We’re very grateful to our student F.A., who recently took the IELTS exam in Oman, for sharing the Speaking questions he was asked:
Speaking test
Part 1 (Interview)
– Do you work or study?
– What do you enjoy most about your job or studies?
– Would you like to change your job or field in the future?
– Do you like sewing or making clothes by hand?
– Have you ever made or altered clothes yourself?
– Do you enjoy taking photographs?
– How often do you take photos?
– Would you ever consider becoming a professional photographer?
Part 2 (Cue Card)
Describe a sports event you would like to attend. You should say:
– what the event is
– where and when it would take place
– who you would like to go with
and explain why you would like to attend this event.
Part 3 (Discussion)
– Do you think it is important for children to watch sports events?
– How can watching sports influence young people?
– Should schools give more importance to physical education?
– Do you think international sports events bring people together?
– Why do some people prefer to watch sports rather than play them?
– What role do sports play in national identity?

Part 2 (Cue Card)
Describe an important lesson you learned outside of school or work. You should say:
– what the lesson was
– when this happened
– how you learned it
and explain why this lesson was meaningful to you.
Part 3 (Discussion)
– How has technology changed the way people learn today?
– Do you think online learning can fully replace traditional education?
– What are the challenges of learning new skills in a digital world?
– What is the role of parents in teaching children important life lessons?

With thanks to H.A., who sat the IELTS test in Kuwait, today we’re sharing the Speaking questions he was asked:

Part 1 (Interview)
– What is your full name?
– Do you work or study? Where?
– Did you play jigsaw or puzzle games when you were a child? What kind?
– Do you find word puzzles easier than number puzzles? Why?
– Do you think solving puzzles or crosswords is useful for elderly people?
– Do you believe working hard is the best way to succeed? Why or why not?
– How often do you check the weather forecast?
– Do you think weather forecasts are usually accurate?
Part 2 (Cue Card)
Describe an English lesson that you enjoyed. You should say:
– where the class was held
– who the teacher was
– what you did during the class
and explain why you enjoyed this lesson.
Follow-up question: Did your classmates enjoy the class as well?
Part 3 (Discussion)
– Why do people choose to learn foreign languages?
– Why do many employers prefer hiring multilingual workers nowadays?
– In what ways can knowing foreign languages help in the workplace?
