How I travel the world from my bedroom? (Apps review)

I am a hardcore backpack traveler and write stories on my travel blog site. I travel to a few countries with less money but with social capital. If you are interested to learn about my story of traveling with social capital you can read it in the seats2meet, magazine.

Anyway, traveling is not possible since last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The entire travel industry is almost no more. Even if everything is good from today, I can’t travel due to miserable financial conditions made by the Covid crisis. 

But, thanks to technology, I am able to travel the world virtually from my bedroom/workstation. Before 6 months I got an Oculus Quest 2 VR Glass from  Jurjen De Vries and Seats2meet. I got so excited because it is my dream gadget. I could never afford it as it is expensive. You can also read my article about S2m, Bangladesh is connected with VR world. After getting the VR, I was testing it like a crazy person. Sharing it with others and spent hours and hours with it.

But, the magic happened on my birthday on 14th April 1999 (wrote the date in case you wanna gift me a Lamborgini next year). On my birthday, Jurjen gifted me two apps name Wander and National Geographic Explore Vr. Both are paid apps and cost around 10 USD each.
Let’s talk about Wander first. It’s a virtual travel app. You can put whatever city you wanna travel to and it will teleport you there. With the Ultra HD 360 degree view, you will feel like you are really in that city not virtually. You can walk through the streets with navigation. Faces of people on the street will be blurred due to privacy but it still looks real on the glass.
They use the Google Earth and Maps resource together and make a view though it is way better than the actual Google Earth when I tried. You can watch the video about the Wander app so that you can have a better visualization.

National Geographic Explore Vr is also a travel app but it gives you tours in Antarctica and Machu Picchu. I didn’t like the Machu Picchu tour as it has less adventure and a typical artificial tour. The Antarctica tour is amazingly playful. You can have great adventures like Snow Climbing, Kayaking. The National Geographic app gives you the feature to take pictures with the virtual camera and save it on your gallery. I wish all the travel app start giving the feature. 

You may be thinking about why I am writing this here. In this lockdown situation, I found something crazy that fill up my traveler mind. If you have a VR and miss the traveling life, I definitely recommend you to have these apps. Cheap and fun.

Finally girls are joining S2M,Bangladesh! Why it’s a big deal?

Empowering girls were my biggest challenge with Seats2meet, Bangladesh location. It took me almost 2 years to start meetups with girls.

Why it’s a big deal? Why I am so excited about the fact that girls are joining and learning things together with everyone?

The fact is we are a Muslim majority country with pure Islamic influence in our culture. Girls are not always allowed to go outside and do activities as a man can do. It is not extreme laws here in countries like Iran, Iraq, or Afghanistan but it is here somewhere. All these cultural barriers are killing us.

When I started Seats2meet back in 2019, I had seen some curious girls who want to join our location but their parents strictly told them not to join any random things run by a boy. Though I started with 2 girls anyway. It didn’t sustain. Girls stopped coming because of less company and they feel shy to sit around with boys. 

After one month or so of starting, we only had a meetup with boys and all my buddies were learning several cool things. But I was not fully happy about the fact that many girls are not here learning things. I do believe that empowering women is the best step toward ultimate development where 50% of our citizens are women. Also, whenever I used to post about my activities on the Seats2meet, magazine, people used to tell me, “Why there are no girls?”

So I start going home to home to convince parents about the importance of learning technology and leadership. A man stood up and said, “Yes, I am gonna send my daughter to learn computer and technology, this is important for coming days”. He is not educated at all but had the thought. We together then start talking to parents and people starts getting it. I take all the responsibilities in case anything happens. 

Now we have 8 members of girls team learning computer 4 days a week. Girls are loving the VR thing. They discovered the VR world for the first time.

We are planning a festival together. My festival plans are not working due to lockdown and so on.

I wanna make a dedicated section for girls where there will be a leader who teaches things to the newcomer and convince other girls to join. We will then start a campaign here and there (when the covid thing will be fine) for women’s awareness with the girls. A girl talking to a group of girls is much different than I talk to them. They can connect with each other pretty quickly.

Time management: zo besteed jij je tijd aan belangrijke zaken

Tijd is het meest kostbare bezit dat we hebben. Je kunt het niet kopen, aanvullen of opladen. Het is dus belangrijk ervoor te zorgen dat jij jouw tijd besteedt aan de dingen die er voor jou het meest toe doen. Misschien wil je meer tijd voor familie, om te sporten of te reizen. Door te zorgen dat je jouw tijd zo efficiënt mogelijk indeelt, zorg je ervoor dat je meer tijd overhoudt. Maar hoe doe je dat?

Stel duidelijke doelen

Wil je van punt A naar punt B komen dan is het belangrijk te bepalen wat jouw punt B is. Dus, waar sta je nu en waar wil je naartoe? Welke doelen wil jij bereiken en wat heb je daarvoor nodig? Maak daarin strenge keuzes. Je kunt niet alles doen, je kunt beter een paar dingen goed doen. Kies maximaal vijf doelen en ga deze doelen gebruiken als je kompas dat je steeds opnieuw vertelt of de stap die je wil zetten een stap in de juiste richting is. Om meteen een begin te maken: zet al je projecten voor dit jaar eens op een rij. Werk en privé, alles wat er in je opkomt, zo concreet mogelijk. Dan gaan we nu je eerste vier stappen zetten.

Stap 1 – Stop met overbodige projecten

Stel jezelf per project de vraag: is het relevant of is het interessant? Dragen de projecten écht bij aan die paar doelen die je hebt bepaald? Of zijn het dingen die je óók zou willen doen? Het is tijd voor het welbekende ‘kill your darlings’. Je gaat het merendeel van je projecten schrappen. Ja, echt. Al die projecten nemen tijd in beslag. Tijd die je maar één keer kunt besteden en die je dus niet in de meest belangrijke zaken steekt. 

Stap 2 – Leer delegeren

Ga eens na welke projecten je energie geven en welke niet. Wat vind je leuk? Waar krijg je energie van en wat vreet energie? En kijk dan eens naar de energievreters. Misschien is het alles wat met administratie te maken heeft of misschien kosten brainstorms jou juist energie. Wat het ook is, laat het los. Ga die projecten die jou teveel energie en tijd kosten delegeren. Besteed het uit of geef het door aan een collega. Er is altijd iemand in je omgeving die aan gaat op waar jij op leegloopt. Zoek die persoon en delegeer.

Stap 3 – Optimaliseer

Kijk eens kritisch naar je dagindeling. Wat kost jou veel tijd? En dus, waar verlies jij tijd? Misschien reis je elke dag een paar uur op en neer naar je werk. Dat is niet heel efficiënt als je in die tijd niets kunt doen. Kijk dan of je deze tijd kunt optimaliseren. Kun je met de trein gaan, zodat je onderweg kunt werken? Kun je vaker thuiswerken? Of misschien kun je op andere tijden reizen, zodat je files vermijdt? Dit kan je zo meerdere uren per dag opleveren. 

Stap 4 – Automatiseer

Zijn er taken die je keer op keer doet, maar die telkens hetzelfde zijn? Door die taken te automatiseren bespaar je eenvoudig tijd. Misschien is het steeds maar een paar minuten, maar bedenk hoeveel tijd dat is als je het per maand of per jaar berekent. Kijk naar wat je terugkerende taken zijn die je in een stappenplan kunt samenvatten. Voorbeelden zijn het opmaken van facturen, onderhoud van je website en verzenden van nieuwsbrieven. Kan een stap door een computer gedaan worden? Dan kun je het automatiseren. 

Werk productief

Met behulp van de vier stappen heb je bepaald wat je wel en niet (zelf) gaat doen. Je houdt nu een paar projecten over die écht nodig zijn om je doelen te bereiken en dus jouw persoonlijke aandacht op dít moment verdienen. 

Om ervoor te zorgen dat je die projecten ook echt alle aandacht kunt geven is het belangrijk om minder te switchen tussen taken, hoog in je energie en productiviteit te blijven en je focus te verhogen. 

 

Een aantal tips:

– Taken bundelen

Een eenvoudige manier om minder te switchen is door taken te bundelen. Vaak doen we dit op projectbasis. Alles wat met project A te maken heeft in de ochtend, alles wat met project B te maken heeft in de middag. In elk project heb je echter verschillende taken. Denk aan lezen, overleggen, schrijven en research. Zo ben je dus nog steeds aan het switchen. Voor onze hersenen maakt het namelijk niet uit waar het over gaat, maar wat er gedaan moet worden. Het is effectiever om taken te bundelen op basis van je breinactiviteit. Bijvoorbeeld, alle schrijftaken in de ochtend en alle telefoongesprekken in de middag. 

– Gebruik themadagen

Om niet compleet overweldigd te raken van de hoeveelheid verschillende taken die je hebt, kun je jouw werkdagen koppelen aan thema’s. Verdeel je dagen bijvoorbeeld aan de hand van je projecten. Maandag werk je aan project A, dinsdag aan project B. Of test het eens op basis van je taken en maak dinsdag je vergaderdag en woensdag je administratiedag. Probeer verschillende variaties en kijk wat voor jou werkt. Misschien wil je hele themadagen of misschien werkt halve fijner voor jou. Het kan zijn dat je op onderwerp wilt indelen of dat het juist op taakniveau fijner voelt. Test wat werkt voor jou.

– Werk in sprints

We noemden het eerder al, task switchen is niet efficiënt. Als je wisselt tussen taken kost het je 50% meer tijd om het af te ronden. Focus dus eens een periode op één project. Plan bijvoorbeeld een week voor dat ene project, zodat je het met volledige focus van begin tot eind kunt afwerken. Je zal in die week meer werk verzetten voor dat project dan wanneer je een maand lang wisselt van project naar project. Een sprint hoeft overigens niet meteen een week te duren. Het kan ook een dag zijn voor kleinere taken. Het gaat er vooral om dat je zoveel mogelijk projecten ná elkaar doet in plaats van naast elkaar. 

– Zoek wat werkt voor jou

Wat ook belangrijk is: time management werkt voor iedereen anders. Een heel gestructureerd persoon heeft veel baat bij de eerder genoemde tips, terwijl een creatief persoon zich hier misschien door beperkt voelt. Neem de founders van Meetings in the Sun, Alex en Suzanne. Zij helpen mensen met de Helweek from Home op zoek te gaan naar de beste versie van zichzelf. Productief, energiek, gefocust, alles om zoveel mogelijk uit je tijd te halen. Zij wetenj als geen ander hoe verschillend je behoeften daarin kunnen zijn. Alex werkt als creatief visionair beter vanuit vrijheid en ruimte om te creëren en ideeën uit te werken. Waar Suzanne, als gestructureerde werker, lekkerder werkt met concrete doelen, taken en planningen. Beiden hebben daarvoor een zoektocht afgelegd naar wat werkt voor hen. Alle lessen die zij daarin leerden, delen ze nu met anderen.

Verhoog je productiviteit

Door hoofd & hart reizen

Zes van de tweeëntwintig gedichten in de bundel gaan over – of zijn geïnspireerd op Utrecht e.o. (denk aan Fort Lunet III, Oud Amelisweerd of de Dom).
Met het geschreven woord als uitgangspunt, de fotografie als illustratie en de muziek als verdieping, ‘reis’ je door hoofd en hart. Deze muzikaal poëtische reis gaat over het leven, de liefde, danservaringen, de natuur, Utrecht en klimaatverandering.

Muzikale voordrachten

Eerst geef ik een korte inleiding op de bundel. Waarom draag ik mijn boek op aan Moeder Aarde en hoe zijn de elf “muzikale gedichten” ontstaan?
Maar verwacht vooral veel (muzikale) voordrachten uit eigen werk. En bij een bundel waar fotografie nooit ver weg is, hoort natuurlijk een beeldende presentatie.

Seats Utrecht & Seats Bangladesh: op afstand door dezelfde bril

We hebben allemaal een andere bril op. Bij de één is hij roze, bij de ander goudgeel of grijs. Soms fris gepoetst en de andere keer een tikkeltje beslagen. Om elkaar te blijven begrijpen moeten we soms wat moeite doen. Daarom proberen we bij Seats Utrecht af en toe een nieuw montuurtje uit. Of zetten een VR-headset op. 

In Bangladesh is ook een Seats-locatie. Die wordt gerund door tech-enthousiasteling Fahad. Hij wil alles weten over technologische ontwikkelingen, gaming en VR en maakt zich sterk voor ontwikkeling en educatie van jonge mensen in zijn omgeving. Maar wat voor ons binnen handbereik is -het aanschaffen en opzetten van een VR-bril- is voor hem geen optie, maar een droom. En dat besef, dat was ons ‘andere montuurtje’.

Daarom kochten we een nieuwe VR-headset voor Fahad en ‘zijn boys’ in Bangladesh. Die werd door Seatser van het eerste uur (en tech-nerd in optima forma;-) Jurjen de Vries opgestuurd. Na 2 maanden (!!) wachten was het zover: Fahad had de headset binnen. Natuurlijk volgde direct een officiële ‘unpacking’ video op YouTube (de moeite waard om even te bekijken).

Zo kijken we nu, vanuit hele andere werelden, toch door dezelfde bril.

That, however, doesn’t mean that you should stifle audience participation or limit yourself to a single presenter. In fact, good, impactful presentations are the ones that inspire your guests to ask questions, try answering some of yours, or participate when you’re organizing a game. 

Add some group exercises people can enjoy during your presentation. They help bring people together, as singling individuals out might make them feel uncomfortable. Simple “the show of hands” icebreakers can also help make people feel like they belong, and they’ll be much more engaged with the topic at hand. If you have virtual guests joining in, you can set up a live chat feature to help them interact remotely. Allow your on-site guests to do the same, maybe some of them want more time to phrase the questions.

 

A business presentation hosted in your offices or a shared workspace, with few people present, can be a challenge in the new normal. Het vergaderlandschap is de laatste jaren drastisch verandert. Vele organisaties begrijpen de kracht van vergaderen. Toch valt er voor de meeste organisaties veel te optimaliseren om het maximale resultaat te bereiken. Meerdere factoren spelen een belangrijke rol om een vergadering succesvol te benoemen, denk hierbij ook aan aspecten als betrokkenheid en plezier. Een effectieve vergadering bevat meerdere componenten. In dit artikel leer je hoe je als organisatie door samenhang van verschillende componenten het maximale resultaat kunt behalen en zelfs tot 56% tijd kunt besparen in de voorbereiding en in het nawerk van vergaderingen. Dan te bedenken dat de gemiddelde manager 25 tot 80 procent van zijn tijd besteedt aan vergaderen is de besparingssom binnen een gemiddelde organisatie snel te maken.

Goed vergaderen

Het hebben van goede vergaderingen is van groot belang, dat is een feit. De grote vraag is: “Wat heeft een vergadering nodig om echt succesvol te zijn”. Hiervoor moet een vergadering minimaal de onderstaande componenten bevatten. Zonder deze componenten worden vergaderingen vaak als ‘niet effectief’ en als ‘tijdsverspilling’ ervaren. Daarnaast is er één aanvullende factor wat organisaties klaar maakt voor de volgende generatie vergaderingen, dit bespreken we na de onderstaande punten.

Een goede moderator/facilitator. Dit is nodig om ervoor te zorgen dat het proces goed verloopt en iedereen optimaal zijn/haar input kan geven. Tevens blijkt uit meerdere onderzoeken dat het gebrek aan een goede moderator/facilitator één van de grootste vergader frustraties is.Een duidelijk vergaderdoel. Het resultaat van de vergadering hangt grotendeels af van het vooropgestelde doel. Het is belangrijk dat de participanten weten wat er bereikt moet worden tijdens de vergadering. Zonder doel zal de vergaderingen vele onnodige zijwegen nemen wat veel (onnodige) tijd in beslag kan nemen waardoor effectief resultaat uitblijft.De juiste cultuur waarin iedereen openstaat voor inbreng van anderen. De bedrijfscultuur is grotendeels verantwoordelijk voor het succes van vergaderingen. Het is belangrijk dat ieders mening geaccepteerd wordt en dat participanten openlijk ideeën kunnen inbrengen.Zorg voor gestructureerd tweerichtingsverkeer. Dit lijkt voor de hand liggend. Toch zorgt dominantie, hiërarchie en de wet van decibel vaak voor een eenrichtingsverkeer.Betrokkenheid van de deelnemers. Zonder betrokkenheid raken deelnemers afgeleid en is de kans groot dat de deelnemers afgeleid raken. Het doel is om de betrokkenheid zo hoog mogelijk te houden. Geef daarom iedereen de kans voor input.Een selectie van de juiste participanten. Het toevoegen van onnodig veel mensen kan de efficiëntie van een vergadering tegenhouden. Zorg er daarom voor dat de groep goed geselecteerd wordt en probeer deze vaak zo compact mogelijk te houden.Data verslaglegging (notulen). Dit maakt het mogelijk om data terug te halen waardoor lange vergadertrajecten goed vastgelegd worden en data teruggehaald kan worden.Kort maar krachtig. Vergaderingen duren vaak te lang waardoor deelnemers afhaken. Zorg dat de vergadering bij de kern blijft en dat er niet zijwegen worden gebruikt. Het hebben van een duidelijk doel kan al helpen voor een facilitator om de zijwegen netjes af te kappen en terug naar de kern te gaan. Dit is tevens ook één van de grootste vergader frustraties.De vergadering van de toekomst

De gevolgen van het coronavirus hebben ons veel geleerd over het belang van lange afstand communicatie, samenwerkingen en het belang van digitale oplossingen. Dit heeft ook grote impact gehad op de manier hoe organisaties vergaderingen inrichten.
