Can You Have a Glow Up After 40?

Can you have a glow-up after the age of 40? Let's discuss this in today's video.

First, what is a glow up?

A glow up is an incredible transformation. The glow up process focuses on the improvement of physical appearance, individual style, overall attractiveness ... a mental, physical, and emotional transformation for the better.
Clearly there are many aspects to a glow up. Today we will focus on the surface-level aspects involving overall appearance: looking good and projecting that into the world.
⚜️5 Key Points to an Attractive Glow Up
Glowing Skin
Skin is a big deal as you age. The key is to take care of it and display healthy skin. For me, it's less about erasing signs of aging... those aren't going away and they add character. It's more about embracing your skin as it is and taking care of it optimally.
I use the Paula's Choice Skincare products and they come at my highest recommendation. Here is a list of what I use on a regular basis. I order these on their subscription. Please use whatever skincare line you love the most! The key is to take care of your skin. You can do that on any budget. It's about being intentional.
Hydrating Cleanser Perfect Cleansing Oil Advanced Replenishing Toner 2% BHA Exfoliant Barrier Repair Moisturizer with retinol Vitamin C booster Purifying clay mask
A Vibrant Smile

How did you get those laugh lines in the first place? From so many years of smiling! :) A vibrant smile is a key to your glow up: being happy in your own skin and radiating it through your unapologetic smile.

Intermittent Fasting

The biggest part of my glow up transformation after 40 can be attributed to Intermittent Fasting. You can read my 18-month update here if you want to learn about my experience. I do the 16:8 method of intermittent fasting and was able to lose 30 lbs and improve my health in immeasurable ways. Disclaimer: Please consult your doctor before trying out intermittent fasting.
Flattering Makeup
Robe by Plush Necessities

We age, but sometimes our makeup routine doesn't. We don't want our makeup look to be stuck in a past decade so it's important to stay au courant with the modern trends by watching makeup tutorials or consulting a professional. Here are some of my favorite makeup brands:
MERIT Minimalist Makeup A'DEL Natural Cosmetics TDC20 for 20% off bareMineralsTarte Too Faced Charlotte Tilbury

The older you get, the more you realize your time on earth is short. Every day should be spent expressing your true style. The ten-item capsule wardrobe can help you do that as you refine what you wear each day and become intentional about how you present yourself to the world. Check out my recent Core Items post and Extras post for fall inspiration.

Comment of the Week
Cynthia S. writes, "What a phenomenal interview! So inspirational. Jose is such a beautiful person and talented artist, so humble and well spoken. I have known since I was a child that I should pursue a career in art. I have since graduated college, married, and had children. I remember as a first time mother, making and creating and trying to balance motherhood. I decided then that I really had to prioritize motherhood. My tiny house at the time couldn't handle a messy niche. I have truly been in hot pursuit of my dreams again. I appreciate this interview and people who share their art story more than ever! Thank you, Jose and Jennifer."
Cynthia, I'm so glad you enjoyed my interview with Jose Trujillo! I am wishing you the best for your own artistic career.
I hope you enjoyed today's video. I would love to know... have you had a glow up? What contributed to it? Let us know and your comment could be chosen as comment of the week on The Daily Connoisseur.

Comment of the Week Tammy writes, "I loved this video, I’ve always been afraid of color myself. This video gave me some inspiration!!! Also loved the desks in the homeschool room, can I ask where they are from? Or any other ideas on desks. I love your style and would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks!!!"

Thank you, Tammy! The desks are from Living Spaces. I find them to be very sturdy and I love the blue color. They even have outlet plugs on them, which is handy.

It was a splendid conversation and I truly hope you enjoy it. I hope you enjoyed this discussion on the ten-item capsule wardrobe. 5 Ways to Create a Jewel Box Room | Home Tour 2021

I'm sharing 5 ways to create a jewel box room in today's video. What is a jewel box room? House and Home describes it as: a room layered "in rich color, pattern, your most treasured items and glamorous finishes to fill every nook and cranny. Regardless of square footage, your home should feel collected and personal."

Let's look at the 5 Ways to Create a Jewel Box Room

⚜️ Video Time Stamps0:00 What is a Jewel Box room?1:39 Be Bold with Art3:16 Birch Living Sponsor5:20 Embrace Themes6:43 Accessorize Your Decor8:26 Embrace Color10:23 Add a Personal Touch

Be Bold with Art

When you search "Jewel Box Room" on Google, you will frequently come across rooms with gallery walls. Filling the walls with your favorite works of art, whether originals, reproductions, or prints, creates a rich and cultured feeling in the home. My favorite places to look for art are on eBay, or with original artists on their own websites. I like to find reproductions at Great Big Canvas

Embrace Themes

When a room has a theme, it can feel more pulled together. The theme we are building in the guest room is "vintage poster art". The theme in the master bathroom is Paris Rooftops. You can also have a color theme like "The Blue Room". Or you can have an animal theme like "The Bird Room".  Vintage poster art can be found at Great Big Canvas. The bedding here is from American Blossom Linens.

Accessorize Your Decor

Accessorize your decor with plants, floral arrangements, books, throws, and lighting fixtures that compliment the space. I love orchids for the exotic flair they add to any room.

Embrace Color & Pattern

Don't be afraid to embrace color and pattern to make your room feel personal and curated.

This is our bird room with the gorgeous Cole & Son Winter Birds wallpaper

We love our blue kitchen cabinets with brass knobs...

Add a Personal Touch

This is the most important tip. A jewel box room should feel personal as though the objects in the room mean something to the family who live there. An art piece with history behind it, your favorite books, a blanket that was knitted just for you.... these are the finishing touches to make your house feel homey.

Comment of the WeekTrudi writes, "The video made me laugh when you showed your chest freezer. My Mom used to make a joke that we would remember her butt because she was always digging in the chest freezer (family of 10…. With a funny Mom). That’s the reason I bought an upright freezer. Loved the recipes. Just bought a pumpkin loaf at Costco and froze 3/4 of it since it’s just my husband and I now. But muffins is a great idea. You have inspired me to bake! ❤️"
Trudi- I love those funny memories we have of our loved ones. Sounds like your mother had a great sense of humor! Thanks for sharing with us.

Stocking the Chest Freezer for Winter | Baking Day | Fall Muffins

Mega Motivation continues this month as we explore garage organization. I thought I'd show you our chest freezers and how we keep them stocked with food that helps us stay prepared with our large family. Check out the Mega Motivation playlist here to see how the other YouTubers organize their garages.

Today's video not only shows you our chest freezers, but shares my favorite muffin recipes for freezing.

The Chocolate Chip Banana Bread recipe can be found here.

Bake in the oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until done. .ccm-wrapper,.ccm-wrapper *{box-sizing: border-box;}.ccm-wrapper h3{margin: 0;}.ccm-show{display: block !important;}.ccm-link{color: #4193f0;}.ccm-wrapper{color: #000;max-width: 620px;position: relative;padding: 20px 20px 0;margin: 20px auto;background: #f2f2f2;border: 6px double #6672E5;}.ccm-name{all: unset;display: block;font-size: 20px !important;font-weight: 700 !important;letter-spacing: 0px !important;}.ccm-info{position: relative;font-size: 14px;margin-bottom: 20px;text-transform: capitalize;}.ccm-author,.ccm-yield{display: inline-block;}.ccm-yield{margin-right: 30px;}.ccm-wrapper img{margin: 0 !important;padding: 0 !important;max-width: 100%;}.ccm-btns-wrapper{position: relative;}#ccm-printbutton{margin: 0;color: #fff;padding: 0 20px;font-size: 14px;border-radius: 3px;cursor: pointer;height: 35px;background: #555;border: 0 !important;outline: 0 !important;display: inline-flex;align-items: center;justify-content: center;}.ccm-print-options{display: none;white-space: nowrap;position: absolute;top: 32px;right: 0;z-index: 2;background: #fff;border: 1px solid #ccc;}.ccm-print-options button{display: block;background: 0 0;border: 0;cursor: pointer;padding: 10px;width: 100%;text-align: left;}.ccm-print-options button:hover{color: #fff;background: #555;}.ccm-head{color: #000;font-size: 20px !important;font-weight: 700 !important;margin: 30px 0 0 !important;text-transform: uppercase !important;}.ccm-section-title{font-weight: 700;font-size: 16px;margin-bottom: 10px;}.ccm-section{padding-left: 20px;line-height: 1.7;margin: 10px 0 30px;}.ccm-section-items{margin: 0 !important;padding: 0 0 0 30px !important;}.ccm-section li{margin: 0 0 6px !important;padding: 0 !important;}.ccm-section-steps li{line-height: 1.6;margin-bottom: 10px !important;}.ccm-posturl{padding: 15px 0;border-top: 1px solid #ccc;}.ccm-posturl a{font-size: 13px;}.ccm-notes{line-height: 1.7;}.ccm-notes-inner{padding-top: 10px;}.ccm-notes p{margin-bottom: 0 !important;}.ccm-copyright{font-size: 13px;font-style: italic;line-height: 1.6;padding: 15px 0;border-top: 1px solid #ccc;}.ccm-credit{font-size: 12px;padding: 10px;text-align: center;background: #fff;margin: 0 -20px !important;border-bottom-left-radius: 10px;border-bottom-right-radius: 10px;border-top: 1px solid rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.15);}.ccm-credit a{color: #00f;text-decoration: none;}.ccm-keywords,.ccm-categories,.ccm-cuisine,.ccm-video,.ccm-section>br,.ccm-time br{display: none;}.ccm-summary{text-align: center;margin: 20px 0;line-height: 1.7;font-style: italic;}[data-ccmcardnum='1'] .ccm-wrapper{border:0;border-radius:10px;box-shadow:0 0 10px rgba(0,0,0,.25);}[data-ccmcardnum='1'] .ccm-image{text-align:center;height:300px;margin:-20px!important;overflow:hidden;border-bottom:3px solid #6672E5;}[data-ccmcardnum='1'] .ccm-image img{width:100%;height:100%;min-height:100%;-o-object-fit:cover;object-fit:cover;-o-object-position:50% 50%;object-position:50% 50%;border-top-left-radius:10px;border-top-right-radius:10px;}[data-ccmcardnum='1'] .ccm-btns-wrapper{text-align:center;}[data-ccmcardnum='1'] #ccm-printbutton{border-radius:25px;width:120px;height:40px;font-weight:700;text-transform:uppercase;background:#6672E5;}[data-ccmcardnum='1'] .ccm-print-options{right:calc(50% - 53px);}[data-ccmcardnum='1'] .ccm-name{text-align:center!important;margin:40px 0 20px!important;text-transform:capitalize;}[data-ccmcardnum='1'] .ccm-info{display:-webkit-box;display:-ms-flexbox;display:flex;-webkit-box-pack:justify;-ms-flex-pack:justify;justify-content:center;}[data-ccmcardnum='1'] .ccm-time{border-right:0;border-left:0;margin:0 -20px;border-top:1px dashed #000;border-bottom:1px dashed #000;}[data-ccmcardnum='1'] .ccm-summary{margin-bottom:25px;}[data-ccmcardnum='1'] .ccm-summary:after{content:'';display:block;width:50px;height:2px;background:#000;margin:auto;margin-top:10px;}var ccmPrintWin = null;function ccmpr(btn) { var id = btn.id; function ccmprNow() { if (ccmPrintWin == null || ccmPrintWin.closed) { ccmPrintWin = window.open("", "printwin"); } else { ccmPrintWin.close(); ccmPrintWin = window.open("", "printwin"); } var d = ccmPrintWin.document; d.querySelector("body").innerHTML = btn.closest(".ccm-card").outerHTML + "<link rel='stylesheet' href='https://common.recipesgenerator.com/p... if (id == "ccm-printWithoutImage") { d.querySelector(".ccm-image").remove(); } var n = d.createElement("style"); n.innerHTML = document.querySelector(".ccm-card-styles").innerHTML; d.querySelector("head").appendChild(n);ccmPrintWin.print();}if(id === "ccm-printbutton"){var po = btn.closest(".ccm-wrapper").querySelector(".ccm-print-options"); po ? The Chic Assignment | October 2021

Welcome to The Chic Assignment for October. This month holds a host of new discoveries for me and I can't wait to share them with you.

Chic Assignment No. 1 Corelli Concerto Grosso Op. 6 No. 8

Arcangelo Corelli (1653 - 1713) was an Italian violinist and composer in the Baroque era. We are listening to his concerto grosso op. 6 no. 8 this month. This concerto is perfect for autumn. We will learn more about Corelli in the mid-month check-in.

Chic Assignment No. 2 Enjoy the poetry of Rainer Maria Rilke (1875 - 1926)
Portrait painting of Rainer Maria Rilke by Leonid Pasternak - public domain

You probably saw this coming... after studying Gwen John last month and learning that she was good friends with Rilke, we are studying his poetry this month. Rilke was an Austrian poet and novelist. You can read his poems for free online at the Poetry Foundation or you can read a book of his collected poems.
Day in Autumn by Rainer Maria RilkeAfter the summer's yield, Lord, it is time
to let your shadow lengthen on the sundials
and in the pastures let the rough winds fly.

As for the final fruits, coax them to roundness.
Direct on them two days of warmer light
to hale them golden toward their term, and harry
the last few drops of sweetness through the wine.

Whoever's homeless now, will build no shelter;
who lives alone will live indefinitely so,
waking up to read a little, draft long letters,
and, along the city's avenues,
fitfully wander, when the wild leaves loosen.
Chic Assignment No. 3 Stock your freezer for the winter I will be sharing a "bake with me" video for Mega Motivation on Monday where I stock our chest freezer with baked goods for the winter. I hope it inspires you to take stock of your winter food supply too and prepare for the upcoming change in season.
Chic Assignment No. 4 Define your interior design style We are going to explore interior design style this month as well. I would love to hear how you would define your interior design style. Use one word or a whole sentence to describe it. I find that consciously defining my style helps me to stay focused and consistent when decorating.

Intermittent Fasting What I Eat in a Day | 16:8 Method

I'm sharing another Intermittent Fasting What I Eat in a Day with you today. This video explores two unconventional days: a typical Sunday, which sees us enjoying a Sunday roast, and a day when we get takeout. What type of takeout foods do I choose on the Intermittent Fasting method?

Disclaimer: Please consult your doctor before trying Intermittent Fasting. This blog post is intended for entertainment purposes only. I am not a nutritionist so this blog post and video is not intended to give out nutritional advice. I aim to eat a well-balanced diet that is sustainable in the long term and this is what I hope to reflect in my videos.

Please note that for each day shown, I began with coffee at 7:00 am (I didn't film that part). I put heavy cream in my coffee... anywhere between 1 to 2 tsp in the morning. When I wanted to lose weight, I would not put cream in my coffee. Now that I am in maintenance mode and am happy with my weight, I have re-introduced cream back into my morning coffee. For each meal, water is to drink, unless otherwise indicated.

Day 1

Breakfast 9:15 a.m. - Strawberry Banana Smoothie with flax seed and whole Greek yogurt

Luncheon and dessert 12:45 p.m. - Pot roast with root vegetables Plates are Spode Woodland

Pumpkin custard. Crystal dessert cups (similar) and Spode Woodland teacups
Dinner 5:00 p.m. Shrimp wonton udon noodles with bok choy and sliced plum
Day 2

Pumpkin Pie Smoothie1 banana1/2 cup whole fat Greek yogurt1/2 cup pumpkin puree1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk1 Tbs ground flax seed 1 Tbs almond butter1 tsp vanilla extract1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
Blend all ingredients in a blender until incorporated.
Luncheon 12:15 p.m. We had take out today from WABA Grill... I chose the Waba Salmon with brown rice and mixed vegetables. Plate by Spode Woodland
Directly after lunch I had a chocolate truffle from See's Candies... yum!

Wine Etiquette 101 | Do's and Don'ts Everyone Should Know

I'm sharing wine etiquette tips that every lady and gentleman should know in today's video

Wine do's and don'ts: what are they? What are the basic rules we should remember when drinking wine. Whether you are an occasional wine drinker like I am, or you enjoy wine every day, these are wine rules to practice.

Do hold your glass by the stem or the base

Don’t hold it by the barrel or you will warm the wine

Do drink from the same spot on your glass

Don’t leave lipstick marks all over your glass

Do hold the bottle from the base when pouring

Don’t hold the bottle from the nozzle when pouring

Do fill your glass less than half-way up

Don’t fill your glass to the top

Do drink at a leisurely pace, matching that of your companions or less.

Don’t get drunk.

Do allow the waiter to refill your glass, if desired

Don’t down your wine while the waiter approaches so you can get the most in your cup. (this is the funny blooper)

Do clink the bell of the glass

Don’t clink the tip

Do look your partner in the eyes when saying "cheers"

Don’t look at the wine when saying cheers

Do offer to fill other people’s glasses before you fill your own

Don’t refill your glass first

Do make sure you’re drinking from your glass

Don’t accidentally drink from someone else’s glass

Do use the correct wine glass to drink wine in

Don’t serve wine in an inappropriate glass

Do take food into consideration when deciding on a wine to serve.

Don’t serve a Rosé with a hearty Bolognese, for example

Do Serve wine at the correct temperature:

Red wine at room temperature- 65 to 72 degrees F

Dry white wine should be chilled and served at 45 degrees F

Rosé chilled and served at 45 degrees F

Don’t serve your wine at the incorrect temperature

Comment of the Week
Galacticshield writes, "Jennifer's recreation of various paintings and artists makes art come alive: Larrson's window display of plants last month, a Frida Kahlo look (cute hairstyle), and today's recreation of Gwen John's "Woman in a Shawl". Where did you get the bright red shawl, Jennifer? I looked on MerSea's but didn't see a red one."
Thank you! I enjoy recreating these famous scenes. It is so fun for me. The scarf is around 12 years old and is by Love Quotes. I have it still and though it would be perfect for recreating the painting. Thank you for watching.
I hope you enjoyed today's post on wine etiquette. I would love to know what your experience is with wine etiquette. Do you have any horror stories to share with us? Any questions? Let us know and your comment could be chosen as comment of the week on the blog.

The Chic Assignment Check-In | Debussy & Gwen John

Welcome to The Chic Assignment Check-in for September. This month we are learning more about Claude Debussy and Gwen John.

Chic Assignment No. 1 Debussy's Clair de Lune

We are learning several interesting facts about Debussy today. The facts are pulled from Connolly Music  and Wikipedia. We listened to two beautiful performances of Clair de Lune this month: one from Tiffany Poon

and one from Lang Lang that included a tour of Paris at night.

Chic Assignment No. 2 The Artwork of Gwen John

Gwen John Self- Portrait, circa 1900 public domain

Gwen John (1876 - 1939) was a Welsh artist who lived and worked in France the majority of her career. She is known for her portraits of women.

I had fun trying to recreate her painting, Young Woman in a Red Shawl from 1923 this month. Today's reading of Gwen's biography comes from Brittanica and Tate.

Gwen John, The Convalescent 1923-1924 public domain

I love the general theme of John's portraits: women in interiors. You can Buy Gwen John reproductions here.

Chic Assignment No. 3 Prepare your wardrobe for fall

While the weather might not have shifted in your area, it's undeniable that the seasons are changing and when this happens, it's time to switch out our wardrobes for fall. Pack away your summer clothes for next year and assess your fall wardrobe. Go shopping for items on your list and keep a discerning eye. I'm noticing that because of the pandemic, new arrivals for fall are slightly delayed. Take your time and don't rush the process... enjoy it. I will be updating you on my ten-item wardrobe once I have my wardrobe compiled. For more inspiration, check out my e-course on the Ten-Item Wardrobe.

Chic Assignment No. 4 Introduce a new seasonal dish to your menu

Fall is my favorite time of the year to cook. I enjoy making hearty dishes that are full of flavor. Check out my latest What's for Dinner videos here, here, and here to get more inspiration for your fall recipes. Let us know what your favorite dish to make this season is.

3 Impressive Dinner Recipes That Are SO Easy to Make

Today I'm sharing three impressive dinner recipes that are so easy to make... but don't tell anyone! :)

Let's start off with the Slow Cooker Pot Roast. I've been making this easy, yet impressive dish for over 15 years. Use whatever root vegetables you have on hand.. the secret is in the onion soup mix sauce that you make after searing the roast.

{"image":"https://i.imgur.com/vKyyXDh.jpg"... Cooker Pot Roast","video":null,"recipeIngredient":["3 lb chuck roast (weight can vary depending on needs)","salt and pepper","1/4 cup flour","1 cup broth","1 packet onion soup mix","1 onion, cut in wedges","4 medium potatoes, cut in large pieces","3 large carrots, roughly cut in large pieces","3 stalks celery, cut in large chunks","1 pint mushrooms, halved"],"recipeInstructions":["Season the roast with salt and pepper, and rub extra virgin olive oil into the meat. Then sprinkle some flour on each side of the roast and rub it in nicely. In a skillet on high heat, sear the roast on both sides. About 2 minutes per side. Meanwhile, spray your slow cooker with cooking spray and add in one medium onion, chopped in wedges, 4 medium sized potatoes, peeled and chopped in chunks, carrots, celery, and mushrooms, all left in rather large chunks. You don’t want anything cut too small or it will turn to mush in the crock pot. Once the roast is seared on both sides, place it on top of the vegetables in the slow cooker. Keep the pan on medium heat, add around one cup of broth to the pan along with one packet of onion soup mix. Scrape up the brown bits from the skillet as you create this incredible sauce with all of the juices from the roast. Then pour on top of the roast. Cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours. This roast is so full of flavor and is a very impressive meal to serve your family or any guests you may have. Garnish with chopped parsley, ladle the au jus on top of the roast and vegetables and enjoy."],"@context":"http://schema.org","@type&q..."}Slow Cooker Pot RoastPrintWith ImageWithout ImageSlow Cooker Pot RoastIngredients3 lb chuck roast (weight can vary depending on needs)salt and pepper1/4 cup flour1 cup broth1 packet onion soup mix1 onion, cut in wedges4 medium potatoes, cut in large pieces3 large carrots, roughly cut in large pieces3 stalks celery, cut in large chunks1 pint mushrooms, halvedInstructionsSeason the roast with salt and pepper, and rub extra virgin olive oil into the meat. Comment of the WeekErin writes, "I started the Intermittent Fasting 8 hr. eating window and 16 hour fast, in July after watching your June video. I have lost 15 pounds just by limiting my eating window to about 9-5p. I pack my lunch and I pack a breakfast bar every day M-F and I also prepare a large tumbler of water to sip throughout the day. I am 61 years old and never thought weight loss could be this easy. I’m looking forward to lowering my risk of getting adult onset diabetes (this runs in my family). I was 182 ibs to start and this week I am 167 lbs. this week. Thank you Jennifer, I too feel like I am on my way to improving my health trajectory and this feels so satisfying. 🌻"
Erin, it was so exciting to read your intermittent fasting testimony. I'm so excited for you! Please keep us posted.
