Enlightenment
I just read an article on brain research. Very cool, very interesting.
According to the article, we have three networks in our brains that control/direct/create our experience: the Central Executive Network, CEN, for focused attention and decision making, the Default Mode Network, DMN, for mind wandering, day dreaming and unfocused attention, and the Salience Network, SN, for meaning and purpose, mindfulness, loving-kindness and meditation.
We need and use all three, none is ‘better’ nor more important than the other. ‘Enlightenment’ is the perfect balance between them.
Mindfulness practice – observing our thoughts and feelings without judgment in a relaxed state, enables us to achieve and maintain balance and with it, moments of enlightenment.

Mindful Monday
Reasons: a Poem Steve Liebowitz 12/18/18
Oh, how we love our reasons!
Why did the shooter shoot?
Why did the stock market crash?
Why do I bite my tongue,
have stomach aches,
get cancer?
How could people vote for Trump?
Reasons make us comfortable.
They suggest a plan,
guidance, order
reduce fear
provide structure, meaning.
We come up with reasons
because we have to,
part of being human.
But think.
They’re fashionable, aren’t they?
Eighteenth Century reasons
don’t work well anymore.
Perhaps relying a bit
less on ‘reasons’,
more on gut, heart and soul
would work better.
“Nobody knows anything”
the late William Goldman said
about success in the movies.
Perhaps that applies to Life, too.

Both/and Thinking
Religion without science is superstition. Science without religion is materialism – Bahai creed.
We have not been asked to work out the plan for salvation for ourselves. Spirit through intuition provides everything we need. Each of us has a piece of the puzzle. By acting on our hearts desires, we put our pieces on the table so the puzzle can be completed.

Mindful Monday
Blossoming
“The flower doesn’t dream of the bee. It blooms and the bee comes.”
So with us. As we are mindful of, respect and nurture our gifts – whatever they are, so we attract the people and things that will pollinate us and help us blossom. We each have an inner fragrance that calls others to eat our nectar. We didn’t put it there, we didn’t have to make it, work at it or improve it, its our birthright. Our job is to be mindful of it respect, nurture and share it.
