Too Damn Much Good News
Okay, so I _was_ going to compose a nice note about all the stuff I've been doing around the house, like building shelves over the kitchen doors for all our cookbooks and the lovely fresh fruit parfay I made for desert, but NO... I keep getting good news!
My editor just sent me this, and I nearly died:

Words of Wisdom from Peter Rabbit and Harry Potter
One of my favorite scenes in Beatrix Potter is where Peter Rabbit has gotten his brass buttons caught on netting in the farmer's garden. He gives in to dispair and "shed big tears." But a flock of sparrows "flew to him in great excitment and implored him to exert himself."
This is the long way of saying that Mason is still in dance class. The solution was, in point of fact, snack. We have also consistantly showed up about ten minutes early so he can see us waiting as class is finishing up. ...

Dancemania
When Shawn and I picked Mason up after dance class last night it was evident he'd been crying. Shawn stayed behind to talk to the community education assistant, while I took Mason to the car. All he told me, of course, was that he didn't want to do dance class any more. What Shawn found out was that he seemed to have had a great time (particpating, etc.,) until the end when she said "he just seemed done" and got very nervous about whether or not we'd remember to pick him up.

Deep in deadline
So I've got about 15 days to write 30,000 words. That is, if I want to have a completed draft by the end of the month so I can give it to my beta readers to review in enough time for me to make whatever changes they suggest before polishing it up and sending it to my editor on July 15.
That probably sounds like a complaint, but it isn't really. I'm in full-on panic-mode, no doubt. But I was just sitting upstairs on my sunporch listening to the rain outside the open window and watching Ms....

Deadline Fever, But...
I need to mention a couple of things. First of all
naomikritzer
found this awesome ad on Craig's List Minneapolis:
Star Wars Character with Lightsaber Experience
Can I just say I _love_ the line, "Lightsaber skills a must." Because, you know, that's easily demonstrable. Also, how many zillions of local fans right now are thinking, "damn, I have the costume, but not the Jedi training!!" Or, "Crap, I can only move things with my mind, Yoda wouldn't teach me any of the awesome moves!!"
Actually...

Fan of Rain, not BP
I adore rainy days like this one, especially since yesterday was so beautiful that I was distracted. I sat on my front porch, writing, but when I think I look up... and I saw the outside, calling to me to plant a boulevard garden. Which I did.
We went to Shady Acres Herb Farm on Sunday, which is all the way out in Chaska or just beyond, and bought a ton of herbs. Mason is a big fan of parsley, so we got two whole flats of curly parsley for his garden and mine. We got sweet basil, dill, thy...

So....
All you folks who were at WisCON, tell me how it was!! I'm dying to know.
We had a great time in LaCrosse, as usual, with some hikes along the marsh trail and a couple of aborted attempts to go to the carnival in Onalaska (--just as well. It was HOT.)
Mason is now back at school and I just realized HOW SOON my (okay, Tate's second YA,) book is due. Even though our friends, the Jacksons, are in town for a couple of days, I'm going to have to put my head down and get busy.
Of course that kind o...

OMG, the Hot
I think the heat and humidity melted my brain. It certainly ated my ability to do much other than lay around yesterday after Eleanor, Mason, and I hit Como Zoo. It was actually pretty pleasant walking around for the most part, but we luckily gave up before 2:00 pm when the humidity, etc., became soul crushing.
It was quite fun to show off the new interpretive center, tropics trail, and fern room to Eleanor who had not been to Como since all those big changes. It's funny the sort of vicari...
