me feel anything. There’s no thing to worry about and I can worry about anything.” Michael Neill

This is so true. If I can only remember to shift, I can experience life differently. Trump and gang will still be pillaging our country. My darling wife will still have abdominal cancer. I will still be having my Dream Group Trilogy rejected. But, when I shift to the inside and look out from there, I feel differently about these things and act differently, not so depressed and hopeless.
