PSA: Coming Down to the Wire on the Health Care Vote. You Have a Voice

If you're a US citizen of voting age, then you can help out in the fight for health care reform. This makes me think of the end of "Horton Here's a Who," when all the whos are shouting, "We are here, we are here, we are HERE!" trying to make themselves heard before their dust speck gets boiled. The insurance companies have deep pockets and very active lobbies and they are fighting tooth and nail, with the best scare tactics they can muster, to keep us in the same broken system that works so...

Today Best Typo

You know it's time to stop for the day when this looks right:

"He was well-dressed tonight— more of Seregil's money well spent— and had rinks on nearly every finger and a rather nice pearl danging from one earlove."

And the mome raths outgrabe.

All I've got's a pocketful of flowers on my grave . . .

Thanks to the ease and compactness of iTunes technology, my music collection is fairly large, which means I forget about many things I have and get to rediscover them all over again. Tom Waits, I've missed you, man, with your gritty voice and accordions and chicken coop recording studios. Listening to his "Night on Earth" album now, one of my favorites. I remember nothing about the movie, but love the music.

Am I procrastinating? Yes, I am.

Audible News/Pronunciation

I spent an hour on the phone last night with a person from Audible.com, going over the correct pronunciations of various names and words. It's the first time it's been done this extensively for the Nightrunner books, so White Road will be the first "Author Authorized" pronunciation version. If you get them wrong, it will be my fault! I don't know what the dogs thought as I sat in my office slowly intoning "BEH-ka" "CAR-ee" "MY-kum" "Roo-ETH-ah" "SER-eh-gill (like a fish gill)" "ya-KOH-bin",...

All Nightrunner and Tamir books available at Audible UK

I don't remember if this has come up before, but I recently heard from a UK fan who thought the books were not available over there in audio form. They are, from Audible UK, and White Road is coming soon!

Does this help European fans? I don't know what the coding problems might be with audio books.

E-Book Question

Just wondering if people are buying e-book versions of my books, and if so, how is the quality of readability?

Happy Birthday Alec í Amasa

Well, not today, actually, but in the scene I just worked on. I think I may have told you that Alec's birthday, in our calendar, is on July 4th, while Seregil shares mine, October 20. Why? Because those are dates I can remember! I think Seregil's is on the 20th. Oh dear. Have I forgotten? I've forgotten if I've forgotten and I can never find anything in my notes . . . .

Wanders off, blithering.

Steampunked Mac

I've read a little steampunk and enjoyed a lot of it. I'm devouring Cherie Priest's Boneshaker at the moment. It's excellent so far.

But what really grabs me is the stuff! All that brass and wood. My latest discovery is a Mac mini set up that uses not only beautiful woods and brass, but granite and leather, too. Truly inspired.

Coffee, anyone?

The Coffee Party. Their liberal, pinko, progressive, subversive, unpatriotic manifesto? "As a member or supporter of the Coffee Party, I pledge to conduct myself in a way that is civil, honest, and respectful toward people with whom I disagree. I value people from different cultures, I value people with different ideas, and I value and cherish the democratic process."

What a concept. *hit "Join"*
