Ramblings about Life
Wow, the week disappeared again. What's up with that? It's summer vacation I blame. After all, most of the time Mason and I are far away from the internets and whatnot... so I'm effectively off the grid. Then it's suddenly Wednesday.
The big thing looming on my horizon is that we're planning a staycation at a local waterpark/hotel. Should be a blast.
The thing I need to work on today just came up. I came in to an email to my alter ego asking if I'd be interested in a feature spot in the...

Up North!
I had a busy weekend. I had a talk at Midwest Fiction Writers (the local chapter of the Romance Writers of America) about ALMOST TO DIE FOR's "journey." I ended up babbling about a bunch of vaguely unrelated stuff, including telling the story of how weird it is to be on TV. I was only disappointed that I couldn't hang around for the regular meeting because their guest speaker was none other than Lois McMaster Bujold.
BUT, I had to pick up my cat, Inky, at the vet. Turns out my vet and th...

Much Less Cranky
Yesterday, I got over my cranky in two ways. 1) I discovered that fixing (aka building) the broken link actually took only about ten minutes. It is, if you're interested, here: Almost to Die For Excerpt. I must have whined for at least twenty minutes, so I made myself feel pretty foolish for getting all worked up about something that took so little time.
2) I went to the beach. Mason and I like to go to Lake Josephine, and yesterday afternoon was perfect weather. It was hot... so hot tha...

Off-the-Grid Again
Sorry I haven't kept up with the ol' blog. Mason is out of school and more often than not that means I go off the grid. Though lately, the biggest thing keeping me away from my computer is the damn heat. If we're at home, I'm laying like a complete slug melting in a pool of my own sweat. If we're out in a/c, we're, well, out... and it's not always convenient to sit in one place.
Ah, but I'm just complaining. I've been in a complaining mood all week.
Because, honestly, I couldn't even tell ...

So, um, hey...
I totally forgot to promote my booksignings. So, uh, if you happen to be in Minneapolis at 1 PM tomorrow, you wanna come see me at Uncle Hugo's? No? How about the HarMar B&N at 2 pm?
I just got back from the woods. Mason and I took his rattata for a walk. For his birthday, he got Pokemon Heart Gold for the DS, and a feature is a pokemon pedometer, to which you can download one of your pokemon and take them for a walk. And Now... Back to Reality
As you can probably imagine, I got nothing done yesterday. When I went home (after zipping over to the history center to chat with Shawn about all the weird of being on TV), I found dishes in the sink that needed doing and a stinky garbage. I ignored the latter and rolled up my sleeves and took care of the former... and suddenly, I was just me again. And all was right in the universe.
I also got the make-up off with generous applications of soap and water, and I was really grateful because ...

TV is weird.
Today was the big day. I got up ridiculously early, considering I wasn't on until 10:30 am. BUT I had to drop Mason and mama off at school and get all the way out to KARE-11's studios to do the whole hair and make-up thing at 8:30 am.
First thing I had to do this morning was dial-up to the internet to find out what Bonnie (the hair and make-up artist) said in answer to my last minute question of -- what should I wear? Specifically, were they going to show my legs? Could I get away with jea...

Me, Me, EVERYWHERE
The Book Butterfly posted a lovely 10-question interview with my alter-egoon her blog, which you should check out: "Ten Tantalizing Questions with Tate". Alas, I have since learned that RESURRECTION CODE won't be out until March 2011. However, just for fun, let me reprint one of my answers as a teaser here.

What? It's Thursday? Seriously??
Okay, I'd been hoping to get back to the blog before now, but I guess that's one of those best laid plans. Eaten by mice!
At any rate, I can't even say I've been particularly busy. I have been desperately trying to catch up on things that need doing around the house. I am still VERY SLOWLY painting the neighbor's side of the fence. I think today I managed another four slats. And just to completely irritate her, I started on the opposite end. To be fair, one of her other workers has propp...

A Quickie (Update, That Is!)
I only have about ten minutes before I have to pick up Mason from school, but I wanted to give y'all a quickie update.
Saturday was Mason's birthday. He turned 7. (I know! Ancient, right?) My folks came on Friday night and we all played in the hotel pool, had Red Savoy pizza, a Harry Potter cake from Wuollets, and opened presents. Mason got the usual loot -- LEGOs and DS games (Pokemon Heart Gold and Mario Brothers).
