Avengers.....

Here's the big three in the Avengers, more classic costumes. Finally got the inks done on this one.

Next up on my commission list, Inks on Brendan's Ult. Spiderman, and Dave's Snake Eyes! I'll keep posting who's next on the list so you can check my posts and see what's being done and who's on deck for the next commission.

Thanks everyone for being so supportive and patient. I'm excited about being able to get through these finally!

Avengers commission prelim...

I'm juggling 3-4 commissions at the same time. It's basically dependent on what I have time for at the moment. For instance I might be feeling really creative and just want to work out the composition, or sometimes I'm driving in the car while my wife is drawing and I can do this small sketches that lay out a commission.

When I have studio time set aside, but I know I'll be up and down and leaving a lot throughout the time I have allotted, I prefer to do my penciling. It's easy to start and stop that, I don't feel like I need to be in a groove.

Other times I have a full night ahead of me to focus where it's nice and quite and I do my best inking then. I definitely need to be in a groove for my inking, and it helps when I have a solid 6-10 block of time to focus on it until it's done.

So for those following the blog and want to know where you are on my list I'm currently working on Brendan's Ultimate Spiderman/Peter Parker, Dave's Snake Eyes and Serpentor, Ted's Sci-Fi, then Aaron's GI Joe sketchbook! If you're not listed here, but have waited awhile, believe me you're coming right up. I'm doing these in the order I got them, so as long as you might have waited, these guys waited just a bit longer. ;)

Luckily, I have full work days I can devote to these now. This is the break in my schedule I've been hoping for these last few years. It's been a crazy long haul to have been so busy, but this is nice to be finally getting these done and to the people commissioning these!

Destro Prelim sketch

Just the underdrawing for my next Destro sketch on the IDW Limited Signature plates. These sketches are just a little smaller than a comic book size. I'm trying to remember to scan in my preliminary drawings as examples for my students at the Comics Experience. This is my basic underdrawing for laying out the anatomy of a figure sketch. This is before I add any costume details, or lighting. Just the structure of the figure.

Another commission in the works. I'll post inks as soon as I'm done. I've already posted the layouts for this one earlier.

IDW Signature Plate - Destro 2....

Here's another Destro sketch for the IDW Limited, Signature series books. I'm doing these sketches on an illustration board that will be inserted in with the books.

I've also started co-hosting a podcast with the Star Joes podcast. We are doing a segment called
STAR JOES: A Real Animated Hero. Ryan Drost and I are re-watching all the old GI JOE cartoons from the 80's starting with the 3 miniseries. You can find the recordings here: Episodes 96 and 99.  Or you can search "Star Joes" on iTunes. It's been a lot of fun re-watching these old cartoons. The first miniseries centered around the MASS device as I've show it here in the background. I wanted to put something in the background that was a classic Destro invention from the cartoons. I might get a little crazy and throw in some Weather Dominator action in another sketch.

Arashikage Commission...

This is a brilliant idea for a commission for any serious GI JOE fan. I've had this one to finish for a very long time, partly because it's such a different kind of commission. In the old Marvel GI JOE series, there was a great panel that was giving some back story to the Arashikage clan and origin stories for Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow.

In the telling of the story this photo was drawn into the comics. Specifically mentioning the blurred face  guy in the back row. The great idea for the commission was for this GI JOE fan to have his likeness drawn in for the Faceless Master there in the back row. Just waiting on a final photo to draw his likeness. Fun commission to do for sure. These original ideas are always a blast.

IDW Signature plates - Destro.....

Back on to trying to finish up these signature plates for the IDW Limited GI JOE books. I've wrapped up a lot of the commercial art stuff that's kept me so busy these last few months. Working on Commissions and these IDW plates has been a lot of fun. I'll be doing these all week along with the oldest commissions first.

For this sketch, any chance I get to draw Destro actually using his wrist missiles is a good day!

Batman and Robin colored

well....actually it's Wingman and Redbird from Batman Inc. written by Grant Morrison, but lets not get too picky.

This was a sketch I posted not to long ago. I started the sketch in Seattle for the Emerald City Comic Con, then finished it for Jeff down at Heroes Con when he dropped off his sketchbook with me a second time.

In between finishing the sketch, we were both surprised by this amazing color job by, Miguel Sequeira, who basically finished the piece before I even had a chance too. Man, that's when you know you're getting late on commissions, other people come in and finish them for you!

Anyway, I wanted to spotlight this great color job.

Thor Colored...

Here's another amazing color job by Simon Gough. You'd think I was paying this guy a salary at this point. Always astounded by the atmosphere and texture he adds to my line art. Check out his gallery here on Deviant art.
