Flower Stitch Presser Foot

Make flower designs automatically by using the Flower Stitch Attachment.A variety of patterns are obtained by using the Flower Stitch Foot.Beautiful patterns are sewn by changing stitch patterns and/or using threads of contrasting colors.This disc attachment turns the fabric in a circle as the design is being sewn.Variations are obtained by loosening the attachment screw and moving the disc to the plus + and minus – setting.

Pintuck Presser Foot

Sew evenly spaced pintucks quickly and easily.Features five grooves on the underside of the presser foot to create uniform rows of pintucking.When sewing multiple pintucks, the underside grooves will evenly guide the pintucks.Pintucks, or miniature tucked fabric folds, are created as fabric is sewn with a Pintuck Foot and a twin or double needle.We recommend using a 3mm twin or double needle along with the Pintuck Foot.

Cording Presser Foot

Simultaneously couch three strands of thread along side each other.Features three parallel top grooves for three strands of thread or lightweight cording.With a tweezers, feed strands of thread into the grooves of the foot.Threads are held in place with upper bar – to prevent tangling.Ideal for using utility and decorative stitches as the couching thread stitch.

 

Piping & Cording Presser Foot

The key element on this foot is a special hollowed-out channel on the foot’s underside.This channel has room for cording or other dimensional trims.Use this foot to create and attach cording or piping, then insert it in a seam!You’ll be amazed at how easy it can be to add cording to your next project!

Preshrink fabrics by steaming and pressing, and steaming and pressing a second time, and then spray press and starch fabric with June Tailor’s Quilter’s Starch Savvy — press and starch, press and starch.

 

 

 

 

In today’s sewing tutorial, we’re making our Sew-In-A-Cinch Gift Bag in size small. 

Choose one outer bag fabric and one accent fabric.

Cut Fabric and Supplies

Cut two 4″ x 10″ rectangles for accent fabric strips.

Cut two 10″ x 13″ rectangles for outer gift bag.

Cut two 30″ lengths of ribbon and angle cut short ends to prevent fraying.

 

Stitch

Align one 4″ x 10″ rectangle with one 10″ x 13″ rectangle, right sides together, at bag top as shown.Pin.Stitch or serve top edge forming bag front.

Press seam towards bag.Repeat steps above and stitch bag back.Serge or zig zag around all outside edges of front and back bag units.

 

Align bag front with bag back, right sides together, matching seams at sides. Pin.

Set Clover’s Supersize 5-in-1 Sliding Gauge at 6″, and mark a line at 6″ below top edge along one side seam using Clover’s Chaco Liner.Adjust Clover’s Supersize 5-in-1 Sliding Gauge to 6-3/4″ and mark a second line below first marking.Repeat steps above and mark opposite side seam.

Assemble and Finish

Pin bag front to bag back along side seams.

Stitch side seams only.

Be sure to skip stitching between marked lines.

Press seams open using a seam stick.

At bag bottom, use Nancy Zieman’s “Wrapped Corner” technique to “wrap” sideseams toward bag center – folding along previous stitched line.

At sewing machine use Clover’s Straight Tailor’s Awl/ Stiletto to assist feeding fabric layers under presser foot and stitch bag bottom seam.

Fold accent strip to bag inside, along seam.Press.

Set Clover’s Supersize 5-in-1 Sliding Gauge to 3-1/4″, and mark a line across accent strip at 3-3/4″ below top fold – using Clover’s Chaco Liner.Adjust Clover’s Supersize 5-in-1 Sliding Gauge to 2-1/4″ and mark a second line across accent strip.

Repeat steps above marking lines on reverse side. Pin.Stitch in the round along marked lines.

Turn bag right side out.Use Clover’s Point 2 Point Turner to push out lower corners.Press.

 

Create Cinching Ribbon Ties

Using Clover’s Clip n Glide Bodkin, insert one ribbon into casing opening along one side seam.

Insert ribbon all the way around bag and exit at the same opening as inserted. Remove Clip ’n Glide Bodkin.

Tie a knot near ribbon ends.

Using Clover’s Clip n Glide Bodkin, insert a second ribbon into opening at opposite side seam.

Insert ribbon all the way around bag and exit at the same opening as inserted. Remove Clip ’n Glide Bodkin.

Tie a knot near ribbon ends.

Pull ribbons at opposite ends to cinch bag closed!

Optional: Create Lower Gussets

Turn bag inside out.Stack lower seam to side seam.Adjust Clover’s Supersize 5-in-1 Sliding Gauge to 1-1/2″ and align center of gauge to center of side seam.Mark a straight line at 1-1/2″ inside lower corner, as shown.

 

Stitch along marked line.Repeat steps above and stitch opposite lower corner gusset.

Add gussets to any bag to create a bag with depth. Note: Adding 1-1/2″ gussets at lower bag will shorten bag height by 1-1/2″.

Turn bag right side out.Pull ribbons at opposite ends to cinch bag closed!

Dresden Sunflower Table Mat Sewing Tutorial

Sew a festive fall Dresden Sunflower Table Mat in an evening—made with the Easy Dresden Ruler Template and triple-dyed Bali Batik Palettes Harvest fabrics by Benartex. We’re sewing our Dresden Table Mat with the Bali Batik Harvest Fat Quarter Pack by Benartex.

You’re the designer, choose your favorite fabrics to create the Dresden Sunflower Table Mat, Team NZP chose the following.

Prepare your fabrics! Pre-shrink fabrics by steaming and pressing. Then, stabilize fabrics for the sewing process by pressing and starching fabrics with Quilter’s Starch Savvy.

 

We’re making our Dresden Table Mat with BaliBatik Harvest Fat Quarter Pack by Benartex, inspired by the above photo of Nancy Zieman’s original Sunflower Table Mat.

Choose six coordinating fabrics, five will be Dresden wedges, one will be for center circle.

Cut 5-1/2″ Crosswise Fabric from five fabrics.

Using the Easy Dresden Ruler Template cut four wedges from five fabrics of your choice.

Cut a total of 20 wedges per complete Dresden circle.Fold wedges right sides together, stitch wedges 1/4″.

Chain stitch wedges together.

Dresden Fall Sunflower Table Mat Sewing Tutorial

Using Clover’s “Quick Cut” Thread Cutter  or scissors, clip threads between wedges.

Using Clover’s Point 2 Point turner, turn points right sides out.

Using Clover’s NEW! Hot Hemmer Square, align seam and diagonal marking, press.

Repeat steps above with all wedges.

With right sides together, stitch Dresden wedges.

Continue to stitch wedges together.

Five Dresden wedges will create one quarter of the Dresden circle.Press seams open or to one side.

Use Tailor’s Clapper to set seam.

Repeat steps above to create four quarters for the Dresden circle.

Stitch top two assemblies together.Stitch bottom two assemblies together.

Stitch top and bottom assemblies together.

 

Create Center Circle

 

Cut a one 6-1/2″ square from coordinating fabric and Pellon’s ShirTailor Interfacing, right sides together, glue dots facing up.

 

We’re making a 6″ center circle.

Using Clover’s 5-in-1 Sliding Gauge and Frixion Pen create 6″ Circle.

Pin

Stitch using a short stitch around circle.

 

When using a pinking blade, cut on the back side of cutting mat.

Use a rotary pinking blade to remove excess fabric, approx. 1/4″ from stitching line.

Remove the excess interfacing from within the circles, leaving approx.1″ of interfacing.

Turn the interfacing to the wrong side.Use a Clover’s Point 2 Point Turner to smooth the curves.

Using June Tailor’s Eze-View Pressing Cloth press ShirTailor Interfacing to wrong side of fabric.

Center Dresden Sunflower.

Using Clover’s 5-in-1 Sliding Gauge, enter center circle onto sunflower assembly.

Pin and edgestitch with coordinating or monofilament thread. Choose a straight stitch, blanket stitch, or other decorative stitch.

Add Backing

 

Team NZP chose Wool Felt for backing.

Turn table mat wrong side up.Measure the diameter from valley to valley of matching wedge.

Subtract an 1/8″ to 1/4″ from this measurement.Using Clover’s Supersize 5-in-1 Sliding Gauge and Frixion Marking Pen, create backing circle on wool felt.

Cut out backing circle.

 

Pin or use fabric glue to hold backing in place.Place backing on wrong side of sunflower table mat.

Hand stitch Wool Felt backing in place around the perimeter, catching finished points.

Your Dresden Sunflower Table Mat is complete!
