Thoughts On The Clamor For More Twin Peaks After Finally Binge Watching The Original Two Seasons

I remember wondering why people had been clamoring so bad for more Twin Peaks for so many years. Not having watched the show before, I didn’t know if it had just come to its natural end or if it had been forced down due to financial concerns and needed to be wrapped up. After having binge watched the original show over the last two days, I’m still not sure what to think.

I mean, sure, there’s plenty that wasn’t wrapped up. I’d like more closure. I’ll probably go on to watch the subsequent movie and then the 2017 show…but I still don’t know if the original was fully encapsulated for Lynch or not.

I’m sure he could have done other stuff, and did, but I don’t typically think of “closure” when I think of his stuff. I don’t typically think of having to come to a full understanding, or that I even should be able to. Sure, there seemed to be a sign in the last episode that more was necessary for the full story as opposed to just being able to find more story to tell…but I don’t know.

The original may have been intended to be full on its own and the next stuff may just have been additional stories that Lynch decided he could tell. I’m not sure I can come to a conclusion. I’m not sure I’ll be able to once I watch all the rest either. I’m not even sure that I’d want to.

Michael Seidlinger, Jon Konrath, and Others Are Semi-Involved In My Missing Time

Well, I’ve finished binge watching the original Twin Peaks series. The main impetus behind this was all the references friends (Michael Seidlinger, Jon Konrath, and others) have made to the show. Some things I could just pick up based on the other references I’d seen to the show in the mass culture, but others really made me think I needed to watch the show in order to be speaking enough of the common cultural language.

Two seasons. Season one: 8 episodes.  Season two: 22 episodes.  Each season including one hour and a half first episode, the rest forty five minutes.  If I’m not miscalculating, that’s about 24 hours. I started watching Friday evening, finished Monday evening. One total day over a space of four days.

Now…do I go on to Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me? The 2017 additional series? I have them available…will I go right on? Will I take a break?

Time will tell.

Synchronicity In My Binge Watching

I ran across a funny synchronicity in my recent binge watching of Twin Peaks. I’m sure ya’ll remember that I’ve been intending to watch this show for years now and just recently finally got around to doing it. I set aside a weekend and from Friday afternoon through Sunday evening managed to get through about 25 episodes. On that Sunday, all sorts of my friends were talking about Twin Peaks. That seemed like a bit of a synchronicity.

Turns out, the weekend I’d picked for my binge watch was the 28th anniversary of when the show first aired. Not Friday, but Sunday. The show first aired on April 8, 1990 and here I’d picked April 6th-8th for my initial first run. I had no idea.

It seemed like exactly the sort of thing that should happen with Twin Peaks.

Another Inappropriate Thought

I mentioned that I had been binge watching Twin Peaks. I got to the end of episode 16 “Arbitrary Law” (season 2, episode 9) and as the last few lines were delivered I thought:

My brain is odd. Also about three decades behind everyone else.

Is It Funny That The Mill Appears In The Season Two Opener For Twin Peaks?

You all will have to excuse me, I’m almost thirty years late to the whole Twin Peaks thing. I finally decided to get caught up on this, and binge watched a bunch this last weekend. I’m up to the 18th episode of season two right now (Episode 25 “On the Wings of Love”). Something struck me as funny, the mill is still in the opening credits all of season two.

However, the mill was completely destroyed in the last episode of season one.

It’s just kind of amusing to keep seeing it.  22 episodes like that, longer than the episodes for which the mill was there.

I’m actually kind of surprised Lynch didn’t have the exact same opener but with a destroyed mill replacing the original in the exact same shots. That seems like a gag he would have had fun doing.

It’s Monday…We Need A Soothing Image

It’s Monday. We need a soothing image.

Isn’t that relaxing?

Hi Dad – I’m in Jail!

I was just feeling nostalgic for when MTV used to randomly play this once in a while.

It was just such a weird thing. I loved it.

I Just Realized I Got Absolutely No Easter Candy This Year

I just realized that I got absolutely no Easter candy this year. We don’t really do a whole lot when we aren’t travelling back to see family, where the big celebrations still go on, but we usually pick up SOMETHING. Cadbury eggs, chocolate bunnies, jellybeans, something. This year I didn’t even think about it. Our biggest concern was remembering not to go to our usual breakfast places that Sunday because we knew what Easter traffic would be like there.

It’s not important or anything. I’m not missing it. It just struck me all of a sudden.

Another Thing I Think Of When Ya’ll Keep Talking About “Stormy”

Ya’ll are still talking about “Stormy.” Here’s another thing I think of each time before realizing what you’re talking about:

Yup, Stormin’ Norman Schwarzkopf. Didn’t remember he’d passed on a while back until I was putting this together and got curious what ever happened to him.

What Is The Grossest Canned Food?

What’s the grossest canned food? I’m betting on the whole canned chicken over the canned cheeseburger, but frankly I don’t think I could be certain unless I tried them both.

I’m too scared to try either.
