Intermittent Fasting 18-Month Update | The Results are In

Six months have passed since I did my Intermittent Fasting one year update and I have so much more to share with you. I'm dishing on all of the positive changes I'm seeing in my health after adopting intermittent fasting for the past 18 months.
Disclaimer: Please consult your doctor before trying intermittent fasting, especially if you are currently taking medications. Intermittent Fasting is not advised for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
The last time I gave you an update, I shared that I lost 29lbs through intermittent fasting. When I reached that weight, I no longer wished to lose any more, so I made a few changes. Mainly, I introduced cream back into my morning coffee, which I was previously drinking black. I was curious about whether the weight loss would plateau or if I would continue to lose weight. I'm happy to say that the most I ever lost was one more pound and I have happily plateaued at my current weight.

Everyone will have different results with intermittent fasting and my results might not necessarily be your results. I have also seen major improvements to my health in other areas too. I used to suffer from chronic sinus infections, which contributed to an overall puffy effect on my face, as you can see in this "before" picture.

I am not sure if there is a correlation, but my chronic sinus infections have ceased since I began intermittent fasting and you can notice the swelling and inflammation has left my face as is evidenced in this "after" picture:

You can also see the weight loss dramatically in my old clothing, which used to fit me quite snugly.

Overall, I am very happy with doing the intermittent fasting 16:8 method. It has become a way of life for me. In today's video I share details about all of the results I've noticed.

I also answer many of your questions. If you have further questions, please leave them for me in the comments and I can potentially address them in a follow-up video.

Fall Homemaking: Cook, Clean, and Decorate with Me

Autumn Slumber By Jennifer L. Scott
Autumn slumber Awakens dreams Of misty meadows And winding streams Mundane is bland The season stirs Cozy abundance Harvest prefers Prepare the home Pumpkin custard Spode Woodland beauty Steak with mustard
Cozy mysteries Folding clothes Guessing whodunnit I think I know
Maple candle Cardamom dream Fall is in the air Topped with whipped cream
Welcome back to The Daily Connoisseur. Fall is in the air and even though it is still warm outside, I can sense the air shifting. There is a crispness in it. I like to mark the change in season in various ways… in the way I dress, in the way I cook, in the way I decorate… and, of course, in the china cabinet.

Spode is one of my favorite brands of china. Their Woodland line was first created in the 1980s and features a wide variety of woodland creatures.

I was doing some research on the world’s most collectible china and Spode Woodland comes in at number 4, right behind Spode Blue Italian… Interesting… I truly enjoy styling this china cabinet and I know… when the china changes… the season is officially celebrated in our home.

I bought some purple mums at the garden center for our outdoor table. But first, I need to wipe that table down. I love spending time out here and will take any excuse to come and sit on the patio. We’ve been regularly stocking our bird feeders. Word has gotten around in the neighborhood and the most marvelous little (and sometimes big) birds come to call. I like to make hummingbird nectar from sugar and water too and oh, how they love it. Now that the table is wiped, it’s time to place down the mums. Are mums the official flowers of fall? If not, they should be.

I wanted to show you my Carl Larsson windowsill, which is coming along beautifully. I modeled this after Larsson’s famous painting, Flowers on the Windowsill, from 1894. I have a geranium, various cacti, some chives, and even a Venus fly trap. This cozy ledge brings me so much joy.

I love burning fall candles too. This one is Cardamom Milk by Otherland. It’s a subtle, fall scent, that is reminiscent of chai tea.
Time to change the tablecloth and sweep the floor. What I like most about the blue cabinets in our kitchen is that they transition with all the seasons beautifully. Fall and Winter colors look equally good with spring and summer ones. This tablecloth has taupe and woodland colors.
It’s a new day and I’m going to make a pumpkin custard. Here is the printable recipe card for your convenience:
{"image":"https://i.imgur.com/TxFQP1P.jpg"... Custard","video":null,"recipeIngredient":["1 15 oz can pureed pumpkin","2 eggs","1 cup half and half","2/3 cup brown sugar","2 tsp pumpkin pie spice","1/2 tsp salt","1/4 cup brown sugar","1/4 cup chopped pecans","2 Tbs butter, melted","Whipped cream","Cinnamon","Extra chopped pecans"],"recipeInstructions":["Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.","In your mixer bowl, combine all of the custard ingredients and beat until well-blended. Pour the custard into greased individual oven-proof dessert ramekins. Place the ramekins in a larger 13 x 9 baking pan. Fill the pan with hot water, one inch high. ","Bake for 20 minutes.","Meanwhile, assemble the topping. Mix the brown sugar, pecans, and melted butter together. After the custard has baked for 20 minutes, add the pecan topping on each serving. Place back in the oven and bake another 40 minutes, or until the custard is fully cooked through. ","Please note: if you bake this in one large dish like I did, the bake time will be much longer. It totaled nearly 1 1/2 hours for me. ","Serve warm or chilled. Top with whipped cream, a dash of cinnamon and extra pecans. Enjoy! "],"@context":"http://schema.org","@type&q..."}

Time to cook up some dinner to go with our special dessert. I have two large steaks I’m going to sear on the Le Creuset grill and then finish off in the oven. If you watched my What’s for Dinner? Video last week, you saw the parsley caper compound butter I made. I’m going to use that here on these steaks and also on our baked potatoes… or jacket potatoes as Ben calls them. Served with some streamed vegetable and topping the potatoes with chives… this is a hearty fall supper.

And now time for that delectable pumpkin custard. I am spooning out the custard into individual dessert bowls, topping with whipped cream, a few more chopped pecans, and cinnamon. Completely delicious This would make a great dinner party dessert as you could make it ahead of time and keep it in the fridge before serving. I hope you enjoyed today’s fall homemaking video and that it got you in the mood for the cozy fall days ahead.

Virginia writes, "Great advice. I do journaling and have written my autobiography, however not published. I’m guilty though of waiting for inspiration for doing my oil painting, lol. I constantly make lists and have been doing this for years. I have already started my lists for Christmas. It is very satisfying to cross off items on my lists. I’m 82, and time is so very valuable. 👍👍👍🇨🇦"
Virginia, I think it's wonderful that you've written your autobiography. Everyone should do this to, if nothing else, hand down to their family to preserve the family history. I wish you much success with your book!

What's in My Bag? Fall 2021 | Handbag Essentials

This summer I fell down the rabbit hole watching What's in My Bag? videos on the Christian Dior YouTube channel (the strange things we watch...). I enjoyed watching them very much and realized it had been a long time since I did one for my own channel. So, today I'm sharing What's in My Bag?
The bag in today's video is a Smythson Panama Moon bag. This beautiful handbag was a gift from my wonderful in-laws, and I enjoyed using it last Fall/ Winter season and look forward to doing the same this year. I love how spacious it is. While the bag is no longer available, I am linking Smythson here. The Chic Assignment | September 2021

Welcome to The Chic Assignment for September, 2021. It's great to be back from my YouTube break and I'm pleased to start off with my favorite series... The Chic Assignment. I have an excellent month lined up for you. Let's get started!
⚜️Chic Assignment No. 1 Debussy Clair de Lune
It's about time we studied Debussy. When I asked what your favorite classical music piece was on the YouTube community tab, many of you mentioned Clair de Lune.
One of the best renditions I've ever heard is by Tiffany Poon. I am leaving her stellar performance here:
I am also leaving you with this magnificent performance by Lang Lang. We not only hear Debussy's world-famous masterpiece, Clair de Lune, but we also receive an evening tour of Paris on the Seine. You won't want to miss this one. We will learn more about Debussy in the mid-month check-in. Stay tuned for the end of this video because I will be reading the poem, Moonlight, by Paul Verlaine, which inspired the piece.
⚜️Chic Assignment No. 2 Explore the artwork of Gwen John

Gwen John (1876 - 1939) was a Welsh artist who lived and worked in France the majority of her career. She is known for her portraits of women. I learned about Gwen John because one of the Chic Society members pointed out to me that one of her portraits looked exactly like me...

I looked up the painting, Woman in a Red Shawl, painted in 1923, and was pretty astounded. I think this is my doppelgänger. What do you think? So I became intrigued by Gwen John and we will be studying her works this month. We will learn more about this fascinating artist in the mid-month check in. In the meantime, you can check out her work here.
⚜️Chic Assignment No. 3 Compile your fall ten-item wardrobe
We started preparations in August, and now it's time to finalize the details on your fall ten-item capsule wardrobe. (Spring capsule wardrobe for our Southern Hemisphere friends.) Even if you don't do the ten-item wardrobe, it's a great idea to be intentional about what you plan to wear this season. Homemaking for Pleasure | August Teatime

Welcome to my final video of August... In this season finale, I'm sharing the most pleasurable aspects of homemaking for me: decorating, baking, and teatime.
August
We are August in the midst,
Ending now our summer tryst.
Luscious things dying away,
Mounting heat that still persists.
Turn we now to Autumn fare,
Flowers in a vase to share.
Dreaming of a cooler time,
And crisp scents that fill the air.
Though summer’s lease is up soon
Seems like we were just in June.
Florals that can capture love,
Teatime in the afternoon.
August, you were kind to me,
Comfort when my heart did plea,
Ushering me to the Fall,
Like a welcome cup of tea.
- Jennifer L. Scott
We start with a look at the new Cole & Son wallpaper in the dining room. Here is the before...

... and here is the after.

The wallpaper is by Cole & Son. It is the Winter Birds in the shade, Linen.
Before I do some flower arranging, I'm going to make my final summer pie for the year: the classic strawberry pie.
{"image":"https://i.imgur.com/T52AXBj.jpg"... Strawberry Pie","video":null,"recipeIngredient":["1 pie crust for a single pie","1 egg (for egg wash)","4 cups whole strawberries, hulled","1 cup sugar","3 Tbs cornstarch","3/4 cup water","1/2 cup heavy whipping cream","1- 2 Tbs confectioner's sugar"],"recipeInstructions":["Roll out your pie crust and place in a deep dish pie pan. Trim, poke holes in the bottom of the crust with a fork, and brush the fluted edges with egg wash. Place pie beads in the bottom of the crust. Bake your pie crust at 400 degrees F for 12 to 15 minutes, until done.","Place one cup of the hulled strawberries in a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth. In a sauce pan, add the pureed strawberries, sugar, and cornstarch mixed with water. Whisk over medium to low heat until the sauce becomes thick. ","Arrange the rest of the strawberries in the pre-baked pie crust. Pour the hot strawberry sauce over the pie. Allow to set in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours. ","Whip the heavy cream and confectioner's sugar until fully whipped. Serve a dollop of whipped cream on top of the pie. Enjoy. "],"@context":"http://schema.org","@type&q..."}

And now for the flower arranging. I like to consider the room the arrangement is going in. That will determine height and color.
I'm doing an elegant and understated bouquet for the dining room to match the neutral tones of the space.

The kitchen will have this beautiful purple bouquet, composed of mums, roses, and lavender. The purple in the bouquet brings out the blues in the cabinets.

And finally, it's time to tea. Time to enjoy the scrumptious strawberry pie, with whipped cream and PG Tips... Bliss.

Comment of the Week
Christina writes, "This video was literally a breath of fresh air for me today. It seems I run into more and more people ready to jump straight into controversy over something I don't agree with, or sometimes I don't even know the reason they are just on edge when I meet them. It's hard sometimes to be patient and non-judgemental when there are people who go into attack mode so easily. It is in my nature to be a peace-maker, but I don't always know how to do that. Your video on remaining unbothered has motivated me to not give in or give up. You gave me some good ideas to try, good words to remember and work with. Plus, it is very encouraging to be reminded there are a lot of people, like those who follow your channel, being "elegant"! Thank you!"
Thank you, Christina! Yes, tensions are high right now and it can be hard to deal with some of the attitudes and tempers out there. I'm happy the video gave some good coping mechanisms.
I hope you all enjoyed this last video and blog post of August. Thank you for your support of my channel. I hope you have a lovely rest of the summer too and I'll see you back in September!
Love,
Jennifer

Fall Wardrobe Planning | Ten-Item Capsule Wardrobe

Welcome back to The Daily Connoisseur. Today I am going through my ten-item capsule wardrobe to see what will stay and what will go for Fall.
If you have been following my intermittent fasting story, you know what I've lost some weight in the past year. This has affected my wardrobe as you will see today. I try on several of the garments that I thought I'd be keeping for fall. Many of them simply do not fit anymore.
I go over what will stay and what will go in today's video and discuss my accessories and overall wardrobe strategy for Fall. I hope you enjoy today's video.

I might be most excited to wear my Thursday Boots Captain boot again. I have them in the shade Old English and Black Matte.

Comment of the Week
C.M. writes, "Holding one's tongue is a lost art in these times."
C.M. - most people would agree with you. The internet has made all of us trigger-happy with our words and in sharing our thoughts but it is wise to pause and hold our tongues, especially in tense situations. Thank you for your comment!
I hope you enjoyed today's fall wardrobe planning video. I would love to know how your fall wardrobe is going. Let us know and your comment could be chosen as comment of the week on the blog.

8 Ways to Not Overreact and Remain Unbothered | Lessons in Elegance

In my last video on being polished and elegant, many of you requested an in-depth discussion on how to not overreact. How do we remain unbothered and keep our cool when we are actually feeling very heated? Elegant people don't blow a gasket when they are angry. I'm sharing 8 ideas in today's video that will help you keep calm and remain classy... no matter what.
1. When you are angry and prone to overreacting… pause. Do nothing and see what happens.
“Practice the pause. Pause before judging. Pause before assuming. Pause before accusing. Pause whenever you're about to react harshly and you'll avoid doing and saying things you'll later regret.”― Lori Deschene
2. Analyze how you react to situations, because awareness is the first step: Novelist, Ellen Glasgow said, “What happens is not as important as how you react to what happens.”
Become conscious about how you react to situations. Epictetus said, “It’s not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters.”
These quotes are powerful because we can’t control what happens to us. That is out of our control. What we can control is our reaction to these events. Notice patterns in your overreactions… is it with a specific person? Are you triggered by their mere presence? If so, notice that and be extra calm and vigilant around them. Know your triggers.
3. Use their negativity as a motivator for you. Andy Warhol has been a major inspiration for me in this area. He dismissed his critics as not knowing what they were talking about and kept on making art. You do the same and allow other people's negativity to be a motivator for you.
4. Never respond to someone when you are angry. I found some great Chinese proverbs on this one: Anger is always more harmful than the insult that caused it. (Chinese Proverb) Never answer a letter while you are angry. • In the midst of great joy, do not promise anyone anything. In the midst of great anger, do not answer anyone 's letter. • If you are patient in one moment of anger, you will escape a hundred days of sorrow.
5. Gain control of your tongue. This requires self-discipline. Proverbs 21:23 KJV Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles
6. Don’t neglect yourself. If you are sleep-deprived, not taking care of yourself, not eating well… you can easily become a man or woman on the brink. You are going to be extra sensitive and touchy. Take time every day to care for yourself. Afternoon tea, a quiet walk in the garden, time to read a book or paint or do what you love. Refer to my video on not losing yourself as an adult. When you feel a general happiness with your life, you won’t be so touchy to others.
7. Look at the big picture. When you are panicking about society… (and you know I love to panic about society), look at the big picture. I had a lightbulb moment when I was talking to Richard Thompson Ford, the author of Dress Codes. When we were looking at the history of fashion, I decided to be less judgmental about modern dressing sense. I mean, most of it still hurts my eyes, but I have chosen to take a proactive stance on the channel by offering content that can hopefully inspire people to dress better... and that is all I can do.
8. If you pray...Pray! – We are not all the same with our spiritual lives, but if you are a person of faith and pray... don't forget to pray when you feel inclined to overreact! You will receive that peace that passes understanding and often get clarity. If you don't pray, do some practice that is meaningful to you that will help you to calm down.
