See-Sawing Through

I wish I had a writing schedule to share with you. I really do.

But I don't. My life is like the old seesaw on the left of this. Up and down. And all around like the merry-go-round.

Yep, at times my life is like a trip to the playground including the bumps and the bruises.

See, I don't get to write full-time and lately, not even part-time. I work in retail management to make actual money that will keep me and my family fed, clothed, and housed. And last June I was transferred to a new stor...

A Day In The Life of a Kindergarten Mom

This week we're complaining about giving you a glimpse into our writerly lives. My writerly life isn't just writerly, though, that happens with a kindergartner underfoot. Take last week, for example: we had a snowstorm, then ice on top of that and what was supposed to be bebe's first week back at school post-holiday was actually a 1-day school week..and 4 days of mommy-daddy-tainment. I'm not complaining about that (too much) because we made the best of it and figured out how to handle her ne...

A Day in the Life of Me!

I have kinda a dull life, so not sure this is going to excite anyone. But here goes...

I don't think this is news to anyone, but I live on a small farm with a whole lotta animals! Usually, around 8:00, I roll out of bed and make myself coffee before I do anything. I like those mixes that aren't really coffee and not really water...kind of hot candy. But I like them, and I need one before I can get my eyes open.

Checking email and blogs is next. Then the dreaded Facebook. Once the Fa...

A day in the life...

6:00, or somewhere close to that, haul overweight self out of bed. It was easier when there was less of me to haul. Would be easier if it wasn’t dark and cold. No life like the one of a writer. Brush teeth and put hair into a clip. Empty dishwasher, start washer, get coffeepot ready for Husband who will get up in two hours, take morning pills, find something to eat that doesn’t require preparation, head for office. Make something hot from the Keuring. Write like a wild person with frequent vi...

Writers and Reviews

I looked at a few reviews for a book I thought about buying. I could immediately tell which reviews were written by writers or aspiring writers,. They read like critiques. If I read those reviews as a reader, I would have no idea what they were talking about.

A lot of the writing "guidelines" were listed. For example:

"The author did too much tell...

And Then At the Y

As many of you know I'm a full-time writer. I write my romances and I write for a couple non-fiction/business type places. I also teach water classes at the Y; it's a very part-time gig, but I've picked up some extra classes over the last few weeks because one of the regular instructors has been ill. I love writing and I never want to work 'full-time' outside the home again ... but I have to say, having these extra classes and the extra 'adult' interactions has been fun.

But the things you hea...

Frog Hoppin'

I went to the pool last night. I didn't go in immediately. I sat in my car and watched the ten or so new ladies, all with their bright new gym bags, and undoubtedly new swimsuits, march inside the building. I'm betting they all had great big resolutions--to get fit. To lose weight.

Those are great goals. I made a similar resolution back in September.

I've been going to the pool three times a week, rain, snow or shine. I do my crunches and my frog jumps and my laps. Because I have to to reach...
