Don't overcomplicate things
One of the things I've noticed working and speaking with new and aspiring authors is that they often over-complicate the process of writing a book. They see movies and read books about authors and reverse-engineer the creative unfolding from there, often creating complex machinations along the way.
If you can relate, would you like a tip on how to make writing a book easy, peasy, lemon squeezey? Start out with a general outline of the book! It doesn't have to be complex. You just need a simple roadmap that will help you get from point A (your idea) to point B (the completed book), with some milestones in-between (a general idea of chapters or plot points). There is no one-size fits all outline framework, so find one that fits your idea AND your writing style and go from there. You can always course correct along the way.

Great book for fiction and nonfiction
One of my favorite books about writing is Writing for Story: Craft Secrets of Dramatic Nonfiction by Jon Franklin. It was recommended to me by one of my advisors in grad school because she thought it would help me be a better science writer. It did that, and so much more. I've applied Franklin's "craft secrets" to all manner of writing, from science fiction to blog posts to Public Speaking Super Powers. If you're looking for a good book that will give you a strong framework for outlining the structure of a story, whether it is based in fact or fiction, you can't go wrong with this gem!

Building a book is much like building a brand
Tamara McCleary, Founder and CEO of #Thulium, a global digital social media marketing agency, once said, "Building a brand means knowing your story and building and sharing that story.”
The same can be said of your book. Building a book means knowing what your book is about in advance of writing it, building it both strategically and creatively at the same time, and then sharing it with the world. The best place to begin that journey is with an outline that helps guide you through the writing process while allowing for creative flow and opportunities that may pop up along the way.
This may seem counter-intuitive to some. Many people feel that book outlines curtail creativity, but the truth is quite the opposite. Because an outline helps prevent wandering, and thus Writer's Block, it actually enhances and unleashes the creative process -- when done correctly.

International Forgiveness Day
Today is #InternationalForgivenessDay. I may know better than most how hard it can be to forgive--I've been kicked around probably more than my fair share of times in this life. However, I've found that forgiveness leads to a much happier life.
Why do I want to spend my days being angry with a person who couldn't care less and probably doesn't give a flying fig about what they did or the effect they had on me and my life? All it does is make me unhappy and does nothing to even the scales.
Yes, forgiveness is easier said than done. And many times it is a process, a journey, more than a moment in time. But it is worth it to live a life unburdened by the weight of unforgiveness.
Food for thought.
