Wrap-N-Zap Baked Potato Zapper & Veggie Steamer Supplies
Outer Fabric – 100% Cotton Only 1 fat quarter
Lining fabric – 100% Cotton Only 1 fat quarter
Pellon WZ-45 Wrap-N-Zap 1 package 100% Cotton Batting (45″ x 36″)
100% Cotton Sewing Thread
Wrap-N-Zap Baked Potato Zapper & Veggie Steamer Sewing Tutorial
Cut Fat Quarters and Wrap-N-Zap:
Cut one 9″ x 20″ rectangle from outside fabric.
Cut one 9″ x 20″ rectangle from lining fabric.
Cut one 9″ x 20″ rectangle from Wrap-N-Zap.
Place outer fabric and lining fabric, right sides together, with the Wrap-N-Zap batting to wrong side of lining fabric. Wonder Clip edges together.
Using a fabric marking pen , angle-mark bag top, with diagonal marked lines. Mark from top center to 5-1/4″ down top edge – along both long sides.
Mark a 3″ seam opening – about halfway down one long side.
Using a Rotary Cutter , trim away top corners, along angle-marked lines.
Use only 100% cotton fabrics, 100% cotton batting, and 100% cotton sewing thread, when sewing the Wrap-N-Zap Baked Potato Zapper & Veggie Steamer Bag!
Using a Schmetz Size 90 Jeans/Denim Needle, stitch around all sides and edges, leaving 3″ seam opening unsewn.
Trim seam allowances at corners, and turn bag right sides out – using a Point 2 Point Turner – to make crisp corners.
Fold bottom edge up to about 1″ below angled-top. Align edges and Wonder Clip.
Edgestitch side seams, through all layers, closing seam allowance opening in edgestitching. Backstitch at seams end, for reinforcement.
IMPORTANT! When cooking any vegetable wrapped in fabric, limit the time to two minute intervals. Pellon® does not recommend cooking on high longer than two minutes. When longer cooking time is needed, stop, turn the item while wearing oven mitts, then start again. Never leave a microwave unattended while cooking. Allow to cool before handling. Use only 100% cotton fabrics, batting, and thread.

Quarter-Square Triangles Quilt Block Sewing Tutorial
Prepare your fabrics! Pre-shrink fabrics by steaming and pressing, and steaming and pressing a second time. Then, stabilize fabrics for the sewing process by pressing and starching fabrics with June Tailor’s Starch Savvy. Press and starch, press and starch.
Follow the 1/4-square triangle blocks: Marked on Ruler in AQUA.
Cut crosswise fabric strips – from two fabrics– following the “cut” measurement printed on Ruler in AQUA. (Example: For a 4-1/2″ block, cut 5-1/4″ crosswise strips.)
Stack and align fabric strips, right side together with lightest fabric on top. Sub-cut into squares, using the corresponding “square cut” measurement noted on the Ruler in Aqua. (Example: For a 4-1/2″ block, cut 5-1/4″ squares.)
Use Clover’s No-Hassle Triangles Gauge to accurately and quickly mark blocks. Depress button to slide and align No-Hassle Triangles Gauge with the “cut” measurement of the 1/2-square triangle block size. (Example: For a 4-1/2″ block, set gauge at 4-1/2″ Half-Square Block squares.)
Set sewing machine for a straight stitch (2.0-2.5 mm). Attach a 1/4″ quilting presser foot. Straight stitch, guiding right side of foot along marked line. Note: Stitching line will be scant 1/4″ away from marked line.
After stitching along one side of marked line of all square sets, rotate chained blocks and stitch along the other side of the marked line. Note: Stitching line will be scant 1/4″ away from marked line.
At end of block, place next block on bed of sewing machine. Stitch continuously from one block to the next – “chainstitching” blocks continuously.
Clip threads between blocks. Cut blocks apart along diagonal marked line, using rotary cutter, ruler, and mat.
Press seam allowance flat to set seam, then press seam allowance toward dark fabric.
Each square set will make two 1/2-square triangle blocks!
Stack and align two completed 1/2-square triangle blocks, right sides together with opposite colors facing each other.
Use Clover’s No-Hassle Triangles Gauge to accurately and quickly mark blocks. Depress button to slide and align No-Hassle Triangles Gauge with the “cut” measurement of the 1/2-square triangle block size. (Example: For a 4-1/2″ block, set gauge at 4-1/2″ Half-Square Block squares.)

Block Fabrics
For the Nancy’s Red Elegance June Twirling Propeller Block, select the following two fat quarter fabrics from the NEW! Red Elegance Fat Quarter Bundle:
Red Elegance Diamonds Brick and Red Elegance Textured Berry
Prepare your fabrics! Pre-shrink fabrics by steaming and pressing, and steaming and pressing a second time. Then, stabilize fabrics for the sewing process by pressing and starching fabrics with June Tailor’s Starch Savvy. Press and starch, press and starch.

Cut Fabric for the Blocks
Create FOUR Twirling Propeller Blocks with just two fabrics, and Pellon Sof-Shape interfacing!
Cut sixteen 4-1/2″ background squares of Red Elegance Diamonds Brick.
Cut eight 4-1/2″ squares of Red Elegance Textured Berry – for propeller half-circles.
Cut eight 4-1/2″ squares Pellon Sof-Shape Fusible Interfacing.
For this June block of the m0nth in the NEW! 2020 Nancy Zieman Productions Nancy’s Red Elegance Block of the Month Mystery Quilt Series, we’re sharing Nancy Zieman’s techniques for creating perfect circles – without ever cutting a circle!
Construct the Blocks
Create the Center Propeller Appliqués
Fold interfacing square in fourths, rough-side out, and crease quarter marks with Roll ‘n Press .
Mark center of interfacing square with fine point marking pen or pencil.
Position 5-in-1 Sliding Gauge , circle disc in center of interfacing square.
With with fine point marking pen or pencil, trace a 4″ circle on glue dot-side of interfacing – or trace a 4″ circle using a drinking glass.
Place a 4-1/2″ square of Red Elegance Textured Berry to one 4-1/2″ square Pellon Sof-Shape Fusible Interfacing – matching smooth side of the fusible interfacing to right side of fabric. Pin.
Using a Size 75 Schmetz Quilting Needle, stitch directly on the marked line – using a slightly shorter stitch length.
It’s always easier to stitch smooth curves with a shorter stitch length, such as a 2.0 mm setting.
With a 45mm Rotary Cutting and Pinking Blade , trim away excess fabric, leaving about a 1/4″ seam allowance on the outside of stitching line.
Carefully cut away the center of the interfacing, leaving about 3/4″-1″ of interfacing at the inside of stitching line.
Use Clover’s Point 2 Point Turner, and smooth the curved edge as the interfacing is turned to fabric wrong side.
Press.
Fold circle in half, Press.
Using a rotary cutter, ruler and mat, cut circle in half.
Topstitch Propeller Appliqués to Block Background
Layer one half-circle propeller applique onto one background fabric square, centering appliqué along one edge. Pin.
Thread sewing machine with monofilament thread in the top thread of sewing machine, and regular all-purpose sewing thread in the bobbin.
Use a narrow blind hem stitch, blanket stitch, zigzag stitch, or straight stitch to “machine appliqué” the circle to the background.
Repeat steps above and make sixteen propeller quarter-blocks!
Repeat steps above and make sixteen propeller quarter-blocks!
Arrange 1/4–Blocks into Propeller Block
Arrange four 1/4–blocks into one Propeller Block, rotating quarter-blocks as shown.
Join 1/4–Blocks into Propeller Block
Place squares from right side column onto left side column, right sides together, pin.
Stitch block sets together, using scant 1/4″ seams. Kiss the next block set to the stitched block and chain stitch.
Clip threads between block sets.
Open blocks and press seams flat, then press to one side.
Layout block following diagram.
Place block set from top row onto bottom row, right sides together, pin.
Stitch block sets together using scant 1/4″ seam.
Press seam flat.
Open block and press seam to one side.
Repeat steps above and make FOUR June Propeller Blocks!

Prepare your fabrics! Pre-shrink fabrics by steaming and pressing, and steaming and pressing a second time. Then, stabilize fabrics for the sewing process by pressing and starching fabrics with June Tailor’s Starch Savvy. Press and starch, press and starch.
Follow the 1/2-square triangle blocks: Marked on Ruler in Purple
Cut crosswise strips of two fabrics the “cut” measurement printed on Ruler. (Example: For a 4-1/2” block, cut 4-7/8” crosswise strips.)
Stack and align fabric strips, right side together with lightest fabric on top. Subcut into squares, using the same “square cut” measurement on the ruler. (Example: For a 4-1/2” block, cut 4-7/8” squares.)
Use Clover’s No-Hassle Triangles Gauge to accurately and quickly mark blocks. Depress button to slide and align No-Hassle Triangles Gauge with the “cut” measurement of the 1/2-square triangle block size. (Example: For a 4-1/2” block, set gauge at 4-1/2” Half-Square Block squares.)
Set sewing machine for a straight stitch (2.0-2.5 mm). Attach a 1/4″ quilting presser foot. Straight stitch, guiding right side of foot along marked line. Note: Stitching line will be scant 1/4″ away from marked line.
After stitching along one side of marked line of all square sets, rotate chained blocks and stitch along the other side of the marked line. Note: Stitching line will be scant 1/4² away from marked line.
At end of block, place next block on bed of sewing machine. Stitch continuously from one block to the next – “chainstitching” blocks continuously.
Clip threads between blocks. Cut blocks apart along diagonal marked line, using rotary cutter, ruler, and mat.
Press seam allowance flat to set seam, then press seam allowance toward dark fabric.
Each square set will make two 1/2-square triangle blocks!
