February 13, 2021: How are you all doing?

I’d like to start off today’s entry by alerting you all to a fundraiser organized by a fellow longtime blog reader  who is facing some very difficult challenges.  Please click on the link for Drea’s story –

These are trying times for all of us, but some are clearly having a rougher time than most.  So I’d love to know how you’re all doing.  Drop a comment and let us know.

Here in Toronto, we’re well into the deep freeze, the coldest weeks of winter, and whatever minimal inclination we have to venture outdoors is reduced even further by the windchill and icy sidewalks.  Strangely, Suji seems relatively unfazed by the cold weather, ever-eager to head out to the park and happily trundling along when she gets there, oblivious to the freezing temperatures and blustery breezes, no doubt steeled by those early years spent living in a barn.  Part – okay, who am I kidding? – or most of her desire to get out has to do with the treats she gets once she starts motoring, but I’m beginning to think a small part of it is her growing fondness for open terrain.  Akemi and I have noticed she has been bumping into items with greater frequency of late.  Her eyesight is clearly diminishing, the result of the cataracts encroaching on her pupils, and while surgery is theoretically an option, it’s not something we want to chance given her age (16 this May!).  Akemi has suggested we get her doggles to protect her eyes, but I wonder if that would just constrict her already limited vision.

On the other hand, I’m sure she’d be the coolest dog in the neighborhood.

So I’ve been asked to comment on this recent “breaking news” regarding a rumored sale of MGM to Disney…

Yes, there’s a possibility this could happen but, in fairness, we’ve heard similar rumors in the past that never panned out.  Still, I find it interesting as Disney would be a good fit for one of the most family friendly sci-fi franchises in television history.

February 11, 2021: Projects! Yes/No! Marzipan!!!

All systems go across various fronts.  The TimEscape series overview and two scripts are finally going out to prospective buyers while my other time travel project (with producers Doug Pasko, Kristin Mente, Zac Reeder) gears up to head out as well.  Completed the series overview for Powder Mage with an assist from the brilliant Brian McClellan and the next step is to fashion the deck (complete with glorious visuals) and pitch proper.  Great feedback on the first draft of my pilot for (the sci-fi/gaming/k-pop mash-up) Project F and now looking forward to notes.

Meanwhile, switching gears to two other originals I have on deck – one is a rewrite of that YA military sci-fi series while the other is the pilot for a straight drama limited miniseries.  All I really require is the time to work on them.

I do love my marzipan…

February 6, 2021: Sushi, Suicide Squad, and Super Bowl Pick!

Akemi discovered a new sushi source this morning.  A former chef who used to work at one of our favorite restaurants in town has started his own sushi-sashimi delivery service, sourcing his fish from all over Japan and serving up some truly spectacular meals.

Our bentos arrived, beautifully wrapped.

Akemi ordered the sashimi omakase.

While I went with the sushi omakase.

Sadly, not pictured: the ultra-sweet fruit dessert that Akemi ate immediately upon unpacking.

You are no doubt wondering who I’ll be rooting for this Super Bowl given that this is the worst possible match-up so far as I am concerned.  Well, I’ve given it much thought and…

On the one hand, I hate KC, being a longtime Raiders fan.

On the other hand, I’ve always hated Brady and the Patriots.

But I guess I hate the Patriots organization more than I hate Brady and seeing him win a Super Bowl would no doubt drive them crazy.So, I guess I’m rooting for the Bucs out of spite.

February 5, 2021: Busy Day! Here, have some Stargate concept art and cosmic brownies!

Whew!  What a day.  Got feedback on the Project F pilot and the Powder Mage overview, strategized regarding three more projects, did some stock research, sourced and sent off some tax documents to my agent, and had four zoom calls with some amazing young and talented writers.  Oh, and also – and most importantly – I took Suji for a carpet run.  Now, just need to send off some notes on another project, hop on another zoom, and my day is done.
