Am I an Author ALL the time?
Just back from a music festival having spent four days determined to kill my liver and stomach with excesses of alcohol and naughty food!
During this time, I was aware of at least half a dozen women who would bring a book into the music tent and read while various bands played and drunken festival goer's danced around them, which I found an amazing achievement!
I was fascinated by this.
I took my book, but never felt any inclination to read. Neither did my husband, (who took my latest book!)
Whilst watching these ladies of various ages, I began to ponder if authors are ever 'off duty'? I noticed I'd hone in on the readers, checking out the book cover and fantasise about how I'd feel if I'd discovered they were reading one of mine!??
'Don't you ever switch off?' asked my husband.
And he was right to ask, because, do I? Does any author, musician, Artist? Are we continually looking to see if the public are enjoying our creations?
I think I am.

The perils of Amazon and Pirates
Where Rivers Meet
So, firstly WHOOOHOOOO!! My fifth supernatural novel, Where Rivers Meet came out yesterday.

Abigail Lloyd is a talented, grief-stricken young artist who returns to the Welsh village where she had spent many happy years with her beloved Nan. A home where she had always felt loved and safe. Cain is in love with a woman he knows he can never possess. He has watched her grow into a beautiful young woman, but in his harsh world, he knows she would never survive. Set among the Welsh mountains and the ruthless reality of the 19th century copper mines where life is in the hands of the elements and injury, and starvation and death are stark reminders of the time.

And secondly, I noticed only hours after it had been published, Amazon was allowing a third party, a pirate, to offer my brand new book as 'used' for an extra 50p!?
Firstly, HOW? It hadn't been printed anywhere. It was as new as a baby, so how the hell could it be 'USED'?
Secondly, WHY? Why does Amazon allow these pirates to sell MY book that I had spent months creating for your pleasure for ridiculous amounts of money = £10.46 + £2.60 postage??????????
Thirdly, WHY? Would anyone buy from these pirates when they can have the proper book, created by me for the decent price of £9.99.
Please please please consider your local bookshops, B&N, Blackwells, Waterstones.
Amazon are evil.

You know that moment just before something exciting and wonderful happens. Like a fairground ride. You know the thrill is coming, you feel the anticipation and thoroughly enjoy the experience.
That moment when all the edits are finished. You and the editor have gone over every page about a million times (feels like it anyway!!) to find that one correction or change a sentence so it flows better or notice that snippet that doesn't quite work with the story and then, finally, after weeks of reading, corrections, more reading, more corrections, more reading...I could go on!!
It is finally ready. That moment when you both agree it is as perfect as a human can make it. It came from an idea in my head and look...There it is...My new novel.
Where Rivers Meet is at that point. It is ready. It is primed. It is queuing for it's turn to move off onto the fairground ride. I am sitting in my seat, feeling the adrenaline, the rush, the excitement, the anticipation.

Here's the thing. I as the author of this book, that took weeks of editing, planning, sorting, collaborating, writing the stories gets 29p. Yes, that's right, less than what it costs to buy a packet of malteasers! Milk for your coffee or bread for your toast.
Readers assume we're rich and live lifestyles of the eccentric with a wine glass dangling from our fingers, a cigarette perched precariously between our lips whilst staring at the words in front of us, blubbing over how 'bloody good' it is!!
Not so, or at least, not me anyway, or any of my author colleagues.
We sit as often as is possible and work on the next story, the next novel which can take days, weeks, months, even years of struggle and strife to get it absolutely perfect, for you, the readers to gain enjoyment, be delighted, to be emotionally pulled in all directions, to be entertained.
It is our gift to you.

Visited Llanfyllyn Workhouse the other day - a gentle haunting during the hours of daylight, it would be interesting to return with a nightly paranormal group - watch this space!
I need five more locations that would be willing to allow me access for a few hours, day or night to investigate the building's characters and relay my experiences.
