National Planner Day

"If we fai to plan, we merely bob helplessly -- like a cork on the sea of life. If we resist whatever life delivers to us, we create untold misery for ourselves. If we act with vision and commitment, and then accept whatever Spirit provides, we live a life of purpose and joy."

- Johnathan Lockwood Huie

Today is National Planner Day, which is why I chose to share this quote. But it strikes me that although Huie is talking about planning for one's life, he could easily be talking about planning one's book.

During the Monster Method for Beating Writer's Block Training series last month, I shared that one of the best ways to prevent Creative Krakens -- creative glitches that cause Writer's Block -- was to outline your book before you start.

Without the outline -- your plan -- you run the risk of bobbing hopelessly about in your book, and this can invariably lead to blank page syndrome. However, if you start off with a vision -- your outline -- even if you have to change course along the way, you are able to boldly, creatively, and productively write and complete your book in much less time than if you didn't take the time up front to write an outline.

Food for thought

What is your guilty pleasure?

Lately, my guilty pleasure has been a dark chocolate Klondike bar after dinner. In fact, if you were to ask me what would I do for a Klondike bar, I'd be able to say, eat extra protein all day so I can afford the carbs!

Adventure is worthwhile

"Adventure is worthwhile." ~ Aesop

I love to travel, but I don't do it as much as I like. That said, I've been blessed more than most to see such wonderful places as Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania (when I was less than 5!), England (as an exchange student the summer of '84), Romania (as part of a group of "famous American writers" - ha!), and Spain (with my mother to visit family). I still have a long list of places on my bucket list.

What's on your travel bucket list? I've always wanted to visit New Zealand and Australia!

More episodes of The Author Switch soon!

Thanks to a post on #RadioGuestList, I now have enough potential guests for The Author's Switch that I'm going to be switching it from twice a month to a weekly show in September! Very excited about where this show is going.

Almost gone

Quick note, my friend, because chances are you’ve already seen my gazillion updates about Writer's Block Wizardry.

So, here’s the down-and-dirty: Writer's Block Wizardry closes tonight and when it does, you miss the chance to be a founding member and be grandfathered in at the current price. The doors won't open again until next month, and I may raise the price.

Howdy!

When I was little, I'm guessing about 6 or 7, I was really into Westerns. John Wayne. Clint Eastwood. Yul Bryner. The epic tunes still run in my head. One year for Christmas, I received a red suede cowboy vest and matching red cowboy hat. I wore it every time we went out and about. In fact, despite my having long blonde hair, a carnival ride guy actually called me, "Son." Irked me to no end! "I'm a girl!" I told my Mom, pouting.⁣

What cowboy stories do you have to tell to celebrate #NationalDayOfTheCowboy?
