Hey, I’m Niall Doherty.
I quit my last 9-to-5 job back in 2010.
Since then, I’ve earned my living online in various ways. Over the last 3 years (through 2022) I’ve earned $536,000 from my laptop.
I’m on a mission to accurately rate and review all the best online business courses. My team and I are spending many hours investigating these courses and getting feedback from real students.
All that to say: we know a thing or two about such courses and making money online.
The Best Blogging Course? We’re on a mission to find the best blogging course based on feedback from real students and our own extensive research.
Unfortunately, Blogging Success Engine doesn’t make the top of our list…

How does Blogging Success Engine help you make money?
Blogging Success Engine aims to help you make money online by creating (or buying), growing, and selling content-based websites.
For example, you might buy a bass fishing blog generating $100/mo, apply SEO best practices, add more content, and flip it when it’s earning $200/mo.
A $100 monthly increase might not seem like much, but it makes a difference considering your site can sell for 20-40x monthly profit.
From the sales page…
Learn more about bloggingWho is Blogging Success Engine for?
Blogging Success Engine helps you learn how to use the blog content you’re creating to sell products and services so you can level up your online earnings…
You’ll learn how to earn how to grow your site’s traffic and income the RIGHT way based on what is actually working RIGHT NOW – from someone who has been doing this since 2005.
According to the website…
Blogging Success Engine is for both new and established bloggers, as well as affiliate website owners, and niche site owners…
[It’s] for bloggers who wanna take a hobby or a side hustle blog and scale it up to an income-producing business.
If you’re stuck on how to grow and scale your site, or just don’t even know where to get started, then Blogging Success Engine is for you.
From my experience, an advanced SEO might benefit from the golden nuggets of insider info scattered throughout the program. However, they won’t find thorough steps for executing the strategies mentioned.
So I think Blogging Success Engine is better suited for beginners seeking to get more familiar with the website flipping process.
70+ ways how to make money online (including easy options)Does Shawna Newman have a good reputation?Yes.
According to her website, SkipBlast, Shawna has been a full-time blogger since April 18, 2009. Since then, she’s had five-figure months and has sold numerous websites.
For example…

And I haven’t seen anyone say a bad word about her online, so I have no reason to doubt she’s the real deal.
Below is a video from Shawna’s YouTube channel so you can get a feel for her style…
Are Shawna Newman students getting results? It appears so.
I only found a handful of reviews showing earnings proof…

I would’ve liked to have seen more customer wins and success stories on Shawna’s sales pages.
That said, it’s still more proof than many popular courses out there.
How much does Blogging Success Engine cost?Blogging Success Engine has 3 pricing options…
$39 per month$99 per quarter$299 per yearRecommended additional costs include…
~$10 per year for a domain~$20 per month for hosting$59 per year for a WordPress theme called GeneratePress$59 per year for a website speed plugin called WP RocketSo if you were to go for the yearly option, it’d cost you about $700 total.
This is assuming you build sites from scratch without outsourcing content creation.
If you want to outsource content from the start, you’ll need a few thousand dollars.
And if you plan on buying websites, you’ll need $199 for Ahrefs and capital for acquisitions.
Blogging Success Engine Discount?I’ve searched high and low for a discount or coupon code for Blogging Success Engine but have yet to find mention of one anywhere. However, there is a place to enter one at checkout.
So it looks like you’ll have to pay full price if you want access.
Refund PolicyAccording to the sales page, Blogging Success Engine offers no refunds…
This is a digital product, so I do not offer refunds.
I’m not a fan of policies like this. There are many digital courses that offer an unconditional 30-day refund.
How is Blogging Success Engine structured?Blogging Success Engine is a bundle of courses.
Topics include…
Niche selectionSite flipping for buildersSite flipping for investorsAged domainsHelp A Reporter Out (HARO)Topic clustersMonetizationCompetitive analysisLink buildingYouTubeEach of the 10 courses I counted has about 4 modules containing 15 videos.
Blogging Success Engine is relatively new at the time of writing, and Shawna says she’ll be adding more…
10 Courses, 146 Lessons – and growing!..
I’ll be recording updates on case studies that I’ll share exclusively with members of Blogging Success Engine.
The videos are punchy, usually around 3-5 minutes, and powerpoint-style rather than over-the-shoulder. I find most students prefer action-based, step-by-step style screen recordings.
What a lesson looks like…

The lack of screen recordings doesn’t miss the mark as much as the lack of depth, IMO.
While videos are easily digestible, they don’t go deep into any topic. Instead, lessons serve more as overviews than actionable instructions.
But Shawna’s experience frequently shines through with tidbits of information you might not find elsewhere.
Plus, you get access to live monthly group training and a private community.
Take a look…

Here are a few things to like about Blogging Success Engine…
Fairly active private community.Decent training on blogging fundamentals.Tried and trusted business model.Shawna Newman walks her talk.No misleading marketing tactics.Red Flags
Some knocks on Blogging Success Engine…
Recurring fee to keep access to the training. No refunds.Lacking in-depth information.Lots of powerpoint-style videos; missing over-the-shoulder instruction. No mention on sales page of expenses beyond the price of the training.Other things you should knowA good way to think of Shawna’s training: She’s basically documented everything she does to build and flip her blogging websites successfully. When you join the course, you get access to some of that documentation. You’ll find a few handy downloads within the training, including checklists, cheat sheets, contracts, etc.👇 Subscribe to eBiz Insider 👇Every Tuesday and Friday we email 32,249 people like you with top tips, insights and opportunities to build your online business. Should you join Blogging Success Engine?
If you’re an aspiring website flipper, there’s a good chance you’ll find value inside Blogging Success Engine.
You won’t get tactical guidance on implementing processes, but you will gain insight and perspective from an industry veteran.
So I’d pass if you’re looking for something comprehensive.
But I’d say it’s a worthwhile investment if you’re looking to refine your blogging knowledge, get a high-level introduction to website flipping, or have access to a teacher with years of blogging experience.

26-Year-Old Earning $40,000/Month From Niche Sites

Published August 4, 2023 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty
Jamie I.F. runs Increasing.com and related niche sites that collectively earn $40,000 per month
Jamie doesn’t reveal his exact sites, but he did share in a recent interview that he monetizes via…
Affiliate commissionsDisplay adsDigital product salesSponsorshipsJamie started his first niche site in mid-2019 after graduating from university, having discovered SEO’s potential for free traffic during an internship in Paris
He wanted to start a social project helping feed the homeless in London but he couldn’t support it financially.
Then…
I turned to SEO and started niche sites as a last (and only) resort.
So, I just wrote and wrote and wrote, not knowing what affiliate marketing was: I just hoped I could make money from the ads.
Then, in late 2019, I discovered you could add Amazon affiliate links. The next day I made £15 from a sale!
From then I KNEW this was how I was going to get the £2M.
At only 26 years of age, you might think Jamie has achieved a high level of entrepreneurial success at a young age.
And he has, but not without paying his dues…
I tried and failed with my first business launch when I was 17, a streetwear line. We had 16K followers on Instagram back in 2014 but just couldn’t shift any merch – and I’d invested everything I had in it! And so I was NOT going to have the win stolen from me a second time around.
Jamie’s success with niche sites didn’t happen overnight either.
He tweets…
My niche site earnings:
Nov 2018 (age 21): $0
Nov 2019 (age 22): $150.95
Nov 2020 (age 23): $7,895.00
Nov 2021 (age 24): $36,547.00
Nov 2022 (age 25): $79,000.00
Do anything for long enough to learn the ropes and be rewarded for perseverance, and crazy things can happen
Jamie now operates his sites with a small team of freelancers while acting as the lead editor.
His advice for anyone starting out….
Just get started, and ignore the results for at least the short-to-medium term. If your process and product are excellent, the world will catch up.
It will take you at least 3,000 hours of repeated technician work to become excellent at almost anything, so be dogged, determined, and also curious: you can skip levels and ascend the learning curve faster by discovering new knowledge via experimentation.

The Most Useful Ability to Foster in Yourself
Nat Eliason tweets…
When a teenager asks why they need to learn calculus, what should you say?
You know they will never use it in adulthood, outside of certain career choices.
[…] But I recently realized there is a very good reason to take Calculus. It’s to prove you can do hard things.
The ability to do hard things is perhaps the most useful ability you can foster in yourself or your children. And proof that you are someone who can do them is one of the most useful assets you can have on your life resume.
Agreed.
Too often we look for shortcuts, the easy way out.
But intentionally pushing yourself to take on challenges – whether mastering calculus, running a marathon, or writing a novel – builds real mental muscle
It shapes your self-image and gives you confidence to take on new difficulties down the road.
Nat continues…
Our self-image is composed of historical evidence of our abilities. The more hard things you push yourself to do, the more competent you will see yourself to be.
If you can run marathons or throw double your body weight over your head, the sleep deprivation from a newborn is only a mild irritant.
If you can excel at organic chemistry or econometrics, onboarding for a new finance job will be a breeze.
On the flip side, avoiding hard things makes even minor obstacles seem impossible…
We’ll cry into TikTok over an errant period at the end of a text message. We’ll see ourselves as incapable of learning new skills, taking on new careers, and escaping bad situations.
If you don’t yet feel like a person who can do hard things, find ways to change that…
Build a habit, learn a skill, create something, whatever it is that turns your default stance on challenges from “that seems hard” to “I can figure it out.”

Quit His Job 9 Months Ago, Earned $34K Last Month

Published August 3, 2023 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty
Nick C was previously a designer earning $350k/year at Meta, but left his job to make a living online.
In the span of ~9 months, he went from being an employee to starting a cleaning business to starting an offshore talent agency to earning $34K in one month from a portfolio of small businesses
It unfolded like this…
Started a local house services business and gained a lot of experience in customer support, managing people, revenue generation, lead management, taxes and anything/everything about running a small business.
Took those learnings and saw that a well-trained offshore growth assistant could help me scale my home services business while I focus on other projects.
Within 1-2 months, I saw the assistant was beating my revenue targets and taking away all the stress related to running a business. This resulted in starting [my offshore talent agency], it took some time but my tenacity helped me close leads within the first month.
Nick emphasizes that this entrepreneurship thing is still fairly new to him…
Few months back I was a Lead Designer at Meta
With zero experience in:
– Running a Business
– Managing people outside of design/corporate environment
– Making $$$ outside 9-5
– Sales talk/pitch
– Customer management/retention
– Knew Stripe, but never used it!
– No idea what #buildinpublic was
– Struggled to assign work to others, I can do everything attitude (burn out on the horizon)
I still struggle with some of the things mentioned above, but I’m glad I started something out of my comfort zone!
Despite the growing pains, Nick reported earning about $34K total from his portfolio of small businesses in June, including
I know, that’s a lot.
I believe Nick has teamed up with other makers for some of those businesses.
But he still admits to burning out a few times…
I left Meta and dived right into indie hacking. I overworked to prove that I can replicate the same paycheck every month. Went through multiple burnouts within 2 months. Made $50,000 in revenue in 3 months from one project!
Entrepreneurship… such a rollercoaster
My main takeaway from Nick’s story: you can learn a lot in a few months.
Nick was a complete newbie to running his own business, but he worked his ass off to learn new skills and gain experience.
And now he has 3 different businesses earning him more than $6K per month
Put in the work consistently, and you too could be in a very different situation several months from now.

$12K/Month from Scottish Whisky Competitions

Published August 3, 2023 by Niall Doherty
Check out Scottish Whisky Competitions
It’s a site running whisky raffles. Some are free to enter, others cost £1 for a ticket ($1.27 USD).
They limit the tickets sold per raffle – usually 1000 – then pick a few winners on a Facebook livestream (recent example, may only be viewable in the UK).
The grand prize is usually a bottle of whisky worth £500+
So if you’re a whisky enthusiast you can pay £1 and have pretty good odds to win a high-end bottle of liquor.
Martin Punter is one of the owners of the site, met him at a conference in London a few weeks back.
He kindly shared some details and gave me permission to share with you…
Site does £8-12K monthly gross (about $10-15K USD).About £6K monthly profit ($7,600).4 owners including Martin.Fairly unique business model to the UK. Gambling laws in the USA are prohibitive. They regularly run free-to-enter raffles to get people on their email list. The goal is to get people on the livestream draws, then convince them to enter one of the paid giveaways.Usually several hundred views on each livestream. Martin on the advantages of this business model…
Running a competition website is a great way to monetise an audience around a niche interest or hobby.
Most competition sites use live streams to draw winners. The level of transparency helps build that connection and loyalty. Once you build trust with the community the lifetime value of a customer is insanely high.
Some other niches he thinks this could work well for
But it’s not all single casks and highballs…
The biggest downside is the cost to build a minimum viable audience to support running a giveaway. There is a big sunk cost in acquiring the initial base. Often running many competitions at a loss in order to build trust and social validation. Setting a guaranteed draw date regardless of ticket sales is essential to building and launching a new comp site.
And I often see new sites being too generic and not being niche enough!

$1500/Month from a 3-Year-Old Directory Site

Published July 31, 2023 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty
Hive Index is a directory of online communities.
The founder (Fed) recently tweeted…
Got the first site sponsor for @thehiveindex!
New revenue streams are always fun
The sponsor he is referring to is a site-wide sponsor. They pay $500/month for a banner link at the top of every page of the site (example).
Fed has been building Hive Index on and off since 2020 along with consulting as a software engineer.
He has been busy curating and adding communities to the site, tweeting back in June…
Just passed 2000 communities on @thehiveindex!
Not stopping yet, this site will be THE spot to discover online communities for ANY topic
Programmatic SEO has been key to growing traffic
But Fed had been working on the site for almost 3 years without really monetizing it.
In April he introduced a paid membership for community owners which allows them to have more control and traffic to their listings.
Looking at the site, there seem to be 50+ paid listings at $197/year, which was $10/month in earlier days. Either way, that’s $500-800/month.
Fed also offers community promotion, which costs $99/month.
So three ways he’s started monetizing…
Site sponsorshipGold Membership (for community owners)Community promotionOverall, I expect the site is now earning about $1500/month
Fed tweeted back in March…
Fun fact: @thehiveindex was a “warm-up” project
I built it just to get in the habit of taking ideas to completion
Without much intention to keep growing it, I launched after 2 weeks
Now it’s 2 years later and it’s stronger than ever, opening up new doors every day!
Funny how these kinds of projects can bear fruit if you stick with them long enough.

AI App for Podcasters: 5 Months to $10K/Month

Published July 31, 2023 by Fardeen KhanReviewed and edited by Niall Doherty
A few months back we featured the story of AudioPen, an app that converts voice notes into summarized text.…
No-Code GPT App: $15K in First MonthAudioPen’s limitations inspired this product idea
A good target market might be podcasters. Let them upload the audio of an episode, then give them back a transcription and a nicely formatted summary of the key points to post to their website
Turns out a guy named Tiago Ferreira had been building something similar for a couple months already.
Tiago tweets…
My co-founder @JOAOTHA and I just crossed a mythical indie milestone with @podsqueeze_app
![]()
$10K MRR!!
After 10 years of trying out different projects it feels completely unreal that everything can change in only 5 months
Podsqueeze is an AI tool that lets you upload your podcast audio and it automatically generates show notes, timestamps, newsletters and more.
It looks like they launched in February and got their first customer in early March…
My SaaS just got its first customer
Podsqueeze MRR is officially $35
Tiago shared how they’ve found customers for the app…
reddit, ai directories, twitter and email
Here’s a cold email Tiago sends that seems to be working well…
Hey there,
My name is Tiago, I am a podcaster and developer.
I created an AI based tool to help podcasters repurpose their audio content and generate titles, show notes, timestamps, posts, mentions, etc… All with just one click.
You can try it for free at podsqueeze.com
Can PodSqueeze be helpful for your work?
Looking forward to hearing from you,
Tiago
And I should emphasize again: 5 months to $10k/month is not the full story here.
Tiago broke through with Podsqueeze “after 10 years of trying out different projects”
He tweeted about a year ago…
It is extremely hard to abstract myself from the fact that I am not making enough MRR to pay the bills…

$149 Revenue From a 1-Hour Amazon Product

Published July 31, 2023 by Fardeen Khan
In a recent video, Mark Tilbury challenged himself to build and publish a book on Amazon in under an hour …
3 rules for the challenge…
Don’t write anything in the book.Do it completely from his laptop.Finish in under 1 hour.He used Book Bolt, an easy-to-use software for creating books (they have a 3-day free trial).
After researching popular and profitable niches, Mark settled on creating a planner, which sells well year-round
He picked a minimalist style…
I’m on a time limit so you get the idea. I’m sure you could probably make it look nicer but as I said computer design isn’t my strong suit. At least you know if this sells, then yours will probably do better.
Then Mark listed it on Amazon KDP which does print on demand, so he didn’t have to pay anything upfront
The book took 72 hours to get approved for sale on Amazon.
Then…
Zero sales the first 3 days.First sale on the fourth day. After 2 weeks, 10 books sold for $149 total revenue. However, after Amazon fees and the Book Bolt subscription, Mark pocketed only $26.91 in profit
But the takeaway here is not the money he made – or the lack of it – but how quick and easy Mark was able to create a product and list it for sale online.
How about trying something like this yourself over the weekend?
Do some keyword research, get ChatGPT to help you with the title and description, then upload your book to Amazon and Etsy.
Leave it for a while and let the algorithms and search engines do their work
You’re unlikely to make a ton of money, though it could turn into a nice little passive income stream.
More importantly, you’ll have taken action and created a real product that people can buy online.
That’s more than most folks ever do
Keep in mind these words from Zig Ziglar…
You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.

Tiny Nerdy Website Earning $10,000 Per Month

Published July 31, 2023 by Niall DohertyContributor: Fardeen Khan
Lose the Very is a simple website that helps improve your writing
For example, type in something like very happy, hit a button, and it gives you a concise alternative: elated.
The first email from the site’s newsletter gives us a bit of background…
Lose the Very was started in December 2020, after Connor watched a viral YouTube video about how the word ‘very’ is a very lazy word lol.
Connor = Connor Callahan, who was only 20 years old when he launched the site
I’m guessing this is the YouTube video he’s referring to…
The site is mainly monetized with display ads.
In December 2022, Chase Dimond acquired 50% of the site and tweeted that the revenue was…
Low to mid 4 figures per month
So something like $3000/month at that point
Then Chase reported that they made some changes…
We added email capture to the website around the time I bought it and now around 5 days later, we’ve collected 1,612 emails.
We’ll collect 5k-10k emails per month.
3 months later Chase tweeted…
Since Dec 23rd, 2022, we’ve:
– Had 657,000 site visits
– Collected 36,982 email addresses
– 3x’ed monthly revenue
So revenue must have been about $9000/month then.
And I suspect it’s well over $10K/month by now
Looks like they’ve boosted monetization via the newsletter, where they promote different products and services (some their own, some affiliate).
At this point you’re probably wondering like I was: where is all their traffic coming from?
Chase tweeted back in December…
The site gets anywhere from 100,000 to 400,000 visits per month.
That’s very impressive inspiring for such a small site, especially one that few people are likely finding via Google Search
And it indeed seems that the bulk of their traffic comes via social.
A popular YouTuber named Valkyrae tested out the site on a live stream several months back and a 20-second clip has racked up millions of views …
The site has also had lots of mentions on Reddit and TikTok.
I suspect they’re paying for some of those mentions on TikTok at least.
But much of the attention seems to be organic.
I guess it’s one of those ideas that people like to talk about. And I can imagine grammar nerds linking to the site in passive aggressive comments online
And to think it all began because some 20-year-old dude watched a short video.
Funny how inspiration can strike at any moment

Cramming On A Farm
From Stephen Covey’s classic book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People…
To focus on technique is like cramming your way through school. You sometimes get by, perhaps even get good grades, but if you don’t pay the price day in and day out, you never achieve true mastery of the subjects you study or develop an educated mind.
Did you ever consider how ridiculous it would be to try to cram on a farm—to forget to plant in the spring, play all summer and then cram in the fall to bring in the harvest? The farm is a natural system. The price must be paid and the process followed. You always reap what you sow; there is no shortcut.
This principle is also true, ultimately, in human behavior, in human relationships. They, too, are natural systems based on the law of the harvest.
I’d say the principle is also true in entrepreneurship.
Anyone can get lucky and make a nice chunk of money in one go, but your goal should be to become the type of person who can build a successful business in any economy.
That’s true mastery, and with it comes some serious peace of mind
