National Tell a Joke Day

OK. Today is #NationalTellAJokeDay. Let's see if you can make me laugh. (I bet you can, I'm usually about one breath away from a laugh all the time anyway.)

In return, here's one of the funniest jokes of all time according to Reader's Digest:

A turtle is crossing the road when he’s mugged by two snails. When the police show up, they ask him what happened. The shaken turtle replies, “I don’t know. It all happened so fast."

Have a laugh

My husband. My cat. Myself.

They all make me laugh. And laughter boosts the immune system, relaxes muscles, aids circulation, protects against heart disease, can lower anxiety, release tension, improve mood, and foster resilience. Because of its contagious nature, it has been suggested that it may also encourage bonding among groups of people.

So let's all have a good laugh, eh?

Share something that makes you laugh so that we can all laugh, too. I'll go first!

I wondered why the frisbee was getting bigger ... then it hit me.

Why do you never see elephants hiding in trees? Because they're really good at it.

World Elephant Day!

Happy #WorldElephantDay! From 1969 to 1971 I lived in Kenya with my Mom and Dad. My little sister was born there.

Although lions were my favorite animal, I've always had a deep respect for Elephants. They carry a certain peaceful gravitas about them. Quite amazing animals.

When I was little, seeing elephants in the wild was not that strange. But times have changed. They are not as numerous as they once were. And, of course, I don't live in Africa anymore. :-) So I have to be satisfied with watching them at a zoo.

What's your favorite thing to do at the zoo when you visit an elephant exhibit? Do you have a favorite picture of an elephant? If so, please share!

It doesn't matter what you call it

Outline. Blueprint. Diagram. Skeleton. Framework. Roadmap.

It doesn't matter what you call it, what matters is that you do it. If you want to get from point A (an idea for a book) to point B (your book in readers' hands), the first best step is one of those doohickies I just listed out.

And I'm going to bust through the common misconceptions that have been preventing you from using this powerful tool for completing your books on August 14, for FREE! Sign up now so you won't miss it: https://authorneering.com/writefaster/

The blog post that changed my life

In March 2015, I wrote a post that changed my life. It was called "Some favorite books" and you can read it here: https://www.carmaspence.com/some-favo...

I thought I'd share it because today is #NationalBookLoversDay. I would love it if you'd share some of your favorite books with me, as well!

Anyway, how did that simple post change my life? Well, it was inspired by Christopher, who was then a guy in my Toastmaster's club I thought was kind of cute (OK, I was a bit more into him than that). So I wrote the post and then sent him a simple email message letting him know that he had inspired it.

That email inspired him to ask me out. Six years later we've been happily married for almost five years!

This is the power of books, the power of words, and the power of email all wrapped up into one story. We all have stories like this that have changed our lives. The trick is taking notice so that we can tell those stories later and continue the inspiration. Are you paying attention to the everyday stories in your life?

5 common misconceptions about book outlines

5 common misconceptions about book outlines:

1. They require a formal format
2. They limit and constrain creativity
3. They are only for linear thinkers
4. They must cover the entire content of the story/book before writing
5. They don't allow for the discovery process during writing

These are the reasons I'm doing the free live training "How to Write Your Book Faster with Creativity and Ease" ... because I'm done with seeing so many authors flounder about when this simple tool can help them achieve their dreams. And all that's keeping them from using the tool is a change in perspective.
