What’s your favorite?

What is your favorite book-to-movie adaptation?

Many of my favorite movies are book-to-movie adaptations, but for some of them I still haven’t gotten around to reading the source material. Other book-to-movie adaptations, I’m on the fence about. But, my #4 favorite film of all time is Enemy Mine, and it is a pretty good adaptation of its source book.

Your brand bouys your books up

Your books will come an go. However, if you really want them to have legs, build a brand that bouys them up. Think Stephen King, J.K. Rowling, and Jackie Collins. Love them or not, they all have strong brands that bring them sales of both past and present titles alike.

Which scares you more?

If you haven’t finished your book yet, you need to ask yourself this question: Which scares you more? Going to your grave never having published your book? Or publishing a book that flops?

In my opinion, you can recover from the latter. The former is pretty permanent. Let that sink in.

What do you think?

“The amount of money you make is in direct proportion to the amount of value you provide.”

How many times have you heard this concept spouted off? So many gurus say it. It has become a platitude that is accepted as a fact. Do you believe it? Have you experienced it?

I’m not 100% convinced that it is true and I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences around this concept.

Close Encounters of the Book Marketing Kind

Wouldn’t it be cool if you could just launch your book on Amazon and suddenly all your ideal readers would be drawn to it like the UFO witnesses in Close Encounters of the Third Kind were drawn to Devils Tower in Wyoming?

Alas, that’s not how it works. You need to get the word out about your book.

And it all starts with your author website, which is the hub of your online presence and is a useful tool for offline marketing, as well.

That’s why a dedicated author website is your most important book marketing asset.

Book marketing made “easy”

There are so many ways you can market your book, it boggles the mind. But you don’t need to do it all.

> First, find out what will resonate best with your ideal readers.

> Then, from that pool of options, choose the ones that you’ll enjoy and will do the most consistently.

That’s it.

If you want to do more, you can hire those tasks out to people who enjoy doing those tasks. Then everyone is happy!

AI and writers

Isaac Asimov wrote a short story called “Fault-Intolerant” about a computer that took over his writing and started writing in his name without his lifting a finger. It was supposed to be a cautionary tale with a hint of horror. And yet we are now embracing this type of technology with gusto. I, myself, use a AI software to help get my copywriting juices flowing from time to time. But now, they are applying this to much more creative work, such as a novel. Things that make you go hmmmm.

What do you think about the growth of AI in the writing fields?
