$4000/Month Making 1-Page Websites

Published August 21, 2023 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty
I recently came across this reddit thread asking people what they’re doing to make $5K/month
One response that stood out to me was from a guy named Matt Merrick.
He lists 4 ways he’s making money online
1. Blogs/ affiliate sites. Making 20k/month.
2. Newsletters. I make $100 a month right now from my newsletter subscribers (it costs $10/year) so yes I have 10 premium members. I share how and ways to find the perfect niche (link) help you grow to earn money online with my tips and tricks I’ve learned along the way + share income reports of all my earnings.
3. Merch By Amazon – 2k a month. Teepublic $500 All the rest $100 if I’m lucky.
4. Site manager ? Not sure how to explain this one but I host local businesses website in my area. I charge a yearly fee of anywhere from $100-300. I host it all on carrd. I’m at about 300 businesses. I update some of them never in a year and others weekly. All depends.
While the first 3 businesses there require quite a bit of time invested up front, the last one strikes me as something you can get going pretty fast
Matt targets local businesses like delis and barbershops, builds them simple websites using Carrd, a low-priced one-page site builder…
The biggest plan on carrd is 500 accounts for like $399/year. So I make my money after 2-3 sites.
If Matt’s average client pays him $150, this simple business would be earning him about $45,000 a year (almost $4000 a month)
Sure, most small businesses could set up something like this themselves, but as Matt says…
They don’t wanna do it. Don’t know about carrd. Remember I’m not saying I’m targeting big companies or startups. My main target is barbershop in my local area, deli’s, some pizza shop that don’t like Uber eats.
You could also use something like ComponentsUI which is a collection of pre-built components and templates for Carrd.co to speed things up and make amazing sites for businesses in your area
As for actually getting clients, Matt explains how he’s done it…
it’s stores I’ve gone to over the years. I guess it can [work] anywhere. But I don’t advertise so it’s really just word of mouth. And I walk into the business knowing about their website and kinda just explain how I do this and help people. Some say sure other say I’m fine. I open with my Prices and most people just like it for that
To get the ball rolling, you could offer a free website to a couple of clients, maybe friends or family who own a local business. Get some experience and build a small portfolio that way
Let me know if you give this a try and how it works out for you.

What Defines Who You’ll Become in the Future

Published August 17, 2023 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty
A recent article from Peter Piekarczyk…
Peter co-founded Draftbit, a tool that lets you build mobile apps visually. They’ve apparently raised $3.9 million in funding
A few bits from his article…
Whether you get thirty minutes or four hours each night, what you do with the time that you have for yourself will define who you’ll become in the future.
There are many ways you can spend such time meaningfully, such as building a business or hanging out with loved ones.
Whereas endlessly scrolling through social media or binging Netflix… that’s not going to do much for your future
The future you want to build could take 2 years, or realistically 10, but as long as you work at it every day, you’ll get there…
Some folks figure it out early. Some folks figure it out faster. Some folks get a head start. That’s life. It’s not always fair.
Life is definitely hard.
But constantly comparing yourself to others makes it even harder
Try to focus on running your own race, comparing your progress to where you were last week, last month, last year. Try to get a little bit better every day.
That defining moment is up to you: “Do I want to figure out how to live the life of my dreams OR do I want to watch Netflix again tonight?”
Wanting it badly enough means not feeling sorry for yourself and being resentful at the world for the easy choices that YOU’RE choosing to make.
Easy to dismiss that kind of tough talk, but if you feel irritated by it then there’s probably some truth there, no?
Last words from Peter
Wanting it badly enough means putting in the work every single day.
I still haven’t figured it out, but I’m working hard to get there making sure every day counts.

Earning $20,000/Month Helping People With PR

Published August 17, 2023 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty
Dmitry Dragilev bootstrapped and eventually sold JustReachOut.
That’s software that provides tools and a database of 700K+ journalists to help companies build high-quality backlinks and plan effective PR strategies.
Dmitry sold 80% of the business in 2020 for “between $700,000 and $900,000”
At the time, JustReachOut was generating around $250,000 in annual revenue, or about $20K a month.
Dmitry started the business in 2014, helping customers with outreach campaigns and ultimately SEO…
The backlinks JustReachOut helps companies build are valuable because they signal to Google that other websites find your content useful enough to link to within their content.
The more quality backlinks your website has, especially from reputable sites like major media outlets, the higher your content can rank on search engines like Google
So JustReachOut essentially helps their customers shortcut the SEO process by making backlink-building more turnkey.
But Dmitry had to do a lot of one-on-one work and customer hand-holding in the early days…
I got a hundred people in it, 200 people in it, and then… it wasn’t working out for those people cause they… didn’t know how to do PR. So I started teaching them how to do PR and I started figuring out how to do that and educate them.
…And then I had to work on that part and I was kind of a little bit all over the place as a sole founder, without a team and trying to grow this, earn a living and… sustain my family life as well.
Dmitry eventually transitioned JustReachOut to more of a lifestyle business, spending about 15-20 hours per week on it
Then, six years after launch, he made the sale.
Dmitry still owns 20% of the company and serves as a brand ambassador.
When I heard this story I was reminded of another we featured recently
That was a “database” business that gave PR agencies a big list of podcasts they could pitch their clients to, to get them more exposure.
And a big part of Dmitry’s business is the database of journalists that customers could get access to.
What other lists or databases might people pay for?
Have you ever gone looking for contact info for a certain group of people but couldn’t find anything?
Could be a business there.

$6000/Month VA Business With Little Online Presence

Published August 17, 2023 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty
We review lots of virtual assistant courses on eBiz Facts
A student named Bri McDonald recently commented on our review of a course called Launch in 30 Days…
Right now I’m up to lucky client number 6…
During my first month [as a virtual assistant] I brought in $7,000, excluding GST. Several months in, I am on track to earn $10,000 (excluding GST) monthly.
Bri is based in New Zealand so those figures are NZD.
Approximate conversions…
$7000 NZD = $4200 USD$10,000 NZD = $6000 USD(Also, GST is a goods and services tax, like VAT in Europe.)
I find Bri’s results remarkable considering she doesn’t have much of an online presence.
A post on her Facebook page reveals how she landed her first client
We have just spent a couple of days down in Franz Josef visiting my first client (Franz Josef Top 10 Holiday Park – aka my mum)
The idea for my business steamed from the work I have been doing to support my mum remotely in her business. The thought of being able to provide remote admin support to multiple businesses across the country was super exciting.
So I ran with the idea and here we are!
Most likely, Bri used the results she got from helping her mom’s business to land other clients.
I suspect she also leveraged her existing network, which isn’t very big; Bri has less than 300 connections on LinkedIn as of this writing.
But despite not having a website or a significant social media following, she’s managed to build up a profitable VA business in a few short months
My takeaway: your existing relationships and some word-of-mouth can be enough to get a simple service business up and running.
Does that uncle of yours need a website or help with Excel?
That little opportunity could well be the start of a new career
The key is getting results for that first client or two, then leveraging those results to land more clients.

I’m on a mission to accurately rate and review all the best trading courses. My team and I have spent 500+ hours investigating these courses and getting feedback from real students.
All that to say: we know a thing or two about such courses and making money online.
The Best Affiliate Marketing Course? We’re on a mission to find the best affiliate marketing course based on real student feedback and our extensive research.
Affiliate Marketing Success MasterClass is decent but doesn’t quite make the top of our list…

Simply put: when you write content and drive visitors to your travel blog from search engines like Google, you can promote other people’s products and earn a commission when they buy.
From the sales page…
Learn more about affiliate marketingWho is Affiliate Marketing Success MasterClass for?…You’ll have a firm foundation to build on for years to come — and you’ll have the confidence you need to take the first steps into the world of affiliate marketing.
Affiliate Marketing Success MasterClass seems to target travel bloggers of all experience levels seeking to earn their first affiliate commissions online. The course touches on some more advanced affiliate ideas as well.
From the sales page…

Yes.
According to her website, Shelley has been featured in multiple major publications…

Entrepreneur featured her too…

At the time of writing, Shelley has reportedly makes about $60k per month with her travel blogs…

So Shelley certainly knows what she’s doing in the travel blogging and affiliate marketing world.
And I found no controversy or scam reports related to her or Affiliate Marketing Success MasterClass online.
Are Shelley Marmor students getting results? It appears so.
The Affiliate Marketing 101 MasterClass sales page features a student’s earnings…

And a few more from Shelley’s site…

Note that it’s unclear if these earnings are from Shelley’s beginner course or how recent they are.
Aside from the student earnings proof, some students just had good things…

This course is still relatively new at the time of writing, so I expect to see more positive feedback trickle in.
How much does Affiliate Marketing Success MasterClass cost?Affiliate Marketing Success MasterClass costs $49 one-time.
Assuming you already have a blog, the only other additional cost is a keyword tool called KeySearch. It costs about $14 per month extra with Shelley’s discount code.
Shelley also introduces two optional programs: SEO roadmap for $1,197 and her affiliate keywords course for $249.
Affiliate Marketing Success MasterClass Discount?I’ve searched high and low for a discount or coupon code for Affiliate Marketing Success MasterClass but have yet to find mention of one anywhere. But there is a place to enter a discount code at checkout.
So it looks like you’ll have to pay the full price if you want access.
Refund PolicyAffiliate Marketing Success MasterClass has a 14-day money-back guarantee.
The official word…
If after you go through all the modules in the course, you find that you don’t have a better understanding on how to confidently get started with affiliate marketing, and you don’t feel like this course added even a single grain of value to your blogging life… I’ll refund you.
This is a decent policy IMO, but I’ve found a 30-day guarantee to be the sweet spot.
How is Affiliate Marketing Success MasterClass structured? The course is structured into 6 modules, and I counted 9 videos with a bit over 2 hours of content.
Here’s a look inside…

Most videos are PowerPoint style lessons rather than over-the-shoulder and step-by-step instructions.
This means you’ll learn more theory than steps to apply, but there’s plenty of value regardless.
In addition, about 40 minutes of content went over a tool you can buy with Shelley’s affiliate link. I happened to find this interesting as it introduced me to an affiliate tool Shelley credits much of her success to that I hadn’t heard of before.

A few things to like about Affiliate Marketing Success MasterClass…
Active community.Fair amount of student earnings proof.Good training on affiliate marketing fundamentals.Shelley Marmor is the real deal.No misleading marketing tactics.Red Flags

Finding Work You Love
From Paul Graham’s excellent essay, How To Do What You Love…
It’s hard to find work you love; it must be, if so few do. So don’t underestimate this task. And don’t feel bad if you haven’t succeeded yet. In fact, if you admit to yourself that you’re discontented, you’re a step ahead of most people, who are still in denial.
He goes on to share two things you can do to “keep yourself honest” on the search for work you love…
One is to try to do a good job at whatever you’re doing, even if you don’t like it. Then at least you’ll know you’re not using dissatisfaction as an excuse for being lazy. Perhaps more importantly, you’ll get into the habit of doing things well.
I’ve noticed that the people who do well working for themselves are often the people who do well working for others.
They were usually crushing it as an employee before deciding to step away and do their own thing.
So if you’re in a job you don’t particularly like right now, use it as an opportunity to get into the habit of doing things well.
Back to Paul Graham…
Another test you can use is: always produce. For example, if you have a day job you don’t take seriously because you plan to be a novelist, are you producing? Are you writing pages of fiction, however bad? As long as you’re producing, you’ll know you’re not merely using the hazy vision of the grand novel you plan to write one day as an opiate. The view of it will be obstructed by the all too palpably flawed one you’re actually writing.
It can be hard to work on your own stuff while holding down a full-time job. And then you might have family commitments as well
But do your best to produce something regularly, even if it’s only snippets of code or writing or video or whatever.
Last words from Graham
Whichever route you take, expect a struggle. Finding work you love is very difficult. Most people fail. Even if you succeed, it’s rare to be free to work on what you want till your thirties or forties. But if you have the destination in sight you’ll be more likely to arrive at it. If you know you can love work, you’re in the home stretch, and if you know what work you love, you’re practically there.
(Btw, the Founders podcast has a good episode about Paul Graham’s essays.)
Basketball YouTube Channel Earns Him $15,000/Month

Published August 15, 2023 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty
Casey Keirnan is the guy behind the A.M. Hoops YouTube channel
The channel focuses on NBA news and opinion, and has racked up 400,000 subscribers and 270 million views since launching in late 2019.
One of his most popular videos
Casey recently shared his story on Simon Owen’s podcast …
He started his career in local TV news, covering high school sports in small towns across Texas, and steadily moved up to larger markets over the years.
Casey credits his first news director for instilling in him the importance of storytelling.
The director told him…
No one cares about sports. I don’t want you to do what you think a sports anchor should do as a reporter. I want you to do a story that the grandma watching our news, when sports comes on, she goes, “Oh, wait. I’m not going to change the channel. I like this sports guy, the stories he tells, I’m going to watch this because I enjoy this.”
(A good reminder there that news can’t just be informative nowadays; it also has to be entertaining to compete with all the other content out there.)
After paying his dues in local news, Casey landed a role as an anchor for CBS Sports HQ in 2017.
But he struggled to find his footing…
I had only been anchoring for one year. and I didn’t even really watch sports growing up. I just thought, oh, that’d be a fun job. So I just kind of accidentally worked my way into this… and it was not comfortable at all.
Despite supportive coworkers lobbying for him, Casey’s contract was not renewed after 2 years
Then, instead of trying to find another job, he took a chance on YouTube.
He launched A.M. Hoops in late 2019, initially producing 5 videos a week.
His strong storytelling skills from years in local news helped the content connect. And within 3 months, the channel was earning Casey as much revenue as his CBS salary
Apparently, the average salary for an on-air talent at CBS is about $66K.
So Casey must have been earning at least $5K/month back then.
Now with a much bigger audience in 2023, it’s probably safe to assume that he’s earning $15-20K each month
Casey revealed his revenue sources in the aforementioned podcast…
I’m about 50-50 with AdSense and brand deals.
Casey partially credits his success to focusing on a single sport rather than trying to cover everything…
Trying to be all things to all people on the internet is almost impossible, unless you come in with a giant name.
On the production side, Casey leveraged his experience from local news to shoot and edit videos himself in the beginning. He’s since hired help.
Sounds like he’s now living the dream…
I’ve got the sweetest gig in the world. I get to wake up, go to the gym, come home, get on my computer, write, literally turn my chair around, film, and then send it off to the editor. I love this.
And before you go thinking that only a guy with professional news anchor experience can pull off something like this, I refer you to a similar YouTube channel called Heat Check
That channel has 600k subscribers, and it’s run by a random guy who lives in Macedonia …

He 10xed Revenue on a $50,000 Website

Published August 15, 2023 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty
Ian Nuttall shares how he purchased a website in 2021 after selling one of his projects for a 7-figure exit.
In short
He explains…
Programmatic SEO is a way of generating a large number of blog posts or content on topics people are searching for in Google at scale using a template and a data source…
You’ll probably have seen it in action with local SEO. Sites like TripAdvisor, Expedia, Airbnb, etc use programmatic SEO to generate landing pages for tens of thousands of locations.
Let’s say you have a website with 1,000 pages created using programmatic SEO (which is a tiny amount compared to most of my sites).
If you average 50 visits a month per page, that’s 50,000 visits a month.
After the due diligence process, Ian finally acquired the $50k site in October 2021
(He never reveals the actual site, btw. Which is understandable, to avoid copycats.)
Ian then began the process of wrangling all the messy data sources into a usable database to power the updated pSEO version of the site….
Honestly, the data was PAINFUL to work with.
I hadn’t worked with this type of data before, so I found a Python developer to write me a set of scripts that would pull the data in from all of the locations, along with pretty column names that described what each piece of data was.
He also changed the URLs…
The structure of the existing site was so erratic, with content in the same sections having completely different URLs, that it was virtually impossible to keep the existing URLs as-is.
The new site launched in November 2021 and immediately lost 50% of its search traffic due to a Google algorithm update
I knew when I made the decision to change the URLs that there was a risk of the site losing a lot of traffic, but the long-term benefit of clean URLs, well-structured sections, and removing the nauseating hyphen and underscore combo, was worth it.
For the next 6 months he worked to diagnose and fix issues
Ian’s persistence finally paid off when a Google update in May 2022 restored the lost traffic.
The story has a happy ending…
the site now earns $6-7k a month passively. Programmatic SEO, ftw.
Sounds like it’s still mostly monetized with display ads, but Ian has also mixed in some affiliate offers.
He concludes
The final thing I’ve learned is that building SEO-powered businesses requires extreme levels of patience.
I’ve sold many sites too early, only to see the traffic sky-rocket and the new owners generate five figures a month.
Six months is a long time to wait for a recovery, but that was almost a year ago now and seems like a distant memory. The road is long and winding, so stay the course.

The Accidental Guitar Guru Raking in $250K a Month

Published August 15, 2023 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty
Justin Sandercoe is an Australian guitarist who accidentally built one of the most popular online guitar learning platforms in the world: JustinGuitar.com
Justin has played with famous musicians like Katie Melua over the years. But back in 2003 he was teaching private guitar lessons out of his London home to make extra money.
To support his students, he created JustinGuitar and started posting free video lessons (first version of the site).
In 2006, he moved his lessons over to YouTube – here’s an early, blurry video – which helped him reach a wider audience…
His channel grew steadily, and he now has 1.6 million subscribers
I first came across Justin’s story via a tweet from John Bardos…
What’s the best way to stand out as a creator?John estimated that Justin is earning more than $100k per month from various online income streams
In addition to the free YouTube lessons (monetized with the usual YT ads), Justin sells books, DVDs, mobile apps, courses and merch.
And get this…
If you sign up for a free account on SensorTower, they estimate that the Justin Guitar Lessons & Songs app alone did $200,000 in revenue last month
Combine that with all his other revenue streams, and Justin could well be earning more than $250,000 per month online.
Not bad for someone whose peak level of success in the traditional music industry was, as he puts it, “touring as a sideman… for a long time.”
But that’s the beauty of the internet: it opens up all kinds of opportunities for people to earn a living.
As always though, it took Justin years and years of work to get to where he is now. He has posted more than 1100 videos on his channel, and his early website and videos show you how small and rugged he started.
But my #1 takeaway here: I doubt anyone would consider Justin to be the best guitarist in the world, but many people would consider him to be the best guitar teacher in the world.
Likewise, many of the best sports coaches were never great players of that sport themselves.
What’s something you’re quite good at or know a lot about?
Could you teach that online?

How does Comprehensive Copywriting Academy help you make money?
Comprehensive Copywriting Academy (CCA) aims to help you enhance your copywriting and get paid to write for companies and business owners.
For example…
An e-commerce brand might hire you to write emails that drive more revenue.A local personal injury attorney might pay you to choose the wording for a billboard advertising their services.A large company might hire you to craft scripts for their Facebook Ads videos. From the sales page…

CCA mentions two types of people who are a good fit…
Brand new copywritersCopywriters with some experience who lack real tractionFrom the sales video…

Regardless of skill level, the one thing successful students seem to have in common is that they are serious about committing to building a successful copywriting business.
70+ ways how to make money online (including easy options)Does Filthy Rich Writer have a good reputation?Yes.
Comprehensive Copywriting Academy was created by a digital business called Filthy Rich Writer.
According to the About Us page…
Filthy Rich Writer is an online resource for new and aspiring copywriters, dedicated to providing tips, tools, and training to help people create the careers of their dreams. We are deeply and fundamentally opposed to gimmicks or get-rich-quick schemes; this is about real career training for real career success.
From the founder and course instructor Nicki Krawczyk’s bio…
Nicki Krawczyk has been a copywriter for more than 20 years: freelance, on-staff, for agencies, for in-house teams, for herself as a full-time freelancer making six figures, and as a Copy Director. She’s worked for and with clients including TripAdvisor, Marshalls, Hasbro, Keurig, adidas and, yes, even Harlequin Romance novels.
Since 2012, she’s helped more than 9,000 students take control of their careers, their incomes, and their lifestyles through Filthy Rich Writer and its signature course, the Comprehensive Copywriting Academy.
I mainly found praise for CCA, Filthy Rich Writer, and Nicki during my research…

There were a few online comments that gave me pause.
The first is that some people felt the refund policy was unfair…

And that negativity apparently gets people kicked out of the FB group…

Though another member explains why this might not be bad (and I agree)…

Another comment that stood out claimed speaking negatively about the program is not allowed…

According to the Filthy Rich Writer’s TOS, there is indeed a non-disparagement clause…
The Parties agree and accept that the only venue for resolving such a dispute shall be in the venue set forth herein below. The Parties agree that they neither will engage in any conduct or communications with a third party, public or private, designed to disparage the other.
Neither Client nor any of Client’s associates, employees or affiliates will directly or indirectly, in any capacity or manner, make, express, transmit speak, write, verbalize or otherwise communicate in any way (or cause, further, assist, solicit, encourage, support or participate in any of the foregoing), any remark, comment, message, information, declaration, communication or other statement of any kind, whether verbal, in writing, electronically transferred or otherwise, that might reasonably be construed to be derogatory or critical of, or negative toward, the Company or any of its programs, members, owner directors, officers, affiliates, subsidiaries, employees, agents or representatives.
To summarize, posting or speaking negatively about Filthy Rich Writer, Comprehensive Copywriting Academy, or Nicki Krawczyk is against its terms of service.
To me, this is a weird concept, but it does align with praise for Filthy Rich Writer’s no-bullshit approach to ensuring its community remains positive.
From the FB group’s rules…

It looks like those who agree with this style speak highly of Filthy Rich Writer while those who don’t have more critical things to say.
You could call this polorazing, which happens to be commonly found in good copy.
Here’s a video from Nicki’s YouTube channel so you can get a feel for her style…
Are Filthy Rich Writer’s students getting results? There is an abundance of 100+ student testimonials in the Filthy Rich Writer’s website.
Here are some featuring actual student results…

There are multiple video reviews with positive student feedback as well…

Lifetime access costs $697 one-time or three monthly payments of $257.
Additional costs are minimal…
~$10 for a domain~$20/mo for hostingComprehensive Copywriting Academy Discount?I’ve searched high and low for a discount or coupon code but have yet to find mention of one anywhere. There’s no place to enter a discount code at checkout either.
Sorry folks: it’s full-price or nothing.
Refund PolicyAs a general rule, Comprehensive Copywriting Academy offers no refunds.
The official word…
We DO NOT offer refunds on our Comprehensive Copywriting Academy program.
But there is a conditional 30-day guarantee.
Here are the requirements to be eligible…
Watch all videos in the Foundations Module,
Provide all fully completed action sheets from the Foundations Module,
Provide the link to their active portfolio website,
Provide the completed Client Tracking Sheet from the Find Small Business Clients bonus course or the Client Pitching Tracking Sheet from the Client Pitching Masterclass with at least 25 companies and all associated details listed
Provide the 25 emails sent to these companies and any applicable one- and two-week follow-up emails
Some people have complained it’s unreasonable to expect people to accomplish these tasks within 30 days…

Another Redditor commented…

I’m not a fan of conditional guarantees. There are many programs out there that offer an unconditional 30-day money-back guarantee, and this should be the standard, IMO.
I wouldn’t expect a refund with CCA, but that won’t matter if you decide to commit.
How is Comprehensive Copywriting Academy structured?CCA consists of core training, bi-monthly live coaching calls and recordings, Facebook community access, and bonus courses.
Bonus courses include topics relating to…
Building a portfolioGetting clientsWriting for specific mediumsMindset & motivationAdvanced scaling tacticsHere’s a look at the core training…

And inside a lesson…

Videos are about 10 minutes on average and mostly feature PowerPoint slides.
Lessons are clearly labeled and often include supplemental text that makes it easy to reference specific topics.
Plus, the FB group is one of the most active private copywriting communities I’ve seen…

A few things to like about Comprehensive Copywriting Academy …
Lots of student testimonials and success stories.Active and supportive private community.Minimal expense beyond the price of the training.Lessons are short and simple, easily digestible.Regularly updated, with free updates for existing students.Nicki Krawczyk walks her talk.A solid amount of bonuses.Red Flags
Some knocks on Comprehensive Copywriting Academy …
Conditional refund policy.Lots of PowerPoint-style videos telling rather than showingAgainst TOS to speak negatively about the courseQuestionable marketing tactics (fake scarcity)Other things you should knowA good way to think of Nicki’s training: She’s basically documented everything she’s done to build her own successful copywriting businesses over the last 10+ years.
