Από το “Είστε μέσα για εγκληματικές πράξεις, όχι για αντίσταση κ. Κασιδιάρη!” του 2015 στη σημερινή αγωνία του ΜέΡΑ25 για την πολιτική επιτυχία της Χρυσής Αυγής – βίντεο
Το 2015, από τα υπουργικά έδρανα, έλεγα στον Κασιδιάρη πως τα αυγά του φιδιού διώκονται για εγκληματικές πράξεις, όχι για την δήθεν αντίστασή τους στα Μνημόνια. Σήμερα, εν αναμονή της απόφασης του δικαστηρίου, στο ΜέΡΑ25 αγωνιούμε. Αγωνιούμε γιατί ακόμα και να καταδικαστούν, πολλές από τις ιδέες των Χρυσαυγιτών ζουν και βασιλεύουν εντός της Βουλής, εντός της κυβέρνησης Μητσοτάκη.
Η ΑΝΑΚΟΙΝΩΣΗ ΤΟΥ ΜέΡΑ25: H KATAΔΙΚΗ ΤΟΥΣ ΕΙΝΑΙ ΜΟΝΟ Η ΑΡΧΗ
Καθώς αναμένουμε με κομμένη την ανάσα την καταδίκη των δολοφόνων της «Χρυσής Αυγής», δεν ξεχνάμε την πολιτική επιτυχία τους. Μπορεί, ευτυχώς, να μην τους βλέπουμε πια στα έδρανα της Βουλής, όμως οι βασικές ιδέες που εκείνοι εισήγαγαν στην Βουλή όχι μόνο παραμένουν εντός του Κοινοβουλίου αλλά και πρωταγωνιστούν στο κυρίαρχο αφήγημα κομμάτων εξουσίας.
Την απήχηση της «Χρυσής Αυγής» στους “νοικοκυραίους” ζήλεψαν το 2012 οι υπουργοί, τότε, του ΠΑΣΟΚ κκ. Χρυσοχοΐδης και Λοβέρδος και δεν δίστασαν να παραβιάσουν βασικά ανθρώπινα δικαιώματα διασύροντας οροθετικές γυναίκες για να «προστατεύσουν», δήθεν, τους «νοικοκυραίους» που μίσθωναν τα καχεκτικά κορμιά τους.
Την ξενοφοβία της «Χρυσής Αυγής» ,που είχε στοχοποιήσει τους μετανάστες στις γειτονιές μας, δικαιώνει ο κ. Μητσοτάκης όταν δίνει εντολή στα στελέχη του Λιμενικού μας να παραβιάζουν το Διεθνές Δίκαιο «επαναπροωθώντας» ετοιμόρροπες βάρκες γεμάτες κατατρεγμένους.
Το ΜέΡΑ25 θα είμαστε έξω από το Δικαστήριο, αναμένοντας μαζί με όλες και όλους τους αντιφασίστες την καταδίκη των δολοφόνων της «Χρυσής Αυγής». Όταν, όπως ελπίζουμε, αυτή ανακοινωθεί, θα γιορτάσουμε για λίγο αλλά αμέσως μετά θα ξαναρχίσουμε τον αγώνα για να ξηλωθούν οι ιδέες των αυγών του φιδιού από το πολιτικό σύστημα.

It is time to prosecute Julian’s persecutors – The Belmarsh Tribunal
This is the time to change tack. We have spent too long defending an innocent man for leaking power’s guilty secrets. We have protested too long against their right to destroy Julian’s body so as to silence his voice. We have pleaded for too long for them to stop torturing a man who dared reveal to us crimes our governments are perpetrating , on our behalf, behind our backs. We have spent too long warning the good people out there who can’t be bothered that first they came for Assange, then they will come for others that reveal their dirty secrets, and that eventually there will be no one to defend them – no one to defend those who, today, can’t be bothered about Julian. We have used too much energy trying to impress journalists who fail so spectacularly to support Julian today that, in so failing, they are jeopardising their own profession, they are neutering themselves, they are allowing themselves to be added to the hit list, that they are consenting to their own emasculation.
ENOUGH!
If we are truly in the business of allowing unalloyed truth to prevail, to have the final word, we must make the transition from defending Julian, from warning against the dire consequences of his extradition for him, for us, for the world, from explaining to the apathetic that their apathy equals their powerlessness, to turning the tables on the criminals that are behind his persecution.
We must turn the current court case into a trial of those who ordered young soldiers to kill civilians, to maim and to murder journalists, to shroud whole communities in tears and in pain.
We must turn Julian’s prosecutors into defendants and allow the grandest of juries out there, a well-informed Demos, to pass fair judgment on them
This is not hard to do: Thanks to Wikileaks, the evidence is at out fingertips, at everyone’s disposal.
Is this not why the guilty are demanding Julian’s extradition? Is this not why the murderers are plotting to entomb Julian in a supermax coffin for 175 years?
Friends, we can do it!
If Dimitrov in his trial, that took place in Nazi Germany itself, could turn the tables against Goring and Goebbels, surely, we can turn the current court case into a trial of the military-industrial-national-security complex. Noting that even the Nazi courts gave Dimitrov greater opportunity to speak in his defence than Julian has inside his glass box, we can nevertheless use what is left of liberal democracy’s instruments to take the fight to his accusers with a Glorious, a Magnificent, a Righteous, a Collective WE ACCUSE YOU!
For this reason, I salute the Belmarsh Tribunal. I salute today’s event. I salute all of you who are part of it either as speakers or as active observers. Above all, I salute Julian – for having sacrificed so much so that we can ACCUSE THOSE WHO TRULY DESERVE TO BE ACCUSED, as is our duty.

Εκτός από την Χρεοδουλοπαροικία υπάρχει κι η Μοναξιά, η Αποξένωση, των συνανθρώπων μας- Εναρκτήρια Ομιλία στην 1η Κεντρική Επιτροπή του ΜέΡΑ25
Σήμερα θα απευθυνθώ σε εσάς που ο κλήρος, η κάλπη, η ιστορική συγκυρία αποφάσισε ότι θα είστε τα μέλη της πρώτης μας Κεντρικής Επιτροπής. Δώσατε, δίνουμε, ένα μάθημα εσωκομματικής συμμετοχικής δημοκρατίας και διαφάνειας. Σήμερα και αύριο, μέσα από τις ασφαλείς, κρυστάλλινα διαφανείς αλλά και μυστικές ηλεκτρονικές ψηφοφορίες μας δίνουμε κι ένα μάθημα του πως η τεχνολογία μπορεί να γίνει εργαλείο του Δήμου αντί για άλλο ένα όργανο πλουτισμού των ολίγων εις βάρος της Δημοκρατίας.
Είναι κι ένα μήνυμα προς τον Πρόεδρο της Βουλής: Αν ένα μικρό κόμμα αγαπητέ κ. Πρόεδρε μπορεί να διαβουλεύεται σε πλήρη σύνθεση διαδικτυακά, τότε δεν υπάρχει δικαιολογία η Βουλή των Ελλήνων να μην λειτουργεί σε πλήρη σύνθεση διαδικτυακά θέτοντας σε αδικαιολόγητο κίνδυνο προσωπικό και βουλευτές, επιμένοντας στις θλιβερές δια ζώσης συνεδριάσεις της ολομέλειας ενώπιον ελάχιστων βουλευτών – μια πρακτική και μια εικόνα που πλήττει τον Κοινοβουλευτισμό.
Φίλες και φίλοι που μας βλέπετε από το σπίτι σας, συνοδοιπόροι μέλη της ΚΕ, η πατρίδα μας, μια χώρα που προ πανδημίας ήταν πιασμένη έτσι κι αλλιώς στις δαγκάνες της χρεοκοπίας, σήμερα βυθίζεται καθημερινά πιο βαθιά σε αυτήν. Κι η κυβέρνηση; Ακούγοντας τον Πρωθυπουργό και τους υπουργούς του μου έρχεται κατά νου το παλιό εκείνο ανέκδοτο από την εποχή του 1ου Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου:
Το αρχηγείο του γερμανικού στρατού στέλνει τηλεγράφημα στο αρχηγείο του συμμαχικού του αυστρο-ουγγρικού στρατού. Γράφουν οι γερμανοί στρατηγοί στους αυστριακούς: «Στο δικό μας μέτωπο η κατάσταση είναι σοβαρή αλλά όχι καταστροφική». Και τότε η Βιέννη απαντά: «Στο δικό μας μέτωπο η κατάσταση είναι καταστροφική αλλά δεν είναι σοβαρή.»
Ακούγοντας τον κ. Μητσοτάκη και τους υπουργούς του να μιλούν για την οικονομία, αλλά και την κατάσταση στην δημόσια υγεία, στην δημόσια παιδεία, στην κοινωνία γενικότερα, είναι σαν να ακούμε τους Βιεννέζους στρατηγούς: «Η κατάσταση είναι καταστροφική αλλά όχι σοβαρή», λένε στον εμβρόντητο λαό. «Την έχουμε υπό έλεγχο», επιμένουν την ώρα που δεν κάνουν τίποτα για να την αντιμετωπίσουν: Ούτε κουρέματα φόρων, δανείων, οφειλών – ούτε θεσμικές αλλαγές – ούτε προσλήψεις στα νοσοκομεία ή στα σχολεία).
Όχι κ. Μητσοτάκη. Οι πολίτες δεν μπορούν να στηριχτούν σε μια κυβέρνηση που επιδίδεται με μανία στην καθυστέρηση της έλευσης των πραγματικών αριθμών για να πείσει ότι η καταστροφική κατάσταση δεν είναι και τόσο σοβαρή. Σε μια κυβέρνηση που αποψιλώνει το δημόσιο ΕΣΥ την ώρα που το εκθειάζει – που στρέφεται εναντίον των δασκάλων και των μαθητών τους οποίους έχει παρατήσει στη μοίρα τους – που δίνει πακτωλούς δημόσιου χρήματος στην ολιγαρχία, στα αρπακτικά ταμεία, στους κλινικάρχες, στους στυγνούς ολιγάρχες – για να μην αναφερθώ και στο δυναμίτη στα θεμέλια της δημοκρατίας – τα μαζικά μέσα αποβλάκωσης.
Σκεφτείτε το φίλες και φίλοι: Μια κυβέρνηση που λαδώνει κατά το δοκούν καναλάρχες με χρήματα των χρεοκοπημένων πολιτών για να παίζουν διαφημίσεις που είναι υποχρεωμένοι από τον νόμο να παίζουν έτσι κι αλλιώς δωρεάν, είναι μια κυβέρνηση που ολισθαίνει γρήγορα προς τον Ολοκληρωτισμό.

Ο λόγος που υπάρχουμε, ο λόγος που οι πολίτες έστειλαν το ΜέΡΑ25 στη Βουλή, είναι ότι, από το βράδυ της 5ης προς την 6η Ιουλίου του 2015, τότε που ο λαός μας ανετράπη από την κυβέρνησή του ακριβώς την στιγμή του θριάμβου του επί του Φόβου, επί της Ταπείνωσης και επί της Ολιγαρχίας-δίχως-σύνορα, μετά από εκείνη τη στιγμή το ΜέΡΑ25 είμαστε η ελπίδα ενός ΟΧΙ στην μονιμοποίηση της Χρεοδουλοπαροικίας και ενός ΝΑΙ σε λογικές, προοδευτικές, άμεσα εφαρμόσιμες λύσεις εντός του συστήματος που είναι απαραίτητες ΤΩΡΑ ώστε, αμέσως μετά, να προχωρήσουμε στην αμφισβήτηση του συστήματος – στην ρεαλιστική συζήτηση για την απαραίτητη μετάβαση στον μετακαπιταλισμό.
Μέρες πριν τις εκλογές που μας έβαλαν στη Βουλή τον Ιούλιο του 2019, στην Κεντρική Προεκλογική Ομιλία των Αθηνών, είχα δώσει δυο υποσχέσεις:
Πρώτη υπόσχεση ήταν ότι εντός και εκτός Βουλής θα επιδιδόμασταν σε ΜΟΝΟΜΕΤΩΠΟ ΑΝΕΝΔΟΤΟ ΑΓΩΝΑ εναντίον του παρασιτικού καθεστώτος που θα οικοδομήσει η ΝΔ πάνω στο 4ο Μνημόνιο του ΣΥΡΙΖΑ. Το πράξαμε. Κανείς δεν αμφισβητεί ότι δίνουμε καθημερινά αυτό τον αγώνα.
Δεύτερη υπόσχεση ήταν ότι, παράλληλα με τη δουλειά μας εντός και εκτός της Βουλής, το ΜέΡΑ25 θα επανιδρυόταν – πως από μια ομάδα ανθρώπων που δεν δεχθήκαμε να υποταχθούμε θα εξελισσόμασταν σε καλά οργανωμένο, βαθιά συμμετοχικό, ανοικτό, δημοκρατικό κόμμα που σε τίποτα δεν θα θύμιζε τα υπόλοιπα κόμματα.
Νομίζω ότι και οι δύο υποσχέσεις έχουν τηρηθεί.

Δε θα το δείτε στα κανάλια της ολιγαρχίας. Όμως η δραστηριότητα του ΜέΡΑ25 ήταν καταιγιστική. Μπορεί άλλοι να έχουν τον τίτλο της αξιωματικής αντιπολίτευσης. Όμως το ΜέΡΑ25 είμαστε αξιωματικά η αντιπολίτευση – τόσο προς την κυβέρνηση όσο και εν γένει απέναντι στο Μνημονιακό Τόξο ΝΔ-ΣΥΡΙΖΑ-ΚΙΝΑΛ που κυβερνά εκ μέρους της τρόικας που εξυπηρετεί την Ολιγαρχία-Δίχως-Σύνορα.
Εντός Βουλής, αποδείξαμε ότι αυτή η φωνή άξιζε να είναι στη Βουλή. Η Κ.Ο. του ΜέΡΑ25:
Κατέθεσε περισσότερες από 900 Ερωτήσεις και πάνω από 20 Τροπολογίες όπως η κατάργηση της προκαταβολής φόρου, η κατάργηση του ΕΝΦΙΑ για τους φτωχότερους με παράλληλη αύξηση για τους κατέχοντες, η μείωση ΦΠΑ, των φόρων στις μικρές και μεσαίες επιχειρήσεις
Καταθέσαμε πλήρη πρόταση πραγματικά αναλογικού εκλογικού νόμου την ώρα που είμασταν το μόνο κόμμα που σεβάστηκε τους απόδημους προτείνοντας δημιουργία εκλογικών περιφερειών εξωτερικού
Καταθέσαμε τη μοναδική δίκαιη και τεχνοκρατική λύση για το όνειδος των Κόκκινων Δανείων, την προστασία της 1ης κατοικίας και των μικρομεσαίων και την εκδίωξη από τη χώρα των αρπακτικών ταμείων
Απαιτήσαμε το βέτο της Ελλάδας στα ευρωπαϊκά όργανα, την ώρα που η κυβέρνηση στέλνει τους υπουργούς της να λένε ΝΑΙ ΣΕ ΟΛΑ
Προτείναμε την Περιφερειακή Συνδιάσκεψη των χωρών της Ανατολικής Μεσογείου ως μόνη διέξοδο από τις διμερείς συνομιλίες Αθήνας-Άγκυρας που οδηγούν σε Αδιέξοδο και Περιπέτεια
Καταθέσαμε σε δημόσια διαβούλευση «Ολοκληρωμένη Πρόταση Νόμου για την Προστασία των Πολιτών από τις Επιπτώσεις της Εντεινόμενης Οικονομικής Κρίσης» και από το 5ο Μνημόνιο – μια πραγματική απάντηση του τι θα κάναμε αν είμασταν κυβέρνηση ώστε το Ελληνικό Δημόσιο να επανακτήσει τα απαραίτητα για την προστασία των πολιτών εργαλεία από την τρόικα και την ολιγαρχία
Ήμασταν οι μόνοι που καταψηφίσαμε τις συμβάσεις για τις εξορύξεις, τονίζοντας ότι κάθε εξόρυξη είναι μια πληγή τόσο για την εθνική ασφάλεια όσο και για την προοπτική η χώρα να μην χάσει το τραίνο της Πράσινης Τεχνολογικής Επανάστασης.
Έξω από τους τοίχους της Βουλής, δώσαμε μάχες για την προστασία των αδύναμων από τα αρπακτικά, από την πανδημία, από την απελπισία. Αυτό κι αν δε θα το δείτε στις τηλεοράσεις σας…
Με το ΜέΡΑ Αλληλεγγύης συνεισφέρουμε οικονομικά, από την κρατική επιχορήγηση του κόμματος και τους μισθούς των βουλευτών μας, στα ασθενέστερα θύματα της πανδημίας
Με τη δημοσίευση του Euroleaks φέραμε κάθε πολίτη της ΕΕ μέσα στην αίθουσα της αυθαιρεσίας των Eurogroup
Με το κάλεσμα για Παλλαϊκή Συστράτευση σφυρηλατούμε την ενότητα στη βάση κοινού προγράμματος αντίστασης
Με τις ακριβείς οικονομικές προβλέψεις μας για την εξέλιξη της οικονομικής κρίσης διαφωτίζουμε την κοινωνία για αυτά που πραγματικά συμβαίνουν – και για το 5ο Μνημόνιο που ετοιμάζεται
Με το podcast 25 λεπτά και το ΜέΡΑTV διεκδικούμε την κάλυψη του κενού πληροφόρησης που επιβάλουν
Ως κόμμα που αποτελεί αναπόσπαστο κομμάτι του μοναδικού πανευρωπαϊκού διεθνικού DiEM25 δεν πάψαμε να συνδέουμε τους αγώνες εναντίον της εγχώριας ολιγαρχίας με τους αγώνες εναντίον της ολιγαρχίας-δίχως-σύνορα. Με τους γερμανούς, βρετανούς, ισπανούς, ναι, με τους τούρκους συνοδοιπόρους μας, συνεργαζόμαστε καθημερινά. Ακούσατε τον συγκινητικό τους χαιρετισμό. Το ίδιο στο πλαίσιο της Προοδευτικής Διεθνούς βαδίζουμε μαζί με τον Τσόμσκι, τον Λούλα, τον Κορρέα, την κορυφαία συγγραφέα Αρουντάτι Ρόι, εφήβους από την Γκάνα και την Κένυα, συνοδοιπόρους στην Ιαπωνία. Μόλις χτες, μαζί με τον Roger Waters, τον Λούλα και άλλους συμμετέχοντες στην ΠΔ διατρανώσαμε τη φωνή μας, ναι, και την φωνή του ΜέΡΑ25, κατά της εξόντωσης του φίλου και συνοδοιπόρου Julian Assange ο οποίος σαπίζει αυτή τη στιγμή στη φυλακή του Μπέλρμας.
Αλλά δεν μένουμε στα διαδικτυακά, στα διεθνή, στα πεδία όπου μας πλαισιώνουν γνωστοί, λαμπεροί άνθρωποι. Το ΜέΡΑ25, ένα χρόνο τώρα, είναι στους δρόμους:
Σταθήκαμε στο πλευρό των φοιτητών που υπερασπίστηκαν το πανεπιστημιακό άσυλο απέναντι στα ΜΑΤ του Χρυσοχοϊδη.
Στηρίξαμε τον απεργιακό αγώνα των εργαζομένων στον ΟΤΕ, ενάντια στις ελαστικές σχέσεις εργασίας.
Βαδίσαμε στο πλευρό των εργαζομένων της ΛΑΡΚΟ, αντιστεκόμενοι στο ξεπούλημα του ορυκτού μας πλούτουαπό την κυβέρνηση.
Υποστηρίξαμε με την παρουσία μας τους κατοίκους του Πειραιάπου αγωνίζονται ενάντια στο επικίνδυνο έργο επέκτασης του λιμανιού του Πειραιά μέσα στην θάλασσα από την Cosco, καθώς και για την απομάκρυνση των δεξαμενών καυσίμου της Oil One από τη Δραπετσώνα.
Σταθήκαμε απέναντι στο κύμα εθνικισμού και ξενοφοβίας απαιτώντας να πάψει η Ελλάδα να είναι χώρα-δεσμοφύλακας γεμάτη με κλειστά στρατόπεδα που ντροπιάζουν την ανθρωπότητα όπως η Μόρια.
Διαδηλώσαμε ενάντια στο χουντικής έμπνευσης νομοθέτημα για την ουσιαστική απαγόρευση των διαδηλώσεων.
Συμμετείχαμε ενεργά στο support art workersπου διεκδίκησε τη στήριξη των καλλιτεχνών από το κράτος τη στιγμή που η κυβέρνηση αδιαφορεί επιδεικτικά για την επιβίωσή τους.
Είμασταν πρωτοπόρο κομμάτι της μεγάλης συγκέντρωσης που ζητούσε την απόσυρση του περιβαλλοντοκτόνου νομοσχέδιου Χατζηδάκη.
Αντιταχθήκαμε στα σχέδια για ΣΔΙΤ στο νερό.
Διεκδικήσαμε τη στήριξη της δημόσιας υγείαςμε προσλήψεις μόνιμου προσωπικού και ενίσχυση του εξοπλισμού των νοσοκομείων, μαζί με όλους τους εργαζόμενους στην Υγεία.
Πιέσαμε σε κάθε επίπεδο για την αυτοοργανωμένη ΒΙΟΜΕ.
Σταθήκαμε στο πλευρό των κατοίκων που δίνουν μάχη για το νερό στις Σταγιάτες Πηλίου, στο πλευρό όσων υπερασπίζονται την ιστορική μνήμη στη μαρτυρική Κάνδανο, και εκείνων που αποκαλύπτουν το έγκλημα της καύσης σκουπιδιών και της αλόγιστης αλλά ιδιαίτερα επικερδούς αποκομιδής απορριμμάτων.
Είμασταν στην πρώτη γραμμή μαζί με το λαό της Κέρκυρας που διαδήλωσε για την προστασία του βιοτόπου του Ερημίτη, που τα αδηφάγα συμφέροντα δε δίστασαν να κάψουν μετά από ένα μήνα.

Πράγματι, η πρώτη προεκλογική υπόσχεση, ότι θα επιδιδόμασταν σε ΜΟΝΟΜΕΤΩΠΟ ΑΝΕΝΔΟΤΟ ΑΓΩΝΑ εναντίον του παρασιτικού καθεστώτος που οικοδομεί η ΝΔ πάνω στο 4ο Μνημόνιο του ΣΥΡΙΖΑ, τηρήθηκε. Όσο για τη δεύτερη υπόσχεση για τη επανίδρυση, την μετεξέλιξη του ΜέΡΑ25 σε καλά οργανωμένο, βαθιά συμμετοχικό, ανοικτό, δημοκρατικό κόμμα που σε τίποτα δεν θα θύμιζε τα υπόλοιπα κόμματα, τηρείται και αυτή. Ιδίως σήμερα, με την πανηγυρική μας πρώτη Κεντρική Επιτροπή σε εξέλιξη.
Μπορεί ο κορωνοϊός να μας φρέναρε, αλλά δεν μας κατέβαλε. Μπορεί το Συνέδριό μας να αναβλήθηκε ένα χρόνο για τον Μάη του ’21. Όμως, η διαδικασία οικοδόμησης συμμετοχικών, δημοκρατικών διαδικασιών σε όλη τη χώρα, αλλά και εκτός, δεν σταμάτησε.
Συμμετοχικά φτιάξαμε ένα πρωτοποριακό Καταστατικό το οποίο αφού το ψηφίσαμε πανευρωπαϊκά (Ποιο άλλο κόμμα θα σκεφτόταν, θα τόλμαγε, κάτι τέτοιο;), το θέσαμε σε άμεση λειτουργία. Σήμερα γευόμαστε τον γλυκό καρπό αυτής της προσπάθειας. Είχαμε υποσχεθεί ότι θα εντάξουμε στις κομματικές μας διαδικασίες την κληρωτίδα που, όπως στην Αρχαία Αθήνα, σπάει τους ολιγαρχικούς εκλογικούς μηχανισμούς. Το κάναμε: 15 από εσάς είστε εδώ με κλήρωση. Βασιζόμαστε πάνω σας για να μην δημιουργηθούν «μηχανισμοί». Γιατί, ξέρετε συνοδοιπόροι, όπως είχε πει ο Albert Camus: «Ο σκλάβος ξεκινά απαιτώντας ισονομία και καταλήγει να θέλει να φορέσει κορώνα και να κρατήσει σκήπτρο.» Αυτή την τάση στόχο έχει να ακυρώσει η κληρωτίδα. Και δεν σταματάμε στην ΚΕ: 2 μέλη της ΚΕ θα κληρωθείτε για να στελεχώσετε την ΠΓ ενώ άλλοι δύο κληρωτοί ή κληρωτές θα στελεχώσετε την Επιτροπή Δεοντολογίας και Τήρησης του Καταστατικού. Κι όταν έρθει η ώρα του Συνεδρίου, έως και το 40% των συνέδρων θα είναι κληρωτοί!
Και τώρα; Τώρα ήρθε η δική σας ώρα. Ως μέλη της ΚΕ, έχετε ρόλο σημαντικό, μεγάλο, καίριο. Από τη μία, είστε μέλη του ανώτατου οργάνου λήψης αποφάσεων. Αλλά όχι μόνο αυτό. Είστε και κάτι άλλο: Είστε τα Μέσα Μαζικής Επικοινωνίας μας. Μπορεί τα κανάλια της Ολιγαρχίας να λειτουργούν – όπως συμβαίνει στα ολοκληρωτικά καθεστώτα – ως μέσα μαζικής παραπλάνησης, για να μην πω αποβλάκωσης. Εμάς όμως δεν μας πτοούν. Θα ακουστούμε! Αλλά για να ακουστούμε πρέπει εσείς, η κάθε μία σας, ο κάθε ένας σας, να κάνετε σκοπό της καθημερινής σας ζωής η φωνή μας να φτάσει σ’ εκείνους που την έχουν ανάγκη.

Σήμερα, δεν θα σας κουράσω με μια εφ’ όλης της ύλης αποτίμηση των προβλημάτων και των προκλήσεων που αντιμετωπίζει ο λαός μας. Ούτε θα αναφερθώ στις ολοκληρωμένες πολιτικές για την προστασία των πολιτών και την πράσινη τεχνολογική επανάσταση που προτείνει το ΜέΡΑ25. Το έκανα ενδελεχώς στην ομιλία μου στη Διεθνή Έκθεση Θεσσαλονίκης πριν δεκαπέντε μέρες. Σήμερα θέλω να σας μιλήσω απλά, άμεσα, στην κάθε μία, στον κάθ’ ένα για ένα και μόνο θέμα:
Πως πρέπει ως μέλη της ΚΕ να προσεγγίζουμε τους λαβωμένους, θυμωμένους, προβληματισμένους συνανθρώπους μας εκεί «έξω». Και,
Πως πρέπει να ερμηνεύουμε τη συμπεριφορά των ανθρώπων της εξουσίας ώστε να τους απαντάμε χωρίς θυμό αλλά σταθερά και λογικά.
Επιτρέψτε μου να αρχίσω με αυτούς – με τους ανθρώπους που καταλαμβάνουν θέσεις κάποιας εξουσίας.
Το 2015, κοιτάζοντας στα μάτια τους τροϊκανούς, θυμήθηκα τα λόγια της σπουδαίας Χάνα Αρέντ η οποία αφιέρωσε τη ζωή της να αναλύει την λογική και τις πρακτικές του Ναζισμού και εν γένει της Απολυταρχίας. Αντικρύζοντας κτήνη όπως ο Άιχμαν, η Αρέντ τόλμησε να πει μια μεγάλη κουβέντα: Αντίθετα με άλλους, δεν έβλεπε στο πρόσωπό του Άιχμαν το Κακό. Όχι, έβλεπε απλά έναν άνθρωπο μπανάλ – έναν άνθρωπο που το μόνο που τον ένοιαζε ήταν η καριέρα του, το πως δεν θα κάνει το ο,τιδήποτε ξενίσει τους προϊσταμένους του, πως θα φροντίζει ώστε όλα να γίνονται σύμφωνα με τας υποδείξεις – ανεξάρτητα από το πόσα θύματα άφηνε πίσω της η εφαρμογή αυτών των υποδείξεων. Κοιτάζοντας στα μάτια τους τροϊκανούς πράγματι αυτό είδα: Πόσο μπανάλ ήταν.
Αυτό βλέπουμε και σήμερα στα πρόσωπα της τρόικας εσωτερικού, του Μνημονιακού Τόξου, των εκπροσώπων τους είτε είναι στρατευμένοι δήθεν δημοσιογράφοι είτε εκπρόσωποι αρπακτικών ταμείων, είτε αγορητές της ΝΔ, του ΣΥΡΙΖΑ, του ΚΙΝΑΛ: Πόσο μπανάλ, πόσο βαρετοί γίνονται έτσι που λειτουργούν ως διεκπεραιωτές ειλημμένων αποφάσεων.
Κι εδώ έγκειται η ομορφιά του ΜέΡΑ25: Κανείς σας δεν ήρθε στο κόμμα μας για τα οφίτσια, για να κάνει καριέρα. Εσείς που εκτεθήκατε ώστε να βρίσκεστε στην ΚΕ μάλλον το αντίθετο υποστήκατε: Έκλεισαν πόρτες επαγγελματικές για εσάς, μοιραστήκατε μέρος της δαιμονοποίησης που η τρόικα εσωτερικού επιφύλαξε για όσους επέμεναν να κρατάνε ζωντανό εκείνο το ΟΧΙ – να θυμίζουν στην ολιγαρχία εκείνο το 5μηνο που οι ολιγάρχες ένιωσαν το έδαφος να τρίζει κάτω από τα πόδια τους.
Πάμε τώρα από τους θλιβερούς ανθρώπους της δήθεν εξουσίας στο πως αντιμετωπίζουμε τους λαβωμένους συνανθρώπους μας εκεί «έξω». Πολλοί αναρωτιούνται: Καλά, γιατί τους ψηφίζουν; Πως καταφέρνει να ηγεμονεύει η Νέα Δημοκρατία που έρριξε τη χώρα στα βράχια της χρεοκοπίας συνεπικουρούμενη από το ΠΑΣΟΚ; Το μεγαλειώδες εκείνο 62% που εξαφανίστηκε;
Φίλες και φίλοι. Συνοδοιπόροι. Όπως ένα όμορφο λουλούδι, είναι πολύ εύκολο να ποδοπατήσει κανείς μια στιγμή λαϊκής ανάτασης. Το δύσκολο είναι να συμπέσουν όλες οι συνθήκες που χρειάστηκαν για να φυτρώσει και να αναπτυχθεί το λουλούδι αυτό – να συμπέσουν ο σωστός σπόρος, στο σωστό χώμα, με τον σωστό καιρό. Το εύκολο ήταν εκείνο που έκανε ο κ. Τσίπρας εκείνο το βράδυ: Να ποδοπατήσει εκείνο το λουλούδι και μάλιστα στο όνομα της Αριστεράς. Σε μια μόνο στιγμή, οι άνθρωποί μας που μόλις είχαν συνειδητοποιήσει τη δύναμή τους για πρώτη φορά μετά από δεκαετίες, σύρθηκαν λαβωμένοι στις φωλιές του – ιδιωτικοποίησαν τον πόνο τους – σιχάθηκαν, άλλη μια φορά, την πολιτική – και επέστρεψαν στον αγώνα για την επιβίωση γλύφοντας τις πληγές τους, τυλιγμένοι στο μαύρο πέπλο της στενοχώριας.
Το ΜέΡΑ25 δημιουργήθηκε για να σηκώσει αυτό το μαύρο πέπλο από τα πρόσωπα των ανθρώπων, να τους πείσει ότι δεν υπάρχει τελική ήττα, ότι δεν είμαστε όλοι ίδιοι, ότι μπορούμε . Μπήκαμε στη Βουλή και το κάνουμε. Αλλά δεν αρκεί. Πρέπει να το πετύχουμε στις γειτονιές, στα σπίτια, στις καρδιές των γνωστών μας, εκεί που άγνωστοί μας παλεύουν να κρατηθούν πάνω από την επιφάνεια ενός βούρκου που τους ρουφά προς τα κάτω.
Αυτός είναι, λοιπόν, ο δικός σας ρόλος. Ο ρόλος του κάθε μέλους της Κεντρικής Επιτροπής μας.
Η στρατηγική του Μνημονιακού Τόξου είναι η εργαλειοποίηση της στενοχώριας. Η δική σας στρατηγική πρέπει να είναι ο θρίαμβος της προσωπικής επαφής επί της στενοχώριας. Ο εκδημοκρατισμός του ατομικού χώρου των ηττημένων συνανθρώπων μας. Χωρίς την παραμικρή διάθεση κατήχησης ή νουθέτησής τους.
Κλειδί για να ξεκλειδώσουμε τις ψυχές τους πρέπει να είναι ο σεβασμός σε αυτόν με τον οποίο διαφωνούμε. Για να δώσω ένα παράδειγμα, πάρτε συμπολίτες μας που διαδηλώνουν ώστε 15χρονα ορφανά προσφυγόπουλα να μην πάνε στο ίδιο σχολειό με τα παιδιά τους. Είναι εύκολο να θυμώσουμε μαζί τους. Δεν έχουμε όμως το δικαίωμα. Πρέπει, πριν τους πούμε τη θέση μας, να αφουγκραστούμε τον καϋμό που τους προκαλεί το συναίσθημα του να είναι κανείς πρόσφυγας στην ίδια του τη χώρα, στην «Χρεοδουλοπαροικία η Ελλάς». Μόνο τότε θα καταφέρουμε να τους πάρουμε μαζί μας, να τους πείσουμε ότι αυτά τα 15χρονα όχι μόνο δεν είναι απειλή αλλά θα γίνουν σύντομα οι καλύτεροι πρεσβευτές της Ελλάδας, οι καλύτεροι φίλοι των παιδιών τους.
Από την Χάνα Αρέντ που προανάφερα έχω μάθει και κάτι άλλο. Προσπαθώντας να αναλύσει πως γεννιέται ο φασισμός, η απολυταρχία, ξεκινά την ανάλυσή της συμβατικά μελετώντας τον ρόλο της προπαγάνδας, τον δηλητηριώδη συνδυασμό της ξενοφοβίας και της μπανάλ γραφειοκρατίας. Αφού τα μελέτησε όλα αυτά, τελικά κατέληξε να διακρίνει τον ένα, τον μεγαλύτερο, τον πιο επικίνδυνο σύμμαχο της απολυταρχίας και του φασισμού: Την Μοναξιά!
«Η απομόνωση κι η έλλειψη κανονικών κοινωνικών σχέσεων» έγραψε η Χάνα «δημιουργεί την ανάγκη προσχώρησης σε κάποιο ολοκληρωτισμό. Η μοναξιά, ή να το πω διαφορετικά η εμπειρία του να μην ανήκεις καθόλου στον κόσμο που σε περιβάλει είναι η πεμπτουσία των ολοκληρωτικών κυβερνήσεων. Έτσι κατασκευάζονται οι εκτελεστές. Έτσι προετοιμάζονται τα θύματά τους.» Να προσέξουμε συνοδοιπόροι: Δεν είναι μόνον η Ύφεση που προϋπήρξε της πανδημίας και την οποία η πανδημία γιγάντωσε. Είναι κι η μοναξιά, ιδίως των ηλικιωμένων που σήμερα απομονώνονται στα σπίτια τους, στα γηροκομεία.
Θυμάστε το βράδυ της 3ης Ιουλίου του 2015, τότε που η λαοθάλασσα του ΟΧΙ πλημμύρισε την Πλατεία Συντάγματος; Ξέρετε τί μου έμεινε από εκείνο το βράδυ; Ότι δεν ήμουν μόνος. Το ίδιο συναίσθημα είδα στα μάτια του κάθε συνοδοιπόρου. Έλαμπαν τα μάτια τους. Φώναζαν: Δεν είμαι πια μόνη. Δεν είμαι πια μόνος. Για αυτό τον ένα λόγο δεν θα συγχωρέσουμε ποτέ εκείνους που, δυο βραδιές μετά, συνθηκολόγησαν με την τρόικα κρυπτόμενοι πίσω από το ψεύδος ότι ο λαός δεν ήταν έτοιμος για την ρήξη: Την στιγμή που η συλλογικότητα και ο κοινός αγώνας θριάμβευε ξαναβούτηξαν τον κόσμο μας στον βούρκο της μοναξιάς, της εξατομίκευσης, της ιδιώτευσης.
Νιώθοντας παρατημένοι από εκείνους που τους ξεσήκωσαν στη βάση πανανθρώπινων ιδεωδών, μόνοι τους πια, διπλά ταπεινωμένοι, αντίκρυ σε μια ακόμα σκληρότερη Χρεοδουλοπαροικία αποφασισμένη να τους κάνει να μετανιώσουν που, έστω και για λίγο, σήκωσαν κεφάλι, πολλοί από αυτούς κατέρρευσαν, παραδιδόμενοι λίγο-λίγο σε άλλα αφηγήματα κάποια φοβικά κάποια μισανθρωπικά.
Όπως έλεγε κι η Αρέντ, ο εθνικισμός κάνει ανθρώπους που βρίσκονται στο έλεος της μοναξιάς να νιώθουν έστω και λίγο ότι κάποιος τους ακούει, μιλώντας απ’ ευθείας στους φόβους τους, στο θυμό τους – λέγοντάς τους πως μόνο εκείνος, ο εθνικισμός, τους σκέφτεται – αντίθετα με τους κοσμοπολίτες που νοιάζονται για τους άλλους, τους ξένους. Αυτό έκανε η ηγεσία του ΣΥΡΙΖΑ εκείνο το βράδυ του Δημοψηφίσματος: παρέδωσε τους ανθρώπους μας από την χαρά του διεθνιστικού πατριωτισμού στην απόγνωση του εθνικιστικού ψευτο-πατριωτισμού. Δεν χρειαζόταν πολύ για να φτάσουμε σήμερα να βρίσκουν μια κάποια ανακούφιση στα μαντάτα ότι η ολιγαρχία αγοράζει Ραφάλ και φρεγάτες – κι ας ξέρουν κατά βάθος ότι αυτή η αγορά θα γιγαντώσει κι άλλο την λιτότητα που τους καταστρέφει χωρίς να κάνει τη χώρα ουσιαστικά ασφαλέστερη.
Αυτό το πλαίσιο που έφτιαξε ο ΣΥΡΙΖΑ είναι εκείνο που εκμεταλλεύεται ο κ. Μητσοτάκης σήμερα. Η κυβέρνησή του έχει στη διάθεσή της εξαιρετικούς προπαγανδιστές. Την ώρα που εφαρμόζει πολιτικές που βαθαίνουν την φτώχεια, την ταπείνωση, την μοναξιά, την απαξίωση και την αναξιοπρέπεια των ανθρώπων μας, οι προπαγανδιστές τους ξέρουν πως να μετατρέπουν την Μοναξιά σε τυφλό Θυμό όλων-εναντίον-όλων ιδίως προς τον ξένο, προς τον λίγο πιο σκούρο, προς τους νέους που τολμούν να διαφέρουν ή να διαμαρτύρονται.
Για αυτό το λόγο, η κάθε μία, ο κάθε ένας από εμάς πρέπει να βγούμε εκεί έξω, στην τοπική κοινωνία, να μιλήσουμε με τους γείτονές μας, με τους περαστικούς που μπορεί να μας συμπαθούν μπορεί και όχι. Αφού πρώτα τους αφουγκραστούμε, αφού τους κοιτάξουμε στα μάτια, να αγγίξουμε την ψυχή τους δίνοντάς τους κουράγιο και μια νέα προοπτική. Εκεί έξω, ανάμεσα στους συμπολίτες μας, θα βρούμε την Ταπείνωση, την Μοναξιά, την Απαξίωση και την Αναξιοπρέπεια να περπατούν ως τραμπούκοι στους δρόμους των πόλεών μας, να ροβολάνε τα μονοπάτια της επαρχίας μας, και να σπέρνουν παντού την Απαισιοδοξία, τη Διχόνοια και τη Δυσαρέσκεια από την οποία μόνο η Ολιγαρχία επωφελείται.
Συνοδοιπόροι, μακρυά από εμάς τα λόγια τα εύκολα, τα λαϊκιστικά, τα μεγάλα. Αντίθετα με τον λόγο των φασιστών, της δήθεν αντιπολίτευσης και της λαϊκιστικής ολιγαρχίας που είναι απλοϊκός λόγος, ο λόγος του ΜέΡΑ25 είναι σύνθετος. Σύνθετος λόγος το ΜέΡΑ25 από την μία, αποκαρδιωμένοι, συγχυσμένοι, ασταθείς αποδέκτες από την άλλη που αφήνονται στο ψέμα ακόμα κι όταν ξέρουν ότι είναι ψέμα. Είναι δύσκολο το εγχείρημά μας. Αυτό όμως έχουμε ταχθεί να κάνουμε: Να εμπλουτίσουμε την πολιτική ζωή με λόγο σύνθετο, ορθό, κατανοητό και ειλικρινή. Με μόνα μέσα μαζικής ενημέρωσης εσάς, τα στελέχη και τα μέλη του ΜέΡΑ25.
Μην σκιάζεστε όμως συνοδοιπόροι. Τελικά, ΘΑ ΑΚΟΥΣΤΟΥΜΕ! Αλλά θέλει δουλειά πολλή σε όλες τις γωνιές της χώρας. Ιδίως από τους μόνους πομπούς του μηνύματός μας: Εσάς!

Συνοδοιπόροι,
Στο μικρό χρονικό διάστημα παρουσίας του στα πολιτικά πράγματα, το ΜέΡΑ25 δεν παύει να καταθέτει προτάσεις. Προτάσεις που αποκρύπτονται από τα συστημικά μέσα. Γιατί αν δεν τις κρύψουν, αναπόφευκτα θα εκθέσουν όσα κόμματα κυβέρνησαν, κυβερνούν ή απαιτούν να ξανακυβερνήσουν για να ξανακάνουν τα ίδια.
Εμείς όμως ήρθαμε για να μείνουμε, είτε τους αρέσει είτε όχι. Με τη στήριξη των πολιτών στο ΜέΡΑ25 – και τη στήριξη του ΜέΡΑ25 στην κοινωνία.
Με τα λάθη μας. Με τις παραλείψεις μας. Με την απειρία μας. Αλλά και με το μεράκι μας. Την αγνότητά μας. Την συνέπειά μας. Με το πάθος μας για δικαιοσύνη, ελευθερία και δημοκρατία. Για την υπεράσπιση των αδύναμων. Για τους ανθρώπους. Όχι για τα αξιώματα.
Γι’ αυτό σας καλώ να κοιτάξετε ψηλά. Προς την νίκη. Ναι, ξέρω, υπάρχει κάτι το ελκυστικό σε μια χαμένη υπόθεση. Τί πιο ρομαντικό από μια μεγαλειώδη ήττα σε πόλεμο που είναι αδύνατον να κερδηθεί; Όχι όμως για εμάς! Εμείς δεν είμαστε από αυτούς τους ρομαντικούς. Είμαστε από τους άλλους. Όπως για τον Πικάσο η ζωγραφική ήταν πολεμικό εργαλείο, έτσι για εμάς ο ρομαντισμός, η πολιτική αξιοπρέπεια κι ο πολιτισμός είναι όπλα που χρησιμοποιούμε για να νικήσουμε.
Στόχος μας δεν είναι το 5% ή το 10%. Στόχος μας είναι να μεταλλάξουμε την κοινωνία. Σκοπός μας είναι το ΜέΡΑ25 να παραδώσει την εξουσία στον Δήμο που η ολιγαρχία έχει αποκλείσει από την δήθεν δημοκρατία της. Για να το πετύχουμε όμως αυτό πρέπει να κερδίσουμε τις εκλογές. Αυτοδύναμα!
Ναι, έχουμε δρόμο μπροστά μας. Όμως κάθε Μαραθώνιος, κάθε Σπαρτακιάδα, ξεκινά από ένα βήμα.
Το βήμα που κάνετε σήμερα ως μέλη της 1ης μας Κεντρικής Επιτροπής μπορεί να είναι τέτοιο. Από εσάς εξαρτάται να αδράξατε την μέρα, να κάνετε το ΜέΡΑ25 το εργαλείο που για πρώτη φορά θα εντάξει τον ενεργοποιημένο, αυτοδιοικούμενο Δήμο, τους φτωχούς και τους αδύναμους που είναι η πλειοψηφία, στο επίκεντρο της Δημοκρατίας.
Είναι κι ένα μήνυμα προς τον Πρόεδρο της Βουλής: Αν ένα μικρό κόμμα αγαπητέ κ. Πρόεδρε μπορεί να διαβουλεύεται σε πλήρη σύνθεση διαδικτυακά, τότε δεν υπάρχει δικαιολογία η Βουλή των Ελλήνων να μην λειτουργεί σε πλήρη σύνθεση διαδικτυακά θέτοντας σε αδικαιολόγητο κίνδυνο προσωπικό και βουλευτές, επιμένοντας στις θλιβερές δια ζώσης συνεδριάσεις της ολομέλειας ενώπιον ελάχιστων βουλευτών – μια πρακτική και μια εικόνα που πλήττει τον Κοινοβουλευτισμό.
Φίλες και φίλοι που μας βλέπετε από το σπίτι σας, συνοδοιπόροι μέλη της ΚΕ, η πατρίδα μας, μια χώρα που προ πανδημίας ήταν πιασμένη έτσι κι αλλιώς στις δαγκάνες της χρεοκοπίας, σήμερα βυθίζεται καθημερινά πιο βαθιά σε αυτήν. Κι η κυβέρνηση; Ακούγοντας τον Πρωθυπουργό και τους υπουργούς του μου έρχεται κατά νου το παλιό εκείνο ανέκδοτο από την εποχή του 1ου Παγκοσμίου Πολέμου:
Το αρχηγείο του γερμανικού στρατού στέλνει τηλεγράφημα στο αρχηγείο του συμμαχικού του αυστρο-ουγγρικού στρατού. Γράφουν οι γερμανοί στρατηγοί στους αυστριακούς: «Στο δικό μας μέτωπο η κατάσταση είναι σοβαρή αλλά όχι καταστροφική». Και τότε η Βιέννη απαντά: «Στο δικό μας μέτωπο η κατάσταση είναι καταστροφική αλλά δεν είναι σοβαρή.»
Ακούγοντας τον κ. Μητσοτάκη και τους υπουργούς του να μιλούν για την οικονομία, αλλά και την κατάσταση στην δημόσια υγεία, στην δημόσια παιδεία, στην κοινωνία γενικότερα, είναι σαν να ακούμε τους Βιεννέζους στρατηγούς: «Η κατάσταση είναι καταστροφική αλλά όχι σοβαρή», λένε στον εμβρόντητο λαό. «Την έχουμε υπό έλεγχο», επιμένουν την ώρα που δεν κάνουν τίποτα για να την αντιμετωπίσουν: Ούτε κουρέματα φόρων, δανείων, οφειλών – ούτε θεσμικές αλλαγές – ούτε προσλήψεις στα νοσοκομεία ή στα σχολεία).
Όχι κ. Μητσοτάκη. Οι πολίτες δεν μπορούν να στηριχτούν σε μια κυβέρνηση που επιδίδεται με μανία στην καθυστέρηση της έλευσης των πραγματικών αριθμών για να πείσει ότι η καταστροφική κατάσταση δεν είναι και τόσο σοβαρή. Σε μια κυβέρνηση που αποψιλώνει το δημόσιο ΕΣΥ την ώρα που το εκθειάζει – που στρέφεται εναντίον των δασκάλων και των μαθητών τους οποίους έχει παρατήσει στη μοίρα τους – που δίνει πακτωλούς δημόσιου χρήματος στην ολιγαρχία, στα αρπακτικά ταμεία, στους κλινικάρχες, στους στυγνούς ολιγάρχες – για να μην αναφερθώ και στο δυναμίτη στα θεμέλια της δημοκρατίας – τα μαζικά μέσα αποβλάκωσης.
Σκεφτείτε το φίλες και φίλοι: Μια κυβέρνηση που λαδώνει κατά το δοκούν καναλάρχες με χρήματα των χρεοκοπημένων πολιτών για να παίζουν διαφημίσεις που είναι υποχρεωμένοι από τον νόμο να παίζουν έτσι κι αλλιώς δωρεάν, είναι μια κυβέρνηση που ολισθαίνει γρήγορα προς τον Ολοκληρωτισμό.

Ο λόγος που υπάρχουμε, ο λόγος που οι πολίτες έστειλαν το ΜέΡΑ25 στη Βουλή, είναι ότι, από το βράδυ της 5ης προς την 6η Ιουλίου του 2015, τότε που ο λαός μας ανετράπη από την κυβέρνησή του ακριβώς την στιγμή του θριάμβου του επί του Φόβου, επί της Ταπείνωσης και επί της Ολιγαρχίας-δίχως-σύνορα, μετά από εκείνη τη στιγμή το ΜέΡΑ25 είμαστε η ελπίδα ενός ΟΧΙ στην μονιμοποίηση της Χρεοδουλοπαροικίας και ενός ΝΑΙ σε λογικές, προοδευτικές, άμεσα εφαρμόσιμες λύσεις εντός του συστήματος που είναι απαραίτητες ΤΩΡΑ ώστε, αμέσως μετά, να προχωρήσουμε στην αμφισβήτηση του συστήματος – στην ρεαλιστική συζήτηση για την απαραίτητη μετάβαση στον μετακαπιταλισμό.
Μέρες πριν τις εκλογές που μας έβαλαν στη Βουλή τον Ιούλιο του 2019, στην Κεντρική Προεκλογική Ομιλία των Αθηνών, είχα δώσει δυο υποσχέσεις:
Πρώτη υπόσχεση ήταν ότι εντός και εκτός Βουλής θα επιδιδόμασταν σε ΜΟΝΟΜΕΤΩΠΟ ΑΝΕΝΔΟΤΟ ΑΓΩΝΑ εναντίον του παρασιτικού καθεστώτος που θα οικοδομήσει η ΝΔ πάνω στο 4ο Μνημόνιο του ΣΥΡΙΖΑ. Το πράξαμε. Κανείς δεν αμφισβητεί ότι δίνουμε καθημερινά αυτό τον αγώνα.
Δεύτερη υπόσχεση ήταν ότι, παράλληλα με τη δουλειά μας εντός και εκτός της Βουλής, το ΜέΡΑ25 θα επανιδρυόταν – πως από μια ομάδα ανθρώπων που δεν δεχθήκαμε να υποταχθούμε θα εξελισσόμασταν σε καλά οργανωμένο, βαθιά συμμετοχικό, ανοικτό, δημοκρατικό κόμμα που σε τίποτα δεν θα θύμιζε τα υπόλοιπα κόμματα.
Νομίζω ότι και οι δύο υποσχέσεις έχουν τηρηθεί.

Δε θα το δείτε στα κανάλια της ολιγαρχίας. Όμως η δραστηριότητα του ΜέΡΑ25 ήταν καταιγιστική. Μπορεί άλλοι να έχουν τον τίτλο της αξιωματικής αντιπολίτευσης. Όμως το ΜέΡΑ25 είμαστε αξιωματικά η αντιπολίτευση – τόσο προς την κυβέρνηση όσο και εν γένει απέναντι στο Μνημονιακό Τόξο ΝΔ-ΣΥΡΙΖΑ-ΚΙΝΑΛ που κυβερνά εκ μέρους της τρόικας που εξυπηρετεί την Ολιγαρχία-Δίχως-Σύνορα.
Εντός Βουλής, αποδείξαμε ότι αυτή η φωνή άξιζε να είναι στη Βουλή. Η Κ.Ο. του ΜέΡΑ25:
Κατέθεσε περισσότερες από 900 Ερωτήσεις και πάνω από 20 Τροπολογίες όπως η κατάργηση της προκαταβολής φόρου, η κατάργηση του ΕΝΦΙΑ για τους φτωχότερους με παράλληλη αύξηση για τους κατέχοντες, η μείωση ΦΠΑ, των φόρων στις μικρές και μεσαίες επιχειρήσεις
Καταθέσαμε πλήρη πρόταση πραγματικά αναλογικού εκλογικού νόμου την ώρα που είμασταν το μόνο κόμμα που σεβάστηκε τους απόδημους προτείνοντας δημιουργία εκλογικών περιφερειών εξωτερικού
Καταθέσαμε τη μοναδική δίκαιη και τεχνοκρατική λύση για το όνειδος των Κόκκινων Δανείων, την προστασία της 1ης κατοικίας και των μικρομεσαίων και την εκδίωξη από τη χώρα των αρπακτικών ταμείων
Απαιτήσαμε το βέτο της Ελλάδας στα ευρωπαϊκά όργανα, την ώρα που η κυβέρνηση στέλνει τους υπουργούς της να λένε ΝΑΙ ΣΕ ΟΛΑ
Προτείναμε την Περιφερειακή Συνδιάσκεψη των χωρών της Ανατολικής Μεσογείου ως μόνη διέξοδο από τις διμερείς συνομιλίες Αθήνας-Άγκυρας που οδηγούν σε Αδιέξοδο και Περιπέτεια
Καταθέσαμε σε δημόσια διαβούλευση «Ολοκληρωμένη Πρόταση Νόμου για την Προστασία των Πολιτών από τις Επιπτώσεις της Εντεινόμενης Οικονομικής Κρίσης» και από το 5ο Μνημόνιο – μια πραγματική απάντηση του τι θα κάναμε αν είμασταν κυβέρνηση ώστε το Ελληνικό Δημόσιο να επανακτήσει τα απαραίτητα για την προστασία των πολιτών εργαλεία από την τρόικα και την ολιγαρχία
Ήμασταν οι μόνοι που καταψηφίσαμε τις συμβάσεις για τις εξορύξεις, τονίζοντας ότι κάθε εξόρυξη είναι μια πληγή τόσο για την εθνική ασφάλεια όσο και για την προοπτική η χώρα να μην χάσει το τραίνο της Πράσινης Τεχνολογικής Επανάστασης.
Έξω από τους τοίχους της Βουλής, δώσαμε μάχες για την προστασία των αδύναμων από τα αρπακτικά, από την πανδημία, από την απελπισία. Αυτό κι αν δε θα το δείτε στις τηλεοράσεις σας…
Με το ΜέΡΑ Αλληλεγγύης συνεισφέρουμε οικονομικά, από την κρατική επιχορήγηση του κόμματος και τους μισθούς των βουλευτών μας, στα ασθενέστερα θύματα της πανδημίας
Με τη δημοσίευση του Euroleaks φέραμε κάθε πολίτη της ΕΕ μέσα στην αίθουσα της αυθαιρεσίας των Eurogroup
Με το κάλεσμα για Παλλαϊκή Συστράτευση σφυρηλατούμε την ενότητα στη βάση κοινού προγράμματος αντίστασης

Ως κόμμα που αποτελεί αναπόσπαστο κομμάτι του μοναδικού πανευρωπαϊκού διεθνικού DiEM25 δεν πάψαμε να συνδέουμε τους αγώνες εναντίον της εγχώριας ολιγαρχίας με τους αγώνες εναντίον της ολιγαρχίας-δίχως-σύνορα. Με τους γερμανούς, βρετανούς, ισπανούς, ναι, με τους τούρκους συνοδοιπόρους μας, συνεργαζόμαστε καθημερινά. Ακούσατε τον συγκινητικό τους χαιρετισμό. Το ίδιο στο πλαίσιο της Προοδευτικής Διεθνούς βαδίζουμε μαζί με τον Τσόμσκι, τον Λούλα, τον Κορρέα, την κορυφαία συγγραφέα Αρουντάτι Ρόι, εφήβους από την Γκάνα και την Κένυα, συνοδοιπόρους στην Ιαπωνία. Μόλις χτες, μαζί με τον Roger Waters, τον Λούλα και άλλους συμμετέχοντες στην ΠΔ διατρανώσαμε τη φωνή μας, ναι, και την φωνή του ΜέΡΑ25, κατά της εξόντωσης του φίλου και συνοδοιπόρου Julian Assange ο οποίος σαπίζει αυτή τη στιγμή στη φυλακή του Μπέλρμας.
Αλλά δεν μένουμε στα διαδικτυακά, στα διεθνή, στα πεδία όπου μας πλαισιώνουν γνωστοί, λαμπεροί άνθρωποι. Το ΜέΡΑ25, ένα χρόνο τώρα, είναι στους δρόμους:
Σταθήκαμε στο πλευρό των φοιτητών που υπερασπίστηκαν το πανεπιστημιακό άσυλο απέναντι στα ΜΑΤ του Χρυσοχοϊδη.
Στηρίξαμε τον απεργιακό αγώνα των εργαζομένων στον ΟΤΕ, ενάντια στις ελαστικές σχέσεις εργασίας.
Βαδίσαμε στο πλευρό των εργαζομένων της ΛΑΡΚΟ, αντιστεκόμενοι στο ξεπούλημα του ορυκτού μας πλούτουαπό την κυβέρνηση.
Υποστηρίξαμε με την παρουσία μας τους κατοίκους του Πειραιάπου αγωνίζονται ενάντια στο επικίνδυνο έργο επέκτασης του λιμανιού του Πειραιά μέσα στην θάλασσα από την Cosco, καθώς και για την απομάκρυνση των δεξαμενών καυσίμου της Oil One από τη Δραπετσώνα.
Σταθήκαμε απέναντι στο κύμα εθνικισμού και ξενοφοβίας απαιτώντας να πάψει η Ελλάδα να είναι χώρα-δεσμοφύλακας γεμάτη με κλειστά στρατόπεδα που ντροπιάζουν την ανθρωπότητα όπως η Μόρια.
Διαδηλώσαμε ενάντια στο χουντικής έμπνευσης νομοθέτημα για την ουσιαστική απαγόρευση των διαδηλώσεων.
Συμμετείχαμε ενεργά στο support art workersπου διεκδίκησε τη στήριξη των καλλιτεχνών από το κράτος τη στιγμή που η κυβέρνηση αδιαφορεί επιδεικτικά για την επιβίωσή τους.
Είμασταν πρωτοπόρο κομμάτι της μεγάλης συγκέντρωσης που ζητούσε την απόσυρση του περιβαλλοντοκτόνου νομοσχέδιου Χατζηδάκη.
Αντιταχθήκαμε στα σχέδια για ΣΔΙΤ στο νερό.
Διεκδικήσαμε τη στήριξη της δημόσιας υγείαςμε προσλήψεις μόνιμου προσωπικού και ενίσχυση του εξοπλισμού των νοσοκομείων, μαζί με όλους τους εργαζόμενους στην Υγεία.
Πιέσαμε σε κάθε επίπεδο για την αυτοοργανωμένη ΒΙΟΜΕ.
Σταθήκαμε στο πλευρό των κατοίκων που δίνουν μάχη για το νερό στις Σταγιάτες Πηλίου, στο πλευρό όσων υπερασπίζονται την ιστορική μνήμη στη μαρτυρική Κάνδανο, και εκείνων που αποκαλύπτουν το έγκλημα της καύσης σκουπιδιών και της αλόγιστης αλλά ιδιαίτερα επικερδούς αποκομιδής απορριμμάτων.
Είμασταν στην πρώτη γραμμή μαζί με το λαό της Κέρκυρας που διαδήλωσε για την προστασία του βιοτόπου του Ερημίτη, που τα αδηφάγα συμφέροντα δε δίστασαν να κάψουν μετά από ένα μήνα.

Πράγματι, η πρώτη προεκλογική υπόσχεση, ότι θα επιδιδόμασταν σε ΜΟΝΟΜΕΤΩΠΟ ΑΝΕΝΔΟΤΟ ΑΓΩΝΑ εναντίον του παρασιτικού καθεστώτος που οικοδομεί η ΝΔ πάνω στο 4ο Μνημόνιο του ΣΥΡΙΖΑ, τηρήθηκε. Όσο για τη δεύτερη υπόσχεση για τη επανίδρυση, την μετεξέλιξη του ΜέΡΑ25 σε καλά οργανωμένο, βαθιά συμμετοχικό, ανοικτό, δημοκρατικό κόμμα που σε τίποτα δεν θα θύμιζε τα υπόλοιπα κόμματα, τηρείται και αυτή. Ιδίως σήμερα, με την πανηγυρική μας πρώτη Κεντρική Επιτροπή σε εξέλιξη.
Μπορεί ο κορωνοϊός να μας φρέναρε, αλλά δεν μας κατέβαλε. Μπορεί το Συνέδριό μας να αναβλήθηκε ένα χρόνο για τον Μάη του ’21. Όμως, η διαδικασία οικοδόμησης συμμετοχικών, δημοκρατικών διαδικασιών σε όλη τη χώρα, αλλά και εκτός, δεν σταμάτησε.
Συμμετοχικά φτιάξαμε ένα πρωτοποριακό Καταστατικό το οποίο αφού το ψηφίσαμε πανευρωπαϊκά (Ποιο άλλο κόμμα θα σκεφτόταν, θα τόλμαγε, κάτι τέτοιο;), το θέσαμε σε άμεση λειτουργία. Σήμερα γευόμαστε τον γλυκό καρπό αυτής της προσπάθειας. Είχαμε υποσχεθεί ότι θα εντάξουμε στις κομματικές μας διαδικασίες την κληρωτίδα που, όπως στην Αρχαία Αθήνα, σπάει τους ολιγαρχικούς εκλογικούς μηχανισμούς. Το κάναμε: 15 από εσάς είστε εδώ με κλήρωση. Βασιζόμαστε πάνω σας για να μην δημιουργηθούν «μηχανισμοί». Γιατί, ξέρετε συνοδοιπόροι, όπως είχε πει ο Albert Camus: «Ο σκλάβος ξεκινά απαιτώντας ισονομία και καταλήγει να θέλει να φορέσει κορώνα και να κρατήσει σκήπτρο.» Αυτή την τάση στόχο έχει να ακυρώσει η κληρωτίδα. Και δεν σταματάμε στην ΚΕ: 2 μέλη της ΚΕ θα κληρωθείτε για να στελεχώσετε την ΠΓ ενώ άλλοι δύο κληρωτοί ή κληρωτές θα στελεχώσετε την Επιτροπή Δεοντολογίας και Τήρησης του Καταστατικού. Κι όταν έρθει η ώρα του Συνεδρίου, έως και το 40% των συνέδρων θα είναι κληρωτοί!
Και τώρα; Τώρα ήρθε η δική σας ώρα. Ως μέλη της ΚΕ, έχετε ρόλο σημαντικό, μεγάλο, καίριο. Από τη μία, είστε μέλη του ανώτατου οργάνου λήψης αποφάσεων. Αλλά όχι μόνο αυτό. Είστε και κάτι άλλο: Είστε τα Μέσα Μαζικής Επικοινωνίας μας. Μπορεί τα κανάλια της Ολιγαρχίας να λειτουργούν – όπως συμβαίνει στα ολοκληρωτικά καθεστώτα – ως μέσα μαζικής παραπλάνησης, για να μην πω αποβλάκωσης. Εμάς όμως δεν μας πτοούν. Θα ακουστούμε! Αλλά για να ακουστούμε πρέπει εσείς, η κάθε μία σας, ο κάθε ένας σας, να κάνετε σκοπό της καθημερινής σας ζωής η φωνή μας να φτάσει σ’ εκείνους που την έχουν ανάγκη.

Σήμερα, δεν θα σας κουράσω με μια εφ’ όλης της ύλης αποτίμηση των προβλημάτων και των προκλήσεων που αντιμετωπίζει ο λαός μας. Ούτε θα αναφερθώ στις ολοκληρωμένες πολιτικές για την προστασία των πολιτών και την πράσινη τεχνολογική επανάσταση που προτείνει το ΜέΡΑ25. Το έκανα ενδελεχώς στην ομιλία μου στη Διεθνή Έκθεση Θεσσαλονίκης πριν δεκαπέντε μέρες. Σήμερα θέλω να σας μιλήσω απλά, άμεσα, στην κάθε μία, στον κάθ’ ένα για ένα και μόνο θέμα:
Πως πρέπει ως μέλη της ΚΕ να προσεγγίζουμε τους λαβωμένους, θυμωμένους, προβληματισμένους συνανθρώπους μας εκεί «έξω». Και,
Πως πρέπει να ερμηνεύουμε τη συμπεριφορά των ανθρώπων της εξουσίας ώστε να τους απαντάμε χωρίς θυμό αλλά σταθερά και λογικά.
Επιτρέψτε μου να αρχίσω με αυτούς – με τους ανθρώπους που καταλαμβάνουν θέσεις κάποιας εξουσίας.
Το 2015, κοιτάζοντας στα μάτια τους τροϊκανούς, θυμήθηκα τα λόγια της σπουδαίας Χάνα Αρέντ η οποία αφιέρωσε τη ζωή της να αναλύει την λογική και τις πρακτικές του Ναζισμού και εν γένει της Απολυταρχίας. Αντικρύζοντας κτήνη όπως ο Άιχμαν, η Αρέντ τόλμησε να πει μια μεγάλη κουβέντα: Αντίθετα με άλλους, δεν έβλεπε στο πρόσωπό του Άιχμαν το Κακό. Όχι, έβλεπε απλά έναν άνθρωπο μπανάλ – έναν άνθρωπο που το μόνο που τον ένοιαζε ήταν η καριέρα του, το πως δεν θα κάνει το ο,τιδήποτε ξενίσει τους προϊσταμένους του, πως θα φροντίζει ώστε όλα να γίνονται σύμφωνα με τας υποδείξεις – ανεξάρτητα από το πόσα θύματα άφηνε πίσω της η εφαρμογή αυτών των υποδείξεων. Κοιτάζοντας στα μάτια τους τροϊκανούς πράγματι αυτό είδα: Πόσο μπανάλ ήταν.
Αυτό βλέπουμε και σήμερα στα πρόσωπα της τρόικας εσωτερικού, του Μνημονιακού Τόξου, των εκπροσώπων τους είτε είναι στρατευμένοι δήθεν δημοσιογράφοι είτε εκπρόσωποι αρπακτικών ταμείων, είτε αγορητές της ΝΔ, του ΣΥΡΙΖΑ, του ΚΙΝΑΛ: Πόσο μπανάλ, πόσο βαρετοί γίνονται έτσι που λειτουργούν ως διεκπεραιωτές ειλημμένων αποφάσεων.
Κι εδώ έγκειται η ομορφιά του ΜέΡΑ25: Κανείς σας δεν ήρθε στο κόμμα μας για τα οφίτσια, για να κάνει καριέρα. Εσείς που εκτεθήκατε ώστε να βρίσκεστε στην ΚΕ μάλλον το αντίθετο υποστήκατε: Έκλεισαν πόρτες επαγγελματικές για εσάς, μοιραστήκατε μέρος της δαιμονοποίησης που η τρόικα εσωτερικού επιφύλαξε για όσους επέμεναν να κρατάνε ζωντανό εκείνο το ΟΧΙ – να θυμίζουν στην ολιγαρχία εκείνο το 5μηνο που οι ολιγάρχες ένιωσαν το έδαφος να τρίζει κάτω από τα πόδια τους.
Πάμε τώρα από τους θλιβερούς ανθρώπους της δήθεν εξουσίας στο πως αντιμετωπίζουμε τους λαβωμένους συνανθρώπους μας εκεί «έξω». Πολλοί αναρωτιούνται: Καλά, γιατί τους ψηφίζουν; Πως καταφέρνει να ηγεμονεύει η Νέα Δημοκρατία που έρριξε τη χώρα στα βράχια της χρεοκοπίας συνεπικουρούμενη από το ΠΑΣΟΚ; Το μεγαλειώδες εκείνο 62% που εξαφανίστηκε;
Φίλες και φίλοι. Συνοδοιπόροι. Όπως ένα όμορφο λουλούδι, είναι πολύ εύκολο να ποδοπατήσει κανείς μια στιγμή λαϊκής ανάτασης. Το δύσκολο είναι να συμπέσουν όλες οι συνθήκες που χρειάστηκαν για να φυτρώσει και να αναπτυχθεί το λουλούδι αυτό – να συμπέσουν ο σωστός σπόρος, στο σωστό χώμα, με τον σωστό καιρό. Το εύκολο ήταν εκείνο που έκανε ο κ. Τσίπρας εκείνο το βράδυ: Να ποδοπατήσει εκείνο το λουλούδι και μάλιστα στο όνομα της Αριστεράς. Σε μια μόνο στιγμή, οι άνθρωποί μας που μόλις είχαν συνειδητοποιήσει τη δύναμή τους για πρώτη φορά μετά από δεκαετίες, σύρθηκαν λαβωμένοι στις φωλιές του – ιδιωτικοποίησαν τον πόνο τους – σιχάθηκαν, άλλη μια φορά, την πολιτική – και επέστρεψαν στον αγώνα για την επιβίωση γλύφοντας τις πληγές τους, τυλιγμένοι στο μαύρο πέπλο της στενοχώριας.
Το ΜέΡΑ25 δημιουργήθηκε για να σηκώσει αυτό το μαύρο πέπλο από τα πρόσωπα των ανθρώπων, να τους πείσει ότι δεν υπάρχει τελική ήττα, ότι δεν είμαστε όλοι ίδιοι, ότι μπορούμε . Μπήκαμε στη Βουλή και το κάνουμε. Αλλά δεν αρκεί. Πρέπει να το πετύχουμε στις γειτονιές, στα σπίτια, στις καρδιές των γνωστών μας, εκεί που άγνωστοί μας παλεύουν να κρατηθούν πάνω από την επιφάνεια ενός βούρκου που τους ρουφά προς τα κάτω.
Αυτός είναι, λοιπόν, ο δικός σας ρόλος. Ο ρόλος του κάθε μέλους της Κεντρικής Επιτροπής μας.
Η στρατηγική του Μνημονιακού Τόξου είναι η εργαλειοποίηση της στενοχώριας. Η δική σας στρατηγική πρέπει να είναι ο θρίαμβος της προσωπικής επαφής επί της στενοχώριας. Ο εκδημοκρατισμός του ατομικού χώρου των ηττημένων συνανθρώπων μας. Χωρίς την παραμικρή διάθεση κατήχησης ή νουθέτησής τους.
Κλειδί για να ξεκλειδώσουμε τις ψυχές τους πρέπει να είναι ο σεβασμός σε αυτόν με τον οποίο διαφωνούμε. Για να δώσω ένα παράδειγμα, πάρτε συμπολίτες μας που διαδηλώνουν ώστε 15χρονα ορφανά προσφυγόπουλα να μην πάνε στο ίδιο σχολειό με τα παιδιά τους. Είναι εύκολο να θυμώσουμε μαζί τους. Δεν έχουμε όμως το δικαίωμα. Πρέπει, πριν τους πούμε τη θέση μας, να αφουγκραστούμε τον καϋμό που τους προκαλεί το συναίσθημα του να είναι κανείς πρόσφυγας στην ίδια του τη χώρα, στην «Χρεοδουλοπαροικία η Ελλάς». Μόνο τότε θα καταφέρουμε να τους πάρουμε μαζί μας, να τους πείσουμε ότι αυτά τα 15χρονα όχι μόνο δεν είναι απειλή αλλά θα γίνουν σύντομα οι καλύτεροι πρεσβευτές της Ελλάδας, οι καλύτεροι φίλοι των παιδιών τους.
Από την Χάνα Αρέντ που προανάφερα έχω μάθει και κάτι άλλο. Προσπαθώντας να αναλύσει πως γεννιέται ο φασισμός, η απολυταρχία, ξεκινά την ανάλυσή της συμβατικά μελετώντας τον ρόλο της προπαγάνδας, τον δηλητηριώδη συνδυασμό της ξενοφοβίας και της μπανάλ γραφειοκρατίας. Αφού τα μελέτησε όλα αυτά, τελικά κατέληξε να διακρίνει τον ένα, τον μεγαλύτερο, τον πιο επικίνδυνο σύμμαχο της απολυταρχίας και του φασισμού: Την Μοναξιά!
«Η απομόνωση κι η έλλειψη κανονικών κοινωνικών σχέσεων» έγραψε η Χάνα «δημιουργεί την ανάγκη προσχώρησης σε κάποιο ολοκληρωτισμό. Η μοναξιά, ή να το πω διαφορετικά η εμπειρία του να μην ανήκεις καθόλου στον κόσμο που σε περιβάλει είναι η πεμπτουσία των ολοκληρωτικών κυβερνήσεων. Έτσι κατασκευάζονται οι εκτελεστές. Έτσι προετοιμάζονται τα θύματά τους.» Να προσέξουμε συνοδοιπόροι: Δεν είναι μόνον η Ύφεση που προϋπήρξε της πανδημίας και την οποία η πανδημία γιγάντωσε. Είναι κι η μοναξιά, ιδίως των ηλικιωμένων που σήμερα απομονώνονται στα σπίτια τους, στα γηροκομεία.
Θυμάστε το βράδυ της 3ης Ιουλίου του 2015, τότε που η λαοθάλασσα του ΟΧΙ πλημμύρισε την Πλατεία Συντάγματος; Ξέρετε τί μου έμεινε από εκείνο το βράδυ; Ότι δεν ήμουν μόνος. Το ίδιο συναίσθημα είδα στα μάτια του κάθε συνοδοιπόρου. Έλαμπαν τα μάτια τους. Φώναζαν: Δεν είμαι πια μόνη. Δεν είμαι πια μόνος. Για αυτό τον ένα λόγο δεν θα συγχωρέσουμε ποτέ εκείνους που, δυο βραδιές μετά, συνθηκολόγησαν με την τρόικα κρυπτόμενοι πίσω από το ψεύδος ότι ο λαός δεν ήταν έτοιμος για την ρήξη: Την στιγμή που η συλλογικότητα και ο κοινός αγώνας θριάμβευε ξαναβούτηξαν τον κόσμο μας στον βούρκο της μοναξιάς, της εξατομίκευσης, της ιδιώτευσης.
Νιώθοντας παρατημένοι από εκείνους που τους ξεσήκωσαν στη βάση πανανθρώπινων ιδεωδών, μόνοι τους πια, διπλά ταπεινωμένοι, αντίκρυ σε μια ακόμα σκληρότερη Χρεοδουλοπαροικία αποφασισμένη να τους κάνει να μετανιώσουν που, έστω και για λίγο, σήκωσαν κεφάλι, πολλοί από αυτούς κατέρρευσαν, παραδιδόμενοι λίγο-λίγο σε άλλα αφηγήματα κάποια φοβικά κάποια μισανθρωπικά.
Όπως έλεγε κι η Αρέντ, ο εθνικισμός κάνει ανθρώπους που βρίσκονται στο έλεος της μοναξιάς να νιώθουν έστω και λίγο ότι κάποιος τους ακούει, μιλώντας απ’ ευθείας στους φόβους τους, στο θυμό τους – λέγοντάς τους πως μόνο εκείνος, ο εθνικισμός, τους σκέφτεται – αντίθετα με τους κοσμοπολίτες που νοιάζονται για τους άλλους, τους ξένους. Αυτό έκανε η ηγεσία του ΣΥΡΙΖΑ εκείνο το βράδυ του Δημοψηφίσματος: παρέδωσε τους ανθρώπους μας από την χαρά του διεθνιστικού πατριωτισμού στην απόγνωση του εθνικιστικού ψευτο-πατριωτισμού. Δεν χρειαζόταν πολύ για να φτάσουμε σήμερα να βρίσκουν μια κάποια ανακούφιση στα μαντάτα ότι η ολιγαρχία αγοράζει Ραφάλ και φρεγάτες – κι ας ξέρουν κατά βάθος ότι αυτή η αγορά θα γιγαντώσει κι άλλο την λιτότητα που τους καταστρέφει χωρίς να κάνει τη χώρα ουσιαστικά ασφαλέστερη.
Αυτό το πλαίσιο που έφτιαξε ο ΣΥΡΙΖΑ είναι εκείνο που εκμεταλλεύεται ο κ. Μητσοτάκης σήμερα. Η κυβέρνησή του έχει στη διάθεσή της εξαιρετικούς προπαγανδιστές. Την ώρα που εφαρμόζει πολιτικές που βαθαίνουν την φτώχεια, την ταπείνωση, την μοναξιά, την απαξίωση και την αναξιοπρέπεια των ανθρώπων μας, οι προπαγανδιστές τους ξέρουν πως να μετατρέπουν την Μοναξιά σε τυφλό Θυμό όλων-εναντίον-όλων ιδίως προς τον ξένο, προς τον λίγο πιο σκούρο, προς τους νέους που τολμούν να διαφέρουν ή να διαμαρτύρονται.
Για αυτό το λόγο, η κάθε μία, ο κάθε ένας από εμάς πρέπει να βγούμε εκεί έξω, στην τοπική κοινωνία, να μιλήσουμε με τους γείτονές μας, με τους περαστικούς που μπορεί να μας συμπαθούν μπορεί και όχι. Αφού πρώτα τους αφουγκραστούμε, αφού τους κοιτάξουμε στα μάτια, να αγγίξουμε την ψυχή τους δίνοντάς τους κουράγιο και μια νέα προοπτική. Εκεί έξω, ανάμεσα στους συμπολίτες μας, θα βρούμε την Ταπείνωση, την Μοναξιά, την Απαξίωση και την Αναξιοπρέπεια να περπατούν ως τραμπούκοι στους δρόμους των πόλεών μας, να ροβολάνε τα μονοπάτια της επαρχίας μας, και να σπέρνουν παντού την Απαισιοδοξία, τη Διχόνοια και τη Δυσαρέσκεια από την οποία μόνο η Ολιγαρχία επωφελείται.
Συνοδοιπόροι, μακρυά από εμάς τα λόγια τα εύκολα, τα λαϊκιστικά, τα μεγάλα. Αντίθετα με τον λόγο των φασιστών, της δήθεν αντιπολίτευσης και της λαϊκιστικής ολιγαρχίας που είναι απλοϊκός λόγος, ο λόγος του ΜέΡΑ25 είναι σύνθετος. Σύνθετος λόγος το ΜέΡΑ25 από την μία, αποκαρδιωμένοι, συγχυσμένοι, ασταθείς αποδέκτες από την άλλη που αφήνονται στο ψέμα ακόμα κι όταν ξέρουν ότι είναι ψέμα. Είναι δύσκολο το εγχείρημά μας. Αυτό όμως έχουμε ταχθεί να κάνουμε: Να εμπλουτίσουμε την πολιτική ζωή με λόγο σύνθετο, ορθό, κατανοητό και ειλικρινή. Με μόνα μέσα μαζικής ενημέρωσης εσάς, τα στελέχη και τα μέλη του ΜέΡΑ25.
Μην σκιάζεστε όμως συνοδοιπόροι. Τελικά, ΘΑ ΑΚΟΥΣΤΟΥΜΕ! Αλλά θέλει δουλειά πολλή σε όλες τις γωνιές της χώρας. Ιδίως από τους μόνους πομπούς του μηνύματός μας: Εσάς!

Συνοδοιπόροι,
Στο μικρό χρονικό διάστημα παρουσίας του στα πολιτικά πράγματα, το ΜέΡΑ25 δεν παύει να καταθέτει προτάσεις. Προτάσεις που αποκρύπτονται από τα συστημικά μέσα. Γιατί αν δεν τις κρύψουν, αναπόφευκτα θα εκθέσουν όσα κόμματα κυβέρνησαν, κυβερνούν ή απαιτούν να ξανακυβερνήσουν για να ξανακάνουν τα ίδια.
Εμείς όμως ήρθαμε για να μείνουμε, είτε τους αρέσει είτε όχι. Με τη στήριξη των πολιτών στο ΜέΡΑ25 – και τη στήριξη του ΜέΡΑ25 στην κοινωνία.
Με τα λάθη μας. Με τις παραλείψεις μας. Με την απειρία μας. Αλλά και με το μεράκι μας. Την αγνότητά μας. Την συνέπειά μας. Με το πάθος μας για δικαιοσύνη, ελευθερία και δημοκρατία. Για την υπεράσπιση των αδύναμων. Για τους ανθρώπους. Όχι για τα αξιώματα.
Γι’ αυτό σας καλώ να κοιτάξετε ψηλά. Προς την νίκη. Ναι, ξέρω, υπάρχει κάτι το ελκυστικό σε μια χαμένη υπόθεση. Τί πιο ρομαντικό από μια μεγαλειώδη ήττα σε πόλεμο που είναι αδύνατον να κερδηθεί; Όχι όμως για εμάς! Εμείς δεν είμαστε από αυτούς τους ρομαντικούς. Είμαστε από τους άλλους. Όπως για τον Πικάσο η ζωγραφική ήταν πολεμικό εργαλείο, έτσι για εμάς ο ρομαντισμός, η πολιτική αξιοπρέπεια κι ο πολιτισμός είναι όπλα που χρησιμοποιούμε για να νικήσουμε.
Στόχος μας δεν είναι το 5% ή το 10%. Στόχος μας είναι να μεταλλάξουμε την κοινωνία. Σκοπός μας είναι το ΜέΡΑ25 να παραδώσει την εξουσία στον Δήμο που η ολιγαρχία έχει αποκλείσει από την δήθεν δημοκρατία της. Για να το πετύχουμε όμως αυτό πρέπει να κερδίσουμε τις εκλογές. Αυτοδύναμα!
Ναι, έχουμε δρόμο μπροστά μας. Όμως κάθε Μαραθώνιος, κάθε Σπαρτακιάδα, ξεκινά από ένα βήμα.
Το βήμα που κάνετε σήμερα ως μέλη της 1ης μας Κεντρικής Επιτροπής μπορεί να είναι τέτοιο. Από εσάς εξαρτάται να αδράξατε την μέρα, να κάνετε το ΜέΡΑ25 το εργαλείο που για πρώτη φορά θα εντάξει τον ενεργοποιημένο, αυτοδιοικούμενο Δήμο, τους φτωχούς και τους αδύναμους που είναι η πλειοψηφία, στο επίκεντρο της Δημοκρατίας.

Είναι δυνατόν ξένες εταιρείες που δεν γνωρίζουμε καν να μπορούν να “κατεβάσουν” το φορολογικό σύστημα; Από την συζήτηση στη Βουλή περί “Ψηφιακής Διακυβέρνησης”
Είναι δυνατόν σε κυρίαρχη, υποτίθεται, χώρα το φορολογικό λογισμικό να μην το ελέγχει η κυβέρνηση; Είναι δυνατόν να το ελέγχει μια δήθεν ανεξάρτητη φορολογική αρχή (η λεγόμενη ΑΑΔΕ), που είναι ανεξάρτητη μόνον από το ελληνικό κράτος αλλά πλήρως εξαρτημένη από την τρόικα; Είναι δυνατόν η ΑΑΔΕ να αναθέτει το φορολογικό λογισμικό σε ξένες εταιρείες, που ανήκουν σε άλλες ξένες εταιρείες που κανείς μας δεν γνωρίζει ποιες είναι; Είναι δυνατόν να επιτρέπουμε σε τέτοιες ξένες εταιρείες τη δυνατότητα να πατήσουν ένα κουμπί κάπου στην Καλιφόρνια και να χάνει το Ελληνικό Δημόσιο πρόσβαση στα φορολογικά δεδομένα των πολιτών του; Δεν νιώθετε ντροπή εσείς της Νέας Δημοκρατίας που δήθεν κυβερνάτε; Δεν νιώθετε ντροπή εσείς του ΣΥΡΙΖΑ που στις μέρες σας δημιουργήσατε, υπό τα διαταγάς της τρόικας, την ΑΑΔΕ;

Diary entries on Brexit, defending refugees & writing postcapitalist fiction – THE NEWSTATESMAN
Reading the newspapers last Monday, I was reminded that negotiations with Brussels are always an occasion for second-rate theatre. Ultimatums are usually issued by EU negotiators facing UK governments that talk enthusiastically of red lines and sovereignty. But now, if the Telegraph is to be believed, it is Boris Johnson who has given the EU 38 days to propose a postBrexit deal – or else. While history is not on Johnson’s side, there is a difference between him and other premiers who buckled: he is not bluffing. It seems he would like a deal, but is not desperate for one. Let’s see how the EU deals with this in October, when trade talks are supposed to conclude. Setting aside this latest episode of the Brexit saga, I began preparing for a leaders’ debate in Greece’s parliament over our government’s handling of Covid-19. Our party, MeRA25, was not the only one to chastise the government for failing to hire extra doctors and nurses, leaving our national health service in a dilapidated state after a decade of austerity. However, I was the only parliamentary leader to absolve the government of incompetence and instead claim that it was its explicit policy to drive public health into the ground for a parasitic oligarchy seeking to privatise it.Saddened and angered
Two days later, I awoke to the news that the Moria refugee camp on Lesbos had burned down overnight. Assembled in 2015, when nearly a million people passed through the island, it eventually became an EU-sanctioned prison camp, with 13,000 people packed in a space designed for 1,800. While at first they were free to move in and out of the camp, more recently the gates were locked shut. In response to reports that refugees had started the fires intentionally to burn down the hideous camp, xenophobic yells filled the airwaves. Politicians, bureaucrats and commentators competed to find ways to condemn the “ungrateful” migrants. One minister said the state must not be blackmailed into providing better conditions, and that the refugees should be taught a lesson by being left to suffer in makeshift tents for months. Saddened and angered by this cacophony, I posted the following in my blog: What would you do if you, your family and another 13,000 people were incarcerated in a prison camp built for 1,800 people, without running water, without heating, without knowing when you will be given a hearing to decide between deportation and asylum (some people have been in there for four years) and, to cap it all, you heard that 35 positive Covid-19 tests were returned in an environment where it is impossible to self-isolate and where there are zero doctors to look after you? Would you not try to find a way to break down the gates so that you can escape the living hell? Would it be wrong to start thinking that maybe starting a fire is the answer? No, you would be right. Indeed, it would be your duty to start that fire! Soon, the Greek media were reporting that the leader of MeRA25 was siding with violent foreigners against his own people. Funnily enough, I felt honoured to be on the receiving end of their venom.
Missing main characters
Tuning into Radio 4, I was greeted with the news that Boris Johnson had introduced his “rule of six”. Switching to Greek stations, I heard that hordes of officials and riot police had disembarked on Lesbos intent on “turning the screw on refugees”. I so wished the rule of six applied here too. Trying to turn my thoughts elsewhere, I remembered that it was 10 September, the day my new book (Another Now: Dispatches from an Alternative Present) was released in the UK. Readers would soon be dissecting my first political science-fiction novel. Using that medium proved to be the only way I could do what I spent decades avoiding: sketch a plausible alternative to capitalism. What, I wondered, will people make of Iris, Eva and Costa, the three characters I conjured up to tell the story of how, after the financial crash in 2008, humanity built a type of democratic socialism – characters from whom I ended up learning so much and whom I now miss badly?
The weight of the past
Two awful anniversaries are marked on 11 September; images of the falling twin towers mix with echoes of the 1973 coup d’état that killed Salvador Allende and brought the Butcher of Chile into office. I met Chilean refugee friends at the University of Essex in 1979, and I remember the courage with which they hid their pain. Back in our strange times, the UK commentariat was going ballistic over Johnson’s manoeuvre to threaten the sanctity of his Withdrawal Agreement. Has politics become unbearably dull? Or does the weight of these two anniversaries make it seem so? Before long, the Greek prime minister forced me to refocus. With our public health system and economy in tatters, he gave a speech to fan the flames of nationalism. Greece, he declared, would be buying fighter jets and frigates from France for billions, boosting our already unpayable debt. There we have it: a new arms race with Turkey, which Greece can only lose, is underway – and it will bring more austerity and sink our people deeper into debt bondage.
Entering post-capitalism
On 12 August it was reported that Britain’s economy was in its worst slump since records began as GDP fell by more than 20 per cent over the first half of the year. Half an hour later, the London Stock Exchange shot up, the FTSE100 rising by more than 2 per cent. The world of money had finally decoupled from capitalism. Money markets were divorced from profit. What we now have is a dystopic variety of post-capitalism. Maybe my book saw the light of day at the right time. Then again, maybe not. l Yanis Varoufakis leads MeRA25 in Greece’s Parliament and is a Professor of Economics at the University of Athens.

Why we need a Progressive International that must plan for today and for beyond capitalism – Keynote at the PI 2020 Summit, 18 SEP 2020
Our era will be remembered for the triumphant march of a Twin Authoritarianism in whose wake the vast majority of humanity experience unnecessary hardship and the planet’s ecosystem suffers avoidable climate destruction.
For a brief period, that Eric Hobsbawm described as the short 20th Century, Establishment forces were united in dealing with challenges to their authority. It was a rare period, in the grander scheme of human history, in that the Establishment had to face varieties of progressives aiming at changing the world ranging from the original social democrats, who sought to redistribute power between capital and labour within capitalism, to the Soviet-linked regimes that experimented with non-capitalist but centralised modes of production; to Yugoslavia, trying its hand on self-management; to the national liberation movements in Africa and Asia; even he original radical Green movement in places like W. Germany.
Back then, the Establishment was united against all those progressive challengers. I grew up in a right-wing fascist dictatorship that was instigated by the United States during the Lyndon Johnson administration – one of the most progressive administrations when it came to domestic politics which, nonetheless, did not hesitate to prop up fascists in Greece or to carpet-bomb Vietnam. I mention the LBJ administration in the 1960s as a reminder of the historic fact that what we now call the Liberal Establishment used fascists and local despots liberally to prop up the so-called Western Way of Life. The fear and loathing of right-wing populism that can be found today plastered on every page of the New York Times was simply absent back then. Back then, the New York Times and other organs of the Liberal Establishment portrayed the progressives as enemies of freedom and democracy – never the Papadopoulos or the Pinochet monsters.
Things changed after 2008, the year the western financial system imploded. Following twenty-five years of financialisation, under the ideological cloak of neoliberalism, global capitalism had a 1929-like spasm that nearly brought it to its knees. The immediate reaction was to use the central banks’ printing presses, but also to transfer bank losses to the working and middle classes (via bailout loans), so as to re-float financial institutions and markets. This combination of socialism for the financialised few and stringent austerity for the masses did two things.
First, it depressed real investment globally (as firms could see that the masses had little to spend on new goods and services), thus creating a gigantic gap between (a) real investment and (b) available cash and savings (boosted massively by government money printing). The result was discontent amongst the many and stupendous riches for the very few.
Secondly, it gave rise initially to progressive uprisings (from the Indignados in Spain and the Aganaktismeni in Greece to the Occupy Wall Street movement and various left-wing forces in Latin America) who were, however, efficiently dealt with either by the Establishment directly (e.g. the crushing of the Greek Spring in 2015) or indirectly by the stagnation of global capitalism (e.g. the fading of leftist Latin American governments as Chinese demand for their exports collapsed due to the imbalance between global savings and global investment).
As progressive causes were snuffed out one by one, the discontent of the masses had to find a political expression. It was then that phenomena not seen since the mid-war period were observed. Mimicking the rise of Mussolini, who promised to look after the weakest and to make them feel proud to be Italian again, we witnessed the Rise of the Nationalist International. The rightist expression of Brexit (“We want our country back, plus more money for the National Health Service”), Donald Trump (“I shall look after the ones the Wall Street and the Liberal Establishment left behind”), Bolsonaro, Modi, Le Pen, Salvini, Orban etc. etc.
It is thus that, for the first time since the Second World War, the great political clash was not between the Establishment and assorted Progressives but between different parts of the Establishment: One part appearing as the stalwarts of Liberal Democracy, the other as the representatives of Illiberal Democracy.
Of course, this clash between the Liberal Establishment and the Nationalist International was utterly illusory. Mr Macron needed Le Pen, without whom he would never be President. And Ms Le Pen needed Macron and the Liberal Establishment’s austerity policies that generated the discontent that fed her campaigns.
Nevertheless, the fact that the Liberal Establishment and the Nationalist International were, in reality, accomplices does not mean that the cultural and personal clash between them is not authentic. The authenticity of their clash, despite the lack of any real policy difference between them (e.g. the Trump administration used the same Wall Street personnel to deliver the type of tax cuts George W. Bush and even Hillary Clinton supported), made it next to impossible for Progressives to be heard over the cacophony caused by the clashing variants of Authoritarianism (the Liberal Establishment and the Nationalist International).
This is why we need a Progressive International: Because the fake opposition between the two variants of the Twin Authoritarianism – the Liberal Establishment and the Nationalist International – threaten humanity by trapping us in a business-as-usual agenda that destroys life prospects and wastes opportunities to end climate change.
How can we break the stranglehold of the Twin Authoritarianism darkening our souls and mortgaging our youth’s future? Look at our defeats in Greece in July 2015, when a promising progressive rebellion against austerity-for-the-people and bailouts-for-the-oligarchy took place. Or the successful undermining of Jeremy Corbyn and of Bernie Sanders within their own parties. Look at the way in which popular progressive leaders in Brazil, Bolivia and Ecuador were driven out of the political contest. Look at the way a veil of silence is drawn over the courageous struggles for self-determination by countless communities in Africa or India. Look carefully at this multitude of defeats and I think you will agree that only one thing could prevent them: A Progressive International to counter the Davos International (of the Liberal Establishment) and the Nationalist International (of the recalcitrant xenophobic Right).
Has the time not come, friends, for Progressives to emulate the bankers and the fascists who have proven time and again their remarkable capacity for internationalism? Is it not time to follow their example to unite across borders behind a common agenda, to create a common narrative, to press our capacities into the service of the same agenda in favour of the many deploying a joint investment plan into saving the planet?
I think that this time has come. Now is the moment when we either form an effective, successful Progressive International, or we share the burden of blame for humanity’s failure to serve people and planet.
Common Program, Uncommon Collective Action Plan
“But, what does a PI entail?”, I hear many of you ask. “What does it mean in practice?” While such a grand project cannot be based on anyone’s blueprint, and must be constructed organically and via crowdsourcing of ideas, one thing is clear – at least to me: The PI cannot succeed if it simply emulates efforts like the World Social Forum or the brilliantly open discussion format in the squares where we used to gather a decade ago in Spain, in Athens, in London, in NYC. We need something that these earlier attempts at bringing progressives together lacked: A Common Program and a Collective Action Plan.
I have already spoken in favour of confronting the internationalism of the bankers and the fascists with a progressive internationalism. The fascists and the bankers, lest we forget, have a common program. Whether you speak to a banker in Chile or to a banker in Switzerland, you will hear the same story: How financial engineering provides the capital necessary to invest in everything we need, why privatisation is a must that only fools dispute, the need to offer investors certainty against local legislatures and courts etc. Similarly, every time you speak to a member of the Nationalist International, you will hear the same story: Why electrified border fences are essential for sovereign democracies, the threat to our culture and to our social welfare system from migrant labour as well as from international Jewry/Islamists, the importance of looking after the natives while making the life of those deemed less-than-loyal or worthy citizens harder etc. My point is: Progressives also need a common program. We must also speak with one humanist voice across the world.
Talk, of course, is cheap if not backed by action. The Liberal Establishment do not have this problem. They are in government almost everywhere and, even if not in actual government, they are certainly in power. Their politicians, bureaucrats and bankers act upon the world every minute of the day, always and consistently in a manner that promotes their Common Program. The Nationalist International also act upon the world. Whether through violence on the streets of Portland or Piraeus, or through the policies of Trump, Bolsonaro and Modi, they are never short of a series of acts in total harmony with their misanthropic, xenophobic, reactionary Common Agenda. We need to emulate them in this regard too: We need to plan and carry our Collective Actions in defence of local communities as part of a global, well-planned, mobilisation.
In summary, the PI needs two things that we never developed in the past: A Common Program and an Uncommon Collective Action Plan allowing for local interventions that are part and parcel of a global campaign.

What Collective Action Plan should we envisage?
Do you remember Chris Smalls, the Amazon employee who dared organise a walkout from the company’s Staten Island facility in protest at working conditions during the pandemic? He shot momentarily to fame when it was revealed that, having fired him, Amazon’s ultra-rich and uber-powerful directors spent a long teleconference planning his character assassination to undermine his cause. Even though a considerable number of public figures spoke out in Chris’s defence, the furore had no effect. Amazon emerged from the 2020 lockdown richer, stronger and more influential than ever. As for Chris, once his five minutes of fame faded, he remained fired and vilified.
What would it take for the PI to make a difference and to defend Chris in a way that angry letters to the NYT did not? Suppose the PI were active then and we could call upon people far and wide to participate in a Day of Inaction – a particular day when we just do not even visit Amazon’s website in support of Chris Smalls. Not visiting a website for a day costs people – even heavy Amazon users – next to nothing but can translate into large costs for corporations like Amazon.
This could be a start: Identifying multinational companies that abuse workers locally and targeting them globally, utilising the great disparity between the cost to participants and the costs of the targeted firms. Then, in a second phase, we could combine these consumer Days of Inaction with trades union Days of Action at the local level, aimed at the company and its affiliates.
The prospect of such Global Action in Support of Local Workers or Communities has, I trust, immense scope. With some clever communication and planning, they can become a popular way people around the world can embrace to get a feeling they are helping make the world a freer, fairer place.
What should our Common Plan look like?
Toward a Common Program – an International Green New Deal
The good news is that we have many different Green New Deal proposals to draw upon. However, while each contains useful ideas, they need to be synthesised into an overarching coherent, internationally coordinated plan that can be supported locally and implemented everywhere. To gain such traction, the plan must answer three questions: What must be done? How will we pay for it? Who will do it?
We know what we must do. Power generation must shift massively from fossil fuels to renewables, wind and solar primarily. Land transport must be electrified while air transport and shipping must turn to new zero-carbon fuels (e.g. hydrogen). Meat production needs to diminish substantially, with greater emphasis on organic plant crops. Strict limits on physical growth (from toxins to cement) are of the essence.
We also know that all this will cost at least $8 trillion annually. Additionally, we need to create from scratch institutions that will coordinate the various works and distribute the costs and the benefits between the global North and the global South. The task seems enormous. In a world where even the modest Paris Agreement lies in tatters, it is terribly easy to surrender to despair.
This is precisely why we need a New Deal narrative at a planetary scale. Franklin D. Roosevelt’s original New Deal succeeded because it came at a time when the grapes of wrath were filling and “growing heavy for the vintage”. Its singular achievement was to address people who had given up and to inspire in them the hope that, astonishingly, there is an alternative. That there are ways of pressing idle resources into public service. The New Deal’s success was to present a plan that made sense to the disheartened and offered opportunity to the entrepreneurial; a plan that changed the frame from which a majority of people assessed their circumstances.
The key questions of funding and distribution can also be answered through this new frame. The $8 trillion we need annually will have to be financed both from public and private sources. Public finance, just like in the original New Deal, must involve transnational bond instruments and revenue-neutral carbon taxes – so that the money raised from taxing diesel can be returned to the poorest of citizens relying on diesel cars, in order to strengthen them generally and also allow them to buy an electric car.
Meanwhile, tax evasion will only be dealt a major blow if we introduce a global minimum effective corporate-tax rate on multinational corporations of, say, 25%, that is then redistributed on the basis of a simple formula taking into account the geographical distribution of sales.
To plough these resources into green investments, we could propose a new Organisation for Emergency Environmental Cooperation, or OEEC – the namesake of the original OEEC which, seventy-five years ago, administered the works funded by the Marshall Plan in Europe. One main difference from the 1950s is that today’s task is not simply to re-build but to develop new zero-emissions technologies. No country alone can fund the requisite research and development. The OEEC would, thus, pool the brainpower of the international scientific community into something like a Green Manhattan Project – only one that aims, instead of mass murder, at ending extinction.
Even more ambitiously, the PI can propose an International Monetary Clearing Union, of the type John Maynard Keynes suggested during the Bretton Woods conference in 1944, including well-designed restrictions on capital movements. By rebalancing wages, trade and finance at a planetary scale, both involuntary migration and involuntary unemployment will recede, thus ending the moral panic over the human right to move freely about the planet.
Organisation
The need for a Common Agenda and a Common Collective Action Plan means that the PI needs to feature an international organisation . The great question for us all is: How can we create this essential organisation without falling prey to the usual organisational pitfalls; e.g. bureaucracy, exclusion, power games?
This is a difficult question that members of the PI Council must address – one that I have no answer for. However, not having an answer at this point is a good thing, since this is an answer we must discover together.
The one point I want to make at this juncture is that the difficulty in answering this question, and setting up an effective organisation, is no excuse for not proceeding. The bankers and the fascists have found answers. Granted that it is harder to find answers to this question as progressives who reject hierarchies, bureaucracies and the encroachments of paternalism, we have a duty to find them nevertheless.
An International Green New Deal is necessary but not sufficient: The PI must look beyond capitalism
Friends, Some say that the time for a Green New Deal has come and gone. That it is now too late. That capitalism cannot be civilised, tamed or rendered compatible with humanity’s survival. I have to admit that I tend to agree with them, in part at least. An International Green New Deal is necessary, on this I have no doubt. But I don’t believe it is sufficient.
Consider what happed on 12th August 2020, the day the news broke that the British economy had suffered its greatest slump ever. The London Stock Exchange jumped by more than 2%! Nothing comparable had ever occurred. Similar developments unfolded in Wall Street, in the United States. My interpretation is that, when Covid-19 met the gargantuan bubble with which governments and central banks have been zombifying corporations and financial institutions since 2008, financial markets finally decoupled from the underlying capitalist economy causing capitalism to evolve surreptitiously into a horrid postcapitalism – not, of course, the postcapitalism that convinced socialists once envisioned.
Our PI needs seriously to take into account the possibility that capitalism is not only worth terminating but, more pressingly, that capitalism has already undermined itself. If I am right on this, even members of the PI who entertain hopes of reforming, or civilising, capitalism, must consider the possibility that the PI has a duty to look beyond capitalism – indeed, to plan for a postcapitalist civilisation.
Glimpses of postcapitalism
While this is neither the moment nor the place to plan for postcapitalism, it is useful to imagine what a postcapitalist world might be like. Without a capacity for such contemplation, mixed in with our realistic International Green New Deal, our PI will fail to inspire either us oldies in need of a boost of hope or the generation of youngsters seeking a vision worth fighting for.
In a book that came out just this week, called ANOTHER NOW, I try to imagine that my generation had not missed every pivotal moment history presented us with. What if we had seized the 2008 moment to stage a peaceful high-tech revolution that led to a postcapitalist economic democracy? What would it be like?
To be desirable, it would feature markets for goods and services since the alternative –
a Soviet-type rationing system that vests arbitrary power in the ugliest of bureaucrats – is too dreary for words. But to be crisis-proof, there is one market that market socialism cannot afford to feature: The labour market. Why? Because, once labour time has a rental price, the market mechanism inexorably pushes it down while commodifying every aspect of work (and, in the Age of Facebook, of our leisure even). The greater the system’s success in doing this, the less the exchange value of each unit of output it generates, the lower the average profit rate and, ultimately, the nearer the next systemic crisis.
Can an advanced economy function without labour markets? Of course it can. Consider the principle of one-employee-one-share-one-vote. Amending corporate law so as to turn every employee into an equal (though not equally remunerated) partner, via granting them a non-tradeable one-person-one-share-one-vote, is as unimaginably radical today as universal suffrage used to be in the 19th Century.
By granting employee-partners the right to vote in the corporation’s general assemblies, an idea proposed by the early anarcho-syndicalists, the distinction between wages and profits is terminated and democracy, at last, enters the workplace – with the new digital collaborative tools standing by to remove all inefficiencies that would otherwise hamper the prospects of a democratically-run corpo-syndicalist firm. Besides the democratisation of firms, it would bring the demise of share markets and terminate the need for gargantuan debt to fund mergers and acquisitions.
Already, some Central Banks are thinking of providing every adult with a free bank account. If this goes ahead in a society without share markets, why would you want an account with a private bank? Once debt leverage linked to share markets and personal banking disappear, so does commercial banking. Goldman Sachs and the like become extinct – without even the need to ban them.
What if we were to take this idea further, proposing that the Central Bank also credits each such account with a fixed monthly stipend (a universal basic dividend). As everyone would use their central bank account to make domestic payments, most of the money minted by the central bank will be transferred within its ledger. Additionally, the central bank can grant all new-borns a trust fund, to be used when they grow up.
Thus, persons would receive two types of income: The dividends credited into their central bank account. And earnings from working in a corpo-syndicalist company. Neither need be taxed – the end of income and sales taxes (VAT). Instead, three types of taxes fund this type of government: A 5% tax on the raw revenues of the corpo-syndicalist firms. A carbon tax. And proceeds from leasing land (which belongs in its entirety to the community) for private, time-limited, use.
Once this principle is embraced, a market-socialist blueprint almost writes itself. Freed from corporate power, unshackled from the indignity imposed upon the needy by the welfare state, and liberated from the tyranny of the profits-wages tug-of-war, persons and communities can begin to imagine new ways of deploying their talents and creativity.
Conclusion
Friends, I tried to outline the reasons a Progressive International is essential at our present moment in history.
Faced with the onerous task of fighting against the Twin Authoritarianisms wrecking the future, we need: A common plan of what needs to be done worldwide. A common campaigning framework for energising progressives around the world to implement our common plan. A common international organisation to coordinate our campaigns. And last, but not least, a common will to envision postcapitalism – together. Our Progressive International is a unique opportunity to meet this challenge. Across the world. Together!
For a brief period, that Eric Hobsbawm described as the short 20th Century, Establishment forces were united in dealing with challenges to their authority. It was a rare period, in the grander scheme of human history, in that the Establishment had to face varieties of progressives aiming at changing the world ranging from the original social democrats, who sought to redistribute power between capital and labour within capitalism, to the Soviet-linked regimes that experimented with non-capitalist but centralised modes of production; to Yugoslavia, trying its hand on self-management; to the national liberation movements in Africa and Asia; even he original radical Green movement in places like W. The prospect of such Global Action in Support of Local Workers or Communities has, I trust, immense scope. With some clever communication and planning, they can become a popular way people around the world can embrace to get a feeling they are helping make the world a freer, fairer place.
What should our Common Plan look like?
Toward a Common Program – an International Green New Deal
The good news is that we have many different Green New Deal proposals to draw upon. However, while each contains useful ideas, they need to be synthesised into an overarching coherent, internationally coordinated plan that can be supported locally and implemented everywhere. To gain such traction, the plan must answer three questions: What must be done? How will we pay for it? Who will do it?
We know what we must do. Power generation must shift massively from fossil fuels to renewables, wind and solar primarily. Land transport must be electrified while air transport and shipping must turn to new zero-carbon fuels (e.g. hydrogen). Meat production needs to diminish substantially, with greater emphasis on organic plant crops. Strict limits on physical growth (from toxins to cement) are of the essence.
We also know that all this will cost at least $8 trillion annually. Additionally, we need to create from scratch institutions that will coordinate the various works and distribute the costs and the benefits between the global North and the global South. The task seems enormous. In a world where even the modest Paris Agreement lies in tatters, it is terribly easy to surrender to despair.
This is precisely why we need a New Deal narrative at a planetary scale. Franklin D. Roosevelt’s original New Deal succeeded because it came at a time when the grapes of wrath were filling and “growing heavy for the vintage”. Its singular achievement was to address people who had given up and to inspire in them the hope that, astonishingly, there is an alternative. That there are ways of pressing idle resources into public service. The New Deal’s success was to present a plan that made sense to the disheartened and offered opportunity to the entrepreneurial; a plan that changed the frame from which a majority of people assessed their circumstances.
The key questions of funding and distribution can also be answered through this new frame. The $8 trillion we need annually will have to be financed both from public and private sources. Public finance, just like in the original New Deal, must involve transnational bond instruments and revenue-neutral carbon taxes – so that the money raised from taxing diesel can be returned to the poorest of citizens relying on diesel cars, in order to strengthen them generally and also allow them to buy an electric car.
Meanwhile, tax evasion will only be dealt a major blow if we introduce a global minimum effective corporate-tax rate on multinational corporations of, say, 25%, that is then redistributed on the basis of a simple formula taking into account the geographical distribution of sales.
To plough these resources into green investments, we could propose a new Organisation for Emergency Environmental Cooperation, or OEEC – the namesake of the original OEEC which, seventy-five years ago, administered the works funded by the Marshall Plan in Europe. One main difference from the 1950s is that today’s task is not simply to re-build but to develop new zero-emissions technologies. No country alone can fund the requisite research and development. The OEEC would, thus, pool the brainpower of the international scientific community into something like a Green Manhattan Project – only one that aims, instead of mass murder, at ending extinction.
Even more ambitiously, the PI can propose an International Monetary Clearing Union, of the type John Maynard Keynes suggested during the Bretton Woods conference in 1944, including well-designed restrictions on capital movements. By rebalancing wages, trade and finance at a planetary scale, both involuntary migration and involuntary unemployment will recede, thus ending the moral panic over the human right to move freely about the planet.
Organisation
The need for a Common Agenda and a Common Collective Action Plan means that the PI needs to feature an international organisation . The great question for us all is: How can we create this essential organisation without falling prey to the usual organisational pitfalls; e.g. bureaucracy, exclusion, power games?
This is a difficult question that members of the PI Council must address – one that I have no answer for. However, not having an answer at this point is a good thing, since this is an answer we must discover together.
The one point I want to make at this juncture is that the difficulty in answering this question, and setting up an effective organisation, is no excuse for not proceeding. The bankers and the fascists have found answers. Granted that it is harder to find answers to this question as progressives who reject hierarchies, bureaucracies and the encroachments of paternalism, we have a duty to find them nevertheless.
An International Green New Deal is necessary but not sufficient: The PI must look beyond capitalism
Friends, Some say that the time for a Green New Deal has come and gone. That it is now too late. That capitalism cannot be civilised, tamed or rendered compatible with humanity’s survival. I have to admit that I tend to agree with them, in part at least. An International Green New Deal is necessary, on this I have no doubt. But I don’t believe it is sufficient.
Consider what happed on 12th August 2020, the day the news broke that the British economy had suffered its greatest slump ever. The London Stock Exchange jumped by more than 2%! Nothing comparable had ever occurred. Similar developments unfolded in Wall Street, in the United States. My interpretation is that, when Covid-19 met the gargantuan bubble with which governments and central banks have been zombifying corporations and financial institutions since 2008, financial markets finally decoupled from the underlying capitalist economy causing capitalism to evolve surreptitiously into a horrid postcapitalism – not, of course, the postcapitalism that convinced socialists once envisioned.
Our PI needs seriously to take into account the possibility that capitalism is not only worth terminating but, more pressingly, that capitalism has already undermined itself. If I am right on this, even members of the PI who entertain hopes of reforming, or civilising, capitalism, must consider the possibility that the PI has a duty to look beyond capitalism – indeed, to plan for a postcapitalist civilisation.
Glimpses of postcapitalism
While this is neither the moment nor the place to plan for postcapitalism, it is useful to imagine what a postcapitalist world might be like. Without a capacity for such contemplation, mixed in with our realistic International Green New Deal, our PI will fail to inspire either us oldies in need of a boost of hope or the generation of youngsters seeking a vision worth fighting for.
In a book that came out just this week, called ANOTHER NOW, I try to imagine that my generation had not missed every pivotal moment history presented us with. What if we had seized the 2008 moment to stage a peaceful high-tech revolution that led to a postcapitalist economic democracy? What would it be like?
To be desirable, it would feature markets for goods and services since the alternative –
a Soviet-type rationing system that vests arbitrary power in the ugliest of bureaucrats – is too dreary for words. But to be crisis-proof, there is one market that market socialism cannot afford to feature: The labour market. Why? Because, once labour time has a rental price, the market mechanism inexorably pushes it down while commodifying every aspect of work (and, in the Age of Facebook, of our leisure even). The greater the system’s success in doing this, the less the exchange value of each unit of output it generates, the lower the average profit rate and, ultimately, the nearer the next systemic crisis.
Can an advanced economy function without labour markets? Of course it can. Consider the principle of one-employee-one-share-one-vote. Amending corporate law so as to turn every employee into an equal (though not equally remunerated) partner, via granting them a non-tradeable one-person-one-share-one-vote, is as unimaginably radical today as universal suffrage used to be in the 19th Century.
By granting employee-partners the right to vote in the corporation’s general assemblies, an idea proposed by the early anarcho-syndicalists, the distinction between wages and profits is terminated and democracy, at last, enters the workplace – with the new digital collaborative tools standing by to remove all inefficiencies that would otherwise hamper the prospects of a democratically-run corpo-syndicalist firm. Besides the democratisation of firms, it would bring the demise of share markets and terminate the need for gargantuan debt to fund mergers and acquisitions.
Already, some Central Banks are thinking of providing every adult with a free bank account. If this goes ahead in a society without share markets, why would you want an account with a private bank? Once debt leverage linked to share markets and personal banking disappear, so does commercial banking. Goldman Sachs and the like become extinct – without even the need to ban them.
What if we were to take this idea further, proposing that the Central Bank also credits each such account with a fixed monthly stipend (a universal basic dividend). As everyone would use their central bank account to make domestic payments, most of the money minted by the central bank will be transferred within its ledger. Additionally, the central bank can grant all new-borns a trust fund, to be used when they grow up.
Thus, persons would receive two types of income: The dividends credited into their central bank account. And earnings from working in a corpo-syndicalist company. Neither need be taxed – the end of income and sales taxes (VAT). Instead, three types of taxes fund this type of government: A 5% tax on the raw revenues of the corpo-syndicalist firms. A carbon tax. And proceeds from leasing land (which belongs in its entirety to the community) for private, time-limited, use.
Once this principle is embraced, a market-socialist blueprint almost writes itself. Freed from corporate power, unshackled from the indignity imposed upon the needy by the welfare state, and liberated from the tyranny of the profits-wages tug-of-war, persons and communities can begin to imagine new ways of deploying their talents and creativity.
Conclusion
Friends, I tried to outline the reasons a Progressive International is essential at our present moment in history.
Faced with the onerous task of fighting against the Twin Authoritarianisms wrecking the future, we need: A common plan of what needs to be done worldwide. A common campaigning framework for energising progressives around the world to implement our common plan. A common international organisation to coordinate our campaigns. And last, but not least, a common will to envision postcapitalism – together. Our Progressive International is a unique opportunity to meet this challenge. Across the world. Together!
