Historical Fiction Research Settings with guest Ilona Fridl
What does the land look like? How is the town laid out? How do the buildings appear, inside and out? What kind of plants grow there? What kind of animals are around? What is the weather pattern?
To have an authentic visual in your story, you have to study the area you choose to set it in. As things change through the ages, you have to study what was there and what wasn't. For example, if your setting is in London, England in the 1500s, you can have a scene at the Tower of London, but you could...

Really?
I've read a lot of rants about TSTL (too stupid to live) heroines. Okay, I get it. I can't stand them either. Know what I hate even more? TSTL heroes.
I just watched a movie with the dumbest hero EVER. Here's the gist. Five college friends go to a town to interview the author of a book about a serial killer in his home town. Serial killer stalks students. Hero stabs killer once, drops the knife, and runs. Of course killer isn't dead. He does stupid crap like this throughout the movi...

As Times Change--
I am so late in posting this, I almost considered not doing it. But then I went to Blockbusters and had a little epiphany. Can one have small epiphanies?
I know some of you are surprised that I found a Blockbusters as they have been mass shut-down over the past couple of years and this one is no different--it's in it's last days.
My epiphany was how much I think we're going to miss by not having movie stores. And how much we'll miss bookstores if Barnes and Noble can't find a way to compete wit...

#AuthorInterview with Sharon Cullen!
Hiya, WordWrangler Readers! It's our pleasure today to welcome Sharon Cullen into the Round Corral for a little Q&A session (and to get a peek at her new historical Loving the Earl, of course)!
WW: Please tell us a little about yourself.
Sharon: This is always a tough question because I want to be different and to make myself sound so exciting. Like I’ve travel all over the world and jump out of airplanes and swim with sharks. But, sadly, I don’t do any of those things. For one, I’m terrif...

Guest Paty Jager
Pack Horses to Dog Sleds When I decided to place Jeremy’s story in Alaska, it was so I could show a part of history that I’m not proud of. While visiting Skagway, Alaska on our 30th anniversary Alaskan cruise, I was appalled to learn of the 3000+ horse carcasses that littered the White Pass. My plan was to have my hero be a guide and packer using horses. He starts out that way at the beginning of the story, but the year and time I needed, because of the great rush for the Yukon was so short,...

Charlene Raddon and TAMING JENNA
The Wranglers welcome author Charlene Raddon to the round corral today. Tell her hello and be eligible for a drawing for a $30 Amazon gift card. Just leave a comment with contact info. She'll also be awarding three copies of my new book to randomly chosen participants!

On my way to no
As in: NaNo this year?Uhm. No. I don't think so.
But then--
Maybe I should try to finish my WIP or at least add 50K of substance to it. Even though the official rules of NaNo suggest that you begin with a new project. However, if you read the fine print, it says if you've finished NaNo or a book previously, it is okay to work on WIP.
So--I was thinking about going that route. Finishing my WIP, but I hadn't committed. I didn't go to any local pre-NaNo activities or even to my NaNo pag...

Thanks to Word Wranglers for sharing their space with me today!
I'm so excited to be able to share a little bit about you TO LOVE AND SERVE, my new vampire romantic suspense release in THE CALLING/REBORN vampire novels.

All about me...again!
Way too often, I’m all about me. I don’t wantto be—I want to be the Mother Theresa of feminism, the light of reluctant liberalism, the best cook in Grandmothers of America, Best Example of Christianity you know, the…well, never mind, I’m not those things. But I am in there swinging. And, whether I like it or not, I think I write about myself a lot.
No matter what my heroines do for a living,...

#AuthorInterview - Aleah Barley
Hiya, WordWranglers! We're putting Aleah Barley (and her new romantic suspense Leaving Las Vegas) in the round corral today to answer a few pressing questions...
WordWranglers: Aleah, ready or not, here we come! Please tell us a little about yourself.
Aleah: Howdy, Wranglers! My name’s Aleah Barley, and I write funny (I hope) contemporary romance… during the night. By day I work hard to save the world, using the power of my brain (I’m a researcher). I’ve got a hot boyfriend, a fluffy cat, and t...
