OnePlus 12 vs OnePlus 12R: What’s the difference?

OnePlus has just revealed the OnePlus 12 and the all-new OnePlus 12R, but what’s the difference?

While the OnePlus R branding may be new to us in the US and Europe, it’s an established brand in India and China, representing a more budget-friendly alternative to the full-fat flagship. It seems that’s indeed the case with the OnePlus 12R, sporting a solid – but not quite high-end – experience with a more budget-friendly price tag than the flagship OnePlus 12.

We’ve fully reviewed the OnePlus 12 and spent some time with the OnePlus 12R too. With that in mind, here are some of the key differences between the two.

The OnePlus 12 is more powerful

Despite the OnePlus 12R being framed as a performance-focused smartphone ideal for gamers, it doesn’t actually boast the most powerful tech of the two smartphones.

More specifically, the OnePlus 12R sports the (still very capable) Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the 2023 flagship chipset, while the OnePlus 12 boasts the upgraded Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. OnePlus claims that there’s a 30% boost to CPU speeds and 25% to GPU performance compared to the 8 Gen 2 within the OnePlus 11, so it’s safe to assume that it’s very similar compared to the OnePlus 12R.

However, in benchmarking, we’ve found that the OnePlus 12 doesn’t score much more highly than last year’s OnePlus 11 despite the inclusion of the newer chipset, so it could be that performance is still in line with the OnePlus 12R in real-world use. We’re yet to benchmark the 12R, but we’ll be sure to update this once we do.

Elsewhere, the OnePlus 12 comes with either 12- or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256- or 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage, while the OnePlus 12R comes with 8- or 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage or 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage depending on the variant you go for.

OnePlus 12 on a table, face-downImage Credit (Trusted Reviews)The OnePlus 12R has the latest in LTPO technology

One rather odd distinction between the OnePlus 12 and the OnePlus 12R is LTPO.

For those unaware, LTPO tech allows the screen to refresh dynamically, with the LTPO 3 used by the OnePlus 12 as well as most current flagships, including the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, offering the ability to drop down to as little as 1Hz depending on what you’re up to. This should have the dual effect of being more responsive and more battery efficient than a locked 120Hz refresh rate.

The OnePlus 12R, however, is one of the first smartphones to offer the latest LTPO 4 technology. The biggest difference is that the dynamic refresh rate adjustment is, well, more dynamic this time around, with the screen able to switch to either 60-, 72- or 90Hz depending on the speed of the user’s swipe, while a rapid scroll will dial it up to 120Hz. The result should be even smoother, more battery-efficient performance.

That doesn’t mean the OnePlus 12R has the best screen overall however; despite the LTPO 4 tech, the regular OnePlus 12 boasts a higher resolution and support for more HDR formats, and it’s a little larger too. Both do cap out at the same impressive 4500nits max brightness, however, an impressive feat in the smartphone industry at large.

The OnePlus 12 has better cameras

If your focus is on smartphone photography, the OnePlus 12 is undoubtedly the smartphone to go for. It boasts a pretty big year-on-year improvement compared to the OnePlus 11, sporting a larger 50MP sensor (the same as that of the OnePlus Open) with a faster f/1.6 aperture that translates to great performance in both well-lit and low-light scenarios.

There’s also a new 64MP 3x periscope lens that offers solid zoom performance up to the 10x mark, and that’s flanked by a 48MP 114-degree ultrawide, making the OnePlus 12 a versatile snapper in everyday use.

The OnePlus 12R, being focused more on performance, has let camera tech slide to the wayside. That’s not to say the 50MP main sensor isn’t without its merit, sporting a 1/1.56-inch sensor and f/1.8 aperture, but it’s flanked by a paltry 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro lens.

We’re yet to fully dive into the camera prowess of the 12R, but going by specs alone, it seems like the regular OnePlus 12 has it in the bag.

OnePlus 12R back cameraOnePlus 12R back cameraImage Credit (Trusted Reviews)Both offer speedy 100W SuperVOOC charging

Regardless of the smartphone you go for, you’ll be treated to the same 100W SuperVOOC charging, and the fast charger comes in the box too. That means that the 5400mAh battery of the OnePlus 12 and 5,500mAh battery of the OnePlus 12R shouldn’t take that long to charge.

Though it’s not the very fastest around, it’s not that far off, and we’ve seen in our OnePlus 12 testing that it can regain a full charge in just 26 minutes. We’re yet to test the 12R, but given that there’s only a 100mAh difference between the two smartphones, it’s likely to be quite similar, if not nearly identical.

The OnePlus 12R is much cheaper

The OnePlus 12 is a full-fat flagship with a price tag to match; in fact, starting at £849/$799, it’s £130/$100 more than last year’s £729/$699 OnePlus 11.

The OnePlus 12R is more of a budget-friendly affair, starting at a more palatable £649/$599 which could make it a tempting alternative to the likes of the Google Pixel 8 or Nothing Phone (2) for those on the hunt for a new smartphone.

Both are up for pre-order right now, with the OnePlus 12 due for release on 6 February, while the OnePlus 12R is set to be released on 13 February.

The Failing ‘Daily Show’ Bringing Back Leftist Hero Jon Stewart One Night a Week for Election Season | The Gateway Pundit

The ratings-challenged ‘Daily Show’ is bringing back Jon Stewart to host the show for one night a week during the 2024 election.

This is such an obvious move and it serves two purposes. First, leftists might start watching the Daily Show again. Second, Stewart will be used to bash Trump, Republicans, FOX News, and all things conservative. Just like he did for years as the host of the show.

It’ll be the same old, tired jokes that Colbert and Kimmel have been telling for years now.

NBC News reports:

Jon Stewart returns to ‘The Daily Show’

Longtime viewers of “The Daily Show” will soon see a familiar face back in the hosting chair. Jon Stewart, who hosted the show from 1996 to 2015, will return to the program, NBC News has confirmed.

The news comes after more than a year of uncertainty in the search to replace Trevor Noah, who just took home an Emmy for best variety talk series. The comedian exited in 2022 after hosting for seven years. He had taken over from Stewart.

Stewart will host Monday nights through the 2024 election and then will continue as executive producer for every episode until the end of this year and the next, according to a news release from Comedy Central. On days Stewart is not hosting, “The Daily Show” will continue to rely on a team of rotating correspondents.

John Nolte of Breitbart News makes some great points about this:

FACT: The Daily Show was never popular. Jon Stewart has never been popular. Stewart’s ratings were a joke, even at the height of his popularity. But because Jon Stewart says what he’s told to say and pretends to be a truth teller as he pimps out his integrity to protect the fascist establishment, the establishment rewarded him by creating an artificial environment that presented Stewart as a national phenomenon — even though less than one percent of the population watched his Daily Show.

Without that affirmative action, Stewart cannot survive, which is why he flamed out at Apple TV+ and HBO. Stewart is nothing close to popular and has nothing close to a following. The only time most of us saw Stewart was when the fake news media ran his clips over and over and over again as propaganda.

This is why Stewart is being brought back. The left sees him as a political weapon and that’s how he will be used.

One of world’s largest water utility company hit by ransomware attack

Water giant Veolia North America has confirmed it was hit by a ransomware attack, resulting in the loss of some personal data and the need to take part of its infrastructure system offline.

Worldwide, the Veolia group has almost 213,000 employees and reported €42.9 billion in revenue in 2022, providing drinking water to around 111 million people and other services to roughly 97 million.

The multinational environmental solutions company, which provides energy, waste, and water solutions to around 550 communities and 100 industrial facilities across the United States and Canada — issued a press release detailing the incident last week.

Veolia provided information on the cyber attack concentrated on its Municipal Water division. This prompted a rapid response from its IT and security staff, in partnership with law enforcement and other authorities, to investigate the strike.

The statement explained how the company’s targeted back-end systems and servers were taken offline until they could be restored safely, with a knock-on effect on online bill payment systems. Still, they stressed the systems are fully operational once again.

“Customers will not be penalized for late payments or charged interest on their bills due to this service interruption,” said Veolia.

Ongoing investigation

It has identified a limited number of individuals whose personal information was potentially impacted. The firm has pledged to contact those affected directly to provide assistance and additional information on the serious incident.

The study will be continued in partnership with a third-party forensics contractor to gather further information and work on preventative measures in the future.

Due to the nature of a ransomware attack, it is likely the perpetrators demanded some kind of ransom in return for the information. Still, no details have been provided on the identity of those believed to be involved, the attack’s source, or the hackers’ demands.

Journalist Glenn Greenwald Destroys the Leftist Narrative That January 6th Was a Coup (VIDEO) | The Gateway Pundit

Glenn Greenwald is not a conservative, not even close in fact, but he is an honest journalist.

During a recent panel discussion for Zero Hedge, Greenwald absolutely destroyed the Democrat/media narrative about January 6th being an attempted coup.

Greenwald uses logic and the true definition of words to systematically dismantle every claim of the left. It’s just brutal.

Townhall reported:

Glenn Greenwald Brutally Eviscerates All the Narratives Peddled By the Left About January 6

The latest narrative Greenwald is trying to exorcise from the souls of liberals is that January 6 was an attempted coup, armed rebellion, or an insurrection. It’s an emphatic no on all fronts. Joe Biden is president, the military was not deployed, and Trump left willingly. All of the characteristics of a traditional coup d’état are absent, and the former Guardian journalist slaps down all the points made by liberals Destiny and the Krassenstein brothers, Ed and Brian.

If there is one critique of Greenwald, which could be viewed as a positive or a negative, maybe he shouldn’t agree to participate in some of these debates. This one, held on January 7, had Alex Jones on the panel. It was a ZeroHedge debate, which is an interesting site, though one which, at times, veers into territory that’s out there. But this is America, and we have free speech. And I tip my cap to Greenwald for not being afraid to discuss any issue with anyone.

Someone clipped Greenwald shredding all the points made by the Krassensteins and Destiny, aka Steven Kenneth Bonnell, a video game streamer, by photoshopping bruises and cuts on their faces every time Greenwald delivered a counterpunch:

Watch the video, this is great.

Glenn Greenwald calmly explains to Destiny and the Krassensteins that January 6th wasn’t an insurrection, and Donald Trump did not attempt a coup.

Netflix secures WWE Raw deal for $5 billion

Netflix has secured the rights to air WWE’s Raw on its platform from January 2025.

In a statement on the company’s website, the streaming giant reveals a long-term partnership with WWE’s flagship program, exclusively available in the US, Canada, UK and Latin America. It will be the first time Raw has not aired on linear television since its inception 31 years ago.

The world’s largest streaming platform has also agreed to the rights to become the new home for all WWE shows and specials outside of the US, including weekly shows Smackdown and NXT, and Premium Live Events such as WrestleMania, SummerSlam and Royal Rumble.

The partnership will run for 10 years and is worth more than $5 billion.

WWE legend and current Chief Content Officer of the company, Triple H, endorsed the announcement on X by saying: “This partnership is one that will break new ground and take @WWE to new heights. Thrilled to bring #WWERaw to @Netflix, coming January 2025. Now we change the game!”

Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, Bela Bajaria, said: “We are excited to have WWE Raw, with its huge and passionate multigenerational fan base, on Netflix.

“By combining our reach, recommendations, and fandom with WWE, we’ll be able to deliver more joy and value for their audiences and our members. Raw is the best of sports entertainment, blending great characters and storytelling with live action 52 weeks a year and we’re thrilled to be in this long-term partnership with WWE.”

Comcast paid about $265 million a year for the rights to Raw in 2018, but the owner of NBC Universal acquired the rights to Smackdown, considered the second-best WWE package, for about $287 million a year in 2023.

WWE Raw is coming to Netflix!

— WWE (@WWE) January 23, 2024

This announcement comes just hours before Netflix is expected to report its fourth quarter 2023 earnings.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson joins TKO board

Finally. The Rock has come back to WWE…well not exactly WWE, but their parent company the TKO group. Yes that’s right, as if wrestling fans hadn’t had enough big news today there is one more update to share.

Dwayne Johnson the film star who rose to fame as the legendary wrestler The Rock has been appointed as a board member for TKO (who also own UFC). As part of the deal, he will receive $30 million in stock and full ownership of his trademarked name “The Rock.”

How big is WWE Raw and what will it bring to Netflix?

Raw is the No.1 show on USA Network, bringing in 17.5 million unique viewers over the course of a year. It trends on X 52 weeks a year during the airing of each episode. It has more than one billion followers across multiple social media platforms.

With such a large audience, it’s no surprise Netflix has chosen it as its first dabble into the world of live sports as it looks to further expand on its 247.2 million paid subscribers globally.

Pixel 9 Pro design has already leaked

Detailed renders showing Google’s late-2024 flagship phone, the Pixel 9 Pro, have already hit the internet.

The Pixel 8 Pro (pictured above) is scarcely three months old, but we’ve already got a very good idea what its successor will look like.

Reliable tipster OnLeaks has provided details of the Pixel 9 Pro to MySmartPrice, which has published detailed 5K renders and a 360-degree video showcasing what the phone will look like from all angles.

As you can see, Google looks set to flatten the Pixel 9 Pro out significantly, with a slightly thinner 8.5mm body (vs 8.8mm) and a straight-edged look that looks a lot like the iPhone 15 Pro Max (and now the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus too).

Pixel 9 Pro renderImage: OnLeaks and MySmartPrice

On the back of the phone, we still have something resembling the signature Pixel camera visor, but this time it’ll take its cue from the Pixel Fold. It won’t melt into the side frame like with previous Pixel non-foldables, but will sit as a discrete unit – albeit a more rounded, lozenge-shaped one than the Fold.

Other notable details include the claim that the Pixel 9 Pro will drop the size of its display from 6.7 to 6.5 inches.

This is purely a design leak, so there’s no information on the phone’s internals. We’re itching to know whether Google has ramped up its camera provision, or whether it’s managed to close the gap to Qualcomm with its Tensor G4 chip.

All those details will doubtless seep out over the next nine months or so.

Nikki Haley Vows to Stay in Race after Second Straight Defeat (Video) | The Gateway Pundit

Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley vowed to stay in the Republican presidential race Tuesday night after polls closed in New Hampshire and the first-in-the-nation primary was called for President Trump within minutes. Trump won the Iowa caucus last week, with Haley placing third. Iowa second place finisher Florida Governor Ron DeSantis dropped out of the race on Sunday and endorsed Trump, leaving the race between Trump and Haley.

Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley addresses supporters after placing second to President Trump in the New Hampshire Republican presidential primary, screen image via WMUR-TV/YouTube, January 23, 2024.

Speaking to a supporters in Concord, Haley congratulated Trump on his victory, but then said, “This race is far from over. There are dozens of states left to go and the next one is my sweet state of South Carolina!”

Nikki Haley takes the stage in Concord: “They’re falling all over themselves, saying this race is over…New Hampshire is first in the nation, it is not the last.”

“This race is far from over. There’s dozens of states left to go and the next one is my sweet state of SC.” pic.twitter.com/ZaDiVM3QAq

— Dylan Wells (@dylanewells) January 24, 2024

Haley has a robust fundraising schedule with 15 fundraisers set for the next month. The next GOP primary is in South Carolina on February 24. (The Nevada caucus is February 8. The Nevada primary on February 6 does not allocate delegates, only the caucus does which is why Trump is only competing in the caucus. Haley is not on the ballot for the caucus but is on the primary ballot. Explained here.)

Haley said, “Well, I’m a fighter, and I’m scrappy. And now we’re the last one standing next to Donald Trump.”

Haley said her being in the race is not personal against Trump, but that it was “time to put the negativity and chaos behind us.”

After criticizing Biden and Congress, Haley turned her fire on Trump, blaming him for Republicans losing elections in 2018, 2020 and 2022, claiming Democrats want to run against Trump.

Haley said of Trump, “With Donald Trump you have one bout of chaos after another: this court case, that controversy, this tweet, that senior moment. You can’t fix Joe Biden’s chaos with Republican chaos.”

Haley brought up Trump recently saying “Nikki Haley” instead of “Nancy Pelosi” when talking about January 6, and mentioned her call for politicians over 75 to take a competency test. Haley called on Trump to debate her to prove his mental competency.

Haley said she is looking forward to campaigning in South Carolina. The most recent poll there (by a Trump pollster) shows Trump crushing Haley in her home state 68 percent to 28 percent. Trump has the endorsement of just about every major Republican office holder in South Carolina including Governor Henry McMaster, Senator Tim Scott (whom Haley appointed to the Senate in 2012), Senator Lindsey Graham and firebrand Rep. Nancy Mace.

Haley posted a clip from her speech attacking Trump, “Donald Trump’s only strategy is to lie about me and my record. That’s not going to work in South Carolina. The people of South Carolina know that I cut their taxes, passed one of the toughest immigration bills in the country, and moved thousands from welfare to work. #LetsGo”

Early 1990’s Doom Prototype restored and made playable by modder

In much the same way as certain artists and bands throughout history are responsible for inspiring new eras and ushering in change when it comes to games Doom is, well the Mona Lisa.

Doom (the 1993 one, not the later remakes) and its cousin Wolfenstein changed gaming. You can’t say we wouldn’t have had Call of Duty without Doom, but it may not have turned out the same. In an article on PCGamesN Ed Smith waxes as lyrical as I do about this seminal moment in games history.

Along any game’s development path a myriad of changes, both for design and for technical reasons are always going to take place. What would Doom have looked like if those different decisions had been taken at key points in its creative cycle?

Very different that’s what, and now the long abandoned prototype of Doom has been restored by modder DrPypsy and is playable in all its glory.

But can it run Doom?

Doom Delta 3.0 is the result – taking from id’s legendary Doom Bible design document that birthed the masterpiece. Many of the things cut from the game make it into Doom Delta. New weapons, extra characters, and a new HUD design. Many of the original aspects of the planned game ended up on the cutting room floor, waiting one day to be restored as the daddy of the boomer shooter (you kids, seriously do not know you are born.)

Playing as any of the characters and not just Doomguy feels strange having become so used to the original. Transfer Doom Delta and play it on any of the bazillion Doom wads out there and see how your favorite maps might have played out.

Doom Delta is a hugely interesting piece of work that must have taken an age to put together and if Doom is the Mona Lisa, akin to me taking a few of Leonardo da Vinci’s initial sketches and painting an almost completely different lady (for context, I cannot paint, so mine would have been a poor effort).

Trump Speaks to Supporters After Winning New Hampshire Primary: ‘What a Great Victory’ (VIDEO) | The Gateway Pundit

The New Hampshire Primary race has been called for Donald Trump. It was a decisive victory despite thousands of Democrats turning out to vote for Nikki Haley.

Trump spoke to supporters after the race was called and took a few shots at Nikki Haley for vowing to stay in the race.

He correctly pointed out that he is polling way out in front in her home state of South Carolina.

The Hill reports:

Trump tears into Haley after New Hampshire victory

Former President Trump on Tuesday lambasted Nikki Haley after he defeated her in the New Hampshire primary, pressuring his lone major rival in the GOP nominating contest to suspend her campaign.

“I have to tell you it was very interesting because I said ‘Wow what a great victory,’ but then somebody ran up to the stage all dressed up nicely when it was at 7, but now I just walked up and it was at 14,” Trump said, mocking Haley for delivering remarks to supporters after the race was called in his favor.

“Let’s not have somebody take a victory when she had a very bad night. She had a very bad night,” Trump said.

Later, he added that he couldn’t let his former United Nations ambassador “get away with bulls–t.”

“But I felt I should do this, because I find in life you can’t let people get away with bullshit,” he said. “You can’t. And when I watched her in the fancy dress… I said what’s she doing? We won. And she did the same thing last week. “

Watch the whole speech below:

On to the next contest.

E-Sports in Saudi Arabia receives $45 million investment

The rapidly growing gaming market in Saudi Arabia has received a huge boost after Dubai-based e-sports brand, True Gamers, signed a franchise deal worth $45 million with investment firm, Falak, reports Meed.

The investment will involve the creation of 150 e-sports clubs across Saudi and seeks to capitalize on a market that is expected to expand by over 8% annually over the next three years, eventually meeting a market value of $1.3 billion by 2027.

The first e-sports venue following the deal is expected to be opened within the next six months in Jeddah. By the end of 2024, the aim is to have ten venues operating throughout the Kingdom. There are also plans to benefit from True Gamers’ qualities as an event organizer in the UAE, where it already hosts tournaments, with plans to roll out similar events throughout Saudi Arabia.

True Gamers said the deal had the potential “to play a pivotal role in propelling the growth of the Kingdom’s e-sports industry” and help foster “a vibrant gaming community within Suadi Arabia” making it “accessible to a broader audience in Saudi Arabia and beyond.”

The growth of the e-sports market in Saudi Arabia is a part of Saudi Vision 2030, as well as the government’s National Gaming and Esports Strategy, which plans to create 39,000 jobs and unlock over $13.3 billion in value by the end of the decade.

Saudi Arabia is going all-in on e-sports

This latest investment follows a string of developments within the e-gaming sector in Saudi Arabia that show clear intent on following through with this particular aspect of Saudi Vision 2030.

In December 2023, a new world-class arena was revealed to be in the works in Riyadh. The unveiling of the multi-billion dollar Qiddiya entertainment district outlined plans for a 5,000+ seater e-sports arena, which will feature one of the world’s largest total areas of video screens and 4D haptic seating, which will allow spectators to feel every shot, explosion, and goal.

The entertainment district is expected to attract around 10 million visitors a year and will feature gaming-themed hotels and apartments.

Furthermore, the introduction of e-sports-focused categories in the upcoming Arab Game Awards underlines Saudi Arabia’s emergence as a global force in competitive gaming.
