"I'll run over it."

“I’ll run over it.”

So that was unexpected. It was actually just a little pinch in the back of my knee. A typical "I'll run over it" kind of pain. Especially since everything was fine while I was running, only afterwards it hurt a bit. On my last run in the mountains on Sunday, however, things changed dramatically halfway through. The knee shut down completely and I had to limp back to the station for the second half. At home, the knee was swollen, red and a full 3/10 on the pain scale.

A small bu...

The Difference Between a Road and a Path

Question

In life and running, would you rather move forward on a road or on a path?

I got the inspiration to distinguish between the two from Brad Stulberg's book "Master of Change" and find it quite interesting. But what's the difference between a road and a path?

In the words of Brad Stulberg

“A road is linear and aims to get you from here to there with as much haste and as little effort as possible. A road resists the landscape; instead of working with its environment, it plows over whatever is ...

Ebb and Flow of Life and Running Energy

You want to know what the Läufercup in Karlsfeld was like? The 5000m on tartan? The track race? Well, I didn't participate. The week was very exhausting for various reasons and on the morning of the race I knew one thing for sure: I would definitely not be able to run 5k on the track. So I didn't race.

All of my life's energy comes and goes like ebb and flow. This is as true for running as it is for anything else in life. I still haven't figured out exactly why that is and how long each phase las...

[+] Relationship Deep Talk with the Mountain

“Darling, we need to talk.”

When one spouse says this to the other, it usually doesn't mean anything good.

In this case, however, things are different. I'm not talking to my wife Lisa, I'm talking to the mountain. We haven't spoken in a long time, and there are some things that need to be cleared up. A deep talk is necessary. Maybe even overdue.

About a Trail Race and a Personal Best in the 5k

PART ONE: A Trail Race in Context

I Talked to the Mountain and She Let Me Pass

Last weekend I participated in my first post-marathon season race. I ran the K25, the 26k distance at the Innsbruck Alpine Trailrunning Festival (IATF). Here’s what happened.

[+] Unison – About Running Together

[Diesen Artikel gibt es auch auf Deutsch]

"Gotta stick together
Gotta stick together
Gotta stick together
Gotta stick together
Like Glue Like Crew"

SS Decontrol — Glue

In a previous Das Z [+] Letter, I wrote about running alone. As a runner, I was sort of born with it because in my early years of running, I didn't know anyone who shared the same passion. At least no one I would have wanted to run with. That all changed when I founded my own running brand, Willpower.

Even though I had resigned myself to ...
