Snake Eyes colors...
This was a sketch I did for the IDW signature plates recently. Here was a great color job done by Logicfun, over those original inks! You can see his facebook page here and a lot of the other colors he's done.
Snake Eyes colors - 554
I especially dig the textures in the explosion Laurence added. Also, that little bit of color in the GI JOE logo really makes it stand out!
My initial line art. Man I love drawing this guy!

Atomic Robo Commission Colors
This was a fun commission to do, and I've had it colored up by Simon Gough. If you haven't read Atomic Robo, I HIGHLY suggest it. Fun, exciting, and very easy to jump into the series at any stage, this book is such a great read. I met Brian and Scott, the creators of Atomic Robo, back at Comic Con the year issue 1 had just come out through the publisher Red 5 comics. I bought a book from them, then read it that night. The next day I went back to their table and bought 2 more copies for my siblings that I thought would enjoy it. It's only got better as the series has gone on.

Starfire...
Sketch done for Fred, who was such a great dude that was willing to drive me around everywhere this last weekend for my store signing in San Antonio. I don't typically draw women "sexy" it's not what I want my work to be known for. At the same time, this was the character he requested, and this is what she wears. If you think about it, she actually wears as much clothes as Wonder Woman, just in different places I guess. I'm kind of surprised DC comics lets some of these costumes go, I think probably it's allowed since she is an alien and has incredibly orange skin.
Kind of like Mystique in the X-Men movies, if someone is a different color than normal skin tones, you don't notice if they aren't fully covered (or in Mystique's case, pretty well naked) I think I'll get this one colored up, simply to show it's probably not as revealing looking with her skin tone, as it suggests in the black and white line art.
Anyway, I get lots of commission requests. Most of them GI JOE, but quite a few that are superhero related as well. I've always kept a standard of content that I would feel comfortable drawing, so I decline some commissions requests because of that. While this sketch gets close to that "line" I don't feel like crossing with my art, I think it's still respectful of the character. Some might consider me a prude about these things, but it's my art and ultimately my choice. I'm comfortable with that.

GI Joe vs Cobra #6 cover colors...
Here's the last step of the process before I send over the final art to the publisher. They then add the title and other cover information. This cover is colored by Nic Chapulis, the first time we've had a chance to work together. You can check out his awesome gallery here.

GIJOE vs Cobra #6 Cover Inks...
And on to the next stage. Inks done for the cover. This was all done on the same board and I still have the original art available to purchase through MGA. Just contact Mike Alexander on the Comic Art Fans site here. Of the 70+ GI Joe related covers I've illustrated I only have 2 at the moment available to purchase.
The inks always just tighten everything up, I added the Cobra symbols on the banners and they did their job. It establishes the scene nicely, and give the piece some balance with the large black symbols toward the top.

GI Joe vs Cobra #6 Cover Pencils...
Here's the next step in the process. I needed something simple in the background, but iconic so a standard Cobra banner goes a long way. I figured I'd add the Cobra symbols in the ink stage. I adjusted the Crimson Asp character a bit more too.

GI Joe vs Cobra #6 Cover...
I've recently finished doing the GI JOE vs Cobra Cover for the comic the GI JOE Collector's Club produces each year for the Joe Con. This cover was for issue #6, and a spotlight of the new character Crimson Asp. The cover first started as Crimson Asp, Baroness and Zarana on the cover. After my initial sketches I was told to add Munitia, another female Cobra character.
Here's the initial layouts I turned in...
GI JOE vs Cobra Cover Layouts - 548
Of these 4 options they chose #3 to go with. The three in the background looking put out or annoyed at the new character grabbing the spotlight. I'll post the pencils tomorrow.

Superman...
I think I've finally drawn a Superman that looks the way I think Superman should look like. This is for the owners of Heroes and Fantasies down in San Antonio, TX. I'm doing a store signing for them this weekend for the release of GI JOE #5 from IDW. I did a variant cover for them with this store in the background on the cover. So I'll be at the store with Fred Van Lente to sign copies of the book.
I still need to ink this, but I'll be doing that on the road. Now I've got to get a couple hours sleep before my flight leaves. It's been a long night. oy.

Snake Eyes Inking process...
Here's the latest Snake Eyes Commission I'm working on, inks are mostly done. I'm sure my inking would go much quicker if I filled all the black shadows in with a brush instead of outlining them first. I hate smearing the ink when it hasn't dried yet, so I find by outlining everything, all the detail is taken care of, and then I can go in and fill in all the blacks from top to bottom and be done. Basically, it means I don't smear the ink as much or at all. But it's not very time efficient. If I was inking a regular book I certainly wouldn't do it this way.

Beachhead...
Beachhead sketch = Awesome day! I've got a few Beachhead requests to take care of. I think next to Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, and Baroness....Beachhead gets the most requests from GI Joe fans.
Also this just a pencil sketch, which I don't really offer that much, but it's fun to do a finished pencil sketch every once in a while. I mostly don't offer it because it takes just as much time to ink a sketch as it does to do finish pencils.
