Dusty and Covergirl...
This was a commission I was finally able to get done at Heroes con last weekend. Dusty and Covergirl from GI JOE. Strange enough, I actually have another Dusty and Covergirl that I need to wrap up soon as well for someone else. Popular combo I suppose. Fun to draw both. I feel like Dusty rarely gets the best "screen"time in recent comics or on the cartoon back in the day.
This is what I think a great special missions book would look like. Dusty and Covergirl take out a terrorist cell, maybe associated with Cobra, maybe not. But a chance to spotlight small 2-5 person special ops teams to go and accomplish an objective in a single story comic. You could easily have rotating writers and artists. But it would be a great chance to spotlight the auxiliary characters whose specialties lie with very specific fields.
I'm going to start calling these team ups "Special Missions Commissions" I realized I have a few already. I've got a few more to do, maybe after they are all done I could collect them into a sketchbook and we can all wish each was a cover to a really cool story. sigh.
Dusty and Covergirl - 524
I have just a small amount of these large prints left. I will not be getting a second printing. They are limited to just 50 signed copies. If you're interested, email me and we can work out the transaction and details.

Avengers VS. Kang the Conqueror...
This was another blank cover that took quite a while to complete. I wish I had a better scan of it, but I had to do this on the road, and I think this was the best that I got. Some places got distorted and look like weird proportions. I don't typically make excuses, but this time I know the scan made some parts of this look a bit weird or "off". I have this great portable scanner. Its just a wand that you hold over the paper and slide it down the image while it's scanning. That's how I scan in most of my convention sketches and usually it works great. This time around it got a bit wobbly, and it shows in a few places.
Scanning aside, this was LOADS of fun to do!! This was the first multi-character blank that I've done with soooo many characters involved. I also tried out some new reflective techniques on the buildings in the background that I think worked alright. I'd like to try these on something that I had more time on. I got this done for pick up at Heroes Con, but they'd been waiting quite a while on this. So thanks again for your patience folks! These are all getting done, and I'm doing my best to make them worth the wait!
Avengers Vs Kang - 523
I think Kang and Wolverine were my favorite parts of this one.

Battle of the Lanterns...
This was an interesting sketch cover I worked on. It was completely blank, without a logo. This was a Green Lantern book, so it made sense to have these characters on it, and I didn't have to worry about drawing around the logo. At the same time, you don't know what's inside the book either, so I'm not sure if I prefer this kind or not.
The characters play a huge part of the last 6-7 years of Green Lantern, and even more so in recent years. Geoff Johns' run on Green Lantern did such an amazing job of expanding and explaining the Green Lantern corner of the DC Universe. It's what got me reading DC comics again. I've had a chance to draw Bleeze before, the succubus type character with the bone wings.
But I've never drawn the equally creepy Karu Sil, the yellow lantern without any lips and controls yellow constructs of these alien-doglike creatures.

Batman- Arkham....
Here's a Batman sketch/commission I did recently for my good friend Shane Simek. We were able to catch up again at the recent Heroes Con last weekend. He asked for the Arkham City/Asylum version where he looks a bit more armored. Fun to do, it's been awhile since I had the chance to draw Batman! I'd love the chance to work on a Batman, Nightwing, or Robin book sometime. I've always enjoyed the street level characters most.

GI JOE #5 Retailer's cover...
This is the cover for a specific store called Heroes and Fantasies down in San Antonio, Texas. I'll be going down for a store signing when the issue comes out (Sat June 29th). I hope anyone down there can make it out for a free sketch card and come to see me at the store! Fred Van Lente and other creators will be on hand as well for signing and sketching.
This was my first crack at the new uniforms and team that was assembled for the current GI JOE team. It's an interesting take on the group, and as always it's fun to draw these character in any incarnation!
BTW, Shipwreck is super intense now. Just a heads up...
GI JOE #5 - 518
Penciled Line art
My initial layout for the cover. In penciling it I realized I forgot to include Doc and Tunnel Rat. Luckily there was some room to squeeze them in on top of the MOBAT tank.
I think this would be a fun team to draw for sure.

Beach Head colors...
Here's Jason's Beach Head commission all colored up by the amazing Simon Gough. I've been working with Simon for nearly 2 years now. It's amazing how quickly that's gone. It's been great to see how quickly he's improved from being a great comic colorist to a phenomenal one! He's constantly pushing himself to learn more and try new things. This one in particular I got to see a mid-process shot as he was working out the complicated lighting for a piece like this.
He's been on a tear coloring up loads of my new pieces to be made as available prints. Remember any color piece you see on the blog, are ALL available as prints. Just email me to work out the transaction details.

Color Prints available to purchase. $15 prints plus $5 shipping for US customers!

Beachhead....many more to come!
Seemingly out of nowhere, I've had a slew of Beach Head requests. Some were convention sketches that I need to catch up on, and some were regular commissions that I need to wrap up. This was just one of them.
This one in particular is for Jason Wood, a co-host for the 11 O'Clock Comics Podcast. It's a great roundtable type of show with commentary on today's best comics. Jason's quite a character, and I find that I agree with his tastes in books quite often. He's a big GI JOE fan, and he's been a big supporter of my work on the show. Every little bit helps when it comes to promotion for a freelance artist, and I've appreciated that over the years.
So here's his Beach Head that I wrapped up finally just before C2E2. I literally have 4-5 more Beach Head sketches to do in the coming weeks, so we'll be seeing much more of this dude!

Even more Snake Eyes....
Here we go folks, just another day, another Snake Eyes drawing....which means today was awesome!
This is a good example of what I call a "head and torso" sketch that I offer at conventions. I usually try to still pick a pose or have their arms do something that conveys the character, instead of them just standing there. That's typically my approach to every commission or convention sketch, but it's more difficult on these waist-up sketches.
