His AI Side Project Went Viral and Earns $20K/Month

David Bressler is the founder of Formula Bot, a tool that uses AI to translate text instructions into Excel and Google Sheets formulas

According to a recent interview, David launched September 2022 and…
Pulled in $10.7K revenue the first month
Was up to $20,000 a month by May
David came up with the idea while on paternity leave in May 2022.
He started experimenting with AI and asked it a basic Excel formula question. The formula populated correctly within seconds 
So he kept going…
As the questions got tougher, in general, I found that ‘out of the box’ accuracy was ~85%.
In most cases, 85% is “good enough,” but not when it comes to data/analytics. This was my opportunity.
Given my background in analytics and Excel specifically, I knew I’d be able to work on the model’s output to build a highly accurate AI model.
Later that day, I Googled to see if there was an AI-based Excel formula generator and fortunately, didn’t find anything! At that moment, I knew I had something special!

With the AI industry growing rapidly, I knew I had to build quickly. There was no validation process to see if there would be a product market fit.
I’ve been working in marketing analytics for 12+ years and use Excel daily.
Everyone from data analysts to data scientists to CFOs and CEOs uses Excel.
There are 1 billion people that use Excel, so I knew there would be a big enough market for it.
At worst, I’d build a product for myself and work way faster and smarter than anyone else in spreadsheets!
David built a basic MVP without much functionality besides allowing users to enter instructions and get an Excel formula back.
He shared it on Reddit and the post went viral getting 11K upvotes…
I get the chills just thinking about it because it was such an incredible feeling knowing that all of that hard work wasn’t for nothing.
However, that viral launch resulted in a $4,000+ AI bill as the product was free to use early on 
So David quickly built out a full subscription-based website to cover costs.
He built the entire site himself using the no-code platform Bubble.io. This allowed him to avoid outsourcing costs.
Now, about a year into his journey, Formula Bot could well be making $30K in monthly recurring revenue 
And it started as a guy playing around with AI, looking for ways to boost his own productivity.
Surprisingly, David hasn’t spent much on marketing, relying heavily on influencer mentions and word of mouth growth fueled by the product’s virality since the early days.
He tweeted last October…
There’s a lot of social influencers that share products freely that are considered “productivity hacks,” especially [those] that have a free component (freemium/free trial).
David’s advice for other entrepreneurs…
It’s OK to be a copycat when it comes to web design. Don’t start from scratch.

On a recent episode of the My First Million podcast, Andrew shared his thoughts on the easiest way to make $500,000 a year if starting a business from scratch…
Around the 35-minute mark
If I lost everything and I didn’t have my Twitter subscribers, I would probably go start an agency… I think that is the easiest way to make $500,000 a year very very simply.
He advises focusing on a skill or service you already have experience with.
For example, Andrew got his start in design – he still owns a design agency called MetaLab that has worked with the likes of Slack, Google and Uber.
So a design agency would be his first choice to start 
While AI is making some agency services more competitive, Andrew contends there are still plenty of opportunities in this space.
I’d add that a way to gain a competitive advantage is to start locally in your own city or town.
Offering services that many local businesses could use gives you the ability to meet clients in person and pitch them directly, making them more likely to hire you over a distant, faceless competitor 
Even if you have minimal experience, just start where you are. Find a few businesses you can help in your area, provide value, build relationships, and expand from there.
Don’t worry about hiring people in the beginning: do as much as you can as a freelancer and only hire help when you find yourself close to capacity.

Mom of 6 Built a $6000/Month Online Tutoring Business

Side Hustle Nation has an interview with Nicole Whitworth, who started tutoring fellow nursing students while she was still in school.
After graduating, people kept reaching out for help, so she launched Your Nursing Tutor 
Nicole started out by offering individual tutoring sessions to nursing students online.
As demand grew, she created a course called The PASS Program which was an instant hit.
But a few years in, her site got hit by a Google algorithm update and traffic dried up overnight
Nicole tried different things over the next couple years to revive the business, all while raising 6 (!!!) kids at home. Eventually, she and her husband decided to pivot.
They shifted to a membership model and rebuilt the website around that 
The new membership offered…
Access to Nicole’s prerecorded nursing school contentWeekly live group tutoring sessions with NicoleA community of nursing studentsTo attract members, Nicole tried a bunch of things like being active in Facebook groups, doing webinars, and launched a podcast 
Nicole says a key to her success has been showing up “inconsistently consistently”… doing what she can, when she can, based on the constraints of raising a large family.
A huge turning point came when Nicole joined TikTok.
In just two weeks, she gained over 1,000 followers. One of her videos quickly went viral, generating 300+ email opt-ins overnight
More than a year later, that video has 228K views. Nicole had posted 20+ videos before, and it’s unclear why that particular video went viral. I guess you never know which video will pop off; it’s often a game of quantity over quality on social media.
Anyway, today Nicole’s TikTok has over 80,000 followers, delivering her a steady stream of leads.
Her membership is now $97/month but it was previously priced at $47/month. She has ~90 members, so her revenue there is likely $4000/month or more. (I’m assuming she kept older members on the original price plan.)
Nicole also has a couple of self-study programs that cost $97 a pop. Probably safe to say she’s generating another $2000/month from those programs (ie. 20 sales a month total)
Her tips for others….
It’s better to do a little bit over a long period of time than to try to wait for the day when you have all of the time to focus on it. – Because that day is probably never gonna come. – It’s never gonna come, it’s never to come.
You don’t have to do it the way everybody else does it. You don’t have to do it the way everybody else says you should do it. You just literally need to find what works for you. What’s gonna be your next best step forward? And then you just do that. And then you figure out your next best step after that and you do that

This 1 TikTok Video Increased Purchases 900%

Nathaniel Treichler runs Sleazy Greetings, an ecommerce store that sells funny and rude greeting cards 
He recently had this video go viral on TikTok (921k views in 72 hours)…
Shoutout to Sophie and Ben! Hope your day is filled with love, laughter, and sleaze.
Nathaniel writes about the impact that video had on his business…
our Amazon sessions, clicks, and purchases for the “Congrats” card featured in the video increased by roughly 900%… One hundred units sold out within a few hours.
The card featured in the video sells for $4.99 + shipping.
So they sold about $500 worth in the first few hours
But Nathaniel says “sales could have easily been much higher”…
At the time the video popped, we did not have enough followers to link our website to the TikTok profile page. I believe you’re able to link your website once you reach 1,000 followers, which we didn’t earn until later that day. So for the first 6 hours, nearly 300,000 potential customers were forced to leave the app to search “Sleazy Greetings” in their browsers to find our store. *Ouch
Also, we didn’t link the correct product from our TikTok store to the video nor was it even listed to the TikTok Shop. The only place to buy was on Etsy, Amazon, and our official website. *Double Ouch
That viral video came after some trial and error on TikTok
Our first videos did very poorly. We filmed anything and just published it without a real plan or overall message. In addition, our content was not edited well and took far too long to get to the entertainment.
Here’s an early video that only got ~200 views…

Then Nathaniel researched successful TikTok pages and noticed that reaction videos often did very well.
So…
I hired a team and decided to film reaction based content with one singular theme that’s easy to convey within 3 seconds – “react to this card.” Our products are naturally funny, offensive, divisive, and sassy – this can make for great content.
So our team started walking up to strangers on the street and asking them to “pick a card” out of a random box and give their unfiltered reaction. The box approach added a touch of mystery – I can thank ChatGPT for that idea.
The first video along those lines didn’t do great…
That’s likely because the intro wasn’t catchy enough.
The first 3 seconds of the viral video had a much better hook…
“Pull a random card out from this and I wanna get your immediate reaction.”

My main takeaway from his experience is the value of persistence and experimentation.
The first TikTok video for Sleazy Greetings was posted in November 2021.
They posted 100+ more videos, trying a bunch of different formats, before posting that first reaction video in May of this year.
They then posted another ~50 reaction videos before their big viral hit
Essentially, they followed Mr Beast’s famous recipe for success…
All you need to do… is make 100 videos and improve something every time
100 videos, 100 blog posts, 100 whatevers.
Persist and experiment, and you’ll eventually hit on a winner

Jungle Influencer aims to teach you how to make money online through the relatively new Amazon Influencer Program.
Being an Amazon Influencer involves posting video reviews of Amazon products and earning a commission when someone who watched your videos buys a product.
For example, let’s say you have a Ring Doorbell Camera…
You could create a 2-3 minute video about what you do and do like and answer frequently asked questions without being on camera.
Once uploaded, your video might show up in this section…
Generally speaking, if someone watches 30 seconds or more of your video and decides to buy a Ring or a similar product, Amazon will pay you a commission.
You can do this with products you own (even if you didn’t buy them on Amazon), friend’s products, and even free products you can get in exchange for your video review.

Should you join Jungle Influencer?
Jungle Influencer is one of the only Amazon Influencer courses on the market at this time. Matt does a good job of explaining concepts clearly and lays the foundation for getting started.
While the 7-day money-back guarantee is somewhat limiting IMO, it gives you just enough time to see if the model is a good fit.
Given that, I think Jungle Influencer is a good buy.

Connect publishers with niche experts that will fact check, proof read and sign off content, allowing the publisher to use their profile and credentials.
Have packages of 10, 50 and 100 articles starting from $99, have a 7 day turnaround.
Pay the expert 50%, find them on niche facebook groups or Upwork. Eventually you’ll build a database of experts who you can work with regularly.
What’s the market? Every publisher that isn’t using experts or using AI to write.

I like Joe’s idea
Think about friends or people in your area who are certified experts in something but struggle to monetize that expertise outside of traditional employment… probably lots of folks like that in the world 
If I were to give this a shot, I’d start with a niche I know well or have some connection to. I’d find one expert and match them with one publisher, monitor that connection, learn from it, then try it again.
It would be a lot of manual work at first but if all goes well you could eventually turn it into an online marketplace, where experts and publishers could sign up and find each other

The thought of spending over 10 hours transcribing it was daunting, prompting me to consider outsourcing the task. Most important is to focus on customer satisfaction. Prioritize understanding and meeting your customers’ needs. Provide exceptional customer service and continuously seek feedback to improve your products or services.

Esther Inman recently interviewed Lianamar Dávila …
Lianamar’s career took an unexpected turn in March 2020 when she was laid off from her job in event marketing due to the pandemic.
With her industry at a standstill, she knew she needed to pivot
On the advice of her sister, Lianamar enrolled in Esther’s 90 Day VA program (reviewed here) to become a virtual assistant. She binged the course modules and completed her homework, eager to start a new career.
Lianamar had 6 months of living expenses saved up, and found her first paying client after ~3 months 
That client had a “motorcycle enthusiast community.” LIanamar met her at a small dinner party and pitched her services. She ended up managing the website, social media and inbox for that business.
LIanamar ultimately niched down into social media management. She offered free services to build her portfolio, then began charging around $300/month.
Taking one step at a time, 2 years after starting as a VA, Lianamar had built her business into a six figure social media agency (Lidavi Social) with 9 clients and 7 team members 
Looks like she now charges $1997 per month to manage an Instagram account, with a minimum 3-month commitment
Lianamar credits her success to persistence and not giving up when things got tough.
She took it slow and steady, focusing on building long-term client relationships. For example, that first client stuck with her for nearly 2 years.
Lianamar’s advice for handling the stress of working for yourself…
I wanted to do things right and I think what led to that is not giving up. Because it does get effing hard. And when life and your business feels like it’s gonna just swallow you whole, maybe that means take a pause, take a beat, take a breather… literally, physically go outside and take a break.
She also comments on the versatility of a VA business…
If you are a little bit of a risk taker and want to bet on yourself, you appreciate freedom… you can really build and scale this to whatever you want. If you just want to have a couple of clients and that is what works for you – cool. If you want to scale to an agency and take the route that I did, cool.
So there are like so many different paths that you can take.

First, take whatever projects you can get starting out. You’ll learn a lot and it’ll help you build a portfolio.
