Shameless Self-Promotion
Oh, I just got word that this is available through Genre Mall:
As you might expect, there are a ton of fabulous Minnesota writers included in this anthology. My story is not, alas, in the AngeLINK universe. It's a very weird story kind of, sort of about the death of Senator Paul Wellstone (only not) and magic and the Irish Republican Army (only not.) Anyway, you should, if nothing else, check out the link to see the list of the other contributing authors and the titles of their stories. It...

Labor Day LaCrosse Style
One of the cool things about my hometown of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, is that they have an actual Labor Day parade. Interestingly, it's not a city-wide parade. It happens only on my side "of the tracks" (though in LaCrosse, socio-economic class was historically divided by a swamp/undeveloped wetlands,) on the North Side. Mason loves the parade because all the unions that march throw candy.

Back from Vacation...
Did you miss me?
The family and I were in LaCrosse, WI, visiting my folks. It was a bittersweet trip this time because my great aunt Clara has been moved to a nursing home after two strokes (at least). Nursing homes are depressing, even really nice ones like the place Clara is. Then, I've come back to a pile of e-mail (most of it junk), and a rainy, dreary day.
The only cool thing that's happened (so far), is that today is Mason's first day back at school. He's now a second grader, who, inc...

Not Much New...
After yesterday's big news, today is kind of a let down. I'm at the coffee shop with Eleanor and
naomikritzer
and Mason (his last Wednesday before school starts), trying to decide if I should work on my overdue synopsis for Almost #3 or if I should plot out a short story.
Meanwhile, Mason has green hair. He just got his hair cut at Kid's Hair, and they always give him a little spritz of color. It looks good, actually, though it reminded me of the Joker at first. The lady at the hair plac...

Squee!
I knew this was coming, but it was still incredibly awesome to see. Resurrection Code is now available for pre-order on Amazon.com!
As many of you know, this book is BOTH a sequel and a prequel to Apocalypse Array. The back cover copy goes something like this:
-----
Where were you the day the Aswan dams broke? It's the question that defines my generation. Me, I was stuck in British School al-Rehab hundreds of kilometers from the destruction that plunged North Africa into darkness and drowned t...

Finished!
By this, I mean that Mason and I finished reading DEATHLY HALLOWS. As predicted (once again by
naomikritzer
) Neville Longbottom rocks my world. Though I don't think the image of him pulling the sword of Gryffindor from the Sorting Hat was quite as awesome for me because I was at least partly expecting it, thanks to the Wikipedia Death List which we had to keep close at hand. I can't imagine the shock for those of you who read it as it happened.
I wasn't prepared for Neville coming out of th...

Mundanity and then... the Zoo?
I have a most UNinteresting day planned so far. Thursday is traditionally my day to do some stuff around the house. It's animal day. I'll clean the fish tanks (or at least one of them, I've been doing the bigger one on Sunday or Monday lately,) change kitty boxes, fluff up the gerbil cages, and do the dishes, take out recycling, etc. I'll also have to clean out the fridge since we're getting another CSA box today. Pretty damn exciting, no?
If there's time, Mason and I will try to get out a...

German Cover Art and Stuff
This morning I came in to an email from the fine folks that included me (or, rather, Tate,) in the anthology MANY BLOODY RETURNS. They were passin on the image of the cover art for the British edition of the book. It's not really much to look at, but it got me thinking. I haven't gone looking for my German editions of Tate's second, third, and fourth Garnet books. Well, I found them, and they're right cute. Check 'em out:

Pesto for the Apocalypse
I haven't talked much this year about our CSA. Last year was the first time we tried Driftless Organics and I was an instant convert. In fact, I loved it so much that instead of the half share we bought last year, this year we went with full.
And then the rains came. According to the weekly newsletter, it's been as wet in south central Wisconsin as it has been here.
Thus, we haven't gotten a lot of produce to write home about, honestly. We've gotten some pretty good sweet corn, a few awe in...

My Dazzling Life (with cats!)
I got my nonfiction thingie done for the web editor at Romantic Times. She claims to be pleased, so I'll take that as a you-didn't-suck-too-much. :-)
I think given the responses I got on Facebook about not liking to write nonficiton I should clarify something. The kind of nonfiction I particularly suck at is the kind that requires me to publicize myself or my books. Writing letters home (or blogging, which is kind of like a public letter home,) doesn't bother me. I can talk endlessly abou...
