Spring Fever!
This has been the longest winter on record across most of the country. It hasn’t been horrible here in Western Colorado, but I still have a terrible case of cabin fever. I love to flower garden. It’s one of my main passions. The ground is still half frozen and I haven’t had a single tulip bloom yet. We lease our acreage to farmers who grow corn. They’ve begun plowing, the scent of fresh turned earth fills the air. The horses are shedding their winter coats and are in that funny molting stage...

The way to peacefulness
First off, congratulations and thanks to Laura Strickland for naming the cat in my WIP. Caruso is a big Russian Blue, complete with green eyes and ringed tail (brought to my writerly mind by one of Cheryl Reavis's Cats She Does Not Own--right, they own her!) She’s a girl, but she has a loud voice, so Caruso is her name! Also, congratulations and thanks to Kristi Knight, who gave the little dog in the story the name of Wally, short for Walter Mittens (I don’t know his breed or when he’ll...

HAPPY SPRING!
And Happy Birthday to one of my favorite people.Forty-four years ago, I was blessed with a baby sister. I already had a younger sister--2.5 years younger, but Wendy was born when I was eight. She was the true baby of the family.
My mom says that after Wendy was born, Debbie and I would come and ask, "What did we do before she was born?"
And I know I've thought that many, many times over the years.
In Junior High, Wendy was my shadow--always wanting to do what I was doing, go where I was going. ...

Different Kinds of Creativity
The past few weeks I've been working on a different kind of project, along with my books. You all know I'm not that great of a gardener (although I try) and while I can cook well I don't really enjoy it. But I do like (and I'm getting good at) sewing and quilting. And so when new fabric for a new baby nephew arrived on March 1 I knew I would get right down to business cutting out squares and piecing together sashing and figuring out block placement and binding and all the rest.I like quilting...

#AuthorInterview - Laura Barnard!
Time for another visit to the Round Corral, WordWrangler readers! This time we've got Laura Barnard in our sights and we're not going to let her off easy! Lets get right to it!Liz: What woman alive or dead would you want to have dinner with and what would you talk about?
Laura: Jennifer Laurence – she just seems hilarious! Plus she’d actually eat a dinner, not like a lot of Hollywood types. I’d ask her to describe what kissing Bradley Cooper is like, then get her drunk and take his...

Jake and Kalamazoo? Name the cat and dog.
I am not one of those writers whose minds teem with so many ideas they’ll never get them all written. No, not even if they live to be 110 and write every day for the rest of their lives. Neither am I one of those writers who is able to plot out her whole story before writing the first chapter and knowing her hero and heroine inside out and crossways. No. I have to scrabble between books for even ONE idea that is viable, because I do of course already know the hero and heroine and the story mu...

So long, Bill.
My friend Bill passed away this weekend. I’ve known him my whole life and there’s a lonely spot now that wasn’t there before. But Bill was in his 90s, had recently broken a hip, and was ready to go. He had, as a matter of fact, been ready to go since May 18, 2008, when his wife Mae passed away. That was when the man who’d always played cards wouldn’t play anymore because he didn’t have his partner. It was when, even when he was flirting with you—and Bil...

My Name Is...
Heard a news report on the radio a couple of days ago. A woman named Icantina Turner was arrested for trying to smuggle drugs into the country from the Carribean. And yes, Icantina Turner was the name she was given at birth. For those of you who don't understand where I'm going with this, Ike and Tina Turner was a very popular group in the 60's and up until Tina Turner left Ike and went solo. Ever heard of Proud Mary? Great song. Google it. Anyway, this woman was named after them.
