At the risk of starting a firestorm . . .

Doug, an academic himself, sent me this article from the Chronicle of Higher Education, which takes academic writers to task for obscure, jargonistic writing at the expense of comprehension. I agree with most of what she says, having dealt with academic writing of that sort as a student and as an editor. One of the most salient points is that it makes a lot of informative thinking inaccessible to a wider readership, which some academic writers appear to disdain. Much of it applies to fiction...

She Got Legs

In an effort to cast off my slugatude and tone up for the cruise, I've started taking a brisk daily walk. I hate going the gym and classes, but a good long walk leaves me energized. I alternate dogs. My goal, as recommended by my doctor is 30-45 min five times a week. So I started mapping out a route that would take the right amount of time. Curious, I drove it the other day to measure it. 2.1 miles. Which means I'm walking at about 4miles/hour. OK, so it's not a marathon, but I'm still quit...

Hooray!!!!!!

He's back! Excellent start.




Loved the time skips. Love Amy at all ages! She's a bit Catherine Tate.

I loved the continuity of him adjusting to the new form. Seemed to take less time this time. Loved the "check out the face, still not ginger." But David Tennant still has the best "new form" line: 'What was I, a U-Boat captain?" or something to that effect.

Amazed at how quickly I took to Matt. There is quite a lot of the previous Doctor in him, the frenetic manner and all the running.
