Book Expectations
Every book launch is unique. But they all have something in common, too.
They all take the author on a journey that ends up somewhere they didn't expect to go.
I'm not saying you won't achieve some or all of the goals you set for your book. You just may. But don't be surprised if you don't. Or if you achieve goals that you didn't even know that you had.
That's the Joy of the Author's Journey!

Do as I say, not as I've done
Do as I say, not as I've done. I've been a published author for 10 years now and my author brand is all over the place because I didn't do the branding work upfront. I was not clear. I was not strategic. I just followed the whims of my heart and the content in my hard drive.
That's not the way to do it. I've learned my lesson and now I'm busy cleaning up the mess.
I don't want that for you. Get clear on your brand direction first. Stick with it for a couple of years. You can always pivot later.
Your brand isn't written in stone. But if you aren't clear and purposeful with each book you write, you'll end up like me with an online footprint that's a mess and that often attracts the wrong opportunities your way.

Where would you go?
I may be sitting at my desk working on my next big project, but my heart's currently lazily drifting down a river in Yosemite Valley, something I haven't done since elementary school.
Humor me and tell me if you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

What Frankenstein's Monster taught me
Once upon a time, I had a dream. I was in a dark medieval castle, walking down a stone staircase. Soon, Frankenstein’s monster came climbing the stone steps toward me. He stopped and asked, “If you don’t inspire, you expire, right?”
I nodded.
He continued up the stairs, placing his large hand on my shoulder in gratitude as he passed.
Within the dream, I knew he had asked me that question because he intended to go upstairs and strangle the life out of someone I knew. But when I awoke, I realized his words had a deeper meaning for me.
When a writer’s words inspire an emotional response … be it fear, sorrow, or joy … those words and the tale they tell are remembered. But if they don’t, the words expire into the mists of mediocrity.
