The Second Republican Debate Is A Dumpster Fire As Moderators Lose Control

The second Republican presidential debate is so poorly produced and moderated that a bunch of candidates who are desperate to get to 10% in the polls are out of control and running wild.

Here are Tim Scott and Vivek Ramaswamy yelling at each other with all of the other candidates joining in:

Vivek Ramaswamy is getting pummeled by the other candidates on China, as this debate has fallen apart with the candidates yelling at each other. #GOPDebate pic.twitter.com/pDkV7RGEwc

— Sarah Reese Jones (@PoliticusSarah) September 28, 2023

Chris Christie eventually started ignoring the other candidates and talking directly to Donald Trump through the camera:

The #GOPDebate is so far gone that Chris Christie is ignoring other candidates and talking to Trump, “I know you’re watching. You’re not here tonight not because of polls and not because of your indictments. You’re not here tonight because you’re afraid of being on this stage.” pic.twitter.com/NvvL3GjrGk

— Sarah Reese Jones (@PoliticusSarah) September 28, 2023

I have no evidence to support this suspicion, but I suspect that once Fox realized that Trump wasn’t showing up again, they mailed it in.

The debate itself has been dull and uneventful. The candidates are clearly desperate. None of them currently have any chance of beating Donald Trump, and it is unclear what they are trying to accomplish with the interruptions and constant attacks.

None of the people on stage at the Ronald Reagan Library will ever be the president or vice president.

If history is any indication, there will be a substantial ratings drop for this debate, which gives Fox no excuse for such a poorly produced event.

The debate is out of control, and even in an out-of-control state, its biggest crime is that it is not interesting and will likely have zero impact on a Republican primary election that is being dominated by a guy who is facing 91 felony charges.

AI Agents: Adapting to the Future of Software Development

In the near future, AI agents like Pixie from GPTConsole, Codeinterpreters from OpenAI, and many others are poised to revolutionize the software development landscape. They promise to supercharge mundane coding tasks and even autonomously build full-fledged software frameworks. However, their advanced capabilities bring into question the future role and relevance of human developers.

As these AI agents continue to proliferate, their efficiency and speed could potentially diminish the unique value human developers bring to the table. The rapid rise of AI in coding could alter not just the day-to-day tasks of developers but also have long-term implications for job markets and educational systems that prepare individuals for tech roles. Nick Bostrom raises two key challenges with AI.

The first, called the ‘Orthogonality Thesis,’ suggests that an AI can be very smart but not necessarily share human goals. The second, known as the ‘Value Loading Problem,’ highlights how difficult it is to teach an AI to have human values. Both these ideas feed into a more significant issue, the ‘Problem of Control,’ which concerns the challenges of keeping these increasingly smart AIs under human control.

If not properly guided, these AI agents could operate in ways that are misaligned with human objectives or ethics. These concerns magnify the existing difficulties in effectively directing such powerful entities.

Despite these challenges, the incessant launch of new AI agents offers an unexpected silver lining. Human software developers now face a compelling need to elevate their skillsets and innovate like never before. In a world where AI agents are rolled out by the thousands daily, the emphasis on humans shifts towards attributes that AI can’t replicate—such as creative problem-solving, ethical considerations, and a nuanced understanding of human needs.

Rather than viewing the rise of AI as a threat, this could be a seminal moment for human ingenuity to flourish. By focusing on our unique human strengths, we might not just coexist with AI but synergistically collaborate to create a future that amplifies the best of both worlds. This sense of urgency is heightened by the exponential growth in technology, captured by Ray Kurzweil’s “Law of Accelerating Returns.”

Biological EvolutionSimple forms to Complex forms: Billions of yearsComplex forms to Humanoids: Hundreds of millions of yearsCultural EvolutionHunter-gatherers to Agricultural societies: Thousands of yearsAgricultural societies to Industrial societies: A few centuriesLanguage EvolutionPictographic languages to Alphabetic languages: Thousands of yearsAlphabetic languages to Digital languages (internet): DecadesTechnology EvolutionWalking to Horse Riding: Thousands of yearsHorse Riding to Cars: A few centuriesInformation TechnologyMainframe computers to Personal computers: DecadesPersonal computers to Smartphones: Less than a decadeGenetic and Biomedical TechnologyEarly DNA sequencing to First complete human genome: DecadesFirst complete human genome to Rapid and affordable genome sequencing: Few yearsAI in Natural Language Processing1.5 billion parameters (GPT-2, 2019) to 175 billion parameters (GPT-3, 2020): Increased by more than 100 times in just one yearAI in Image RecognitionError rates fell from above 25% (2011) to below 3% (2017): Decreasing errors by more than eight times in six yearsAI in Game PlayingFrom human-trained AI winning Go championship (AlphaGo, 2016) to AI teaching itself to master Go, chess, and shogi (AlphaZero, 2017): Significant jump in autonomous learning ability in just one year

The ‘Law of Accelerating Returns’ by Ray Kurzweil intensifies the urgency, indicating that AI advancements will not only continue but accelerate, drastically shortening our time to adapt and innovate. The idea is simple: advancements aren’t linear, but accelerate over time.

For instance, simple life forms took billions of years to evolve into complex ones, but only a fraction of that time to go from complex forms to humanoids. This principle extends to cultural and technological changes, like the speed at which we moved from mainframe computers to smartphones. Such rapid progress reduces our time to adapt, echoing human developers’ need to innovate and adapt swiftly. The accelerating pace not only adds weight to the importance of focusing on our irreplaceable human attributes but also amplifies the urgency of preparing for a future dominated by intelligent machines.

The “Law of Accelerating Returns” not only predicts rapid advancements in AI capabilities, but also suggests a future where AI becomes an integral part of scientific discovery and artistic creation. Imagine an AI agent that could autonomously design new algorithms, test them, and even patent them before a human developer could conceptualize the idea. Or an AI that could write complex music compositions or groundbreaking literature, challenging the very essence of human creativity.

This leap could redefine the human-AI relationship. Humans might transition from being ‘creators’ to ‘curators,’ focusing on guiding AI-generated ideas and innovations through an ethical and societal lens. Our role may shift towards ensuring that AI-derived innovations are beneficial and safe, heightening the importance of ethical decision-making and oversight skills.

Yet, there’s also the concept of “singularity,” where AI’s abilities surpass human intelligence to an extent where it becomes unfathomable to us. If this occurs, our focus will pivot from leveraging AI as a tool to preparing for an existence where humans are not the most intelligent beings. This phase, while theoretical, imposes urgency on humanity to establish an ethical framework that ensures AI’s goals are aligned with ours before they become too advanced to control.

This potential shift in the dynamics of intelligence adds another layer of complexity to the issue. It underlines the necessity for human adaptability and foresight, especially when the timeline for such dramatic changes remains uncertain.

So, we face a paradox: AI’s rapid advancement could either become humanity’s greatest ally in achieving unimaginable progress or its biggest existential challenge. The key is in how we, as a species, prepare for and navigate this rapidly approaching future.

Halloween Display Showing Jesus Decapitated Sparks Protests In New Orleans | The Gateway Pundit

A controversial Halloween display that depicts Satan holding a decapitated head of Jesus has sparked protests in New Orleans.

Vic Miorana of Bucktown which is part of the New Orleans Metropolitan area, has members of his community in an uproar after he raised a two-story display of a bloodied Jesus decapitated on the cross in his front yard.

After receiving calls to take down the display Miorana refused and said “It’s over the principle. I have my rights and I refuse to back down.”

He continued  “Religious churches and things scare people, they make you uncomfortable and they pull a different reaction, but it’s nothing you don’t see in a scary movie, video games or a haunted house.”

In response to Miorana refusing to take down his display many members of churches all over Louisiana have been protesting outside of his house.

Per NOLA:

Vic Miorana of Bucktown begins mapping out his Halloween decorations months in advance, spending thousands of dollars and countless hours carving tombstones, creating bloody organs and molding creepy masks.

Six weeks before the holiday, this year’s work has already hit a nerve. That’s because towering over his yard is a two-story display of a blood-stained Satan holding the severed head of Jesus above a crucifix where the rest of His bloodied body hangs.

For Miorana, the scene is an attempt to delve into the holiday’s scarier side. But the display has provoked outrage from some neighbors who say he has crossed the line from spooky to blasphemous.

Despite threats and complaints from nearby residents, Miorana said he will not remove the display.

iPhone 15 Pro may be overheating due to thermal system compromises

Reports of the new iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max overheating could come down to thermal system compromises, according to one prominent analyst.

There have been a not insignificant smattering of reports over the past week from disgruntled iPhone 15 Pro buyers, claiming that some of these £999-and-upwards phones are running a little toasty. We’re talking ‘ouch that’s hard to a hold’ hot.

According to a new Medium post from renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, this has nothing to do with Apple’s new A17 Pro chip, which is the first mobile processor built using a smaller 3nm process.

Kuo has surveyed his production line sources, and has concluded that “the primary cause is more likely the compromises made in the thermal system design to achieve a lighter weight, such as the reduced heat dissipation area and the use of a titanium frame, which negatively impacts thermal efficiency”.

In other words, Apple has stripped away useful layers and means of cooling in pursuit of the iPhone 15 Pro line’s much remarked-upon lighter design.

Kuo expects Apple to address these overheating reports through software updates, though he states that improvements may be limited unless the company is willing to lower the chip’s clock rate. In which case, the A17 Pro wouldn’t end up providing quite the performance bump that Apple claimed at its September 12 launch event.

It’ll be interesting to see how the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max cope when Resident 8 Village lands on October 30. It’ll be the first of several console-quality games to arrive as Pro-exclusives, and you can bet your bottom dollar they’ll all place that A17 Pro chip under considerable and sustained load.

CVS Pharmacy to Close 900 Stores by the End of 2024, Citing Shoplifting as Major Problem | The Gateway Pundit

The CVS pharmacy chain has announced that it is closing 900 stores by the end of 2024, citing shoplifiting as a major issue.

This news comes at the same time that Target has announced the closure of nine stores for similar reasons.

The Daily Mail reports:

CVS says it will close NINE HUNDRED stores by the end of 2024 – 10% of all its shops – as it moves to online strategy amid rampant increase in shoplifting

CVS is set to close hundreds of stores across the country as it undergoes a complete retail overhaul – as more outlets move towards online sellers amid rampant increases in crime.

The major drugstore chain is coming to the end of a policy launched in 2021 which will see 300 stores closed each year – meaning 900 will have shuttered by 2024.

In the announcement, which has hit headlines again recently amid rampant shoplifting at the chain, bosses they said that they were undergoing a new ‘retail footprint strategy.’

CVS and other retailers across the US continue to adjust to post-pandemic footfall, with COVID helping turbocharge the popularity of online shopping.

More shoppers are turning to buying online in the wake of the pandemic, as well as rocketing levels of shoplifting affecting sales in stores.

CVS claims that ‘local market dynamics, population shifts, and a community’s store density’ are some of the aspects it has looked into when deciding which stores to shutter.

Once again, criminals are making life worse for other people.

CVS is closing 10% of its stores because of theft!

I’ll tell you as a retailer in NYC—it’s not people stealing bread because they’re hungry. These are coordinated and organized criminals wreaking havoc.

Some American cities are going to become retail deserts eventually, and it’s all because of weak leaders who won’t prosecute crime.

Tucker Carlson Gives Speech on Abortion: ‘This is Not a Political Debate. This is a Spiritual Battle’ (VIDEO) | The Gateway Pundit

Tucker Carlson recently gave a speech on abortion at a conservative organization called the Center for Christian Virtue.

In his typical relaxed style, Carlson framed the issue in a historical context as a form of human sacrifice.

He also made it personal, describing the events that led him to leave the Episcopal Church.

The Blaze reports:

Tucker Carlson unleashes on the abortion regime, stressing its business is the ancient ‘sin’ of child sacrifice: ‘This is not a political debate. This is a spiritual battle’

Tucker Carlson unleashed righteous fury on the abortion regime in America during a recent address to Christians, stressing that anyone who advocates for the slaughter of the unborn “is your enemy” and that the practice of abortion is an evil “religious rite” that is “as old as time.”

The Center for Christian Virtue, a religious conservative outfit that advocates for public policies reflective of “the truth of the Gospel,” hosted Tucker Carlson for its gala in Cleveland, Ohio, on Sept. 21…

Carlson noted that human sacrifice, ritual child sacrifice in particular, “rears its head about every four chapters. … Of all the sins the ancients committed, that sin, every single time it’s described, is called detestable, at least in the [Revised Standard Version].”

In virtually every instance, Carlson suggested the terms of the sacrifice were more or less clear: In exchange for the annihilation of innocence and innocents, the bloodied perpetrators would receive “power and contentment and happiness.”

“Every civilization on the face of the earth has engaged in it. … The archaeological record tells us that human sacrifice, the sacrifice of children, the killing of children, is the one constant in human civilization,” continued Carlson.

Tucker’s argument on this issue is so solid. He makes it easy to agree with him.
