New Book Out
Had a book come out last week and forgot to mention it.
My first Tobias Fox short story,“Nightwalker“, is the very first story in John Manning’sTerror By Gaslightanthology. I’ll be the first to admit that Tobias Fox stories are less about horror and more about an extraordinary man dealing with said horrors. Good story with lots of little twists and turns. You might want to pick it up.

Meet the Character — Vincente Huerta
(I was tagged in this by Amanda S. Green. She introduced her favorite character, Ashlyn Shaw, star ofVengeance From Ashes, here.)
As I walked into the bar, I began to wonder just what the hell I was getting myself into this time. Sure, I’m the author, and I create these people, but some of them seem to be able to slip the reins and run around without proper supervision. Vincente Huerta, the main character from Murder World: Kaiju Dawn, ship captain, smuggler, and all around pain in the ass, was...

Digital Watermarking the Grave
Yesterday, over on Facebook, I kinda sorta touched on the new HarperCollins digital watermark, which is another updated rendition of their failed attempts (thus far, apparently) at a secure and impenetrable DRM. Those pesky pirates are costing publishers a lot of money, so of course the natural response is to put even more money into a system that will be obsolete in about four months. Most of us who know anything about computers will roll their eyes when reading the description of what this...

A Good Thing
It’s very strange to forget that you have a website. But since this past week I’ve been elbow deep inMurder World: Kaiju Duskas well as my untitled piece for editor John Manning, combined with my article over at theMad Genius Club, I’ll just shrug my shoulders and say “I’m busy!”
It’s a good thing, really. It means that I’m actually getting work done.

Brief Friday Update
Four hours of sleep is not enough, apparently. It’s not conducive to writing. I’m falling behind schedule. It’s a good thing that the publisher isn’t rushing this sequel or else I could be in some trouble.
I have a guest post up at Mad Genius Club. It was based on some thoughts I had yesterday afternoon while I was out mowing the lawn. I also might have some amazing new in the next 30 days if all goes to plan. But since “plans” and “Jason” usually work at cross-purposes, this is one of those “...

The Great Labor Day Weekend Promotional Sale
The Great Labor Day Sale Has Begun!
Originally posted on madgeniusclub:
Or “this is what happens when a bunch of indies decide to band together”.
A couple of weeksago, Sarah and I started talked about the long weekend coming up and what we could do to try to leverage it into a promotional event. What started as a simple discussion has turned into a sales event that, to be honest, boggles my mind. If I counted right, more than 30 authors signed up and more than 80 titles are included...

Hugo 2014
2014 Hugos — Congrats towards the winners! No, I’m not bitter that none of my nominees won. I think some of the anti-“OMG the Wheel of Time is a single entry WTFBBQ!!11!!” and the anti-VoxDay backlash hurt the voting for quite a few deserving entrants but again, since this was the most voted-on Hugo in recent memory (perhaps all time; numbers are hard to come by from the “olden” days), you can’t be too upset with that. Not unless you really, really wanted to win a Hugo or have a lot of energy...

Influences
I was looking over my map of Weslande (my fantasy world I’m building around the story ofI, Godslayer) and I saw that I had made a massive cathedral made of crystal in the middle of a vast desert. I was sort of surprised (I don’t remember doing it, but I make so many maps I wouldn’t be surprised if I did it while half-asleep) and started thinking about other maps I’ve made over the years. Since I’m a pack rat with regards to notebooks and such (I have almost 80 notebooks with random story idea...
