Not Much, You?

Last night I called my folks, who are wintering in Texas, and one of the first things my dad asked was: "Did you get that German article done?"

No.

But, I still have a couple of days! And, I have to tell you, avoiding writing non-fiction has totally inspired my fiction writing. I've been in a weird kind of daze... the other day I wrote about 4,000 words (some of them transcribed from an earlier draft of RESURRECTION CODE, mind you,) which is still absolutely insane for me.

This has been the ...

Okay, I Need YOUR Help.

I'm sitting at the coffeeshop this morning banging my head. I'll tell you why. I've got about three days to write an article about "the Wiccan aspects of [Tate's:] series..." for the German equivalent of Romantic Times to help promote NICHT SCHON WIEDER EIN VAMPIR (Not Another Vampire) aka TALL, DARK & DEAD.

First of all, I *suck* at writing non-fiction. They only want 500 words, which is really, nothing, but it might as well be 500,000 for as difficult as I'm finding this. Secondly, Wicca?...

Where HAVE You Been?

I've been writing, I'm happy to report. The month of January (and probably the first few weeks of February) are officially RESURRECTION CODE month. The only other things I have to do are write a very short article (500 words) for a German magazine to promote the German publication of Tate's books over there, and try to remember how to set up Cute FTP so that it recognizes my website. (Both mine and Tate's websites are woefully outdated.) I may have to break down and call Doug [info:]

Sledding pictures

Since I talked about this so much, I thought I should post this lovely shot Sean M. Murphy got of Mason heading down the Country Club hill on his saucer. This image was taken on Thursday, the last relatively decent day for sledding. Ever since the minus zero windchills have kept us from "the slopes."

Here's another lovely one of the two of us on the inner tube style sled the folks got us. This was one of its last runs. You can see the attempted patch of duck tape shredding underneath. A t...

The Best Hill EVER

After yesterday's first run at sledding, I promised Mason that we'd go every day of vacation. Today was quite the adventure. Since we discovered the packed snow was quite hard on the old buttinski, we were determined to try out the inflatable sled grandma and grandpa bought us for Solstice.

Step one: figure out how to actually inflate the thing. Did I mention that it's almost as tall as me? Shawn, being Shawn, had in the basement an air compressor that hooks up to your car's lighter plug. ...

Politics, Snow, etc.

I should probably not post somewhat inarticulate political rants. Thanks for all the thoughtful responses. My main issue is that I just don't want to see us give away the next election to the bad guys just because we're mad at the moderate guys. I wish we could elect people more to the left, instead of having to choose the least offensive of the offensive people, you know?

Anyway, speaking of health care reform, I'm still sick. I'm fairly certain I have some sort of bronchial type infectio...

Giving Up is Easy

As I posted on Facebook, I am so bored by all you progressives who have given up on Obama. How trendy to be angry. How incredibly USELESS.

Okay, before anyone jumps down my throat, let me explain. I was listening to Cathy Hauser's AM950 "Radio Cafe" show on Saturday, and I actually heard some yahoo call in to say he's done with Obama, "good riddance" he said.

The problem, IMHO, is that I suspect that this caller isn't using his anger to do anything. I may be wrong, but I've seen a lot of...

Still Alive (Still Coughing)

I just wanted to drop a quick note to let y'all know that I'm still above ground. I took a break from writing/working on my revisions for _Almost to Die For_ to celebrate the holidays. What, already? Yep. Our family exchanges some gifts at Christmas time, but, for us, the big deal day is Winter Solstice/Yule (which was yesterday.) My folks (who are secular humanist/Unitarians) came up on Sunday to exchange some gifts and whatnot, and we had a great time. Mason got some great winter loot...

Still Hacking... oh, and Writing too.

Quick question: if I (as Tate Hallaway) write a novel where there's a hereditary group of Witches that ACTUALLY derive their power from, well, Hell, how angry do you think my fans will be?

But wait... see, here's the thing. I already laid idea this out in my young adult novel because I'm tired of traditional vampires and wanted them to be something else entirely. And, really, what it means is that I'm playing with angels again... or, at least, one variety of them. But, you know, I just got to...

Mauled.... Again!

I spent this morning at my least favorite place (the Mall) again. Worse, the place I went to *cough*theLEGOstore*cough* didn't have what I was looking for. (I'd say, but it's a secret and Mason might read it here.)

Plus, I decided I hate the Mall's Barnes & Noble. Specifically. More precisely I hate the people in the children's department, but I think maybe it extends to all the book buyers. Here's the thing. I'm looking for a particular book to buy for a friend. The book is NOT out of ...
