Calling the Rhiminee Irregulars

OK folks, this group's reigning technophobe/idiot (that being me) has a question. Years ago I lost the digital file for Luck in the Shadows and my publisher does not have one. Is there any way to scan the book into digital form that can be searched and printed, or would it have to be retyped into a document?

No ConBust after all :-(

Oh damn! I misread the intinerary. My flight was TODAY! And I didn't notice until an hour ago when I tried to sign in at the airline and confirm my flight. My apologies to the ConBust staff and to everyone who was planning to see me there. Totally my fault.

Time

I like being at conventions. I hate getting ready and getting to them. It eats up a day, getting ready. Needing to get up at an ungodly hour to make a plane means I wake up every hour all night after dreaming I've overslept. Eight to ten hours on a plane and in airports makes for a long day. But the minute I actually get to the con, it's fun. I'm not in the fun part yet. ConBust, here I come!

Monday at the Getty Villa with Bob Place

Monday my friend Fang Ren and I met Tarot artist Robert Place in Malibu to tour the Getty Villa, a reconstruction of a beautiful Roman villa which houses J. Paul Getty's ancient art collection. As some of you may remember, Bob is the artist who wants to do a Nightrunner Tarot, and this is the house on which I based Yhakobin's villa.

Here are the two cards Bob has designed so far:

Alec, The Fool

Seregil, The Magician/Trickster

With the publishing market still in the doldrums, we're not having m...

Today's Buddhist Thought

I was going through my photo files and found this. Taken by me early one morning at the Japanese Garden in San Francisco in 2008 and Photoshopped. Click on for larger images.

Lost Illustration

This is driving me crazy. I have a vague memory of an illustration of the "Queen of Hearts, she baked some tarts" poem that shows, among other things, a small dog in a ruff sitting up on its hindquarters, begging. I have found one illustration from that series, but not that particular one. Or I've hallucinated the whole thing. Does this ring a bell with anyone?

LJ Problems?

Is anyone else having trouble with LJ running very slowly and throwing up error messages?

Today's Buddhist Thought

One of my favorite Zen stories:

A man on horseback comes galloping down the road at top speed and the people at the roadside think he must be on an important mission of some sort.

"Where are you going?" they call out to him.

"I don't know!" he shouts as he passes. "Ask the horse!"

The horse represents our habit energy, those actions we go through time and again without even thinking about them, many of them destructive, or at least unproductive—watching too much tv, eating too much, procrastinat...

Online Reviews/Feedback

I've noticed something over the past few years, and you can tell me if I'm wrong, but it seems to be a trend, at least on Amazon: people seem to be more likely to leave bad reviews these days than good ones. And if they leave a bad one, it's really bad. And it's not just me. I check in on my friends' books every now and then, too. Yesterday I found one by some ass hat who left her a one-star and a nasty note because he didn't like the price. He hadn't read the book and stated it proudly. Like...
