Sketchcard Marathon...Mystique
This was probably the blurriest photo, I think I was just in a flurry of sketching and signing. I should have taken that extra second to make sure it was in focus...oh well.

Sketchcard Marathon...Shipwreck
I think this is only the 2nd Shipwreck request I've ever gotten. I still refuse to draw Polly his parrot from the cartoon. I hate that bird...

Croc Master inks...
More GI Joe Battleground art. In this case, I got to ink a few of the characters. There area variety of art styles through the new game, and one of the styles is a traditional comic book approach. In that case we ink up the pencil sketches. I found they mostly kept me busy penciling a new character and hiring someone else to ink what I was doing instead of me spending time inking them. They'd rather just move me on to the next character. Which was fine with me, but I do enjoy inking and seeing the sketch more finished. One thing I really liked about Croc Master was all the textures involved in his costume and especially on the crocodile itself. Fun stuff to ink.

CrocMaster GI JOE Battleground art...
Hey guess what....MORE GI Joe Battlegrounds art! I know you're surprised. Well everyone is finally finding out why I've been so crazy busy lately. I've been working on the new GI Joe: Battlegrounds game. We get to draw GIJOE and Cobra characters all day long and it's a blast! On top of this I've had other commercial art jobs and comic covers all keeping me busy as well, and it's been pretty insane juggling it all.
But in the end I've produced a crazy amount of work, and it's been on properties that I love, so I'm not complaining! For Croc Master here, you can see in my initial prelim there were just a few pose changes I did to make it a bit more dynamic and add the whip. The prelim was based on the pose they suggested, and then I made a few revisions for the final.

Bazooka GIJOE Battleground art...
Ol' Bazooka, always good for a laugh. Even in production I can't take this guy seriously. Here is another process example of art for the new GI JOE Battlegrounds game that I've been working on the last year. In this case the game production company sent me a pdf reference package for the character. i was excited to draw Bazooka again, since the last time I had drawn him he was getting killed in the IDW comic. So sad....
Anyway, sometimes in the reference package I get, they add poses they want the characters in. I saw the layout and thought it looked a bit weird, but what they say goes. So I did a prelim, it was approved and I did this final for Bazooka. I knew it looked off, but it was the pose they wanted. They came back a little while later and said " this pose looks a bit off, why dont you take another stab at it". So I did a couple more sketches for suggested poses. Mostly what looks weird in the initial finished one, is that his right arm AND right leg are both moving forward, and that's an unnatural motion. You can keep the right leg forward, but his left arm would need to be up to make it look more fluid and natural. So I did a sketch of that. I also did a quick sketch of him in a "ready" position, which I actually liked the best.

Barricade GI JOE:Battleground art...
Another process shot of a character from the new GI JOE: Battleground iphone/ipad game. I would typically get a reference pdf for each of these characters. It would give me the uniform details and weapons the character would have. Sometimes even poses are laid out for me. In this case, I really didn't know who this character was. He first showed up in the early 90's and by then I wasn't really buying the GI Joe toys. So luckily I was given some great reference to get this one done.
You can see below that I have a basic underdrawing or prelim done. They would sometimes give me slight revisions, in this case just repositioning his gun.

T'Jbang GI JOE: Battleground art...
I pretty soon realized in working on the new GI JOE: Battleground game that they are going to use EVERY character, and for most characters, multiple versions. I realized this when I started getting Ninja Force characters, and other even more obscure GI JOE and Cobra's in my "to do" list. Most of them were still very fun to draw since I've never had the chance to otherwise.

Ripcord GI JOE:Battleground art...
Just to show some process. Here was a Ripcord prelim sketch I did for the GI JOE:Battleground game. I was surprised when they accepted it and took it as final art. A large part of the game is a variety of art styles. They have a traditional comic book style, which is why I think I was brought into the project, and they have a more finished digitally painted style. In the digital paintings, all they really needed was this underdrawing, and they did the finishes. So there are some pieces in the game I forgot that I actually drew, because the finishing style is so different than how I typically see my artwork.
So what I meant to just be a prelim drawing, ended up being accepted right away and I just moved on to the next character in the list.
