New IELTS Speaking questions from the UK – August 2025
A heartfelt thank you to M.A., one of our students, for generously sharing the Speaking questions from his recent IELTS exam in the UK:
Speaking test
Part 1 (Interview)
– What is your name?
– Where do you currently live?
– Is your neighbourhood suitable for young people?
– If you could change one thing about your city, what would it be?
– Do you enjoy watching films or TV series in your free time?
– What kind of advertisements do you usually notice?
– Have you ever bought something because of an advertisement?
– Do you think children are easily influenced by advertisements?
Part 2 (Cue Card)
Describe a TV series you enjoy watching. You should say
– what the name of the series is
– when you started watching it
– what it is about
and explain why you like it.
Part 3 (Discussion)
– How do advertisements affect children’s behaviour?
– Should parents try to limit their children’s screen time?
– What are some challenges parents face when trying to control technology use?
– How can technology be used in a positive way for children?
– Do you think children should be taught how to use technology at school?
– How has technology changed the way we watch TV and films?

Speaking test
Part 1 (Interview)
– Where do you live?
– What would you like to change about the place you live in?
– Do you think it’s a good place for young people to live?
– Do you think it is important to learn history?
– What lessons can we learn from studying history?
– Do you know what your grandparents did for work?
– What kind of job did your grandparent do, and how did they do it?
– Would you be interested in doing that kind of job in the future?
Part 2 (Cue Card)
Describe a job you think is difficult. You should say
– what the job is
– what skills or qualities it requires
– why you think it is challenging
and explain whether you would like to try this job yourself.
Part 3 (Discussion)
– What kinds of jobs do people find the most challenging these days?
– Do you think physical jobs are more difficult than mental ones?
– Why do some people enjoy difficult jobs?
– Should companies support their employees’ personal development?
– What are the benefits for companies that invest in staff training?
– Do you think people are more likely to stay in a job if they receive personal development opportunities?

Speaking test
Part 1 (Interview)
– Do you work or are you a student?
– What made you choose this area of study?
– Is there anything you dislike about your field?
– What is your favourite colour?
– Have you ever purchased something mainly because of its colour?
– Do you enjoy wearing clothes in bright or varied colours?
– Have you ever painted your room in a pale colour such as white? Why?
Part 2 (Cue Card)
Describe a time when you told someone the truth. You should say:
– who the person was
– what the truth was
– how you felt about telling them the truth
and explain whether you are still in touch with this person.
Part 3 (Discussion)
– Do you think telling the truth is always the best approach?
– Why do people sometimes find it easy to lie?
– Are there situations where not telling the truth is more acceptable?
– Can people usually tell when someone is lying?
– How do professionals, like psychologists, detect dishonesty?
– What impact do lies have on relationships and trust?

– Do you usually celebrate your birthday?
– What do people in your country do to celebrate birthdays?
– What kind of birthday celebration do you prefer – quiet or lively?
– What’s the weather like where you live?
– Do you like the weather in your city or would you prefer something different?
Part 2 (Cue Card)
Describe a novel you would like to read. You should say:
– what the novel is
– how you heard about it
– what it is about
and explain why you would like to read it.
Part 3 (Discussion)
– Do people in your country enjoy reading novels?
– What types of books are most popular in your country?
– Do you think people read more or less these days? Why?
