When the Cat's Away, Mice Buy Comics

Apparently, when Shawn is away on business trips, my mind craves all things animated. Not only have by been comic book power shopping like a True Nerd, but I also stayed up last night until 1 AM watching Anime with my nephew Jonathan. Jon has been trying to get me to see "Berserk" since forever, so I spontaneously called him up yesterday and asked him if he wanted to come over and watch it with me. We ate too much kettle corn and had too much fun.

And only got through half of it, the "light...

The Quantum Bullet of Scott Evil

At MarsCON, I learned that Captain America (the Steve Rogers version, as opposed to the current Bucky Barnes version,) was _not_ shot and killed by a regular bullet.

No, apparently, Red Skull being the sort of evil overlord who tells people his devious plan with exactly enough time for the hero to thwart it, decided rather than just killing Cap dead (the simple option), he'd have the brainwashed Agent 13 shoot Steve with what Brian Thao Worra called a "quantum bullet" in order, I gather, to ...

The Marvel(ous) part of the Weekend

So as I mentioned HPB, that means I have some comic books to review. I seem to pick these things up with accidental themes, though this set was perhaps more obvious. This time, it was villains. This is a particular favorite subject of mine, because way back in the 90s, I answered a Marvel survey in one of the many X-Titles Shawn and I were reading during college that asked what superheroes we thought should get their own series. I suggested Magneto.

Thus, even though it meant breaking fr...

Weekend Report (Part 1)

On Friday, Mason had the day off school. He had decided a few days ago that he really wanted to spend a day in the woods. So, after dropping Mama off at work and grabbing me a cup of coffee to go, we hit the trails. I had packed a lunch and we wore our water shoes. Despite the cooler temperatures, Mason went into the first water we saw. He loves to throw rocks and hear them sploosh. He's loved this since he was a toddler, and he can still spend hours doing it. We were at the bog when we...

Oops, Off Again

A lot has happened in the last few days. I chaperoned an all-day field trip to the "big" Minnesota Zoo, got Mason's veggie garden ready for planting, and attended another Kids and Kin event at Sacred Paths.

Moving backwards through time, yesterday, was the zoo trip. It was fairly stressful. The way the teacher decided to handle the field trip was to assign each parent/chaperone a small group of four kids and told us to run free. I can't imagine a better way, but this meant that all the res...

Off the Grid

Sorry for the silence. I was off the grid.

My gerbils have decided to fight. What's funny about this is that when we bought these two, the cashier (and the sales person) both warned us that gerbils can get territorial and "fight to the death." I've owned gerbils on and off for decades. We NEVER had gerbils fight. Ever.

But these two are also our first girls (and first set of siblings). Maybe it's a gender thing. Or a family group thing.

Anyway as part of all this excitment, I discover...

Weekend Report

The weekend was very busy. The grandparents (my folks) came for a visit on Friday, which was great, especially as Mason got to play in their hotel pool. I got caught up on all the family news, etc., and, on Saturday morning, Mason weaseled a doughnut run out of my folks as well as got to "show" grandpa all the new games on the PC.

After lunch, my folks headed home and we headed off to a birthday party in Oakdale (?) at "Pump it Up" for one of Mason's buddies. This one was not optional dro...

Distracted and Dazed

According to my friends here at Amore Coffee, it's possible that I'm having an allergy attack even though I have no outward symptoms other than just being tired and sort of out of it. It makes a certain kind of sense. I wonder if taking an antihystimine will help? I may try later.

Today is Thursday, which is my busy day. In a little bit I need to go home and change the fish tanks, do a little housework, and then head off to Mason's school for volunteer foldering (which is better than consc...

Weird Day, So Far...

My astrologically inclined friends should tell me what's up in the universe because I feel very clumsy and "off," today. I got plenty of sleep and I've had two cups of coffee, but I still just sort of feel disconnected (and my allergies aren't acting up in any visible way.)

Weird.

Anyway, I was just on Facebook and I have to say that people are strange. Sometimes I think really hard about what to put in my status line and I get no response, and some days, like yesterday, I make an off hand com...

Apparently a Re-Run, but Still Amazing...

Last night, Shawn's back was hurting so I stayed up in the TV room to write. As Mason is falling asleep he likes the sound of the TV going in the other room, so I dutifully turned it on. I mostly ignored the noise and flashing lights and wrote. (Weirdly, this is a skill I developed over the years and actually got almost 3,000 words in last night.) BUT, by chance I caught a re-run of a September 2009 Law & Order that made me stop typing, sit up, and take notice.

I was kind of half paying at...
