The Collaborator
Just a few thoughts on collaboration and how to find “The One”.
Ack. Really Jason? Reeeeeeally?

I can say that I am, without a doubt, one of the more difficult writers to work with. I’ve driven editors insane, caused publishers to roll their eyes upon hearing my name (it’s true!), and (accidentally) began to instigate the idea for other authors to give it all up (fortunately, they stuck with it and produced some amazing stuff).

Sorry.
It’s not as if...

Brief Update
Put a new review up over at SBR tonight. It’s the debut novel of Tiger Gray, calledNo Deadly Thing. I think the title was a bit misleading, since there were many deadly things about. It was passable, though I think that I was expecting much more. I’m growing more particular in the quality of novels I read these days, which I blame on guys like R. S. Belcher and Larry Correia.
My coauthor hasMurder Worldright now, so I’m busily working on other things. Notably,Darkling, which is the ever-changin...

March Madness Obligatory Update
My obligatory March Madness post…
I actually started off pretty good, and am still in good form thanks to some timely upsets I predicted. I’m in the top 50 in my group (out of 8,000?) so go me.
Best thing going: all four of my Final Four selections are alive and well.
Bad Thing That Happened: I missed Ohio State getting upset, and North Carolina losing.
Worst bracket: I originally was going to pick the Midwest (I had Wichita State losing in the next round to Louisville, and Duke growing a pair) u...

Novella Sold
Kaiju Apocalypse, a novella I wrote with Eric S. Brown, was sold this morning to Severed Press. I’m very happy at this, since it’s been about a month since I sold anything and I was beginning to get antsy once more. Now I’m working on two things–Prince of the Rotted, my Babylonian zombie story, andMurder World, another SF book with Eric.
I also got word last night thatThe Finder’s Keeperdid not win the 2014 Darrel Award for Best Short Story. It was First Runner-up, which is good. I was just su...

Brief Random Update
Random late night update!
Brad Torgersen (really nice guy and author) recently talked about his decision to publish with Baen Books (one of my favorite publishers). Interesting read from both a professional point and a personal one. I’d recommend that you check it out, and wish Brad all the best with his future endeavors (why? because the dude canwrite).
My collab projects with Eric Brown are nearing completion (well, one of them is, at least).Kaiju Apocalypseis nearing the end with not too muc...

Freehold Available
Three and a half years ago, I listed Michael Z. Williamson’sFreeholdas one of the most influential books I’ve ever read. That still remains true to this day.
TodayFreeholdis available for free on Kindle over at Amazon. “Yeah, cool, so?” you might say. Well, there’s another reason I’m posting this as well.
A limited edition hardcover run is currently going on for this book.
A little “rumored” backstory here…
Freeholdwas published on Dec 30, 2003. If you know how the publishing industry works, you...
Stupid Busy
I’ve been stupidly busy the past few weeks (to steal a line from my friend Gerry). This is going to be a long update, so you may want to grab something to drink, or let the dog out.
First off, let me say that Mysticon 2014 was an absolute blast. It went off without a hitch, and I actually got sleep this time around. The con hotel booked me in a room with two beds, and the beds weren’t big enough to for two people (well, big enough for two people to sleep in… other things were probably possible...

Branding Iron
So two days ago it became official: I had to drop a convention.
I hate doing that, though I had a sneaky suspicion that it might happen this year, since I had booked more cons than normal. Unfortunately, it was Ravencon which was thrown under the bus this year, and while I’ve attended Ravencon in the past and liked it, I simply couldn’t afford it this year.
I’ve got to get this story done. I’ve been seriously procrastinating this week, and last week, and last month… it’s only 7 weeks overdue. S...

Sweet
So it’s award season, which means I typically ignore them, since I never get nominated for anything.
Never say never, apparently.
My short story,The Finder’s Keeper, is up for Best MidSouth SF/F Short Story at the Darrell Awards. That was quite a surprise, and very, very cool (I like the Darrell Awards…. not as snooty as other awards, and they vote on what people actually read).
The winner will be announced at MidSouthCon on March 22, 2014.
Frickin’ Sweet!
