Cut two 10″ x 16″ rectangles from Daisy Delight fabric for outer lower bag front and back.Cut two 1-1/4″ x 22″ rectangles from Daisy Delight fabric for handle accents.Cut two 12″ x 16″ rectangles from Domino Effect White on Black fabric for bag lining.Cut two 3″ x 16″ rectangles from Domino Effect Black on Black fabric for upper bag front and back.Cut two 2-3/4″ x 22″ rectangles from Domino Effect Black on Black fabric for bag handles.Cut two 3″ x 16″ rectangles from Pellon Flex-Foam 1- Sided Fusible for upper bag front and back.Cut two 10″ x 16″ rectangles from Pellon Flex-Foam 1- Sided Fusible for lower bag front and back.Cut two 1-1/4″ x 22″ rectangles from Pellon Flex-Foam 1-Sided Fusible for bag handles.Cut 1 yd. Fuse Fabrics to Pellon Flex-Foam

Following manufacturer’s instructions, fuse Pellon Flex- Foam to wrong side of 10″ x 16″ rectangles from Daisy Delight fabric – for lower outer bag front and bag back.

Following manufacturer’s instructions, fuse Pellon Flex- Foam to wrong side of 3″ x 16″ rectangles Domino Effect Black on Black – for upper outer bag front and back.

Following manufacturer’s instructions, fuse Pellon Flex- Foam to wrong side of 1-1/4″ x 22″ rectangles from Daisy Delight fabric – for bag handles.

Mark Bag Components for Stitching

Using a Frixion Marking pen, and a 6″ x 24″ ruler, mark a center stitching line 1-1/2″ from bottom long edge, on wrong side of 3″ x 16″ rectangle upper outer bag front assembly.

Repeat step above on upper outer bag back assembly.

Using Clover’s Chaco Liner, and a 6″ x 24 ” ruler, mark a 60° diagonal stitching line on right side of lower outer bag front.

Continue marking parallel lines at 1-1/2″ apart.

Rotate ruler and mark 60° lines in opposite direction.

Repeat marking steps above on lower outer bag back

Convert Machine to Single Needle Chain Stitch & Stitch Lower Bag Quilting–we’re showing stitches on a bernette b68 Overlock/Coverstitch Combo Serger.

With fabric right side up, stitch along marked lines using a single needle chainstitch–aligning marked line to center guideline marking on the toe of the presser foot, rotate and continue stitching on all marked lines, from anchor swatch onto bag lower front.Rotate and continue stitching on all marked lines onto bag lower front. Optional: Stitch from lower bag front assembly directly to lower bag back assembly.

Repeat step above with lower bag back assembly.

Stitch Upper Bag Decorative Center Stitch

Leave machine set for single needle chain stitch and replace standard overlock thread (black), thread chain looper with Sulky 12 wt. Cotton Thread (white).With 3″ x 16″ rectangle upper bag front assembly wrong side up, stitch along marked line with single needle chainstitch, aligning marked line to center guideline marking on presser foot toe.

Repeat steps above with 3″ x 16″ rectangle for upper bag back assembly.

Convert machine to a 3-Thread Wide Coverstitch.

Insert a size 90 Schmetz Chrome Topstitching Needle into right needle position.Insert standard overlock cone thread (black) into both needles and chain looper.With fabric right sides up, “kiss” one long edge of front upper bag assembly to one long edge of front lower bag assembly.

Flip bag front assembly over and re-stitch over previous coverstitching.

Repeat steps above and attache upper bag back assembly to lower bag back assembly.

Stitch Upper Bag Decorative Stitches

Convert machine to 3-Thread Narrow Coverstitch.Move needle to center needle position.Insert Sulky 12 wt. Cotton Thread (yellow) into chain looper.With bag assembly wrong side up, stitch along long side of center chain stitching – using the width of the presser foot as a guide.

Rotate bag assembly, roll the bag assembly as shown. and stitch second decorative stitching line.

Repeat steps above and stitch decorative narrow coverstitch stitching lines on bag back assembly.

Attach Jumbo Rickrack

 

Change both needle threads to coordinate with Rickrack!

With bag front assembly right side up, stitch Rickrack to bag, guiding presser foot down center bag seam.Do not cut threads.Lift presser foot and insert  bag back assembly right side up.Stitch Rickrack to bag back assembly.

Cut apart.Set aside

Following pattern or video instructions, create and attach bag handles, add lining, and complete your Clever Coverstitch Bag!

Before straight line machine quilting with  The Ultimate Quilt ‘n Stitch Presser Foot , first prepare quilt layers – for the quilting process.

Cut quilt backing and Pellon Fleece/quilt batting 4″-8″ larger than quit top.Tape quilt backing to cutting table, to prevent wrinkles during the quilt basting steps.

Secure, or “baste”,  quilt laters together with safety pins, or spray June Tailor’s Quilt Basting Spray to back side of Pellon Fleece, then turn fleece over and hand-press to wrong side of quilt backing.  Spray  June Tailor’s Quilt Basting Spray  to top side of Pellon Fleece and hand-press wrong side of quilt top to fleece.

Quilt is now ready for straight line machine quilting, with  The Ultimate Quilt ‘n Stitch Presser Foot! Attach The Ultimate Quilt ‘n Stitch Presser Foot to your sewing machine. NOTE: Some machines, including our Baby Lock, require a shank adapter – available from your local dealer.

Set machine for a straight stitch (2.5-3.0 mm stitch length), and insert a new Schmetz Size 75-90 Quilting Needle. 

 If you’ve opted to “spray-baste” quilt layers together using June Tailor’s Quilt Basting Spray, choose a new Schmetz Size 75-90 Super Nonstick Needle!

Prepare your fabrics! Pre-shrink fabrics by steaming and pressing. Then, stabilize fabrics for the sewing process by pressing and starching fabrics with Quilter’s Starch Savvy.

Assemble Quilt As You Go: Zippity-Do-Done Project Bags

Place wrong side of backing fabric to unprinted side of bag back substate. Make sure backing fabric completely covers printed area.Baste stitch around outside perimeter pattern line. NOTE: Do not iron.

 

Optional: Use June Tailor’s June Tailor’s Fabric Glue Stick or Quilt Basting Spray to spray baste substrate to backing fabric!

Place center fabric square piece one – right side up onto center printed blue square placement lines marked number one.

 

Printed blue lines are for placement only and are not stitching lines. 

Use June Tailor’s Fabric Glue Stick to hold fabric piece number one in place.

Place rectangle fabric piece two onto piece one, along blue placement lines, with right sides together.Stitch with a scant 1/4″seam along outer long edge of rectangle.Place rectangle fabric piece three onto piece one, along blue placement lines, with right sides together.Stitch with a scant 1/4″ seam along outer long edge of rectangle.Use June Tailors Magic Seam Wand  to press seam open. NOTE: Do not iron. Place rectangle fabric piece four along blue placement lines, with right sides together.Stitch with a scant 1/4″ seam along outer long edge of rectangle. Fold open seam.Place rectangle fabric piece five along blue placement lines, with right sides together.Stitch with a scant 1/4″ seam along outer long edge of rectangle. Fold open seam.

Use June Tailors Magic Seam Wand  to press seam open. NOTE: Do not iron.

Place rectangle fabric piece six along blue placement lines, with right sides together.Stitch with a scant 1/4″ seam along outer long edge of rectangle. Fold open seam.Use June Tailors Magic Seam Wand  to press seam open. NOTE: Do not iron.Place rectangle fabric piece seven along blue placement lines, with right sides together.Stitch with a scant 1/4″ seam along outer long edge of rectangle. Fold open seam.Use June Tailors Magic Seam Wand  to press seam open. NOTE: Do not iron.

Continue placing fabric rectangles following numbering, with right sides together.Stitch with a scant 1/4″ seam along outer long edge of rectangle. Fold open seams.Use June Tailors Magic Seam Wand  to press seams open. NOTE: Do not iron.Edgestitch around outer edges. Trim edges square.Set aside bag back assembly.

Place both bag upper front fabric rectangles to bag upper front substrate–with wrong sides to substrate–at blue placement lines. Glue-baste layers together with June Tailor’s Fabric Glue Stick. Stitch all three layers together with short vertical lines at about 1-3/4″ apart.

Insert upper front assembly into one long edge opening of Zippity-Do-Done. Edgestitch along long edge of Zippity-Do-Done–stitching through all layers.

Insert clear vinyl rectangle into remaining opening of Zippity-Do-Done. Edgestitch along long edge of Zippity-Do-Done–stitching through all layers.

Optional: Add decorative stitching, ribbon trim, or fabric trim embellishment to Zippity-Do-Done.

Layer bag front assembly wrong side to bag back assembly wrong side. Wonderclip along edges.Bind edges, through all layers, using your favorite binding methods.
