Portrait With The International Space Station

My sister rang me at about 5pm to let me know exciting news: the International Space Station was due to pass directly overhead at 6pm! Hurrah!

So I set a phone alarm (being notorious at keeping an eye on the time otherwise) and at 5:50pm, we duly bundled up in shoes and coats and headed out to the main road through our suburb (a huge walk of one house away, ha). Eight tense minutes followed as we scanned the western sky, and thenlo! behold!there she was. We had a stellar (ha) view for about...

Kickstarter Like Whoa o.O (And A Sneaky Peek At Pins)

Wow. Just, wow.

The Kickstarter for A Fox Of Storms And Starlight is off and racing. Fully funded in under 24 hours, and weve already blitzed past not one but two stretch goals!

Which means that if you join up now for the tiny price of $2AU, you get FOUR Inklet short stories (ebook)! Considering they retail at $1 2 usually, youre getting them for better than half price. Practically a steal!

Thanks so much to everyone whos checked out the campaign already. Im ridiculously excited about...

Slightly Bad News and TERRIBLY EXCITING NEWS, All At The Same Time

So, you know those graphics I mentioned yesterday? Heres a sneaky peaky:

There are lots of things I could say here, but Ill be honest, the one I want to say most is CAN YOU SEE THAT *GORGEOUS* BLACK HARDCOVER EDITION??! CAN YOUYYYYUUUUUUU!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

*dies happy*

*ahem*

Soooo. The slightly bad news is that weve decided to push back the release of A Fox Of Storms And Starlight by a month.

But the really, really, horrendously exciting news at least from my perspective is...

Made-It Monday: BOOK TROPE PINS!

Welcome to #MadeItMonday, where I post something Ive made in the previous week, and where you can join in and post something you made too! The rules are easy: post a pic somewhere of something youve made in the last week (ish; lets say in the last month as the hard-and-fast) and tag it. Sit back and enjoy scrolling through all the beautiful things weve collectively created, and celebrate the fact that humans can be awesome!

Well, Ive done some creative things this week, but mostly they are...

Barbie & (Ken’s) Big Day

I dont care what you are doing right now, STOP and go look at this amazing photo shoot. A bored wedding photographer set up a Barbie wedding shoot and oh my gosh, its both supremely talented and hilariously funny.

Really. Its worth the three minutes of your time. Youll laugh at least once.

April Showers: A Writing Update

I mean to post this week about Liana Brookss new book Change Of Momentum, and about my new Inklet thats out, When War Came To Town, but Eh. Its been one of those weeks. At least, however, the Instagram tour for Change Of Momentum is going well (check out the gorgeous pics here), and my kids have had vegetables every day, and weve done a longish walk twice around the pond every day, and no ones gone house-mad just yet

We wont discuss the abominable amount of screen time we are *all* having,...

Introducing April Showers: A Writing Challenge For Me And A Book For You

Ive been having trouble restarting writing. I basically havent written much since January, when I finished A Fox Of Storms And Starlight, and because of last year I wasnt in a strong enough writing habit to take essentially two months off without it seriously impacting my habits and my critical voice.

Critical voice gets stronger the longer you go without writing, so it gets harder and harder to write fluently and without fear. Every time I think Im making progress with it, life bops me on...

On Hope

A repost from April 2011.

Theres nothing I can do, and thats exactly the problem. If I could, Id do everything. Id carry it for you, Id fall in your place, Id hold your hand and die with you.

But theres nothing I can do. sometimes, we have to stand on our own two feet.

You cant stand up? Its too heavy? You just want a break?

So do I. So do we all. See, life isnt the moments where things are perfect, where things are pretty, where things are right. Theyre the exception that proves the rule....
