Quilt Because It's Beautiful

QuiltToday is National Quilting Day.

I wonder if you have ever looked closely at a quilt and what it takes to create one? It is a wonder and an amazement to look at those close stitches one after the other, one as close to the other as possible. When I was being taught how to properly quilt, the stitches, I was informed, had to be 13 stitches to the inch. Imagine how tight and how small that is.

For years they were made by hand. For years they were the product of left overs that could be used...

Biscotti Should Not Be Unyielding

Biscotti for Foodie Friday Biscotti by Chie Sonia

My mother made these wonderful, long, crunchy cookies that we grew up enjoying. We basked in the flavor of anisette and the soft, crumbly texture. Hers was not hard and unyielding.

Here is the recipe for it:

2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 Tbsp whole Anise seeds
1 tsp baking powder
1/3 cup vegetable oil
4 eggs

Beat the eggs. Add sugar and continue beating until color changes to a light yellow. Add vanilla then the oil and beat until oil...

Drink Green Beer but Drive Safely

St Patrick s DaySt Patrick's Day

St. Patrick is the Patron Saint for the Irish Catholics. Blue was the colour associated with Saint Patrick. Now green has taken over as the years went by and its association with Saint Patrick's day prevails. As early as the 17th century green ribbons and shamrocks were worn in celebration of St Patrick's Day .

The Patron Saint was said to have used the shamrock, the three-leaf plant, to explain the Trinity to pagan Irish. The wearing and display of shamrocks and...

Lips Tell Who You Are

LipsLips Appreciation Day

Nothing says beautiful as a pair of gorgeous lush lips, with a sparkling wine color. Whatever your preference is for eyes and body, lips are the only time people agree that full and voluptuous is the hallmark of gorgeous in the flappers department.

The dictionary describes them as the fleshy part that is over and below the teeth and mouth. Lips have been exalted in literature, poetry and paintings. Nothing says I love you, like a plump pair of lips.

Even if someone is...

True Confessions Can Be Destructive

Tree in summerTrue Confessions Day

Please don't be stupid and go confessing something that would cause trouble in your marriage or relationships in general. Just because today is True Confessions Day does not mean you should go into work and tell your Boss that you hate them, no matter how much you want to do it.

Just because today claims to be that day does not mean you have to tell your sister that if she was not family, you would never have thought of knowing her. It is not only creepy, it is rude and...

Pi Day, Who Knows What it Means

PI 1None of it makes any sense to me, so here it goes, be patient: Wikipedia says, Pi is a mathematical constant whose value is the ratio of any Euclidean plane circle's circumference to its diameter; this is the same value as the ratio of a circle's area to the square of its radius.

It is approximately equal to 3.14159265 in the usual decimal notation. Many formulae from mathematics, science, and engineering involve Pi, which makes it one of the most important mathematical constants.[1]

Pi is an i...

The Good Samaritan Did

Good-Samaritan.jpgThis is God's way of teaching each of us humility and acceptance with joy. There are those times when we will be The Good Samaritan but those are the easy times. When we are on the receiving end, our true natures are uncovered. Woe to him who has his soul uncovered and does nothing; for hardness of heart will set in and God will not speak of that again.

The Good Samaritan tells of a man from Samaria, who found a wounded Jew on the side of the road and stopped to help.

Why the need to tell of...

Sweet Serenity with Books in Sequestered Nooks

Books Longfellow"The love of learning, the sequestered nooks, And all the sweet serenity of books" — Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Whether you like reading while holding a book in your hands or reading on a well lit screen where the words glow at you, you are still a reader of the written word.

A book is a friend and companion as your computer screen or i-pad or reader would be to you. There is a hesitation in some to admit their enjoyment for the practical use of electronic devices to achieve the same pleasure d...

Result Oriented Appleseed Was Not

Apple-Tree.jpgDoes it matter whether you can see the results of your handiwork or not? If the story of Johnny Appleseed is to be believed and let's just say we do, then everything he did, he walked away from, knowing full well that he would not see the results of his toil.

It takes strength of resolve and a determined heart to do things without seeing first hand the product of what we have worked so hard to accomplish.

Faith is built on such a model as this, where you believe in what you have not seen...

TSA Tyrannical Shameful Acts

(T)otally (S)enseless (A)ntics

TSA Totally Shameful ActsC.S. Lewis said that the worst tyranny comes from the people or persons who claim that the thing they are doing to you, is what you need for your protection and your own good.

Our government has deemed it necessary to protect us. In the most nasty humiliating, disgusting and inefficient manner, they posture, gesture and on the whole, monkey around as they direct us, sheep and cattle, down one aisle or another to be groped and fondled, scanned and ogled.

This...
